Look, we are going to level with you here. . Road Rash for the 3DO is peak '90s. Motorcycle street racing with weapons is radical enough. But pair it with FMV cutscenes, chain wallets, and Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage" blaring in the background and it may just be the apex of 90's attitude. So come along for the ride with the LJN crew to see what they think about this EA classic.

This week's guest is Adolfo Torres. Adolfo's musical journey started in Cali, Colombia, and from a young age, his passion for music was evident, leading his parents to enroll him in drum lessons. This early start paved the way for his education at the Drummers Collective in NYC and later at Berklee College of Music on an American Tour Scholarship. After his studies, Adolfo moved to Austin, TX, playing with artists like JT Coldfire and Jennifer B and the Groove Kings, where he learned about the life of a working musician. In 2013, he returned to Colombia, forming the band M.I.J.O, which blends Classic, Modern, and Progressive Rock. All that being said, I've been a big fan of his for a long time and go check out a few of his videos before you listen to our chat. It will set the stage for a lot of what we talk about. I hope you enjoy the five records that shaped Adolfo Torres into the musician he is today. Cheers! Teenagers gather at the home of a friend whose parents are out of town, for what they've been told at school all week will be the party to end all parties. But because they're teenagers, everything is boring—especially this party that only a handful of people have shown up for. After a few beers, someone suggests, “Hey, let's go out to Bloods Point!” *** He was alone at home when firemen were called. The entire house was blazing... except for one room. After hair metal all but destroyed heavy metal in the late 80's and early 90's, things were a bit grim. Grim in the same sort of way that Birmingham, England was grim in the late 60's. Perhaps one of the silver linings to emerge out of the make-up and hairspray laden aftermath of glam was the down to earth, retro metal infused sounds emerging out of the Pacific Northwest region of the United States, specifically, the “Seattle scene” which brought us an entirely new genre of metal (aka “grunge”) that served as a desperately needed palette cleanser and helped to breathe new life into the dystopian landscape which had become the world of metal.   Enter Seattle, Washington's SOUNDGARDEN, a staple of the Seattle “grunge” scene of the early 1990's that combined the best elements of classic Zeppelin and Sabbath built on a foundation of unpredictable & untraditional riffs chock full of heavy alternate tunings, ugly chords, and screaming vocals, conjuring a heavy 70's infused sound which is both simultaneously retro and brutally modern.  It's time to saddle up your “goat camel” and call the “dingo hunter” to learn more about the rich culture of “The Belgish” that goes far beyond “waffles and white beers”. Find out what used to put the “high” in high school, get ready for some “karaoke reflections” (including the best Creed impression ever) and JOIN US as we go INSIDE THE METAL with Seattle's alternative metal mavericks, SOUNDGARDEN   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Help Support Metal Nerdery https://www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182   Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merch and kindly leave us a review and/or rating on the iTunes/Apple Podcasts - Spotify or your favorite Podcast app Listen on iTunes, Spotify, Podbean, Google Podcasts or wherever you get your Podcasts. IN THIS EPISODE: Did a vampire stalk London's Highgate cemetery in the 1970s? (Highgate Vampire: The Horror of the Dead) *** He was alone at home when firemen were called. The entire house was blazing... except for one room. The room that contained the corpse of J. Temple Thurston. (The Mysterious Death of J. Temple Thurston) *** A ghostly spirit brings comfort to a dying man's grandchild. (A Comforting Nurse) *** Death comes to us all, but today children are shielded from the reality of death – only the stylized version they see in television and film. And some people coped with their grief by being artistic – such as writing a weird song called “The Hearse Song”. *** We all know people who love nature and the outdoors. Some will even have their own gardens and will talk to the flowers and plants, thinking it will help them thrive. But how would you react when you are sure the plants are talking back to you? Lots of dead bodies show up in this episode. Be prepared to cover your eyes while listening, unless you're driving or operating heavy machinery while listening. If that's the case, you should probably keep your eyes open. The episode begins with the corpses of three executed anarchists in iron cages. After that, a pile of plagued cadavers are catapulted over city walls. Then, we talk to a cold-case homicide detective. Here's the topic that your intrepid cohosts tackle with world-renowned cold-case homicide detective J. Warner Wallace: What if all the Bibles in the world suddenly went missing at the same time? We're not just talking about that one time when you left your favorite copy of the Holy Scriptures on top of the car. What we're considering is what we could know about God if every single copy of the Bible went fluttering away, never to be seen again. If that happened, surely all of our knowledge about Jesus would be gone as well, right? Not so fast, says J. Warner Wallace According to Detective Wallace, the impact of Jesus on the world has been so great that, even without any Bibles, we could still reconstruct enough truth to know Jesus and to follow him. And that's what he discusses with Timothy Paul Jones on this episode—but that's not all that they talk about. Every episode of The Apologetics Podcast is contractually required to include some serious rock and roll, and this episode is no exception! Timothy is thrilled beyond words as Detective Wallace reaffirms his love for the guitar wizardry of Neal Schon of Journey and geeks out on some of his favorite guitars. And what happens in the moment of madness known as “Indiana, Jones, and the Raiders of Church History”? Well, this is where a lot of the dead bodies show up. This time around, Garrick and Timothy descend into the depths of the macabre as they pit iron cages against the bubonic plague with devastating results. Also, “Bübönïc” would be an amazing name for a heavy metal band. Before it's over, Timothy hurls a plagued corpse at Garrick, and Garrick is forced to reveal the never-before-considered-and-probably-totally-wrong hidden meaning behind the Soundgarden song “Rusty Cage,” which turns out to have something to do with the execution of Anabaptist anarchists in Muenster. And, by “Muenster,” we mean the city, not the cheese.   ABOUT YOUR GUEST AND HOSTS J. Warner Wallace is a cold-case homicide detective, popular national speaker, and best-selling author. That's right, the philosophy of art debate between Rusty and a guy who called Rusty a hypocrite in a YouTube video. The boxing match should be uploaded next week if Emperor Lemon picks it up from Rusty's Post Office box in Gainesville since Rusty is out of town for a Blacks For Trump convention in Miami, and Emp promised he would get it from the Post Office box this week, but he hasn't even gone to Rusty's house to pick up the Post Office box key yet, and also he said something about binge watching every 1989 Nascar race, so that might eat up his attention for awhile. Today we are headed back to the 1990's. This would fit in with my favorite genre of music and one of the voices that would be a star of this era...Chris Cornell and Soundgarden. The song is called Rusty Cage from the 1991 release of BadMotorFinger. This is a song that I believe has some great spiritual connotations that are inferred and I don't think were intended by the Chris when he wrote it all down. What is your interpretation of the song? Lyric Video Johnny Cash: https://youtu.be/S3krXGaOeaULyric Video Soundgarden: https://youtu.be/k6-pqF3J7Jw The music on the podcast is from John Nugent. John is a Chicagoland area musician who has been a real blessing to Tabor Church. Support the show (http://taborchicago.org/give/)

