Unlock the secrets to business success and personal growth in our latest episode of Happy Business Radio. Ever wonder how laughter and joy can revolutionise your professional life? Candida Vassallo, a spiritual life coach, and Bec Argent, an accountant and tax advisor, share their transformative journeys and offer insights that challenge conventional wisdom. Bec's transition from a small firm in Mount Gambier to establishing her own business is a compelling testament to the power of professional relationships and the shifts brought on by motherhood. Meanwhile, Candida's transition from a health business owner to a spiritual guide adds a unique layer to the conversation, revealing how spiritual practices like meditation and yoga were once radical ideas in schools. This episode doesn't just provide stories; it offers a roadmap for managing stress and finding purpose. Candida introduces the World Laughter Movement, emphasising joy as a pathway to growth, while Bec dismantles stereotypes about accountants by highlighting their role in guiding, not controlling, success. The duo discusses the evolution of stress management, suggesting that recognising what we can control is crucial. We touch on energy management, both financial and spiritual, as a means to reduce stress and increase fulfilment, leaving listeners with practical strategies to implement in their own lives. Mentorship, authenticity, and relationship-building take centre stage as Beck and Candida explore how these elements contribute to successful business practices. Beck shares life lessons from her varied career, underscoring the importance of knowing when to refer clients to others. The conversation highlights how genuine connections and heart-centred approaches attract the right clients. This week on the Head Shepherd podcast we have our freshest recruit, James Lines. After only 9 days on the job, Mark got James onto the head shepherd podcast to talk about his upbringing and what lead to him applying for a job at a genetics consultancy firm.James grew up on a mixed farming enterprise, which also had the Gum Hills Merinos stud and south Devon cattle. After a 'gap year' working on the home farm and jackarooing, James studied Ag Science at Adelaide University. He's spent his last year really focusing on genomics during his honours project where he specialised in livestock production. James runs Mark through his project. "It was implementing a genomics program in a stud context, which was at home at Gum Hill." James explains. "It was interesting working with family and working with academics and researchers." James started off by sorting through a decade of data based mainly on wool quality. "Most of the sheep in the population had had yearling measurements for around the 10 months of age." With spreadsheets from 2012 available to him, James set about pulling together a huge database of historical records which he describes as "in a different format every time". Then he moved on to genomics. "I spent a couple of weeks with a lot of helpers and a lot of technology collecting DNA samples on all of the ewes that have scanned in lamb. Which will give us parentage for the first time."... "Combined that all, got through the statistics of it... meshed it all together and it spat out our enhanced genomic breeding values." "It certainly sets you up for your new role!" says Mark. "You couldn't ask for a better background" Mark and James also cover the T90 project. James is one of the T90 trainers helping people navigate materials and the changes they are implementing. James is currently based near Mount Gambier but will be covering Western Victoria, South Australia and also into WA once he's more centrally placed. As Mark describes, James is tailor made for the job. The Engelbrechts east extension. Englebrechts cave history1865 - Originally described in a publication by Julian Tenison-Woods, the cave system was referred to as Vansittarts cave. 1885 - Carl Engelbrecht's purchase of a flour mill located nearby, which he converted into a whiskey distillery (good man!) used the cave as a dumping ground for his waste products. This led to the cave system being referred to as the Engelbrecht cave. 1929 - the land on which the cave is located was purchased by the then District Council and the cave was sealed off. 1969 - The council invites expressions of interest to open the cave for potential tourism. Reportedly, it was not suitable for tourist development and remained shut.1979 - The Lions Club of Mount Gambier commenced a project to beautify the cave to the tune of $10,0001995 - Engelbrecht Cave was added to the South Australian Heritage Register 2019 - Dive buddies Matthew Aisbett and Josh Richards mooch around the end of the east cave system and find access to an enormous previously undiscovered cave system running under the centre of town. 2022 - Josh joins me on the show to reflect on many of his life adventures and what is now known as the Engelbrechts east extension.

