3 Martini Lunch
Talarico's Toxic Masculinity, Tucker Bolts the GOP, Marxists Win in NYC | Last Call

Welcome to Last Call, a look at the biggest stories Jim and Greg covered over the past week on the 3 Martini Lunch. This week they discuss Texas U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico's ridiculous comments on whiteness and masculinity, Tucker Carlson leaving the Republican Party, major wins for socialists in New York City congressional races, and a media narrative lamenting the impact of lower crime rates on local businesses.First, they react to Talarico's absurd statements in his latest podcast appearance. His streak of insane woke rhetoric continues as he says that his imagination is limited by his "whiteness and masculinity.” Jim and Greg wonder when the left's obsession with identity will end.Next, Jim and Greg react to Tucker Carlson's exit from the Republican Party. Despite speaking at the 2024 Republican National Convention, Carlson now says he regrets his support for Trump and he denounces the GOP for its "betrayal of the American people.” Jim comments on the erratic state of politics today and both wonder what Tucker's next move might be. Then, they wince as avowed Marxists win the Democratic nomination in three New York City congressional districts. They were all endorsed by socialist NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Is this additional proof that open socialists are taking over the Democratic Party or will their radicalism actually help Republicans in November? Finally, they laugh at the media's attempt to frame falling crime rates as a negative development. Oakland, California has seen a significant reduction in car break-ins, but some reporting has focused on the impact that fewer repairs could have on auto glass businesses. Jim and Greg discuss how the coverage unintentionally falls for one of economics' most basic fallacies. Please visit our great sponsors:AG1Visit https://DrinkAG1.com/3ML Get a FREE Morning Person Hat and a FREE AG1 Flavor Sampler in your Welcome Kit with your first AG1 subscription.Fast Growing Trees Better plants, better growing, and an extra 20% off with code MARTINI at https://FastGrowingTrees.com/Martini for a limited time; terms and conditions may apply.QuoMoney is on the line. Join Jim and Greg for the Monday 3 Martini Lunch as they address Vice President JD Vance's optimism about a permanent Iran deal and Jim's frustrations with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the resignation of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Tucker Carlson leaving the Republican Party, and a media narrative lamenting the impact of lower crime rates on local businesses.First, Jim and Greg discuss Vice President JD Vance's excitement over the ongoing peace talks with Iran in Switzerland. Jim explains why he's not as bullish as Vance is and why he's staunchly opposed to the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding. Jim also worries we have surrendered our three main sources of leverage over Iran.Next, they examine the political turmoil in the UK following Keir Starmer's resignation as prime minister. He became the sixth prime minister to step down in the last 10 years. Jim argues that the government's refusal to address real issues like immigration and crime will only lead to more public unrest. Then, Jim and Greg react to Tucker Carlson's exit from the Republican Party. Despite speaking at the 2024 Republican National Convention, Carlson now says he regrets his support for Trump and he denounces the GOP for its "betrayal of the American people.” Jim comments on the erratic state of politics today and both wonder what Tucker's next move might be. Finally, they laugh at the media's attempt to frame falling crime rates as a negative development. For 30 years, journalist Amy Goodman has been “going to where the silence is” to report stories that the powerful would rather you not know about and the corporate media have often ignored. She has stared down armed soldiers in Nigeria, survived a massacre in East Timor, documented dogs attacking indigenous pipeline protesters in North Dakota, and been manhandled and arrested while covering the 2008 Republican National Convention. Amy Goodman is the host and executive producer of “Democracy Now!” — the award-winning independent daily news program that she co-founded in 1996. She is also my sister, and we co-wrote four bestselling books. She is the first journalist to receive the Right Livelihood Award, widely known as the “Alternative Nobel Prize,” for “developing an innovative model of truly independent grassroots political journalism that brings to millions of people the alternative voices that are often excluded by the mainstream media.” Now a new documentary film called “Steal This Story, Please!” traces Amy's career and the growth of “Democracy Now!” from a radio broadcast on nine stations into one of the leading U.S.-based independent daily news broadcasts in the world on television, radio and online. The film is directed by Oscar-nominated filmmakers Carl Deal and Tia Lessin. This week, “Steal This Story, Please!” is showing in Vermont in Burlington, Brattleboro, St. Johnsbury and Montpelier.Amy has gone to some of the places around the world where the light is dimmest, often putting herself in danger, and has been persistent in her belief that our freedom of the press is critical to a meaningful democracy at home. “The idea that movements matter, that we have to go to where the silence is as journalists. … It's often not silent. It's raucous, it's rowdy, people are organizing, but it doesn't hit the corporate media radar screen,” she said. “That's where ‘Democracy Now!' lives, and that's really where the hope is.”Last week came the development that the U.S. Department of Justice is closing its antitrust investigation into a merger that would allow Paramount Skydance to buy Warner Bros. Discovery for $110 billion, and with it countless media properties that include CBS and CNN.“People who care about war and peace, climate change, reproductive rights, LGBTQ issues, racial and economic equality are not a fringe minority, not even a silent majority, but the silenced majority — silenced by the corporate media, which is why we have to take the media back,” she said. “The media can be the greatest force for peace on Earth.”