Artists released important albums weekly that would shape the decade (and even entire careers) such as Pearl Jam, U2, Soundgarden, Gun 'n Roses, Smashing Pumpkins, R.E.M., Red Hot Chili Peppers, Primal Scream, Blur, Metallica, and more. Then there were the underground bands that lurked on college radio and outside the Billboard charts like Slint, My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Mr. Bungle, Fugazi, Ride, Uncle Tupelo, Mudhoney, and Throwing Muses. It's the debut of Lollapalooza, the year trip-hop and desert / stoner rock would begin their ascension, the year Freddie Mercury released one last album with Queen before his passing, and the year "grunge" became a word everyone knew. Welcome back, Helsingers. This week's episode does a lot of work filling in the rest of Sam's backstory and how he became our favorite psychopathic vampire. This episode serves up flashback aplenty exploring Sam's time at that juvenile detention facility that we saw him hunting at last season. We also see the return of one of his victims, Felix. Poor, poor Felix. The kid was never quite right after his encounter with the vampire, but Sam felt the partner that fit him just right for his mission from the Oracle. Hit Play and listen in as Brad and Cort discuss Ep 3x04, "Rusty Cage". Ivory and Scab have gone next level now that they're daywalkers and can heal from their injuries. How trippy what it when Ivory went all badass on Scar and his minions, only to have them return in epic fashion? What happens to Mohamad now that Sam has chosen another to help him terrify the apocalyptic world? If you were in the vampire apocalypse and had no television, what television show would become a part of your oral tradition? Give us a listen and then be sure to drop a comment or in our Facebook group with your thoughts on Ep 3x04, "Rusty Cage". You can also send us an email at bradandcorttalk@gmail.com.

We talk about how the album's ongoing influence on Josh's guitar playing, how he was converted to Soundgarden from Guns n Roses, whether rock stars are deliberately trying to look like Jesus and why, Johnny Cash's cover version of ‘Rusty Cage', how Soundgarden's level of craft was a rejection of alt-rock stereotypes, Guns n Roses history of terrible drummers and how your attitude to rock music changes as you age. My Favorite Album is a podcast unpacking the great works of pop music. Each episode features a different songwriter or musician discussing their favorite album of all time - their history with it, the making of the album, individual songs and the album's influence on their own music.Jeremy Dylan is a filmmaker, journalist and photographer from Sydney, Australia who has worked in the music industry since 2007.
