Not Another Teen Wolf Podcast is back, and we still can't remember how we introduce ourselves! Natalie and Karen return once again to talk about Teen Wolf: The Movie, which is quite literally right around the corner. With San Diego Comic-Con and New York Comic Con in the bag, we've got plenty to discuss thanks to the latest slew of trailers, clips, and interviews. You want diehard fan insights? Crazy speculation and theories? Our worst nightmares realized? We've got you covered. We catch you up on what's been going on with us in case you missed the last few episodes since the show stopped airing in 2017! Yes, we will be covering Wolf Pack, so stay tuned! We revisit the finale, Teen Wolf season 6, episode 20, “Wolves of War.” You can listen to our initial reaction here, from the episode we put out in 2017. How do we feel about the finale all these years later? We're looking at where we left everyone by the end of the series. Will Alec be a part of the movie? Will Scott's pack be larger than we saw it here in the finale? A bigger question may be whether Monroe is still an issue all these years later. We are so totally here for Proud Dad Derek, and we can't wait to see what kind of role he has in the movie. We check in on all the other characters we know we'll see in the movie. Yes, Jackson still has a tail. No, it's not just hanging out behind him all the time. Pour one out for Cody Christian. Out of all the couples, which ones do we think are still together? Should Scott still be holding onto what his relationship with Allison was like when they were 16? Dylan O'Brien might not be in the movie, but will Stiles, the concept, feature in the film? Make sure you check out all the information we gathered in Not Another Teen Wolf Podcast episode #155 because this week we're discussing all the new stuff we've learned since then. We're so thankful we were at SDCC 2022 to witness the Teen Wolf movie trailer even though so much was going on we basically blocked it out and didn't process anything until now. Who is the nogitsune trying to convince to go against Scott and his friends? Is Allison a consequence of the nogitsune coming back to life? What do we know about the canon of ressurection in Teen Wolf? Okay, we have a SOLID definitely SERIOUS theory about who the villain of the movie is. Was the nogitsune the worst villain on Teen Wolf? Watch the Teen Wolf movie teaser trailer and follow along as we go through everything we get to see. We have so many questions about Eli, but mostly: Who raised him!? We also have a lot of questions about the burnt forest and wonder if it could be aliens. Long live Deputy Mason! Why does everyone have to be in mortal danger all the time? Fifteen years was not a long enough break from this shit. Jeff had an entire plot for Deaton for the season 6 finale, so we wonder if that'll show up in the movie. Could Hikari be a kitsune, considering everything this movie is about? Is it too naïve to hope that no one dies?? Do we think Allison will stick around once the movie is over, or will she die again? Do you have to re-up your Alpha subscription after a while? These are important questions, people. Did Beacon Hills High get a lot of money to build a new stadium!? We seriously need some surprise cameos. How does it feel to see Peter again? We're still obsessed. Watching Allison's reveal in the trailer at SDCC was truly something else. Okay, it's time to talk about the full-length trailer. Will the movie look any different from the television show? We get some context for the shot in the teaser trailer with the little girl on Scott's back, and Natalie has a pretty complete theory for what's going on here. Out of all the people to stay in contact with, why Deaton!? Do we know what Lydia's job is? Because she looks STUNNING. We have some wild theories this episode, BUT WHAT IF THEY CAME TRUE? Karen does not like Chris' rational reaction to Allison's return. Are there other characters we would want to come back from the dead? We're still confused about when exactly this movie takes place in relation to the show. What if Allison is Allison but she came back wrong? How long is this movie!? Because there's a lot going on. What's going on with the nogitsune in the jailhouse?? Are we upset about Malia and Parrish hooking up? Jackson needs to set aside several moments of the film in order to flirt with some people. Speaking of, we're really excited to see this version of Jackson and what he'll bring to the table this time around. Next, we're going to talk about the Teen Wolf movie NYCC panel, which took place in October 2022. We love Tyler Posey's energy and dedication to the Teen Wolf universe. We circle back to how Teen Wolf handles resurrections. The movie is in a unique position to go into the psychology of the characters and how they deal with their long-term trauma. Is it normal for all born werewolves to go through werewolf puberty? It might be nice if they did not weaponize the child, but fat chance that happens. That scene where Allison attacks Derek and Eli was so intense! The love between Crystal Reed and Jeff Davis was palpable, and we love how excited she is to bring Allison back to Teen Wolf. Will Lydia be excited to see Allison? We're not so sure… What does it mean that Shelley is bringing a lot of herself to Malia in the movie? What's up with Liam in the movie, especially now that he's not the youngest in the pack? What will Malia and Allison's relationship be like, banking on the fact that Allison is “cured.” Are the new kids all right? How difficult was it to transition into this established cast? Apparently there are some flashbacks in the movie, and we speculate as to the context behind them. Make sure you watch the Entertainment Weekly interview. We're super happy Allison is back, but let's not forget about Jackson's return!!! All we need to know is whether or not Ethan is okay. Has someone actually been cast as Greenburg? Jeff Davis is not a canon traditionalist. The big question here is…will this make us angry?? Make sure you tune into Behind Beacon Hills, the behind-the-scenes documentary. You can watch episode 1 now! How about that tour of Roscoe the Jeep, though?? How significant of a role could Coach Finstock have in the movie? WAIT WE HAVE ANOTHER THEORY FOR THE VILLAIN. Somebody give Tyler Posey his own food and travel show. We truly hope the Teen Wolf movie is a success so we can get more. Time is so much harder now, but we're so happy to be back working on Not Another Teen Wolf Podcast. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Natalie Fisher. What's this? Another new episode of Not Another Teen Wolf Podcast!? Natalie and Karen return once again to talk about Teen Wolf: The Movie. With San Diego Comic-Con right around the corner, you better believe we're about to get a slew of new information about what's to come for our favorite teen (and adult) werewolves. We're here to catch you up on all the latest, and let you know what to expect when we return from SDCC. We've made the rather hasty decision to go to Comic-Con this year. We have other interests, but a big pull is the Teen Wolf movie. Honestly, this all came together rather chaotically. Do you want to hear Natalie's list of her top Comic-Con fears? Okay, let's get into what we know so far about the Teen Wolf movie. Who wrote the film, and what can we expect from the script? We…have never seen Aliens. How long did they know the movie was a possibility? What's the timeline of this movie?? Look, we just wanna see what's going on. It wouldn't be Teen Wolf without a lacrosse game. Will someone from the pack be a teacher at the school? We've got a list of the actors who will be returning to the movie. How the heck will Allison be involved? Which relationships do we want to see intact during the time jump? How should they treat Stiles' absence? Which characters are we most excited to see come back? Are there any characters who haven't really interacted before? How much time will they have to develop the plot? Is it fair that we still hate Deaton after all this time? Who owns Roscoe at this point in time? We take a little break to talk about Percy Jackson and Prophecy Radio. One of the actors is returning as a new character, which is a great sign. Okay, let's talk about Derek's son… Who the heck is Hikari Zhang?? Coach Hogan's gotta be evil, right? Who's not returning to the movie?? Will the movie feel the same without Stiles' involvement? Which of the crew members will return for Teen Wolf: The Movie? What are the chances we'll get a sequel, and what's the primary measure of success? Are we going to cover Wolf Pack? What else are we going to do while we're at Comic-Con? Can't wait to see what comes next! Stay tuned! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Natalie Fisher. It's our Not About The Weather 2021 retrospective, and we are going all-in with our biggest pop culture hype and gripe of the year. Ariana, Brittany, Natalie and Karen are all here to decompress. Ted Lasso and Mythic Quest are both heavily featured, with a shout out to Dickinson as well. No, we are not shills for Apple, yes we will become so if ever they want us to be. That platform is creating a lot of great work right now. Ariana takes us through her hype regarding this year's wonderful coming of age portrayals for teenage girls, and Brittany rekindles her long-lost experience with live music. In terms of gripes, we have a powerful and wide ranging slate of things to complain about. Brittany is concerned that America's sweetheart Steve Kornacki is being used and abused as a gimmick (Let Steve Be Steve!) and Karen is disappointed by the Melissa McCarthy movie Thunder Force, which should have been brilliant but just... wasn't. Natalie feels that while the final season of Brooklyn 99 was, in many ways, very meaningful and very conscious, it betrayed Jake Peralta at the close, and Ariana simply feels that the way people engage in fandom just isn't fun any more. As well as our year-end hypes and gripes, the group reflects on their experience of 2021 at work and at home, and assesses whether this year was, at the end of the day, a good or bad one for them personally. Results are mixed. And a great Question of the Day sparks a fantastic discussion about all the performers who shone for us this year like never before. Happy Holidays from ReWatchable! Our hosts have once again come together to celebrate with another holiday special. Despite the fact that the plot that could have easily been resolved very quickly with no fallout several times throughout this movie, we find ourselves tangled up in enough of the delightful antics to discuss whether Bill Pullman holds his own against Sandy, debate whose lie is worse (Lucy Moderatz or Joe Fox), and whether we appreciate public demonstrations of love or not.  