Today on MindMatters, Dr. Karen Mitchell, founder and CEO of the Kalmor Institute, shares insights from her pioneering PhD research on the "persistent predatory personality." Unlike previous studies that relied primarily on incarcerated populations or graduate students, Dr. Mitchell's work draws from the extensive experiences of practitioners who have dedicated their careers to working with individuals exhibiting dark triad traits and psychopathic tendencies. Her research includes data from professionals with an average of 22 years' experience in fields such as child sex abuse, domestic violence, cults, terrorism, toxic leadership, including an FBI agent with the highest number of serial killer cases. By canvassing these unique perspectives, her work offers a fresh approach to understanding and identifying the persistent predatory personality, highlighting the limitations of existing models like the Psychopathy Checklist developed by Robert Hare.

Zach Abraham joined us and we began by discussing what it looks like to do risk management well. We do this by looking at Taiwan Semiconductors and the companies who rely on them. Then, we got into a fascinating discussion. Based on statements by Robert Hare, a forensic psychologist, we decided to splay a game of financial psychopaths. We put ourselves as though we had a management role at BlackRock and played out what it will look like when they own 60% of all homes. We also discussed stocks and commodity and the story it tells about our government. What does God's Word say?
She married a man originally from Sydney, Australia. He took $227,000 from her. He cheated with at least six different women during their 2.5-year relationship. He had a child with one of the women. Then, 10 days after she left him, he married the mother of the child. It was the second time he committed bigamy. Of course, it was only after she left him that she discovered the extent of his betrayal. In the beginning, she thought she'd met the man of her dreams. Anderson found that he had told her two types of lies: Lies mixed with truth. His story would be plausible, but she'd notice inconsistencies. When she questioned the discrepancies, he would either explain them away or accuse her of being paranoid.Totally brazen lies. A normal person, even one prone to exaggeration, would never think of making extraordinary claims that he had made. Anderson left him but it wasn't until she went through the papers he left in her house and called some of the “other women” that she realized everything he told her was a lie. Her therapist suggested that the man might be a sociopath. After researching the topic she found a book, called Without Conscience by Dr. Robert Hare, an international expert on psychopaths (a form of sociopath). His book described he ex husband precisely.Anderson was shocked. She was even more shocked to learn that millions of these human predators live among us. She then realized that she had an important story to tell — and a warning to convey. After launching Lovefraud.com, Anderson wrote eight books. Her latest book is Senior Sociopaths — How to Recognize and Escape Lifelong Abusers. This episode of Skeptically Curious features the second interview with Dr. Kent Kiehl, one of the foremost contemporary experts on psychopathy, and author of The Psychopath Whisperer. This exceptional book recounts Dr. Kiehl's illustrious career while also serving as a lucid guide to the latest research on psychopathy. The first interview focused primarily on that book, while this episode moves well beyond its ambit. I began by asking Dr. Kiehl whether it is rare to find psychopaths drawn from higher socio-economic echelons, as was the case with someone dubbed Brendan in his book. We then took a plunge into the ever-knotty thickets of the free will debate, a detour during which such names as Sam Harris, Robert Sapolsky, and Daniel Dennett were evoked. Probably the lion's share of our discussion revolved around the inexhaustibly fascinating subject of serial killers, both real and imagined. I instigated this part of our conversation by asking my guest whether it is safe to assume that while not all psychopaths are serial killers, all serial killers should be classified as psychopaths. The answer is surprisingly not so straightforward. One of America's most notorious serial killers, Ted Bundy, helped to stoke Dr. Kiehl's interest in psychopathy as this infamous murderer was born a few blocks from his childhood home in Tacoma, Washington. Dr. Kiehl discussed other real-life killers including Jeffrey Dahmer, the Green River Killer, incidentally also from Washington State, and BTK. I could not resist asking my strikingly credentialed interlocutor about the accuracy of some famed fictional figures, such as Hannibal Lector and Dexter Morgan. I even asked Dr. Kiehl to cast a verdict on the potential veracity of my own as-yet-unpublished foray into the realm of imaginary serial murderers. After hearing his answer, I probably have some serious re-writing to do. We then discussed some of the popular books on psychopathy published around the same time as The Psychopath Whisperer, including Kevin Dutton's The Wisdom of Psychopaths and Jon Ronson's book, The Psychopath Test, which Dr. Kiehl described as basically a work of fiction, and a very irresponsible one at that. Instead, Dr. Kiehl urged listeners to rely on academics who have published in peer-reviewed journals for reliable information on psychopathy, including Adrian Raine, James Blair, Joe Newman, and, of course, Robert Hare. We ended on a more