Allison Freeman is the visionary behind Attuned Pathways, a support group for neurodivergent parents most of which are raising neurodivergent children. She is the first person that I know of in the world to run a group like this. She joins us to explore the unique landscape of support (and the lack of) for neurodivergent parents. Our conversation reveals the underrepresented challenges ND parents face, spotlighting the relief and understanding offered by Allison's vibrant community. We discuss the transformative power of parents recognizing their own neurodivergence, and how such awareness can revolutionize family dynamics, offering a deeper, more compassionate support system for their children. As the holiday season approaches, we also tackle the stressors that can arise during family gatherings. The invaluable support provided by Allison's Attuned Pathways emerges as a beacon during these times, offering a sanctuary for brainstorming solutions, sharing, learning, and growth. About Allison Freeman Allison's journey into therapy and coaching is rooted in her belief that deep healing for neurodivergent individuals happens in community. As a neurocomplex human with AuDHD raising two high sensitive, neurodivergent children, she's learned that the most transformative growth comes not just from individual work but from being in the presence of others who share our experiences, creativity, and depth. These symptoms can trigger panic and lead individuals to feel as though something is profoundly wrong, prompting a rush to seek medical attention. While it is always prudent to communicate ongoing symptoms with a healthcare provider, what often happens is a cycle of heightened anxiety that exacerbates these feelings rather than alleviating them. I discuss how our body's breathing patterns play a crucial role in maintaining balance. When anxiety strikes, individuals tend to breathe in a shallow and rapid manner, disrupting the delicate balance between oxygen and carbon dioxide in the bloodstream. This imbalance can lead to respiratory alkalosis—characterized by too much oxygen—which subsequently causes physical symptoms such as dizziness, tingling in the extremities, and an overall sense of imbalance. It's important to recognize that while anxiety can manifest in frightening ways, understanding these physiological responses is key to managing them effectively. To combat these discomforting sensations, I share six practical tips aimed at bringing your mind and body back to a state of calm. The first tip emphasizes the importance of deep breathing, encouraging listeners to cultivate a more mindful breathing practice that activates the vagus nerve and helps regulate the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in the body. Next, I stress the value of physical activity as a means to utilize excess oxygen and bring balance back to the body. Engaging in even light exercise can help alleviate feelings of anxiety. Additionally, I highlight the necessity of incorporating meditation into daily routines. Just like physical exercise supports our bodies, meditation nurtures our minds, allowing us to develop resilience against anxiety. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Send Lauren a text! In this episode, I'm talking about how anxiety often looks confusing in tweens and teens—sometimes appearing as irrational fears or even "bad behavior." Many parents question whether their child's reactions are actually anxiety or just acting out. Using real stories and examples, I show why these fears may not make sense but are still very real.Sometimes a kid's fear seems to make no sense. I'll tell you a story of a tween who was only slightly nervous while performing on stage but felt too afraid to buy school lunch. I'll share some of the steps that helped this boy to challenge his fear. I will encourage you, as a parent, to approach moments like these with compassion. In these anxious moments your kid is not intentionally trying to blow up your day, even though it sometimes feels like it! And I also urge you to have compassion for yourself as well. Parenting a tween or teen with anxiety is challenging, and offering yourself some grace is super important! And stay tuned for What's Bringing Me More Zen. Lisa Viviano and Dr. Liz brave a sensitive topic by sharing their experience with bladder leakage. They discuss how unexpected factors contributes to it, and how hypnosis helped them both immensely not just keep control but also feel more confident again that they can live without peeing themselves without warning! On today's episode, I talk about the many nasty symptoms and sensations triggered by our natural stress response. Some include: nausea, fatigue, racing mind, body zaps, and heart palpitations. The typical person easily misreads these symptoms as something life threatening, but they are a natural occurrence due to our body preparing itself to respond to threat. I hope this shines a light on the anxiety confusion you may have. —The Anxiety Recovery Program— https://unpluganxiety.com/my-program/ —1 on 1 Coaching— https://unpluganxiety.com/1-on-1-coaching/ —The Website— https://unpluganxiety.com
In this episode, Andrea Anderson shares some amazing insights into the thing we don't talk about much in Christian business, anxiety. But I am not talking about a nervousness, I am talking about a high functioning anxiety. Are you often busy, moving, doing, planning and strategizing? Do you struggle to rest, make time, or even feel peace at being at rest? We often chalk this up to being creatives, energetic people, we have minds that never stop, sometimes not even long enough to let us sleep much. Well, that is what high functioning anxiety is. This episode is eye opening and you might be suprised to find that what you consider creativity, is actually not. It's not to say you aren't creative, but that something other than creativity is driving you. Learn how high functioning anxiety might be showing up in your life and you didn't even know what it was or how to deal with it.