Before we get into the episode notes, if you are a ReWatchable fan from way back, we have some exciting Subjectify content for you! Is she giving off millennial vibes before they really existed? What was the audience reception of this movie vs how we see it? Let's unpack the trope of perpetuating the lie by just not correcting the narrative to the truth This could be easily resolved! Thank goodness for Jack who is here to poke holes in her story. Well… awake The wedding happens and she leaves, that's it, that's the scene Actually, wait, this scene is actually ridiculous and we need to talk about it. HE HAS AN IV IN HIS ARM Jack proposes because why not? Were there any behind the scenes conversations about this between the family members? Probably not, Saul handled it. Public proposals - huge no Narration book ends this film - love it or hate it? Side characters - Joe Jr, Jerry, and the orderly Rick Worthy While You Were Sleeping vs Practical Magic - rate the Bullock performance! In terms of cinematography, this is a very grey movie While You Were Sleeping vs You've Got Mail - rate the lie! The ReWatchable crew enters the Matrix one more time to finish out the original trilogy with a discussion covering whether or not this is a love story, determining who is entitled to eat the cookies, and consider where the next movie may take audiences. This Matrix Revolutions panel is a modge-podge one superfan and several sort of newbies who tackle the biggest questions the series has to offer humanity, including: is this movie the only time Keanu Reeves has made a joke? Join us as we navigate one last trip into the Matrix as we know it and prepare for what The Matrix: Resurrections has to offer! Fun Facts As a reminder: we are no longer found on Hypable – we are now on Subjectify Media! Read all about it in our relaunch article: Reintroducing ReWatchable: And our next round is… – Subjectify Media Spotify Wrapped is here (much to Natalie's dismay) and not everyone on the panel listened to Taylor Swift! The Matrix Revolutions The movie dives right into the thick of it but not action-wise, the characters take center stage Volume was a major issue for home viewing, perhaps due to its IMAX release With the balance of jumping between character moments, did we lose a lot of Neo in this film after sticking very close to him in the past 2 films? Which direction is the train going? And are the passengers running toward reality or away from it? The machines aren't who we thought they were A moment to acknowledge how great Keanu looks at this moment — and in the PRESENT The Oracle is replaced due to a real life death, however the plot gives a lot to chew on with a vessel changing as a result of a choice made in the Matrix Imagine being programmed to live with a guy who eats half an olive at a time? Is there a lack of emotional investment (or none at all?) for Trinity? But was this intentional? Smith, who are you? Why are you here? What is your purpose?! The cookies are done, but who does the Oracle actually think that they are for? Smith turns out to be quite the three-dimensional character despite Brittany's best attempts to ignore his existence We are in Zion/the real world for a majority of the movie with the crews of the ships and on the battlefield defending Zion The side characters give us hope The Kid is actually a bigger deal than just being the President of Neo's fan club Another battle/fight scene makes us care a bit more when it cuts between people rather than focusing on one character at a time The casting of Bane was *chef's kiss* “Neo dust” Neo is blinded-but he cannot escape Smith's sunglasses-and he kills Bane Does Keanu make his only joke… ever… in this movie? Trinity and Neo's deaths - what was the emotional and logical reactions to each of these? Happily ever after, or not, there's always the 4th movie Neo master negotiator with the machines Iconic RAIN BATTLE Based on canon alone the machines taking Neo is a giant question mark (but there are possibly some answers in the video game) Natalie adds some must-sees to her Sydney tour and it is an eel wall (no thank you) What is the one thing that would keep you living in the Matrix? Or Zion? There are some disturbing procreation discussion What the hell is going to happen in The Matrix: Resurrections?  Gather round the table, it's a ReWatchable Thanksgiving Special! The next film on our 2021 movie slate loosely touches on Thanksgiving, but gives us the best Autumn in New York vibes. Join us as we talk though the cyber-union of of everyone's favorite rom com leads Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks in the Nora Ephron classic You've Got Mail. It's impossible to find a newbie for this one, so our panel of five hosts talk about the power of online relationships, if this movie would work today (or with anyone other than Tom Hanks) and which locations look best on screen.  Fun Facts: Favorite Thanksgiving Episodes Ariana: Smallville 10.07 “Ambush” Brittany: Will & Grace 3.08/3.09 “Lows in the Mid-Eighties (Part I and II)" Cass: Bob's Burgers 4.05 “Turkey in a Can” Danielle: Gossip Girl 1.09 “Blair Waldorf Must Pie” Natalie: New Girl 1.06 “Thanksgiving” and Buffy 4.08 “Pangs” We've got early 00s sitcoms, late series holiday reunions, a series that celebrates the holiday annually on air, some not so shiny interactions, and some friends rounding out the found family celebrations. A long tangled adaptation tree stems from the 1937 Hungarian play Parfumerie Nora Ephron the Queen of rom coms with hits such as When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle What was going on with the ads in the 90s in Australia? What sets a great rom com apart from other movies? Humor is at the top but a close second is actually believing in the romance We somehow got to the Eternals romance and anyway read Natalie's review of the film here Hallmark movies are not romcoms, but they do end in the way some stories should - they end We navigate our way from the Regency era to the Internet era Internet relationships have a very different starting point than in-person relationships and it's...freeing We trace the evolution of change in internet relationships from chat rooms, to anonymous relationships via email, to cell phones You've Got Mail is the first (and maybe only) film to unpack these relationships well Is there cheating in this movie?  