hopeful note by discussing possible treatment options for psychopathy. The most promising development in this regard is probably the Mendota Juvenile Treatment Centre in Madison, Wisconsin, which employs a decompression model to positively reinforce good behaviour. Dr. Kiehl writes about this in some detail in The Psychopath Whisperer and still enthusiastically praises its considerable success in comparison to other juvenile programmes. The impressive results suggest if troubled individuals are identified early in life and enough time and resources are spent to re-shape their behaviour, it is possible to prevent them from developing into clinically diagnosed psychopaths. Rarely does one have the opportunity to interview someone who, without any exaggeration, can be legitimately considered among a handful of leading figures in their respective field. This aptly describes Dr. Kent Kiehl's celebrated career as a world leading psychopathy expert. Furthermore, as anyone reading his superb 2014 memoir-cum-primer, The Psychopath Whisperer, will learn, Dr. Kiehl's career has intersected with some iconic luminaries, particularly in neuroscience and psychology, including Karl Friston, Michael Gazzaniga, the Nobel Prize winning mathematician John Nash, and the grandfather of modern psychopath research, Dr. Robert Hare, creator of the Psychopathy Checklist, which is still the unsurpassed gold standard of assessment. Dr. Kiehl completed his undergraduate degree at the University of California-Davis and earned a doctorate under Dr. Hare at the University of British Columbia. Putting his studies to practical use, for several years he worked in a maximum-security prison in Canada. Thereafter, he was affiliated with Yale and the Institute of Living, and for the last fifteen years has been a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of New Mexico where he heads the Mind Research Network, a non-profit institute. During his work at the latter institution, Dr. Kiehl and his team have used a mobile fMRI to scan the brains of over 5000 inmates in five states. In the interview, after Dr. Kiehl summarised his storied career, he spent quite some time reflecting on the scientific method, which included relating this to his own work. I asked my guest to provide the so-called “dinner party” definition of psychopathy. He then clarified the distinction between psychosis and psychopathy, as well as sociopathy and psychopathy. As we discussed, and is elaborated upon in more detail in The Psychopath Whisperer, among the principle reasons for Dr. Kiehl's esteemed stature are the landmark contributions he has made using two of the primary imaging tools in neuroscience, namely EEG and fMRI, which stand for electroencephalography and Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging, respectively, techniques he kindly first explained before moving onto describing his research findings. In short, after repeatedly identifying a correlation between high scores on the Psychopathy Checklist and the volume and structure of certain brain areas, Dr. Kiehl formulated what he has dubbed the Paralimbic Dysfunction Model of Psychopathy. Impressively, this is now among the most robust findings in the field. As uncomfortable as it may be for some to accept, psychopaths simply have different brains to those of us not so designated. The last major topic we discussed was whether, in light of these findings, psychopaths are born or made, which then segued into possible interventions to ameliorate these traits, or at any rate their most socially deleterious manifestations. It's important to understand that the reason we must go to these dark places, such as violent crime, is in the interest of prevention of future crime. In this episode, Dr. Graham Taylor is joined today by Dr. Gary Mercado, clinical psychologist, researcher, and author in the areas of violence, early psychosis, and other serious psychopathology. Gary is also the writer of The New Evil: Understanding the Emergence and Modern Violent Crime co-authored by Dr.Michael Stone. Together Graham and Gary define what evil is, understanding the horror attached to violent acts, and understand the psychological implications of what they're doing, and what's driving it. Gary talks about the development of the 22 Category Scale of Evil that looks at the factors in a person's life as a spectrum to better understand the behavior behind the acts of violence and how this scale is being used in assisting with the capture and prevention of future violent crimes. And finally, they discuss the trends in violent crime and the reasons behind the shift from serial killings to mass murder. The irony is that the individuals that we deal with in our business and personal lives that we most need firm boundaries with are the people who are most likely to completely ignore our boundaries. The majority of the population respond well to boundary clarification and are willing to work towards better more mutually compatible relationship and project outcomes. However, more research is emerging regarding low conscience or character disordered individuals who have made ignoring, violating or avoiding the healthy boundary requests of others an absolute art form. This art form not only requires an ability to violate boundaries and get away with it but also to excel in detection and accountability avoidance. Some of the individuals leading the way in this area of study that I wish to acknowledge are Dr David Scharch, Sandra Brown, Jennifer Young, Robert Hare, George Simon, Kent Kiehl not to mention a host of others.

