Rich Nelson and Catrin Lowe (Don't You Want Me? podcast) return to Flixwatcher to review Catrin's choice Oasis: Supersonic. Oasis: Supersonic (2016) is a documentary charting the almost overnight success of Oasis in the mid 1990s. Directed by Mat (Spike Island) Whitecross it stars the brothers Gallagher, Noel and Liam respectively as they reflect on their ascent to mega stardom and record breaking double gigs at Knebworth in 1996. In classic documentary style we start with the Gallagher's growing up in Manchester and hear from Peggy Gallagher. We follow their quick rise to fame and the release of Definitely Maybe and hear their tales of rock n roll debauchery. Recommendability scores for Oasis: Supersonic were pretty high, its mix of 1990s nostalgia and the hilarious Gallagher's make it an easy watch even for a casual Oasis fan. In 2016, the Academy Award winning producers of Amy (a previous A24 film about Amy Winehouse) focused their filmmaking prowess on the 90s Britpop band Oasis. Many know Oasis from hits such as Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, and Champagne Supernova. Others also know them as a dysfunctional band who couldn't make their way out of the tabloids due to feuds between brother's Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher. This documentary focuses on the formation of Oasis and their meteoric rise to stardom. Just as the Amy Winehouse documentary did: this film puts you in the time and place of the band by mostly using found footage, while the interviewees never appear on screen. When Chris Martin and Coldplay are your college roommates, you must have a charmed life and for director Mat Whitecross I'd say that's the case. After his award winning doc The Road to Guantanamo which put him on the map, Whitecross has never looked back. After knocking out the rock doc genre with the brilliant Oasis: Supersonic and a doc about his old buddies Coldplay, Whitecross turned his attention to a golden era in Boxing with the film titled “The Kings” for Showtime, a 4 hour masterpiece which we discuss in detail today…. As the son of political refugees Matt explains why it was important to him to blend the parallel stories of the 4 Kings of Boxing with the political leaders of that time.  We discuss in detail the benefits of audio interviews vs on camera interviews and he walks us through the process he underwent in attempting to shine a bright new light on the often overlooked boxing era squeezed in between Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson.   Mats unique style and perspective is ever present in the film and throughout our entire conversation in this episode of Beyond the Lens presented by Diesel Films.

We’ve got movies coming out the wazoo this week! First, Dave and Kris tackle the ambitious Harry Potter prequel FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM (at 4:00), which tries to cram five movies into one. Much to their annoyance, only three of those five movies are good. Next, Dave explores NOCTURNAL ANIMALS (at 24:56), writer/director/fashion designer Tom Ford’s sophomore film. It has two stories about toxic masculinity that don’t add up to a whole movie, so during the review Kris develops a new segment called “Dr. Kris, Medicine Man,” where he shares how he’d fix the film. Following that segment, Dave offers his brief thoughts on the music documentaries OASIS: SUPERSONIC and RUSH: TIME STAND STILL, which only seem to be for diehard fans. Evan bats cleanup with three more movies from the Boston Jewish Film Festival (at 51:00): the mediocre crime thriller GRAIN OF TRUTH, the emotionally compelling documentary FREEDOM TO MARRY, and the thought-provoking comedy doc THE LAST LAUGH.

Emitido el 26/02/2015 en www.radioutopia.es Con la ayuda de Ernesto (colaborador habitual del programa cuando aparecen los hermanos Gallagher) repasamos el segundo Lp en la carrera en solitario de Noel Gallagher y para ello regresamos a los 90 y escuchamos el primer single de Oasis "Supersonic" editado el 11 de Abril de 1994, donde ya podíamos encontrar una composición cantada por Noel bajo el título de "Take Me Away". Escuchamos la última canción que Oasis interpretó como banda en el V Festival el 22 de Agosto de 2009 y tras la bronca donde una guitarra de Noel salió volando por los aires saltamos al 17 de Octubre de 2011 donde por primera vez escuchábamos el término "High Flying Birds". Tras hacer una escala en su primer trabajo escuchamos canción por canción "Chasing Yerterday" y nos dejamos seducir por canciones escritas en 1993 como "Lock all the doors", hermosos medios tiempos con dedicatoria "The girl with the X-ray eyes" o material extra como "Leave my guitar alone", un mensaje directo a su hermano Liam.
