This week, it's trouble in paradise as we conclude the Before trilogy and keep it on brand with a big blow-up argument. Yes, February Is For Lovers continues with 2013's Before Midnight, once again directed by Richard Linklater, starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, and written by all three. This final chapter keeps you guessing throughout on exactly what kind of movie it's going to be, and is of course lifted once more by two outstanding lead performances. It even earned Oscar gold for Linklater, Hawke and Delpy, who took home the Best Adapted Screenplay award in 2014. If you'd like to watch the film before listening along to our discussion, it is currently streaming in Canada on Amazon Prime, Tubi and the CTV app at the time of publication. Other works discussed in this episode include Fantastic 4, Dune: Part One, Anyone But You, Reality, Madame Web, Torque, Morbius, Kraven The Hunter, Venom, You Hurt My Feelings, The Last Duel, Nuff Said, Blow Out, and LOST. We'll be back next week to wrap up February Is For Lovers with our next canon consideration, a modern rom-com favourite that puts a new twist on the old When Harry Met Sally... formula: 2015's Sleeping With Other People, written and directed by Leslye Headland. It is currently streaming in Canada on Amazon Prime, Tubi and Plex. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

This week, we continue to stroll through Europe as we're joined by traffic anchor, physical media archivist and Vancouver film criticism scion Marc Staehling for an unseen entry from his collection: 2004's Before Sunset, directed by Richard Linklater, starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, from a script by Linklater, Hawke and Delpy. Like the 1995 film it follows, the whole appeal is a stripped-down, naturalistic approach to onscreen romance, as Jesse and Celine reunite 9 years later for a movie that follows their catch-up conversation in real-time. It feels like checking in with old friends again, and we can't wait to see where the trilogy takes us with next week's finale. You can find Marc on air at AM730 Traffic in Vancouver, and online on both Twitter and Letterboxd: @maybe_yes_sir Additional works discussed in this episode include All of Us Strangers, Ran, To Live and Die in L.A., Midnight Run, King of Killers, Blow Out, Dressed to Kill, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Welcome to Mooseport, Dazed and Confused, Waking Life, A Scanner Darkly, Two Days in Paris, Demolition, Hit Man, and The Dark Knight Rises. "Before Midnight" is the third and final installment of the "Before" Trilogy directed by Richard Linklater. We all know his work of "Dazed and Confused", "A Scanner Darkly", "School of Rock" and "Boyhood". His film tackles existentialism between relationships and their own with the characters of Jesse and Céline as they are older and they are parents. I dig the film for it's realism, how deep it goes with the charaters that are tackling the issues that comes with relationships, familes and blended families. This is a film that is important to watch, showing the slice of life that we are not alone with our issues and insecurities. I really appreciate it too because we are able to relate to the film, it crosses all kinds of boundaries.Four out of four tokes.

An American writer and actress best known for originating the story and characters in the "Before Sunrise" trilogy with her writing on Before Sunrise 1995 and Before Sunset 2004 for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and a Writers Guild Award. The trilogy is based on characters she created with Richard Linklater. Before Sunrise is a 1995 romantic drama film directed by Richard Linklater and co-written by Linklater and Kim Krizan. The first installment in the Before trilogy, it follows Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Céline (Julie Delpy) as they meet on a Eurail train and disembark in Vienna to spend the night together.Inspired by personal experiences, Linklater collaborated with Krizan, who previously appeared in his films Slacker (1991) and Dazed and Confused (1993), to develop the screenplay. Casting was extensive; it took nine months for Hawke and Delpy to be cast, with the pair also contributing uncredited rewrites. Principal photography took place entirely in Vienna.Their contrasting ideas and perspectives on life and love are detailed, with Jesse, a romantic disguised as a cynic, and Céline seemingly a romantic. Before Sunrise also explores time and self-discovery.Before Sunrise premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 19, 1995, and was theatrically released eight days later.Krizan currently resides in Los Angeles, where she writes and teaches writing courses, most notably at UCLA. HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! The "Before Trilogy" is considered one of the greatest trilogies of all in filmmaking next to "The Godfather Trilogy". In the selection of the trilogy, brilliantly directed by Richard Linklater based on his own personal experience, I review "Before Sunset". I explain why it's the "perfect film" especially that one could watch for Valentine's Day. Missed connections are a bitch and this film explores that especially how it handles time and space. There's a couple that do this very well and seamlessly and "Before Sunset" does exactly that and much more.