Clinical Psychologist and sexual predation expert Dr. Anna Salter joins us to explore the psychology of sexual assault from the perspective of both the victims and the perpetrators. What causes somebody become a sex offender? Are they born that way, or are they the products of culture? Do sex offenders share any characteristics that make them stand out from the crowd? How do perpetrators choose their victims? And is there any hope of redemption for these people? From the victims perspective we discuss the women who tend to be most vulnerable to sexual assault, why many women who have been sexually assaulted are reluctant to come forward, the manipulation tactics employed by sex offenders to control their victims perception of the assault, and some of the counterintuitive victim behaviours which often lead to perpetrators walking free. *** BOOKS MENTIONED *** "Predators: Pedophiles, Rapists, and Other Sex Offenders" by Anna Salter https://amzn.to/2HBwg6B "Pilgrim at Tinker Creek" by Annie Dillard https://amzn.to/2HAG40D "Without Conscience" by Robert Hare https://amzn.to/2HDeorE "Betrayal Trauma" by Jennifer Freyd https://amzn.to/2sKqxqb "The Witch-Hunt Narrative" by Ross Cheit https://amzn.to/2JxNEe1 *** DONATE OR SUBSCRIBE *** http://myownworstenemy.org/support *** SOCIAL MEDIA *** Facebook: http://facebook.com/myownworstenemyorg Twitter: http://twitter.com/dannydwhittaker *** CREDITS *** Theme Music: Falling Down by Ryan Little http://youtube.com/user/TheR4C2010 Podcast Image: Luigi Tiriticco https://flic.kr/p/MUsVLN DISCLAIMER: My Own Worst Enemy is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.co.uk and affiliated sites.
Richard Grannon and Angie give their thoughts on why narcissists use flying monkeys for their smear campaigns - plus how you can deal with painful smear campaigns that narcissists use against you to humiliate and further abuse you. What is a flying monkey? It might be a funny comparison, calling them flying monkeys, but the reality of it is anything but funny. A quick and dirty definition of a narcissist's "flying monkey" is a person who does the narcissist's bidding for them. Sometimes, these flying monkeys are unaware of their role in the narcissist's puppet show - you know, the stage they set for their gaslighting manipulation and preferred state of drama. Other times, they're "in on it" with them. The Unwitting Flying Monkey Often, flying monkeys come in the form of well-meaning friends and loved ones. They show up, trying to gently convince you to go along with what the narcissist wants - and it's generally a direct result of their own manipulation by the narc. See, a toxic narcissist will do anything to get or her way, including telling lies about you and/or others in order to make things go their way. If you look up "smear campaign" in the dictionary, you'll find that the political version of the term matches up with the narcissistic one: "a deliberate attack on somebody, by spreading an untrue and unpleasant rumor about them, or by making an accusation intended to damage their reputation." Quite simply, that's what a narcissist does when he feels threatened or otherwise concerned that he might lose his narcissistic supply. And contrary to popular belief, a narcissist who stoops to the level of creating a smear campaign is not crying out for help; rather, s/he's crying out for attention and, in many cases, for a new source of supply. A lot of narcs use sob stories (such as "this person has treated me so poorly, poor me, feel sorry for me) - as part of their love bombing and or hoovering tactics when they're hooking in a new victim (or trying to re-hook you once you manage to get away). Why Narcissists Run 'Smear Campaigns': The Neurological Components As someone who isn't a toxic narcissist, this stuff doesn't make sense to you. You might find yourself feeling shocked or even confused by the smear campaign, because it's not normal behavior. The fact is that unless you're intentionally educating yourself about toxic narcissism and narcissistic personality disorder, you can't really understand the way a narc's mind works. That's because it doesn't work the same way as a "normal" person's mind does. See, most people feel empathy for others in their lives, and they'd never want to hurt someone they love. But narcissists don't really see others as people who are on the same level; to them, to put it bluntly, you are not a person. That's because, according to Robert Hare, PhD, "their information, including emotional information, is scattered all over both brain hemispheres - it takes too long or the brain to retrieve and process information, and the entire process of socialization becomes so ponderous that ultimately, it fails." Living with a narcissist puts you in a tough spot: you sort of forgo the simple pleasures in life. Rather than taking fun strolls down memory lane and laughing together, you'll find yourself feeling like you're literally sleeping with the enemy. It's like the very stuff that makes life worth living becomes forbidden to you - and as you watch those in healthy relationships have normal, healthy interactions with their love ones, the pain can become even more intense. While studying prisoners in 1980, psychologist Dr. Robert Hare developed the Psychopathy Checklist - a list that evaluates people based on twenty basic traits, including lying and lack of remorse. The latest in science, culture, and history from Smithsonian Channel.
