36 And one of the Pharisees desired him to eat with him. And he went into the house of the Pharisee, and sat down to meat. 37 And behold a woman that was in the city, a sinner, when she knew that he sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment;Et ecce mulier, quae erat in civitate peccatrix, ut cognovit quod accubuisset in domo pharisaei, attulit alabastrum unguenti : 38 And standing behind at his feet, she began to wash his feet, with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.et stans retro secus pedes ejus, lacrimis coepit rigare pedes ejus, et capillis capitis sui tergebat, et osculabatur pedes ejus, et unguento ungebat. 39 And the Pharisee, who had invited him, seeing it, spoke within himself, saying: This man, if he were a prophet, would know surely who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him, that she is a sinner. 40 And Jesus answering, said to him: Simon, I have somewhat to say to thee. But he said: Master, say it.Et respondens Jesus, dixit ad illum : Simon, habeo tibi aliquid dicere. At ille ait : Magister, dic. 41 A certain creditor had two debtors, the one who owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.Duo debitores erant cuidam foeneratori : unus debebat denarios quingentos, et alius quinquaginta. 42 And whereas they had not wherewith to pay, he forgave them both. Which therefore of the two loveth him most?Non habentibus illis unde redderent, donavit utrisque. Quis ergo eum plus diligit? 43 Simon answering, said: I suppose that he to whom he forgave most. And he said to him: Thou hast judged rightly.Respondens Simon dixit : Aestimo quia is cui plus donavit. At ille dixit : Recte judicasti. 44 And turning to the woman, he said unto Simon: Dost thou see this woman? I entered into thy house, thou gavest me no water for my feet; but she with tears hath washed my feet, and with her hairs hath wiped them. 45 Thou gavest me no kiss; but she, since she came in, hath not ceased to kiss my feet. 46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint; but she with ointment hath anointed my feet. 47 Wherefore I say to thee: Many sins are forgiven her, because she hath loved much. But to whom less is forgiven, he loveth less.Propter quod dico tibi : remittuntur ei peccata multa, quoniam dilexit multum. Cui autem minus dimittitur, minus diligit. 48 And he said to her: Thy sins are forgiven thee.Dixit autem ad illam : Remittuntur tibi peccata. 49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves: Who is this that forgiveth sins also? 50 And he said to the woman: Thy faith hath made thee safe, go in peace.

In this engaging episode, Brent tackles a fascinating question posed by Tiago Leyte about contrafacts and their role in jazz improvisation. Explaining the concept of contrafacts as new melodies crafted over existing chord progressions, Brent shares the benefits of exploring and composing these musical variations. Drawing on examples like rhythm changes and the classic contrafact "Oleo" by Sonny Rollins, he demonstrates how creating original counter-effects can enhance improvisational skills by focusing on crafting expressive melodies rather than relying solely on scales and patterns. He discusses invaluable insights into the process of composing counter-effects, emphasizing the importance of simplicity, singability, and thematic repetition. Through practical advice and demonstration, he encourages musicians to experiment with composing their own melodies over familiar chord changes, fostering a deeper understanding of melody and musical expression in jazz improvisation. Don't miss this opportunity to unlock new creative avenues in your jazz journey by exploring the world of contrafacts. Tune in now for a dose of inspiration and practical tips to elevate your improvisational skills.Important Links:Free Guide to learning standards by ear: Learn Jazz Standards the Smart WayLJS Inner Circle MembershipListen to the Learn Jazz Standards PodcastLearn Jazz Standards Inner Circle: Get 50% off your first month! This episode takes us back to one of our favourite fruits, the mighty lemon. We adore lemons in so many ways, both sweet and savoury. Oleo-Saccharum is a syrup made from lemon peels. This is great if you are making a recipe using lemon juice and then don't quite know what to do with the peels. Here is a solution that keeps the peels out of the compost bin, and you end up with a delicious sweet and zingy syrup. And you can also use any citrus fruit you love - oranges, grapefruit, lime, or a combination of any of these! Oleo-Saccharum is made by marinating citrus peels in sugar until you have a syrup to strain out (about 24 hours). It doesn't make a lot, but the flavour is intense. It is commonly used in cocktails, it can also be drizzled over roasted veggies or on ice cream. We used it for drinks, one cocktail and one non-alcoholic mocktail. Erin made a White Linen Mocktail using non-alcoholic gin, oleo-saccharum, rose water, cucumber and soda. Heather made an Oleo Lemon Drop Martini with vodka, oleo-saccharum, and cointreau. Give Oleo-Saccharum a try and let us know what you make with it! Let us weep for our sins.

--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/cinefiliando/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/cinefiliando/support

Minority 3. Tenderly 4. Peace Piece *Suscríbete a nuestro canal. We're joined by comedian and historian Nash Flynn, who had us laughing hysterically throughout this dark story about funeral rituals. She tells us how Victorian capitalism ruined funerals by magnifying social inequality even after death. We discuss poorhouses and the poor laws of 17th Century London before examining death rituals from the Victorian era in England and America. Nash Flynn is one of the two hosts of the Death and Friends podcast – a comedy show that deals with death and its relation to history, culture, and art. She also cohosts a new podcast called Tomorrow, Today with Andy of the Poor Proles Almanac. They interview researchers and academics about the shape of the future. In addition to these two podcasts, Nash runs several comedy shows, including KO and Cabin Fever. The latter is a nonprofit which raises money for Black Lives Matter. Nash obtained her masters in history after studying death-way trends through gravestone iconography and changes in burial rituals. It was a proud moment for the Major Scale to have the chance to speak with Karl Berger. Active since the 1960s, Berger has forged a career as a composer and vibist with an ear for talent, arranging, and bringing a sense of melody and groove to the avant-garde. Taking a cue from his first encounter with Don Cherry, jazz's legendary gypsy traveller and inventor of World Beat. Berger has recorded under his own leadership with luminaries like Carla Bley, Ornette Coleman, and Lee Konitz – as well being tapped to enrich the music of Jeff Buckley, Natalie Merchant, and even Britney Spears! The Da Capo Trio are an unsigned group with an amazing and fresh take on one of the basics: the jazz trio. Drums, bass, and the Fender Rhodes piano sound get a 21st century treatment with dazzling virtuosity and accessibility. With their set of originals, standards (Oleo), and surprising arrangements (Pat Matheny), classic jazz jargon says it best here with the Da Capo Trio "so far out, that they're in."