There will be a variety of celebrations to honor America's two-hundred-and-fiftieth anniversary this year. Much of it is to be expected: fireworks, red, white, and blue lights, even a military parade. But something else is happening, something that probably wouldn't occur if anyone other than Donald Trump were President. The Ultimate Fighting Championship, the premier league for mixed martial arts, is staging a fight at the White House. The U.F.C. was founded in 1993, and exploded in popularity after Dana White took over as president of the company, in 2001. He's also been friends with Donald Trump for a quarter century, and spoke on the President's behalf at all three Republican National Conventions where Trump was the nominee. He's stumped for him at rallies, and Trump even called him up to speak at his victory celebration on Election Night in 2024. David Remnick and White discuss his remarkable rise to prominence, and his relationship with the increasingly unpopular President. “He's not a racist,” White tells Remnick. “He's not a fascist. He loves this country. And if you're an American—race, religion, whatever it is—President Trump is on your team, that I guarantee you.”Further reading:  “Donald Trump's U.F.C. Send us Fan MailIn this episode of Surviving Politics-ISH , the host calls out the repeated hypocrisy of anti-LGBTQ+ “traditional values” politicians and attendees who publicly push laws to keep gay people in the shadows while privately flooding Grindr at major conservative events. He describes reports of Grindr outages and spikes in blank “discreet” profiles during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, and says a similar outage pattern appeared around a Charlie Kirk memorial service in Arizona, as DownDetector activity rose in Glendale and Phoenix. He argues the cycle keeps repeating at big conservative gatherings, points to claims of local sex-work demand surging, and urges accountability for the gap between public platforms and private behavior, ending with a reminder to be real, be kind, and stop crashing the app. #SurvivingIshPolitics #RNC #Grindr #GOP #Hypocrisy #LGBTQ #GayRights #CharlieKirk #Conservative #Politics #Milwaukee #Arizona #Phoenix #Glendale #FamilyValuesSupport the show

He referred to Trump as an “idiot” and compared him to “America's Hitler,” declaring in a deleted 2016 post that Trump was “unfit for our nation's highest office.” He expressed opposition to Trump, stating he couldn't “stomach” him and calling him “noxious.” At one point, Vance even positioned himself as a “never Trump guy,” implying he might support Hillary Clinton if Trump was a strong contender. However, he reversed his stance upon accepting the Republican nomination for vice president at the 2024 Republican National Convention, claiming, “President Trump represents America's last best hope to restore… a country where a working-class boy, born far from the halls of power, can stand on this stage as the next vice president of the United States of America.”During the CBS News Vice Presidential Debate in 2024, Vance acknowledged his past disagreements with Trump but admitted he had been "wrong" about him.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