We love a healthy breakup! What would the tags for this be on AO3? An enemy to lovers plot requires so much more than hate The Miike Snow music video for Genghis Khan is relevant, trust Cass What makes Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks so special and perfect for these roles? We don't think You've Got Mail would have worked with anyone else, especially given the fact that Joe was “in the know” for most of the movie Who could be our leads today? (Besides Daniel Radcliffe who we talk about in depth in an episode of Not About the Weather) There is also another running current in this movie about familial legacy  We could have used more depth with the depths of what Joe's relationship with money The shop fails and it's another plot device that may help Kathleen if it was developed more Further, insights to Kathleen's thoughts on Joe would have been appreciated The third major player in this film is New York City, what are some other films that nail the sense of place? It's the Supernatural Finale Anniversary Special! Natalie and Cass are joined by Liliana, host of the Supernatural podcast St Alphonso's Academy of Squee and recent guest contributor here on Subjectify, to talk about the Supernatural series finale, and what the hell has happened since, a year after it all ended. Join us for a very special and very long celebration slash mourning slash something as we hype and gripe the demise of the show, air our worries about what's become of the fandom, and beg the cast and crew to just be normal about gay people. These shownotes are going to have a bit of a different structure to our usual here on Not About The Weather, for three reasons: a) this is an extremely long episode, b) it's probably going to be listened to by people other than our normal audience, and c) there may be parts that you want to hear and parts that you don't. So for the first time ever, we're including a detailed list of time stamps. We respect that some fans do not want to engage with any positivity about the Supernatural finale, however Not About The Weather is always structured to include both a "Hype" and "Gripe" from each host about their topic of choice, and, although no one here loves the finale, all the hosts on this episode have tried to take it in good faith. If you don't want to listen to our finale-related hypes - especially if you are triggered by Dean's death - that is all good. We don't really talk about it in detail, but everyone on this episode does accept that plot point as well as the Heaven endgame. We'd appreciate it if you keep things civil and don't come for our throats about the fact we don't have a moral objection to it. Just feel free to skip straight to 1 hour 30 mins to hear our grievances - that's where stuff starts getting really passionate, particularly the 45 minute segment griping about the attitude shift to "interpret" Castiel's queerness away. Good times. Here's the detailed breakdown by time stamp: 0m 30s - Introduction of hosts. 6m 53s - We recap the plot of the Supernatural finale in the off chance any listeners haven't seen it. 11m 40s - Most people we know hate the finale very badly, and wanted or were expecting a happier ending where everyone lives a good life finally free of Chuck. We agree this was a very desirable ending, however, we do not hate the finale as much as some people do - in part because we were anticipated something much worse. We check in on how Liliana is feeling about it these days. 15m 21s - We get the aim of Dean's death, but we don't have to like it. But we all agree that Sam's ending was possibly the worst of them all, just in terms of what it implied about his character's personality and growth and decency and all that. Even though they died, Dean and Cas both felt landed and whole, as characters. Sam's ending was just depressing. 20m 55s - Even though that she didn't expect it to happen, Natalie believes that after 15 years, the show definitely could have gotten away with a happier ending while still remaining authentic to the Winchesters' journey, but we suspect that, for whatever reason, the powers that be just did not see a happier ending as truthful to what Supernatural is all about, despite the characters having earned it. 24m 59s But surprisingly, the finale was still a happier ending than Cass and Natalie expected. Regarding Castiel in particular, the bar was on the floor - we believed Misha wasn't coming back, and we were expecting a cruel, tragic utter lack of resolution that implied he would be stuck in the Empty having trauma dreams forever. Hypes 28m 50s - The overall Chuck as the writer villain plot and how it has recolored the whole show from the very beginning. The best thing about the Chuck twist was that it gave us, as viewers, a whole new show. Supernatural, from day one, is a brand new experience, knowing the truth about Chuck, and it makes the whole thing that much better. Is there a chance that Ben Edlund had this idea in mind way back in the day? 46m 30s - The redux, repair and freeing of Heaven as seen in the finale. Over the years, we weren't sure if the show was aware of how messed up their version of Heaven was, but setting it right or changing what happens to human souls after they die was a huge priority for us as fans, because no matter whether we saw the boys die or not in the finale, they are human and will one day eventually die. We support that the finale showed us this, and feel we wouldn't have trusted it if it wasn't via Dean. We really hope that fandom will get interested in exploring more Heaven-based fic sometime soon. 1hr 11m 25s - The fact that so many former SPN cast members and writers are killing it in their careers - it's been a joy to watch because of course it's a huge group after 15 years, but a lot of them are reaching new heights (Kathryn & Shoshannah with Marvel, J2's shows, Misha's many pursuits, Ruthie & Mark S on Doom Patrol, Rich directing lots of TV) and how it's just lovely to see them thriving professionally while still remaining