Pianist Quynh Nguyen discusses her recording of the complete piano works of Paul Chihara, the distinguished American composer whose output includes the scores for over 100 motion pictures and television series. Past exchanges between performer and composer about the items on the programme reflect an intensely deep and detailed collaboration, with AllMusic.com warmly welcoming the album as “ingenious and richly evocative and beautifully and quietly played … this is a wonderful release.” Raymond Bisha presents.
The FTSE 100 enjoyed a bright start following news the Federal Reserve held interest US rates last night and ruled additional hikes ‘unlikely'. Shell gained as the market opened, after unveiling a new $3.5 billion share buyback on the back of better-than-expected first-quarter results. Embattled hospitality firm Revolution confirmed takeover interest from Piano Works owner Nightcap, as the group continues to eke out a survival plan. Publisher Reach pleased investors early on, as confidence in meeting full-year expectations despite lower first-quarter revenue sent shares 6% higher. In Europe, weight loss drug giant Novo Nordisk announced a production ramp-up on growing US patient numbers as first-quarter earnings beat expectations. And finally, Uber faced renewed pressure as news emerged London black cab drivers were to sue the company for £250 million on Thursday. #ProactiveInvestors #marketreport #ftse #ftse100 #footsie #shell #revolution #pianoworks #nightcap #reach #novonordisk #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

Raymond Bisha introduces the fifteenth and final volume in Konstantin Scherbakov's recordings of the complete piano works of Leopold Godowsky, on the Marco Polo label, in which the programme comprises a number of the arrangements Godowsky made of Chopin's Études. Reflecting on his mammoth undertaking, the virtuoso pianist notes that “this project to record Leopold Godowsky's complete piano works began in 1997 and has taken me 26 years to complete. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that this is one of the largest and most important recording projects of the piano repertoire, through which many works have received their premiere recordings.”

We had the pleasure of interviewing Gabríel Ólafs over Zoom video!Lullabies soundtrack the most formative season of our development. For centuries, parents have hummed them to children as either a salve to ease stress, a natural aid to trigger sleep, or a simple reminder that all will be well in the world once morning comes. Imprinted upon our memories and carried within our hearts for lifetimes, we pass them from one generation to the next. Icelandic composer and artist Gabríel Ólafs continues this tradition on his 2023 album, Lullabies for Piano and Cello [Decca Records US]. After generating over 100 million streams for his original instrumental compositions and earning widespread international acclaim, he summons the spirit of timeless Icelandic lullabies with a twist of his own magic.Gabríel's uncanny melodic sensibility has elevated him to the forefront of contemporary classical music. Following years of writing and performing, he gained international renown with Absent Minded in 2019 followed by Piano Works a year later, hailed by PopMatters as “a testament to the power of melody and mood.” 2022's Solon Islandus marked his debut for Decca Records US, Atwood Magazine described standout track “The Drifter” as “beautifully tender and achingly visceral.”On Solon Islandus, he effectively traced a creative roadmap through Iceland's artistic and cultural history in order to gain a deeper understanding of its conscious and subconscious impact on his own persona and vision. In particular, he leaned on the writing of renowned Icelandic poet Davíð Stefánsson, drawing inspiration from his body work and absorbing its spirit in the album.Beyond his own family experiences, he recalled hearing of a famous book entitled Icelandic Folk Songs. Originally published in 1906, this out-of-print tome collated various folk numbers and lullabies with rare sheet music. At the suggestion of a friend, Gabríel found a copy. He decided to not only reimagine five of the book's tunes, but to also pen five of his own lullabies as an homage and response to tradition.Accompanied by cellist Steiney Sigurðardóttir, the duo tracked the album in Reykjavik's Eldborg Concert Hall. Following the implementation of choir, orchestra, and cinematic heft on Solon Islandus, Gabríel made a conscious decision to strip the sound down to just these two instruments. As opposed to electronics, multi-tracking provided expansive flourishes. Together, Gabríel and Steiney unlocked a striking sound reliant on their quiet chemistry and a rich connection. We want to hear from you! Celebrate two years of Yesshift with us! There are also a couple birthdays this week. With Igor Khoroshev's coming up, we're talking a bit about Piano Works, continuing our "first solo album since joining Yes" series. And for Peter Banks' upcoming birthday, we're highlighting Something's Coming / Beyond and Before: The BBC Recordings, which even came with liner notes written by Banks! (Trevor Horn's birthday is also coming up, but we'll be doing a review of his autobiography on Saturday at noon PDT.) We'll then segue into a discussion of a huge part of music fandom: music stores! Steven acquired a few Yes-related items from Amoeba Music in Hollywood a few weeks ago, and we'll each talk about the experience of collecting in-person via music stores and what interesting finds we've had in the past. Steven will also share highlights from the Jon Anderson Zoom Q&A a few weeks back. And we'll close by looking ahead at what we have coming up! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/yesshift/support