On this episode of American Potential, host David Fromm sits down with Pennsylvania activist Angelina Banks to talk about taking that “one small step” into civic engagement—and how it changed her life. What started as frustration over local school board decisions turned into a journey through party politics, running for office, serving as a committee person, and even representing her county at the Republican National Convention. Angelina shares how moving back to Pennsylvania opened her eyes to the impact of public policy, why local government matters more than most people realize, and how just a handful of phone calls or voices can influence elected officials. She talks candidly about the costs of speaking out—strained relationships, social backlash—and why she believes it's still worth it to defend the principles that built America. It's a conversation about courage, conviction, and how everyday citizens can move from yelling at the TV to making a real difference.

More To The Story: Detroit pastor Lorenzo Sewell is one of the most prominent Black conservatives in President Donald Trump's orbit. It all started last summer when the president visited Sewell's 180 Church while campaigning in Detroit. A month later, Sewell spoke at the Republican National Convention. And in January, he prayed for the new president during his inauguration inside the US Capitol. As Sewell's voice echoed around the domed rotunda, the prayer sounded familiar to many. That's because Sewell adapted Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous “I Have a Dream” speech. As Trump dismantles DEI policies around the country and pushes efforts to erase Black history from schools and museums, Sewell remains one of the president's most prominent Black defenders and argues that the Trump presidency is actually improving Black Americans' lives. On this week's More To The Story, Sewell sits down with host Al Letson to talk about his upbringing as a drug dealer in Detroit, his conversion to Christianity, and his inauguration prayer. Letson challenges Sewell's ideas about racism, his support of Charlie Kirk, and his defense of the Trump administration's rollback of DEI policies.Producer: Josh Sanburn | Editor: Kara McGuirk-Allison | Theme music: Fernando Arruda and Jim Briggs | Copy editor: Nikki Frick | Digital producer: Artis Curiskis | Deputy executive producer: Taki Telonidis | Executive producer: Brett Myers | Executive editor: James West | Host: Al Letson Donate today at Revealnews.org/more Subscribe to our weekly newsletter at Revealnews.org/weekly Follow us on Instagram and Bluesky Watch: I Spent a Week With Black Republicans (Mother Jones)Listen: Red, Black, and Blue (Reveal)Read: Trump Shuts Down Diversity Programs Across Government (Mother Jones)Listen: The Bible Says So…or Does It? The Republican Convention and the Rise of Harding — David Pietrusza — The June 1920 Republican National Convention in Chicago failed to nominate any of the leading frontrunners, including Hiram Johnson, General Leonard Wood, or Herbert Hoover. Harding, who initially sought the nomination primarily to enhance his Senate reelection prospects, ultimately prevailed because party delegates perceived him as an acceptable compromise candidate representing no extreme faction. The Republican platform regarding the League of Nations was deliberately left vague and ambiguous to accommodate the severely fractured party divisions. 1929 HOOVER

4. The Republican Convention: Harding Emerges from the Smoke-Filled Room David Pietrusza 1920: The Year of the Six Presidents The Republican National Convention in Chicago in June 1920 was hot and chaotic. Leading candidates included Hiram Johnson, Leonard Wood, and Frank Lowden, while Warren Harding was a distant long shot, seeking the presidency partly to boost his reelection campaign for his Senate seat. The balloting quickly established the limits of the frontrunners. Because Republicans required only a majority for nomination, unlike the Democratic two-thirds rule, they were able to pivot to Harding, who was seen as an acceptable compromise. The Republican platform on the League of Nations was deliberately ambiguous, reflecting the deep division between internationalists like Hoover and isolationists like Lodge. 1913 WILSON OPENING DAY