part of our community. Gripes 1hr 33m 08s - The cancellation of Wayward Sisters. Yes, we're still mad about it, but it's relevant today because we believe that if that show had been running in tandem with Supernatural, the Supernatural finale endgame would be entirely different. We feel absolutely certain that if Wayward had been picked up, none of the boys would've died at the end. 1hr 44m 48s - The COVID finale. If we're going to hate the finale, we want to at least hate the real version. We believe that the same plot points may have felt different if a different tone was taken, and the fact that there will always be a big asterisk next to the finale in terms of what it was meant to be, is infuriating. And don't get us started on Misha's absence. Plus, even if we didn't love the finale, the show deserved to get to do what it really wanted to do - not be hobbled by a pandemic. 2hr 02m 49s - The fact that people continue to invalidate the Destiel confession a year later. It was gay, it was romantic, just let us have it. Even the cast are walking back previous statements, which is really disappointing. It's dangerous, it's gaslighting, and it's a really bad look for a show with a significant queer fanbase. We really don't like that the concept of art being "open to interpretation" - a good concept that we agree to in theory - is being weaponized to basically say "if this character being queer upsets you, you can explain it away." 2hr 46m 19s - Two Truths and a Lie: Cass Edition, about Old Fandom Lore 2hr 54m 14s - Ask NATW Anything: “What do you all feel is the most important fandom shift post-finale? Do you think there has been one?” Let's just say we have a LOT to unleash for this one, including the loss of conventions, the puriteen police, and the fact that people still aren't ready to have differing finale opinions without getting extremely combative or traumatized. Liliana addresses plenty of this in the article she shared on Subjectify for the anniversary as well. 3hr 18m 30s - Bonus Ask NATW Anything: “What did I ever do to deserve this?” We apologize to a dear friend and explain how we three all met and spent time together at 2018 JIBCon in Rome. Christine Baranski was involved. You all saw that video of Daniel Radcliffe, right? Ariana is in love with the man due to the unusual anthology series Miracle Workers, and tells us all about the potential link between each unrelated season. Having fallen down a DanRad hole, the only issue is that he hasn't yet claimed his throne as a romcom prince. If you're in the mood for a cozy mystery, Natalie can't recommend Only Murders in the Building highly enough as a major hype of fall TV, and Only Murders was Brittany's hype too, until she got some big news about her favorite musical of all time.  That's right, it's time for Brittany to scream about Groundhog Day, and if you haven't ever heard her do this before, you're in for a real treat. Her gripe, however, is a pretty serious one, as she shares some personal work-life balance issues that have made her turn pleasurable hobbies into a form of work, creating guilt for taking time out to watch or read literally anything. On a lighter note, Natalie is griping about both her consistent hyperfixation with every show's brattiest, nastiest sad boy (some of the greatest hits include Thomas Barrow from Downton Abbey, Jackson Whittemore from Teen Wolf, Yuri Plisetsky from Yuri on Ice, Ben Gross from Never Have I Ever, and, most recently and powerfully, Jamie Tartt from Ted Lasso) and others' inability to understand that this trope exists for a reason and the reason is ~growth. Brittany gives us two truths and a lie about her history seeing her beloved Groundhog Day, and our question of the day reveals a secret hobby that she's been keeping and a discussion about the value of adults continuing to try activities for fun without necessarily needing to be good at it. #ANA - Ask NATW Anything: “What *thing* have you become obsessed with since the pandemic began?” Resources/Recommendations: Explaining Subjectify on Not About The Weather Episode 37 Tim Minchin says Groundhog Day is coming back to London Groundhog Day The Musical Original Broadway Cast Recording on Spotify Brittany and Tim Minchin on Instagram Only Murders In The Building - Official Trailer Miracle Workers - Official Trailer Daniel Radcliffe's Miracle Workers season 3 dance scene What If - Official Trailer James Acaster having a breakdown on The Great British Bake-Off subjectifymedia.com @subjectifymedia on Twitter Subjectify Media on Instagram Subjectify Media on Facebook Subjectify Media on Tumblr This episode's hosts are: Brittany Lovely, Natalie Fisher and Ariana Quiñónez. It's a ReWatchable Halloween Special! Continuing our run of 2021 movie episodes, we are here to bring you our thoughts about the 1998 fan-favorite spooky rom-com, Practical Magic. Starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, this weird and witchy tale tells the story of the Owens sisters, who are as blessed with magic as they are cursed to lose the men they fall in love with. Five ReWatchable hosts have gathered on Halloween to tell a tale of love, loss, raising the dead, and of course, magic. Fun Facts In case you missed it, we are on Subjectify Media now. Episode 37 of Not About The Weather has a great explanation of what exactly happened and why we've got a new website. Our fun facts are themed: what's your favorite Halloween TV special? The winners include Buffy, Supernatural, Stranger Things, How I Met Your Mother, and Boy Meets World. Practical Magic Interestingly, all our Americans are newbies today, and our superfans are the international hosts. Kendra had not heard of this movie til two weeks ago. Karen was expecting scarier - like The Craft! Danielle had seen a famous scene on Tiktok