To celebrate the FT’s Business Book of the Year Award, our star columnists recommend the top reads to bring solace and advice in turbulent times. Listen to a medical doctor who also specialises in Eastern Medicine & Acupuncture talk about the challenges we face today. Today I learn that doctors are having to deal with many variants of mental disturbances. That the art of listening is extremely important so as to gain trust and be sensitive to the many needs of a society that is becoming increasingly stressful. From empathy, compassion and nurturing, to the challenges of abandonment, abuse and separation, to betrayal, sociopathy and psychopathy. In identifying the darker side of the human character we learn that there is a certain percentage of people who show no signs of connection, compassion or empathy, but instead climb the ladder of the proverbial power structures to embed themselves at the top, or at a critical nodal point or as a gatekeeper. Yet, the challenge for all of us is to become whole - whilst living in a society that has many dysfunctionalities and fragmentations. That people wanting to become more fulfilled, but lack a moral or ethical compass - instead, fill themselves with distractions and indulgences and get caught up - by becoming addicted to so-many fixations and obsessions, in an effort to fill this emptiness and lack of wholeness. However, the only thing that you can really fill this emptiness, is love and joy - that which we cannot hold in our hand, being non material - like creativity, art, music, dance, fun and most of all of connection and warm and heart filled relationships. By being mindful and empathic - it will take us into a realm where healing can take place. In his practice as an MD, self compassionate people come to see him who are struggling with looking after themselves - 'as an act of compassion.’ Many are women which is probably why women suffer from chronic illness the most, because they care too much and become affected too easily. This being due to their sensitivity as their given role has been to nurture others and not necessarily themselves. Robin sees his role is to engender within them - self regard and self compassion - and to validate and empower them. (and there is much more to it, than this). This interview also looks at identifying the darker/shadow side of the human character. Though he does not often come in contact with this, in his own work or in family and community settings. He is however, noticing that patients are coming to him, and though not dark themselves have been affected by the dark side of others, be it in relationships or at work, be it abuse, bullying or more subtle signs of verbal abuse - even silence can be very abusive. Also, some people can suffer early in life from abandonment or abuse and the result is that later in life certain genetic memories can be turned back on and the body, because it is older is less able to cope with it - and can switch on not only emotional conditions like depression and anxiety, but physical conditions as well - this is actually the epi-genetics of illness. Covering abandonment and the feelings of separation - and abuse, plus betrayal - that some young people find that their spirituality was taken away from them as well - their innocence and purity gone and so is their sacred purpose - this is why the wounds and hurt goes so very deep. In Robin’s practice he said it’s most important to really listen - that there is no separation and that connection is imperative. Especially, when dealing with cancer sufferers who are in a terminal situation - leading to the end of their lives. He endeavours to always gather a team around that person, if they don’t already have a team - so that, that patient is then nurtured and feels supported by being part of a community. Also, Robin too can be part of that community and having the next door neighbour being part of it as well. They have to choose to have this close community that may include doctors, specialists and the home helper and the family. Robin sees that abandonment is one of the greatest issues that we face because it creates a feeling that we are separate yet this is a false feeling - a falsity. We function best with more joy - with other people - and with their team around them thaey feel validated and you just love them for who they are. We cover the topic of empathy - with sitting with someone - where you yourself remember in previous times in your own life, when you felt that lonely or alone. When with a patient you don’t straight away try a fix them or come out with a solution - you listen. Robin says there is a lot of talk about energy medicine - and he states that in this case too - being able to listen with an open heart is imperative. As an acupuncturist, Robin is also able to tap in and listen to the many invisible signals that are within our body. That every organ in our anatomy has a different pulse or signature and he can quickly adetermine the health of any one of the particular organs. He does this by feeling the numerous differing pulses on the inside of the patient’s wrist. He can determine their strength and or weaknesses of any particular organ and then by using acupuncture needles he can bring about balance - by opening energy flows throughout the body resulting in integrating them into the wellbeing of the ‘whole body’ - as one, integrated system. Also, that our society suffers in many ways, due to many of its dysfunctionalities and fragmentations - and while we have people wanting to be more whole, often they lack a moral or ethical compass, and instead, fill themselves with distractions and indulgences and get caught up by becoming addicted to so many fixations and obsessions … dope, booze, sugar, and also materialism - all to fill this emptiness and lack of wholeness. And we are encouraged to fill this whole, because we are embedded into a consumer society who wants us and encourages us, to buy stuff and to buy it often. But, not only that, we are filling it with busy-ness - by always being busy .