She recalls the time in year 10 when students shared what they would like to be when they left school, and Leah said 'a mum'.When she met her husband and got around to living that dream, it was everything Leah had hoped and more. Leah was enjoying life as a full time stay at home mum. After almost 22 years, Leah's marriage started to break down. She was struggling with an eating disorder which she fought hard to overcome. It was during this time that Leah also found a plant based lifestyle - vegetarian at first for her health, however she soon educated herself into the treatment of animals and found that an ethically plant based life was what she felt compelled to live.Once her marriage did finally end, it was at this time that she faced some of the most challenging times of her life, transitioning from a married woman with security, to a single mother of 3 girls with no job or financial safeguard.Thinking of the things she was good at, Leah dug deep, literally, and turned her love of gardening into a business, Serenity Home and Garden Care. She bought a $1000 ute advertised on the side of the road and returned home to her girls to announce her new venture. The next 5 years saw Leah not only pour her love into the gardens of Mount Gambier, challenge the gender stereotype of the gardening industry at the time but she developed some incredible bonds with her often elderly female clients. When her body told her it was time to give up the lugging of chainsaws and hours of gardening, Leah turned to her other love, cooking. It was through mixed experiences of being a vegan in Mount Gambier, thought she could improve the food choices for people who lead this kind lifestyle. Thus, Just Frank was born. years on, her business, and her health are thriving, AND she has almost paid off her home loan as a small business owner.Later in life, Leah has dealt with the identity shift of becoming an 'empty nester' and the different emotions brought on by becoming a grandmother. Leah shares openly and honestly today, and I am sure you will, as I have, appreciate it greatly.Mount Gambier residents may know Leah as the face behind Just Frank plant based treats and meals, but today you will find out there is so much more to this inspirational, kind and determined woman.***Please be aware this conversation contains discussions around an eating disorder, mental health issues, birth trauma + grief.***Find Leah on facebook / instagramPodcast website / instagramIf you would like to chat about any aspect of a plant based or vegetarian lifestyle (in a non judgemental environment), Leah would love to hear from you!If today's episode is triggering for you in any way I encourage you to seek help from those around you, medical professionals or from resources on line. I am delighted to welcome Aleathia Holland to the podcast, Aleathia is an entrepreneur and business owner from Mount Gambier SA, and a mum of 3.Aleathia grew up in what she would describe as an entrepreneurial family. She was always encouraged to follow her ideas and try new things. She would make and sell potpourri as a child. She opened a clothing store in the late 1990s with a passion for selling one off, exclusive designs in a world that hadn't quite evolved to online shopping, in a town 500kms from a capital city. Her earliest memory of tea is of her Grandma using her very cold very black tea to add to the Christmas pudding, once she added a cup of tea all the grandchildren would get to have a stir and make a wish. Aleathia thinks it was this magical tradition that started her love of tea, although she didn't realise this at the time.Aleathia's husband's work has taken her family around the globe. In Singapore and discovered TWG tea, luxurious tea tins, decadent high teas and divine blends. It gave her new appreciation for quality tea blends. From there she moved to South Korea and discovered traditional tea ceremonies, and green tea - the plantations were lush and green and filled the country side. That's where she really discovered the difference between a top grade and low grade of tea, steamed, fermented or pan. It was amazing how much went into creating teas that we drink everyday, not really thinking about how they came to be in our homes. In 2020 when Covid struck, Aleathia's family needed to move with a weeks notice to Western Australia for her husbands work. Suddenly with extra time on her hands, Aleathia had the opportunity to start up her tea obsession!Aleathia opened her tea company Athella, driven by her passion for providing high quality, organic and ethically sourced tea, and she takes pride that she is able to run her business from a regional centre, and mix the tea herself. She entrusts the help of a Naturopath to ensure her teas aid wellness and are full of health benefits. When her family moved back to Mount Gambier, her business was embraced by the supportive people in her regional home. She is passionate about educating her tea drinkers. and has hopes to provide an accessible employment environment for working mothers in her home town.Connect with Aleathia - website / instagram / shop teaPodcast - instagram / websiteMusic used with permission from Alemjo my new age and ambient music trio. When chatting to my guests I greatly appreciate their openness and honestly in sharing their stories.