which both set the scene and did not prepare her at all. Natalie saw this movie in the cinema in the 90s. Is this a feminist movie? Kind of. It's very women supporting women, but also weirdly women versus women. Starting with the whole Maria Owens situation. Pro tip: don't curse your own family line, it goes against the biological imperative. So much happens in the first 20 minutes. Some hosts expected the set up of the first 20 minutes to be the whole movie. But no. The aunts casting a love spell on Sally might be well meaning but it's creepy as hell. Natalie's theory is that they are breeding her to keep the family line going. Gross. The Faith Hill “This Kiss” scene is a pretty huge pop culture moment. Everyone in this movie has a lot of hair and it is wonderful. Should Gilly, the romantic, have gotten the chance at true love? Was Jimmy a vampire. No. Well, maybe. Well, no. But. Maybe? The newbies did not expect the sisters to be murderers. Let alone double murderers. Was the whipped cream disgusting or inspired?  If you don't make your own necromancy ingredients, store bought is fine! Gary the Cop shows up chasing Jimmy down for Jimmy's crimes, so he doesn't seem to be concerned about harm befalling Jimmy. But he does have to uphold the law, and these women are not good at covering up crimes. Did Sally, like, make Gary with her spell? Is the Owens curse objectively real? Is it naive to just not believe in it? If you claim that it's down to belief only, then Sally killed her husband by believing in it. Karen wasn't expecting to be thinking about the theoretical workings of magic this hard for this movie. It's called Practical Magic! You didn't think we may discuss the practicality of magic? Are soul bonds ethical? What about free will? Natalie has read a Supernatural AU of Practical Magic featuring Dean and Sam as the witches and Cas as the cop. But seriously, Sally's spell. Is it Google Maps or The Sims? (Just go with it.) Natalie delivers some tea about soulmate compatibility. Depressing or inspiring? You decide. Karen is very upset. Just when you thought this movie was over, it is not over! The climax depends on reaching out to all the women who hated them and drawing back the fear curtain. This movie fits into every category. Horror? Romcom? Family drama? Sure. This movie is quite famously full of queer themes, even though it isn't about lesbians. There's some chat about why fictional incest is a trope here too. (Just go with it.) We look at why media is incapable of showing intimacy between people without coding it the same way romantic intimacy is coded. A real witch put a curse on this movie. It's an extreme cult classic in so many ways!  Favorite scenes. Favorite lines. This episode's superfans are: Maj Elisabeth and Natalie Fisher. ReWatchable is back in action with a series of specials for the remainder of 2021. In honor of our Sense8 round, we'll be covering the Wachowskis' Matrix trilogy in advance of the 4th instalment this December. Today we bring you a ReWatchable deep dive into the original, iconic, philosophical and plain legendary 1999 classic that is The Matrix. Looking back at The Matrix after 20 years, how does it hold up? Join us as we follow baby Keanu Reeves out of the simulation and discover just how deep the rabbit hole goes.  Fun Facts We are no longer found on Hypable - we are now on Subjectify Media! Read all about it in our relaunch article: Reintroducing ReWatchable: And our next round is... - Subjectify Media Karen is making her grand return to ReWatchable after 2 years away and the move couldn't be more fitting! Natalie informs the group that Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) from Ted Lasso can perform the Muppet Christmas Carol in approximately 6 minutes. Watch it now, if not for the Ted or the Muppets, then for the dedication. Kendra watched the entire Matrix trilogy for the first time in the past few months to celebrate her anniversary, however her partner cannot watch a movie or read a book without spoiling it. But Kendra's real fun fact is that she is about to embark on a Halloween cookbook review spree for Subjectify so stay tuned if you want some spooky treats (and of course she is going all out to have her friends sample her cooking!) With the closing of Hypable, Brittany uncovered some deeply locked away memories from her time covering a few shows that should never be named. The Matrix Superfans: how many times have you seen this movie? What has stuck with you? What has changed? Newbies: In thinking about the movie as a pop culture classic, what were you aware of going in? The world building is very intricately designed thanks to the work put in off screen. Trinity opens the series to establish the premise that there is another layer to this environment where an us versus them battle is happening outside the parameters of the world we know. Do the special effects hold up today? A lot of effects were either invented or honed specifically for this movie. It truly changed the game for Hollywood, we had not seen ANYTHING like this in Western cinema. More reading: (link) (link - slight spoilers for Reloaded) Practical effects helped the movie's action feel real. The Wachowskis drew from Hong Kong action movies with lots of martial arts and they hired fight choreographers from those movies to get it, so there's lots of wire work and practical stuff. The lobby shootout is ALL practical VFX except painting out the wires that let them do the stunts. “There is the world that people think is real and the reality beneath that” -- the Wachowskis speak to gender transition throughout the film. The Matrix, according to them, has always been a trans allegory. More reading: (link) (link) (link) (thread) (thread) The imagery of meeting Neo for the first time when he is detached