… and not centered. However, the only true thing that you can fill this emptiness with, is with love and joy - that which we cannot hold in our hand, being non material - like creativity, art, music, dance, fun, but especially connection and being supported. (And heaps of hugs help too!) Now all humans have this emptiness as we are born into it and during the course of our existence we fill this with the love of our parents and families and community - and that we embed - usually by osmosis - principles, values, morality, ethics from the family and the community that surrounds us. Many people fill their emptiness with relationships that are not real and not loving and that too has its challenges. That when this subject comes up in a doctor patient scenario they start to cry and touch on this emptiness and sadness and one of the unique things about this outpouring of heartbreak is that the body appreciates this - there is no real damage done to our body - because of this recognition - healing can take place. The next step is to start filling that hole and that self esteem needs to be built up, especially with loving relationships - communing with nature and visiting lovely places. This leads to how they can fill themselves from within, with a reality that can make their life whole and meaningful. Robin mentions that sadness can be passed on over generations - and this is particularly noticed if there has been a lot of generations having gone off to war. Yet, women too have inherited generations of repression and this also needs to be acknowledged and healed. This interview covers many aspects of healing and how we listen is a most important component. We also covers a deeper understanding of narcissism and when it becomes malignant narcissism and the shadow around that subject - that in turn leads to sociopathy and psychopathy and how we are now finally realising what these are and finding them at younger ages so as to engage remedial action before much societal damage occurs. One of the traits of sociopaths and psychopaths is that they lie and then fully believe their own lies. Robin introduces the unique book written by Paul Levy ‘Dispelling Wetiko’ It states: There is a contagious psychospiritual disease of the soul, a parasite of the mind, that is currently being acted out en masse on the world stage via a collective psychosis of titanic proportions. This mind-virus—which Native Americans have called "wetiko"—covertly operates through the unconscious blind spots in the human psyche, rendering people oblivious to their own madness and compelling them to act against their own best interests. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_Mh9jaxmbU That 99% of the human race are salvageable and will see the light, but there is a certain percentage who are unsalvageable - this new knowledge is as a result of more recent data and research. Robert Hare is most probably one of the world’s experts in all things psychopathic having written a book - ‘Snakes in Suits’ and he says that the capacity for corporations with these type of individuals in power to be one psychopathic monster - is huge. https://www.amazon.com/Snakes-Suits-When-Psychopaths-Work/dp/0061147893 Gas lighting comes up too. It’s based around how to manipulate (someone) by psychological means into doubting their own sanity: in the first episode of the movie, Karen Valentine is being gaslighted by her husband - from the storyline of the film Gaslight (1944), in which a man psychologically manipulates his wife into believing that she is going insane. This too is how a psychopath can manipulate people. So we have to identify these traits written above and act - and it is slowly happening. In regard to Corporate Psychopathy they will lie, they will deflect, they will speak over others and they will belittle them - and the need for public education around this is urgent - but we must be very careful as we could very well call out the wrong people - yet Robin states that this is a lesser problem - we just have to become far more aware … Don’t purchase shares in their companies, don’t vote for them … be more conscious of your choices. The more information we have the better the chances of remedial action so as to make a better more caring world for our children and grandchildren. An engaging interview.www.robinkelly.com