Verket ar for violin, cello, piano och stor orkester. Welcome to Own Your Voice! On today's episode, I had the opportunity to interview Khaya Maseko, an incredible European actor and entertainer! He first made his mark in the musical theater world, which began at the South African National Children’s Theatre. After winning a Naledi Award for Best Newcomer, he joined Disney’s "The Lion King" as cover Simba and part of the ensemble, which took him to Hong Kong, Switzerland and across the UK! In late 2016, he made the decision to pivot his music career and focus on his journey as a solo artist - a decision he made after starting a job as a singer and pianist at the Piano Works in Farringdon. Soon after, he began work on his first EP entitled “Better Late Than Never”. Khaya is also a part time composer and has composed dance pieces for Hong Kong's Fringe festival and The Place’s “Resolution” Dance festival.Check out his socials here - @khayafhaya I https://www.khayamusic.co.ukBefore you go, don't forget to subscribe to the podcast and STAY TUNED for pt. 2, to be released tomorrow! Hennes opera Angel's Bone hade världspremiär 2016 vid Prototype festival i New York. State University of New York, Purchase College. Hon vill kommunicera med all slags musik. Dock inte koreansk. Maestro 008: feat. Impressionistic Piano Works, Part 1 1. Anthony Goldstone "The Bumble Bee" (mp3) from "A Night at the Opera - Liszt, Gluck, Chopin, et al." (Divine Art) Buy at iTunes Music Store Buy at Rhapsody Buy at Napster Buy at appliedSB / Groupietunes Buy at Puretracks Buy at mTraks More On This Album "Flight of the Bumblebee" is an orchestral interlude written by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov for his opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan, composed in 1899–1900. The piece closes Act III, Tableau 1, right after the magic Swan-Bird gives Prince Gvidon Saltanovich (the Tsar's son) instructions on how to change into an insect so that he can fly away to visit his father (who does not know that he is alive). Although in the opera the Swan-Bird sings during the first part of the "Flight", her vocal line is melodically uninvolved and easily omitted; this feature, combined with the fact that the number decisively closes the scene, made easy extraction as an orchestral concert piece possible. Nicolas Rimsky-Korsakov was a Russian composer, and a member of the group of composers known as "The Five." Noted particularly for a predilection for folk and fairy-tale subjects as well as his extraordinary skill in orchestration, his best known orchestral compositions—Capriccio espagnol, Russian Easter Festival Overture, and the symphonic suite Scheherazade—are considered staples of the classical music repertoire, along with suites and excerpts from some of his 15 operas. 2. Marzia Ragazzoni, Fabiana Ragazzoni "Dalle Sei Burlesken, Op. 58 per pianoforte a quattro mani" (mp3) from "Cuore Ragione Ironia" (Materiali Sonori) Buy at iTunes Music Store Stream from Rhapsody More On This Album Max Reger was a German composer, conductor, pianist, organist, and teacher. During a composing life of little more than 25 years, Reger produced an enormous output in all genres, nearly always in abstract forms, although few of his compositions are well known today. Many of his works are fugues or in variation form, including what is probably his best known orchestral work, the Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Mozart (based on the opening theme of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Piano Sonata, K. 331). He also wrote a large amount of music for organ, including the Fantasy and Fugue on BACH (this piece, based on the BACH motif, is considered one of the most difficult and demanding in organ literature). He was particularly attracted to the fugal form his entire life, once remarking: "Other people write fugues - I live inside them". He composed music in virtually every genre—opera being a notable exception.