from reality (sleeping) is quite fitting. Let's discuss Neo's character development, specifically: is it good? Does the Matrix affect this? Are we meant to interpret him through that lens? If you ever visit Natalie she can take you on a Matrix tour of Sydney. Is there a better Chosen One story where the appointed one has a choice? Is there even another one that offers a choice? The first moment that the rules of reality do not apply and we get a glimpse of Neo figuring something out about the world he's in is when he asks for his phone call. Neo is apparently not put off by the whole bug removal thing and decides to follow Trinity to Morpheus. Would you take the red pill or the blue pill? Also, fuck right-wing co-opting of this reference. Did everyone see Lilly Wachowski dunking on Ivanka Trump over this? Morpheus and the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar save the flushed dead goldfish Neo from the AI overlords, we witness a (sometimes gross) rebirth. Let's go through the ship and meet our friends (and one enemy)! Tank is the MVP of the secondary character crew, but in true Brittany fashion, she likes Cypher. Trinity gets her moment in the spotlight thanks to Karen. [pause for white room orientation and kung fu training montage] Cypher's intentions are sympathetic though executed poorly. The Oracle scene and the Chosen One narrative the Matrix uses needs plenty of unpacking - this is really the crux of the movie. These are not your standard action movie deaths. The psychology of this movie hits hard. The conversation between Morpheus and Smith had a twist that changed the motivations for the final moments of the movie. And now we finally get to it! The action! Neo is The One! And now his story really begins Favorite Scenes Favorite Lines Brittany's Brainstorms: She may or may not have seen this movie! This right here is the Subjectify Media Special. In this episode, we let you know all about the founding of our new home, Subjectify Media, and look back together on the decade of podcasting and journalism on Hypable that brought us here. We've all shared a lot, working together, and we reflect on all the best things about that - the friendship, collaboration, travel, special events, skills gained, experiences, fandoms, the lot, while explaining what the plan and inspiration is for the new website. It's a wild ride through our sense of identity and accomplishment, and a huge introduction to what comes next. If you have followed our writing and want to know what happened - this is the episode for you. We talk about the closure of Hypable, how the news made us all feel, and how we pulled ourselves out of the depths of despair in order to create something new and great! The key to all of this is how much we love fandom communities and the platform for engagement and discussion that Hypable provided, and Subjectify will continue to provide. Speaking of, Karen introduces her new podcast (another one!) that will focus on one of her lifelong loves, Percy Jackson. In terms of gripes, Natalie tells us all about Subjectify brand name and ethos while highlighting the irony about "bias" in entertainment journalism. (Art is subjective. Critics are meant to be subjective! That being said, we don't plan to be negative, we just aren't going to apologise for our personal slant about what elements are important to us.) Karen lets people know just how tough, financially, being a freelance writer is these days, and how COVID has made it worse, and Kendra expresses contempt at exploitative clickbait headlines - which we never did on Hypable and won't be doing on Subjectify. Natalie gives us two truths and a lie about some of the most ridiculous reader hate she's ever gotten, and our question of the day throws back to some of our most memorable work over the last few years. #ANA - Ask NATW Anything: “Fave Hypable article OR one you now disagree with/want to change?” Resources/Recommendations: subjectifymedia.com @subjectifymedia on Twitter Subjectify Media on Instagram Subjectify Media on Facebook Subjectify Media on Tumblr Nico di Angelo and 8 other ‘Percy Jackson' characters who deserve standalone novels From ‘Iron Man' to ‘Far From Home': Exploring Tony Stark's legacy within the MCU Dear ‘The Vampire Diaries': A love letter to Mystic Falls Is Star Wars setting up Poe Dameron as its first queer protagonist? We can't believe we're saying this, but welcome back to a new episode of Not Another Teen Wolf Podcast. Natalie and Karen have dusted off their mics and came together once again to talk about the future of this show. With a Teen Wolf Paramount+ movie on the horizon, and more to come from Jeff Davis and the cast of Teen Wolf, there's no telling what the future holds. But you can rest assured that Not Another Teen Wolf Podcast will be there every step of the way. THERE'S A TEEN WOLF MOVIE?!?! We absolutely do not remember how to do this show. We spoke two days ago elsewhere but we have not spoken on this show together for four years. We have some new developments about our writing careers and this podcast has a new homepage! Subjectify Media. We owe so much to Teen Wolf, in terms of our personal experience, what it's given us and how it's educated us in this ndustry. How did we feel about hearing this news? What were some of your fave responses from cast and fans? What do we think it says about the fandom and the ongoing interest in the show? Who do we think will come back? Who do we think won't? What is Dylan O'Brien DOING on Twitter? Weirdest desire for a prior character? Who would we like to force in there even though they're dead? We consider where the finale left off. It did not really have a resolution, in fact the pack was gearing up to face a bigger drama than they'd ever experienced before. How did that end up playing out? We try to recall the timeline. During season 6, 2017 in reality, the show was still in 2013, with a time jump to 21 year old Scott in 2015. If movie is being set in real time - 2022 - Scott will be 28 years old. Derek will be like, 35. Basically their ages in real life right now. GOD, what if one of them has CHILDREN? Does Teen Wolf follow Darwinian or Lamarckian evolution - like, can a turned werewolf have a natural werebaby if their partner is human?  