Actress, writer, director Julie Delpy has made a career creating films that are both brutally honest and poignantly hilarious. They can feel, disarming, personal, relatable, and get under your skin in the way that great art should.  In her latest venture, the 12-episode streaming series "On The Verge", Delpy takes on the complex, overlooked demographic of the middle-aged woman. No stones left unturned here: marriage, divorce, motherhood, friendship, career, passion, loss of passion - it's all tackled with authentic transparency and whip-smart humor. Today we chat about why it is so vital that these stories are represented on the small screen, her prolific creative process, her childhood in Paris, what's next for the "Before" trilogy, her passions outside of the business, and what's next on her plate.  If you haven't streamed "On The Verge", it's a must-see - there is nothing like it on TV. Audiences everywhere are crossing their fingers for Season 2 - so please rate, review and share!  *We recorded this episode while doing an IG live and fielding questions from listeners in real-time, which was pretty cool and I think we will do more like this.

In a very bizarre episode, Sam & Indy end up watching all of the Before Trilogy, recording in a hotel room, and telling uncharacteristically personal stories. Romance, flooding, secret movies, and more!   Before Sunrise is a 1995 American romantic drama film directed by Richard Linklater and written by Linklater and Kim Krizan. The film follows Jesse (Ethan Hawke), a young American man, and Céline (Julie Delpy), a young French woman, who meet on a train and disembark in Vienna, where they spend the night walking around the city and getting to know and falling in love with each other. The plot is considered minimalistic, consisting mostly of the characters' conversation as they navigate the city. The two characters' contrasting ideas and perspectives on life and love are detailed. Jesse is a romantic disguised as a cynic, and Céline is seemingly a romantic, albeit with some doubts. Taking place over the course of one night, their limited time together is always on their minds, and leads to each revealing a lot about themselves partly because they both initially believe they will never see each other again. Before Sunset is a 2004 American romantic drama film, the sequel to Before Sunrise (1995). Like its predecessor, the film was directed by Richard Linklater. He shares screenplay credit with actors Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, and with Kim Krizan, the screenwriter for the first film featuring these two characters. The film picks up the story in Before Sunrise of the young American man (Hawke) and French woman (Delpy) who spent a passionate night together in Vienna. Their paths intersect nine years later in Paris, and the film appears to take place in real time as they spend an afternoon together. Before Sunset received broad critical acclaim and has appeared on many publications' lists of the best films of the 2000s. It was nominated for an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. Before Midnight is a 2013 American romantic drama film, the third in a trilogy featuring two characters, following Before Sunrise (1995) and Before Sunset (2004). It was directed by Richard Linklater and stars Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. Co-written by Linklater, Hawke and Delpy, the film picks up the story nine years after the events of Before Sunset; Jesse (Hawke) and Céline (Delpy) are now a couple, and spending a summer vacation in Greece with their children.

Ian and Sujewa conclude their look at Richard Linklater's "Before Trilogy" with a sobering review of Before Midnight. The 2013 drama finds lovers of happenstance Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Céline (Julie Delpy) married with children and trying to salvage their rocky relationship in a Grecian paradise. The guys bring the series full circle, examining the evolution of Linklater's collaborations with Delpy and Hawke; why there aren't more stories like this in mainstream entertainment; and what the future might hold for these enduring, endearing characters. Also, Sujewa updates viewers on his latest film, The Secret Society for Slow Romance, co-starring Alia Lorae (who, unfortunately, was unable to join this conversation).Show Links:Watch the Before Midnight trailer.Watch the Secret Society for Slow Romance teaser trailer.Three Clips from The Secret Society for Slow Romance.Keep up with all of Sujewa's projects. It stars Ethan Hawke, julie Delpy and the city of Vienna. Before Sunrise is also the first film in Linklater's Before Trilogy. We try to answer the question whether this movie has any structure to it, or even a story. We have a difference of opinion regarding the justification of certain scenes as well as whether this film holds ground on its own other than being part of a trilogy.
