"Off A Bird" David Liebman, Randy Brecker, Marc Copland, Drew Gress, Joey Baron: Quint5t (Innervoice Jazz, 2020) Dave Liebman es el autor del tema. Tomajazz: © Pachi Tapiz, 2021 ¿Sabías que? David Liebman nació en Brooklyn en 1946, y Marc Copland en Filadelfia en 1948. David Liebman aparece en algunas grabaciones de Miles Davis como On The Corner, Get Up With It y Dark Magus. The first time I became aware of Marc Copland was when a good friend of mine showed me the album “Softly…”. I was immediately drawn to Marc’s personal approach to harmony and his ability to tell a story on the piano. To this day this album remains one of my favorites of his. Insomma, dalle 21 on line e Buon Jazz a Tutti!
- Tónlist: Víkingur Heiðar Ólafsson - Invention no 12 í A-dúr eftir Johan Sebastian Bach; Procul Harum - A Whiter Shade of Pale; Gary Peacock, Marc Copland ofl - Softly as in a morning rise; Buddy Holly - Raining in my heart.
- Tónlist: Gary Peacock, Marc Copland og Bill Stewart: My foolish heart; Theolonius Monk: I´m getting sentimental over you.
When you’re playing, do you think about what you want to say, or what the music wants of you? Do you remember the process you went through learning how to speak? What happens when you lose half your fingers the day of a big concert? We answer these questions and much more on this episode featuring Gary Peacock. Gary Peacock has spent the past 60+ years collaborating with artists like Keith Jarrett, Jack DeJohnette, Miles Davis, Bill Evans, and Tony Williams. He just released his latest trio album Tangents. This is the second trio release with Marc Copland and Joey Baron and draws on years of shared playing in diverse contexts. Thank you to all the listeners that wrote in with questions for Gary! Here's the flow for the episode: Part 1- Zen and Self Part 2 - The Moment Part 3 - Tangents Check out more jazz-related episodes here. Contrabass Conversations is sponsored by: The Upton Bass String Instrument Company. Upton's Concord model is the first truly authentic New England double bass that they’ve made. Beautiful sloping shoulders (the same upper bouts as their Gary Karr Upton Double Bass), Busetto corners, Prescott ff-holes, flat maple back and sides (many grades available) with deep ribs (lined outside) and a deluxe spruce top combined with a finely detailed scroll, button and hand-cut tuners that pay homage to Prescott while keeping with their own highly-revered and uniquely New England tradition of instrument building. Bass Violin Shop - Offers the Southeast's largest inventory of laminate, hybrid and carved double basses. Whether you are in search of the best entry-level laminate, or a fine pedigree instrument, there is always a unique selection ready for you to try. Trade-ins and consignments welcome! Tonight's Jazz Feature is possibly the final recording by virtuoso bassist Gary Peacock. Mr Peacock has been at the forefront of this music for many years and has explored many avenues of this music. He is perhaps best known for his work with Keith Jarrett, Jack DeJohnette in that magical and profound trio. Peacock has ventured out on his own as leader a few times and this album will be perhaps his final statement as he is now due to age and hearing loss retired from active playing. This thoughtful and introspective recording was done in July of 2014 and features the piano of Marc Copland and the drums of Joey Baron. 7 of the eleven compositions are by Peacock and he is a marvelous composer. Copland wrote two and Baron, one. Peacock honours his contemporary and late friend bassist Scott LaFaro with a version of LaFaro's "Gloria's Step". All in al this album is a wonderful way to wind up a stellar career........"Now This" will be memorable.