Sociopaths, they are everywhere (and not necessarily in jail). Tey are your teachers, CEO's, government officials, your neighbor next door-or even in your family. “They appear to function reasonably well—as lawyers, doctors, psychiatrists, academics, mercenaries, police officers, cult leaders, military personnel, businesspeople, writers, artists, entertainers and so forth—without breaking the law, or at least without being caught and convicted. These individuals are every bit as egocentric, callous and manipulative as the average criminal psychopath; however, their intelligence, family background, social skills and circumstances permit them to construct a façade of normalcy and to get what they want with relative impunity.”DR. Robert Hare. According to DSM-IV, a person can be diagnosed as antisocial if since age 15 he or she has shown a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others. The person must have indicated at least three of the following: Failure to conform to lawful social normsDeceitfulnessImpulsivity or failure to plan aheadIrritability and aggressiveness, as indicted by repeated physical fights or assaultsReckless disregard for safety of self or othersConsistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain consistent work behavior or honor financial obligationsLack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent about having hurt, mistreated or stolen from anotherDonna Anderson, author of Love Fraud and Red Flags of Love Fraud Will be joining us tonite telling us what to look out for.Hosts Doreen Finkle and Rueben Torres
As I frequently tell my audiences, one of the most encouraging findings with respect to workplace bullying is the evidence that establishes the effectiveness of coaching in shifting the behaviour of individuals who routinely engage in disrespectful, power based behaviours. The exception, I point out, would be that small percentage of individuals, 1% within the general population, who can be classified as psychopaths; individuals who are incapable of changing their behaviour because they lack empathy and feel no remorse or guilt, regardless of what they say or do.Until recently, I assumed that we would find that same small percentage reflected in our workplaces. Apparently I was wrong. According to research by Dr. Robert Hare, the Canadian psychologist who co-authored Snakes in Suits: When Psychopaths go to Work, the likelihood of finding a psychopath in your senior leadership team is 4 times higher than within the general population. It seems that contemporary corporate culture, particularly within the financial services industry, provides the ideal environment for psychopaths; excessively narcissistic individuals who mimic rather than feel emotions, who lie, cheat, steal or harm with no feeling of remorse. Psychopaths are manipulative risk takers, knowing when and how to turn on the charm to get what they want, without caring who or what they destroy to get it.The reason there is a much higher likelihood of finding them in the C-Suite is because they are drawn to position and power. They seek out situations that will provide them unfettered access to both. Unfortunately, far too many corporate cultures are structured to ensure their psychopathic desires are fulfilled. They are welcomed into a workplace cleverly disguised as the “turnaround” guy. Charismatic and confident, they boast of moving from one company to another, hired to cut costs, trim the excesses, dispose of waste while getting paid big bucks to do so. The damage and destruction they cause to corporate culture, morale, teamwork, employee health and turnover are rarely reflected in what gets captured in bottom line results.According to British researcher Clive Boddy, author of the book “Corporate Psychopaths: Organizational Destroyers,” the 2007-2008 financial crisis may have resulted in the growing proliferation of psychopathic personalities in the C suite. "Psychopaths are great bullies. They are cunning and manipulative, and great at engineering situations. Although they don't have emotions themselves, they can create emotional situations. The rest of us don't even realize we're being manipulated until it's too late."1Corporate psychopaths never stay in one company long enough to get caught, particularly as no one is really looking to catch them. Their lack of empathy, “tough love” managerial style, and interest in risk taking are often viewed as the kinds of traits that will provide that competitive edge so many of today’s companies are seeking. Typical of those who engage in bullying behaviour, they are able to charm and manipulate those whose support they need, as they steal credit for the accomplishments of others who they coldly blame for any problems or issues that arise during their brief tenure.According to Paul Babiak, a New York industrial psychologist and co-author with Dr. Hare of "Snakes in Suits", todays turbulent and challenging economic reality is creating “golden times for cold, career opportunists like psychopaths.” In addition to the people costs listed above, which he has been documenting for over 16 years, Babiak is concerned about a new danger to companies who allow these individuals to infiltrate their ranks.Corporate crime is on the rise. A November 2011 report by Price, Waterhouse Coopers shows a 13% increase in global economic crime since its 2009 world survey, with an average cost per company of $5 million. And most of the crimes are inside jobs: 56% of companies say the offenders were employees. 2 Here’s See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

But in his day this was an unattainable ideal: what he regarded as the best system in existence produced Karl Marx. In future such failures are not likely to occur where there is dictatorship. Diet, injections, and injunctions will combine, from a very early age, to produce the sort of character and the sort of beliefs that the authorities consider desirable, and any serious criticism of the powers that be will become psychologically impossible.
