Keine Spekulationen. Keine Trailer. Keine Verschiebung. Absolut nichts. Versprochen. Also hört auf, danach zu fragen. Sony has announced that they are discontinuing the printing of video game discs within the next few years. You will not just own nothing and be happy, you will own nothing and play games. Besides the lack of physical ownership, the real issue is digital vulnerability, removal of digital content already purchased, price discrimination, and the elimination of classical gaming communities. That, and also the availability of disc drives and discs at premium prices suddenly. Also, if you thought some people were fooled by Secret Space Program stories inspired by movies and games, wait until VR and AR become far more mainstream.*The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. Exploring the Latest in Retro Gaming: What You Need to Know Meta Description: Dive into the fascinating world of retro gaming as we explore the latest releases, must-have collectibles, and why nostalgia matters for gamers today. Welcome to Podcast for Sci-Fi, where all things sci-fi come to life. In this episode, we delve into the exciting realm of retro gaming, discussing the latest releases and collectibles. If you’ve ever wondered about the resurgence of retro consoles and why they captivate gamers, this post will break it down for you, including insights on recent releases and what to look for in your next purchase. What's New in Retro Gaming? Retro gaming has seen a massive resurgence in recent years, with new systems and re-releases capturing the hearts of both old-school gamers and a new generation. Companies like Retro Games Limited have introduced mini versions of classic consoles, allowing you to relive your childhood without needing to track down original hardware. The Commodore and Amiga Minis One of the most talked-about releases is the Commodore 64 Mini and the A500 Mini. While they may lack working keyboards, they do allow players to enjoy classic games. The A500 Mini, in particular, has generated buzz for its compact size and nostalgic value. Pricing and Availability With prices ranging around $189 for the Amiga 1200, many gamers are eager to get their hands on these systems that promise to deliver classic gaming experiences. They often come with built-in classic games, making them a great way to dive back into gaming history. The Neo Geo: A Blast from the Past Another exciting piece of news is the upcoming release of the Neo Geo console. Known for its high price point during its original run, it’s now available for pre-order at $249. This console aims to deliver the authentic experience of the original system, with classic games available on cartridges. The High Price of Nostalgia While the Neo Geo is a nostalgic gem, the pricing of its games remains a debated topic. At around $89.99 for individual cartridges, many wonder if this pricing is justified in today's market, especially when alternatives exist on mobile platforms for a fraction of the price. Why Nostalgia Matters in Gaming The revival of retro gaming isn't just about the consoles; it's about the memories and experiences they evoke. For many, these games represent simpler times, and the thrill of re-experiencing those moments draws players back to the original joy of gaming. The Emotional Connection Nostalgia plays a significant role in the gaming community, connecting people through shared experiences. Whether it's the thrill of defeating a boss in a classic game or simply reliving childhood moments, retro gaming fosters emotional connections that newer games sometimes fail to replicate. Key Takeaways Retro gaming is thriving with new releases and mini consoles. The Commodore 64 and Amiga Minis are popular choices for nostalgia lovers. The Neo Geo is making a comeback, but its game pricing is controversial. Nostalgia fuels a strong emotional connection to gaming experiences. Conclusion The world of retro gaming is rich with opportunities for both collectors and casual players. As nostalgia continues to drive the market, it's essential to stay updated on the latest releases and understand the value they bring. Whether you're looking to relive childhood memories or explore gaming history, there's something in the retro gaming scene for everyone. For more insights and discussions, stay tuned to our podcast! In this episode of The Jonathan Wier Show, Jonathan and co-host Cody Akins tackle the upcoming NFL schedule release (Thursday, May 14th at 7 PM CT) and debate which team they want the Chiefs to open against. Cody wants the Jets for an easy motivational win, but Jonathan argues for the Seahawks — repossess their banner on banner night and give Kenneth Walker his revenge game. The conversation pivots to a bigger problem: the NFL is becoming the world's biggest mall. With games now scattered across Netflix, Peacock, Prime, Paramount+, YouTube, and Netflix again, Jonathan argues the league is sacrificing its big-box-store accessibility for greed. He doesn't mind games on different days — but the fragmentation across paid services is going to cost them casual fans. The guys then debate the Star Fox 64 remake for Switch 2. Cody is genuinely excited (and hopeful it signals an Ocarina of Time remake for Zelda's 40th anniversary). Jonathan sees it as another nostalgia trap — Nintendo knows aging millennials will buy it no matter how much they complain, the same playbook George Lucas ran with the Star Wars Special Editions in the '90s. They close on tech policy: Utah trying to ban VPNs (unenforceable and ignores how cellular IPs work), and Meta rolling out AI age verification because kids are bypassing checks with mustaches, hats, haircuts, and makeup. Jonathan's takeaway — parents need to stop delegating parenting to the government. Talk to your kids. Block sites on your router. Do the work.

In this episode, we take a closer look at the GameSir Pocket Taco, a $34.99 vertical mobile gaming controller designed for retro and arcade gaming on the go. This compact Bluetooth controller attaches to the bottom of your phone in portrait orientation, featuring cushioned membrane face buttons that evoke the feel of classic handhelds like the Game Boy, paired with tactile-switch triggers and bumpers for more responsive input. At just 62 grams and small enough to fit in a provided storage case, it's built for portability, with thoughtful touches like auto power-on when unfolded, a hollow-bottom design for charging during play, and silicone pads to protect your device. The GameSir app unlocks button remapping, turbo functions, and a keyboard mode that lets you play games without native controller support, making it a versatile option for emulator enthusiasts and casual mobile gamers. We discuss whether the vertical form factor fills a genuine niche, how the hybrid button design balances nostalgia with performance, and whether Bluetooth latency is a concern for fast-paced retro titles—ultimately exploring who this controller is really for and whether it earns a spot in your mobile gaming kit.