One of Abraham Lincoln's staunchest and most effective allies, Judge David Davis masterminded the floor fight that gave Lincoln the presidential nomination at the 1860 Republican National Convention. This history-changing event emerged from a long friendship between the two men. It also altered the course of Davis's career, as Lincoln named him to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1862. In David Davis, Abraham Lincoln's Favorite Judge (University of Illinois Press, 2025), Raymond J. McKoski offers a biography of Davis's public life, his impact on the presidency and judiciary, and his personal, professional, and political relationships with Lincoln. Davis lent his vast network of connections, organizational and leadership abilities, and personal persuasiveness to help Lincoln's political rise. When Davis became a judge, he honed an ability to hear each case with complete impartiality, a practice that endeared him to Lincoln but one day put him at odds with the president over important Civil War-era rulings. McKoski details these cases while providing an in-depth account of Davis's role in Lincoln's two unsuccessful campaigns for U.S. Senate and the fateful run for the presidency. Raymond J. Hulk Hogan died recently. He's been denounced by some, praised by others. On his impact on the sport, pro wrestling historian Brian Soloman remarked on his passing "Wrestling history is divided in two parts: Before Hulk Hogan, and after Hulk Hogan…He was larger than life, inspired millions of people, many of whom spent decades being gradually let down by him.” But, also, some contend, his influence on our current cultural and political moment is significant as well. Generations are influenced by his muscles and swagger, he introduced Trump at last year's Republican National Convention and his personal political actions are also worth noting. In our latest, we talk with our friend and comrade, and host of This is Revolution, Jason Myles about Hogan's importance.Bio//Jason Myles is a writer, musician and co-host of This is Revolution Podcast. ------------------------------------------Outro- Green and Red Blues by Moody

