Atbalsts kara plosītajai Ukrainai: šobrīd nepieciešamā palīdzība

Kā labāk dzīvot

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 21, 2024 48:34

Jau divus gadus Latvijas iedzīvotāji dažādos veidos turpina atbalstīt kara plosīto Ukrainu un tās iedzīvotājus. Par to, kāda palīdzība šobrīd tiek sniegta Ukrainai, interesējamies raidījumā Kā labāk dzīvot.

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 10, 2023 17:55

Quinoa's new status as a superfood has altered the economic fortunes of Quechua farmers in the Andean highlands. Linda J. Seligmann journeys to the Huanoquite region of Peru to track the mixed blessings brought about by the surging worldwide popularity of this "exquisite grain." Focusing on how Indigenous communities have confronted globalization, Seligmann examines the influence of food politics, development initiatives, and the region's agrarian history on present-day quinoa production among Huanoquiteños. She also looks at the human stories behind these transformations, from the work of quinoa brokers to the ways Huanoquite's men and women navigate the shifts in place and power occurring in their homes and communities. Finally, Seligmann considers how the consequences of nearby mining may impact Huanoquiteños' ability to farm quinoa and thrive in their environment, and the efforts they are taking to resist these threats to their way of life.  The untold story behind the popular health food, Quinoa: Food Politics and Agrarian Life in the Andean Highlands (U Illinois Press, 2022) illuminates how Indigenous communities have engaged with the politics and policies surrounding their production of a traditional and minor crop that became a global foodstuff.

Daudziem noder mentora padoms no vietējiem.

In this world of mokuhanga, there are artists whose passion and dedication to the art form comes not only from their work, but from how they see the medium itself. Linda J Beeman is a Michigan based mokuhanga printmaker who desires to explore nature, its conservation, its power through colour, its meaning, and aesthetic. Linda's work takes the viewer to an existing place, which when allowed in, soothes and calms, enveloped by the sacred. On this episode of The Unfinished Print I speak with Linda J. Beeman about her world, natural and artistic, how she got involved with mokuhanga, how she views her audience, her style. We discuss her time at MI Lab, and her love of artist-in-residence programs in the United States. Focusing on the foreign demand for “traditional” Japanese imagery and motifs such as castles, bridges, famous landscapes, bamboo forests, to name just a few.  Shin hanga was born in 1915 by Watanabe Shōzaburō (1885-1962) when he found Austrian artist Frtiz Capelari (1884-1950) and commissioned Capelari to design some prints for Watanabe's feldgling printing house . From there shin-hanga evolved into its own distinct “new” style of Japanese woodblock printing. It lasted as this distinct style until its innevitable decline after the Second World War (1939-1945).   sōsaku-hanga - or creative prints, is a style of printmaking which is predominantly, although not exclusively, prints made by one person. It started in the early twentieth century in Japan, in the same period as the shin-hanga movement. The artist designs, carves, and prints their own works. The designs, especially in the early days, may seem rudimentary but the creation of self made prints was a breakthrough for printmakers beginning to move away from where only a select group of carvers, printers and publishers created woodblock prints.    Watanabe Shōzaburō [渡辺 庄三郎] (1885-1962) - was the catalyst of the new print movement (shin-hanga) in the Japan of the early 20th Century. He assembled printers, designers, and carvers to re-create the now dead,  ukiyo-e style, of woodblock prints in Japan. Watanabe also welcomed "foreign" artists to design prints, such as Charles Bartlett (1860-1940). His relationship with many of Japan's future woodblock stars, such as Yoshida Hiroshi (1876-1950), and Hasui Kawase (1883-1957) established a mokuhanga style that has been emulated ever since.   Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park - found in Ontanagan, Michigan, USA. "Labo darbu nedēļā" šogad īpaša vērība pievērsta ukraiņu iesaistei aktivitātēs

Kā labāk dzīvot

No 3. līdz 9.oktobrim norisinās akcija "Labo darbu nedēļa". To 14. gadu pēc kārtas rīko labdarības organizācija "Palīdzēsim.lv". Linda Jämsén is an American expat living in Finland. She recently self-published her first book, Odyssey of Love: A Memoir of Seeking and Finding, a romantic, travel, and music-filled adventure of her three years working and singing in Budapest. A classically-trained pianist, she is also a choral singer and has performed in Israel, the UK, Hungary, and Finland. She lives on an island in Helsinki with her husband. In today's episode Linda shares a heartfelt story called "The Joy of Giving”, of how the donation of her childhood violin to a Middle Eastern refugee musician in Finland created ripples of joy for all involved. After hearing "Joy to the World" during Christmastime, this memory came to the forefront, and it's a beautiful reminder of the joy of connecting with others, and that our contributions to others have the ability to make a difference. We live in a society that is extremely diverse, and we must find ways to treat each other with love and respect despite our differences. Little Miss Linda is a dark-skinned girl who has been treated cruelly because of the color of her skin. Her father is in the military, so she has had the privilege of living in various places around the world including Japan, Korea, Philippines, Alaska, and Germany. Often, she and her siblings would be the only African American children in their classes. Little Miss Linda was full of excitement when her father told the family he was retiring and moving to Mississippi. She thought that the mean words about her dark skin would stop. She imagined her family would be surrounded by people who were like her, but to her surprise, she continued to be teased and taunted about the complexion of her skin. Linda J. M. Holloway's Little Miss Linda Speaks Out About Diversity (2021) illustrates how Little Miss Linda was able to turn a negative situation into a positive one. She did this through teaching her class, school, and community the power of appreciating and celebrating people regardless of their skin color. The power and effectiveness of Little Miss Linda's diversity story is made practical by the “Skittles Story.” Yes, if only Skittles could talk right? They do in this book! Through this elementary story all children can relate to the simple truth that people are more alike than they are different and diversity is to be celebrated. Learn more about your ad choices. In this fascinating episode of Coaching Uncaged, Animas Centre Director Robert Stephenson is joined by educational innovator, psychotherapist, coach, author and Founder of the Adler Graduate Professional School, Linda J. Page. Robert and Linda delve into Adlerian Psychology, a psychotherapy approach based upon the work of pioneer Alfred Adler. They explore what it is, some of the historical background of the work, as well as some of the many crossovers that Adlerian psychology has with coaching - including being a systemic approach, as opposed to a mechanistic one, that looks at the relationships between things, not just the things themselves. Linda shares the background that piqued her interest in Adlerian psychology, and the journey that led to her founding of the Adler Graduate Professional School in Ontario, Canada. Linda touches on the idea of what Adler called ‘social interest', and the notion of believing in yourself and others as the key to health and wellbeing, drawing similarities to the practice of coaching. Robert and Linda also explore the notion of working on the self as a coach, the benefits of reflection for both coach and client, as well as the importance of cultivating what she terms ‘appreciative curiosity' when working with new clients. Touching on buddhism, diversity and inclusion as well as the politicalness of coaching, Linda shares case studies, historical references, personal anecdotes and even a short poem in this deeply interesting conversation that explores the similarities and crossovers between Adlerian Psychology and coaching.
