Sein nun schon dreißig Jahre andauerndes Werk ist so vielfältig wie die Natur selbst, die er studiert und liebt. Am Herzen liegt uns das Album Mannigfaltig, das es auch mit Audiokommentar gibt. Ein Highlight ist ohne Frage an der Schnittstelle zwischen Musik und bildender Kunst. Im Buch "Tönende Tiere" werden die Hauptdarsteller unserer Ökosysteme in singenden Postkarten zum Leben erweckt. Verlegt im Eichborn Verlag und im April diesen Jahres erschienen wird Natur zur akustisch sinnlichen Erfahrung. Eine schöne Idee für alle heranwachsenden Menschen und die drumherum. There are moments where the tracks are as convincing as a typically recorded song. The follow up Volta has features and Timbaland on production for some tracks. It's not going to be communicated to the sympathetic chain. That is only the stress response. It only knows how to turn on the stress response and to initiate adrenaline. The trauma response then, is initiated by two triggers when that stress response has been activated.   Dr. Aimee Apigian  Those are the two triggers, that our body will say, Hmm, we actually, we're not big enough for this, we're not strong enough for this, we're not smart enough for this, we're not fill in the blank enough for this. The Pons is part of brainstem and sits just above the Medulla and below the Limbic System as a bulge on the upper Spinal Cord. The Midbrain is the topmost part of the Brainstem, located between the Forebrain and the Hindbrain, and serves as a role in integrating the brain and the Spinal Cord, just like the Pons and Medulla. Today's premiere comes from Bulgarian/American DJ and music producer Bad Boombox, in collaboration with American producer MC Yung Lil. Their collaborative EP, titled Bansko Boys Vol.1, acts as the second project that they have worked on after their hugely successful track Make It Wet that released last year. Bad Boombox is a Sofia-based DJ and Producer who has been releasing a consistent amount of quality productions since 2019 and has seen exponential growth in the last year. This comes from the success of numerous edits, his standout track Medulla, and his recent collaborations with American producer MC Yung Lil. Bad Boombox's sound encompasses a unique blend of trance, ghetto house, Latin drums, chopped melodies, and bouncy dynamics, which has garnered massive attention from artists like SPFJD, DJ Heartstring, VTSS, Salome, I Hate Models, and more amongst the wider dance music industry since 2019, where he has since amassed headline shows all across Europe and has picked up a number of festival slots for this year's festival season. MC Yung Lil is an American producer that is currently based between Europe and South America and is best known for his distinct catchy vocals. He has taken influence from afrobeat, amapiano, reggaeton, and R&B and recontextualised these genres into a hard-hitting but playfully eloquent techno variations. Abstract: The rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM), a part of the medullary reticular formation, plays a major role in several physiological responses, including cardiovascular and sympathetic nervous system functions. Although aging causes disturbances in the responses of these physiological systems, RVLM involvement in these age-related changes is not clear. Previous work using high-throughput gene expression analysis of the RVLM in aged animals suggested that chemical neurotransmission-related genes might be downregulated with advancing age. Since RVLM function involves a balance of signals from inhibitory and excitatory inputs, which is largely mediated by gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and excitatory amino acid (EAA) neurotransmission, we hypothesized that aging is associated with altered excitatory and/or inhibitory neurotransmission-related gene expression in the RVLM. To test this hypothesis, we micropunched an RVLM-containing area from young (3-5 months), middle-aged (12-14 months), and aged (22-26 months) Fischer 344 male rats. RNA purified from these micropunches was analyzed using GABA and Glutamate RT2 Profiler PCR arrays (n= 8-10). Each profiler array has primers for 84 GABA and glutamate neurotransmission related genes. In addition, the expression of selected genes was validated at the RNA level using TaqMan(R) based- qPCR and at the protein level using western blotting. All the genes that displayed significant differential expression (1.5-fold, p less than .05, FDR less than .05) were identified to be downregulated in the RVLM of aged and middle-aged rats compared to young rats. This downregulation did not appear to be a result of RVLM tissue sampling differences among the age groups, since a separate validation of our sampling method, which involved careful mapping of micropunched regions to a standardized brain atlas, revealed no spatial differences in sampled sites among age groups. Among the downregulated genes, the percentage of glutamate neurotransmission-related genes was higher than GABA neurotransmission-related genes. The Solute carrier family 1 member 6 (Slc1a6) gene showed the highest fold downregulation at the RNA level in the RVLM of aged compared to young rats, and its protein product, Excitatory amino acid transporter 4 (EAAT4), showed a downregulatory trend in the RVLM of aged and middle-aged rats. These results suggest that molecular constituents of both GABA and glutamate neurotransmission might be altered in the RVLM of aged and middle-aged rats, and the changes in glutamate neurotransmission might be more prominent. Investigating age-associated anatomical and functional changes in RVLM GABA and glutamate neurotransmission might provide a foundation for understanding the effects of aging on physiological function. Björk makes music on her own terms. She's the ultimate non-conformist when it comes to her fashion and music. And, she's a musical and technological pioneer; she was experimenting with app-building and VR before it was cool. In this episode, I'll look back at Björk's punk roots. Brainstem Basics Your brainstem is the most basic area of the brain.  The area of the brain that we have in common with almost all other levels of the animal kingdom.  It extends right into the spinal cord.  A lot of other whole body involuntary reflexes come from the spinal cord - that's another story for another day). 3 main parts Medulla oblongata - rhythm center (heart rate, breathing, swallowing, vomiting and coughing reflex) - they're all involuntary Pons (not ponds) - the bridge between the cerebellum hemispheres and other brain regions, helps coordinate the right side and left side of your body for complex activities Midbrain - sensory reflexes (also involuntary) - blinking, eye focusing, pupil dilation in response to light, visual and auditory startling reflex that kick-starts the "fight or flight cascade". Other eye focusing problems are not rooted in the midbrain. They are more likely rooted in the areas of the brain that control orbital muscles or in the areas that translate what your eyes are seeing, like a "lazy eye" or drifting eye or being cross-eyed.  There are therapies that doctors prescribe to try and strengthen the weak eye.  Blinking is usually a response to eye moisture.