Meet my friends, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton! If you love Verdict, the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show might also be in your audio wheelhouse. Politics, news analysis, and some pop culture and comedy thrown in too. Here’s a sample episode recapping four Thursday takeaways. Give the guys a listen and then follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. RIP Hulk Hogan and Russiagate 101 The shocking report of wrestling icon Hulk Hogan’s death at age 71. Clay reflects on Hogan’s cultural impact during the 1980s and 1990s, his recent appearance at the Republican National Convention, and his vocal support for President Donald Trump. The hour opens with a tribute to Hogan’s legacy in sports entertainment and American pop culture. The episode then transitions into a deep-dive breakdown of the Russiagate scandal, prompted by listener feedback requesting clarity on the complex narrative. Clay outlines the origins of the Russia collusion narrative following Trump’s 2016 election victory, emphasizing how the media, intelligence community, and Democratic establishment allegedly collaborated to delegitimize Trump’s presidency. He argues that the narrative was built on misinformation and politically motivated leaks, leading to years of investigations that ultimately found no evidence of collusion. Clay also discusses the Supreme Court’s 2024 ruling on presidential immunity, suggesting it could shield former President Barack Obama from potential legal consequences related to the 2016 surveillance of the Trump campaign. He explores the implications of this precedent for future administrations and how it may influence accountability for figures like James Comey, John Brennan, James Clapper, and Hillary Clinton. Uncle Bill Confronts Evil Clay speaks with bestselling author and media veteran Bill O’Reilly on a range of issues, including the passing of wrestling legend Hulk Hogan at age 71. They reflect on Hogan’s iconic legacy and his pivotal legal victory over Gawker Media. They also explore Hogan’s cultural impact and transitions into a deeper discussion on O’Reilly’s upcoming book, Confronting Evil, which examines historical and modern manifestations of collective evil, including figures like Hitler, Stalin, and Putin. The hour intensifies with analysis of the Idaho murders and the chilling demeanor of the accused, Bryan Kohberger, as well as the broader implications of confronting individual versus systemic evil. O’Reilly and Travis then pivot to the explosive revelations from Tulsi Gabbard regarding the 2016 election and alleged misconduct by intelligence agencies. The discussion centers on former CIA Director John Brennan and the legal ramifications of knowingly using false information to obtain warrants, with O’Reilly suggesting potential prison time. The Epstein case resurfaces as Clay asks O’Reilly what advice he’d give President Trump amid renewed scrutiny. O’Reilly reveals he spoke with Trump earlier that day and advises full deferral to the Justice Department, warning against media manipulation and emphasizing the political weaponization of Epstein-related narratives. The conversation also touches on the Wall Street Journal’s reporting and the risks of releasing unverified names tied to Epstein, which could trigger massive lawsuits. Clay's Business Advice Deep dive into the latest developments in the Russiagate hoax and new revelations from Tulsi Gabbard and the long-term media and political implications. Clay also discusses the controversial decision by an Obama-appointed judge to block the release of grand jury testimony related to Jeffrey Epstein, highlighting ongoing concerns about transparency and justice. Sunny Hostin of The View says Stephen Colbert’s potential firing is a threat to democracy. Clay challenges her legal credibility, sparking a broader conversation about First Amendment rights, media accountability, and the economics of entertainment. He contrasts Colbert’s financial losses with the massive $1.5 billion deal awarded to South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, underscoring the market-driven nature of media success. GA Rep. Brian Jack Wants to Bring Boxing Back An exclusive interview with Congressman Brian Jack of Georgia’s 3rd District. Jack, a former Trump White House official, discusses his newly introduced Muhammad Ali American Boxing Revival Act, aimed at revitalizing professional boxing in the U.S. by modernizing outdated legislation. He emphasizes the need for innovation, athlete protections, and restoring boxing’s cultural relevance, with support from Lonnie Ali and the Association of Boxing Commissions. In a sports-meets-politics crossover, Travis praises NFL coach John Harbaugh for defending his visit to President Trump amid media scrutiny, calling it a “home run” response and a sign of shifting cultural courage in sports. The segment also touches on the resurgence of UFC and WWE, the decline of boxing, and the importance of American athletes reclaiming dominance in combat sports. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly Compensatory Call-In 07/26/25. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. This weekly broadcast examines current events from across the globe to learn what's happening in all areas of people activity. We cultivate Counter-Racist Media Literacy by scrutinizing journalists' word choices and using logic to deconstruct what is reported as "news." We'll use these sessions to hone our use of terms as tools to reveal truth, neutralize Racists/White people. #ANTIBLACKNESS For millions of Victims of Racism/non-white people who spent any portion of the 80's, 90's, or 2000's parked in front of a television screen, chances are high that you watched a few minutes of the Suspected Race Soldier known as Hulk Hogan. The entertainment behemoth spent a solid half century in front of television cameras, sometimes flagrantly engaged in or suspected of practicing White Supremacy/Racism. He even linked up with long time crony Pres. Donald J. Trump at the 2024 Republican National Convention to help him burst back into the White House for term two. And, the same television watchers will surely remember the handsome and talented works of the late Malcolm-Jamal Warner. Beloved for his role as "Theo" on The Cosby Show, Warner reportedly died this week in a swim accident while on family vacation in Costa Rica. Warner's tragic death reminded many C.O.W.S. listeners of the years of deliberate Racism that's left generations of black people unable to swim. We also share a word on President Trump trafficking AI-generated fake videos of former President Obama being arrested and Ms. Sheena Scarbrough's visit to the Wisconsin state capitol to advocate for her daughter Sade Robinson and a state task force for missing and murdered black females. #SoberWouldBeBest #INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: http://cash.app/$TheCOWS

Judging by how often US President Donald Trump has repeated the slogan “Drill, baby, drill”, you might think he coined it. But the phrase actually dates back to 2008. It was at the Republican National Convention that former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele first used it, arguing the United States needed to become energy independent. The slogan, the result of what Michael describes as a late-night epiphany, quickly entered the mainstream of American politics - adopted by a range of politicians in the years that followed. He shares his memories of that moment with Marco Silva. This programme contains archive from: C-SPAN, PBS Newshour, Fox News, and CNN.Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive. Witness History is for those fascinated by the past. We take you to the events that have shaped our world through the eyes of the people who were there.