Maybe they should all just adopted abandoned monster children. What couples might still be together or not? Melissa/Chris? Scott/Malia? Stiles/Lydia? Sheriff/Natalie Martin? Corey/Mason? Jackson/Ethan? Derek/Braeden? We don't even know what to speculate on. Karen wants to see some new creatures, but Natalie thinks it will be human villains. Jeff Davis also has two new shows on Paramount Plus - Aeon Flux and Wolf Pack. What are we thinking about those at the moment? We have listener feedback! We can't believe it! Thanks for listening after all this time! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Natalie Fisher. Not Another Teen Wolf Podcast was the first-ever Teen Wolf podcast in existence, offering its listeners an in-depth analysis of the hit MTV show. Never Have I Ever... left an unaired podcast episode in drafts for over a year due to a global pandemic! What we have here is a throwback episode** that includes a long discussion of the excellent first season of Never Have I Ever, inspired by the topic of well-executed love triangles. With the second season coming out in a matter of days, catch up with us to find out if we are Team Ben or Team Paxton as we reflect on all the things that make this show fantastic. Since Ariana picked love triangles as both her hype AND her gripe, we also learned about all the things wrong with the love triangles in Gossip Girl, Jane the Virgin and To All The Boys: PS I Still Love You. We also reminisce over our Rewatchable season about Pitch, coo over the bromance between Tom Holland and Jake Gyllenhaal and sing the praises of Prodigal Son season 1. Little did we know that our time with that masterpiece was limited.  On a trickier note, Natalie is struggling with the pressure of expectation to like a piece of media that friends recommend due to their emotional attachment to it, a situation that can be difficult as both the pusher and the pushee, and Brittany brings to light the sad reality that we're all struggling with our reading speeds these days.  **Here's the deal, folks. Back in the first lockdown, we recorded two episodes back to back - one specifically focusing on the growing issues of COVID and one escapist one, completely avoiding talking about COVID. Due to the State of Things in 2020, the Coronavirus special quickly - as in, within a few days - became dated and not appropriate to air any more, so we canned the two-part special. However THIS part, the "No-rona" partner half, is, upon re-listening, actually fine and relatively evergreen, aside from the part where Prodigal Son has since been rudely and cruelly cancelled. Given the return of Never Have I Ever, this seemed like the perfect moment to publish it. Spoiler Warning: Part of this episode involves massive spoilers for season 1 cliffhanger of Prodigal Son. Although the show is now complete, if you plan to watch, you should skip this spoiler. The BIG spoiler discussion begins at around 1 hour 18 min and finishes at around 1 hr 27min. It's the Supernatural Special Series that absolutely no one asked for! During 2021, Natalie is forcing forever-newbie Brittany to watch Supernatural in its entirety - an episode a day, taking us all the way to the end of the year to cover 15 seasons and 327 episodes. Although this rewatch is merely a social event taking place within a group chat "book club" of about ten good friends, we couldn't help share some of our thoughts in podcast form, so you're getting one episode per season, and we'll be joined each season by another member of our Winchester Gospels Book Club. This time it's Maria Greig, perhaps better known to fic readers as aeli_kindara on AO3. And so this is season 1, in which we meet Sam and Dean, fall in love, and consider the implications of the story from day 1 with the retroactive knowledge of both Chuck's twisted endgame and the series finale. Natalie struggles with the show's intention for Sam as a protagonist, Maria creates the John Winchester's A+ Parenting Spreadsheet to end all spreadsheets, and Brittany deems John The Worst Person She's Ever Had The Pleasure Of Watching On TV. Chinhandsing over Dean from all parties is to be expected, but we are fascinated by the reminders that the Dean we've grown to expect wasn't always like that - that the trauma that hardens him happens to him over the course of the series, and that the Dean we first meet is the Dean we're always wanting him to get back to. You can expect a hype and gripe from each of us about a general premise or concept of the season, as well as a bit of a chat about favorite and least favorite episodes. By the way, Brittany's top episode of season 1 was Bugs. This podcast is NOT spoiler free for the rest of the series. Season 2 of Not About The Weather is here! There's a new Presidential Administration and we feel like it's finally safe to come out of our holes. We explain the reason for our longer hiatus and attempt to get back into the swing of things. On the agenda today: it's trashy romance novel time for Brittany in both her hype and her gripe, Natalie takes issue with the lack of brand-new stories finding their place on television but hypocritically has plenty of praise for a new show that's tied very heavily to some hugely prominent intellectual property, and Karen simply has too many books, as well as too many feelings about Mortal Kombat.
