Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) is up next in our 'Running Away From The End of Youth' month. May the crisis continue evermore, as we revisit the film that made up most of Sam's dissertation back when she in her early 20s. It's okay though, we have some zombies and Dylan O'Brien to distract us. This film is one we both enjoy, hence the longer episode. It's weird how fun it is to not suffer through films. Who would have thought?Join us next week as we wrap this up with Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018)

The boys are back! (The boys from The Maze Runner series, that is.) Also back for this PMT minisode is host Laura Petro joined by Meggie Gates with a special appearance from Nick Olson for another installment of YA, We Watched It! After reading the entire Maze Runner series for their other podcast and watching the first film, it only makes sense for the team to sit down and dissect the sequel in this franchise (and adaptation of the second book). Will the movie do the book justice? Or will it take some unnecessary liberties that no one saw coming? (hint: it's the latter).
Aw babe, is it hot in here or did you just get dropped off in a deserted wasteland that's 1000 degrees? For our surviving Gladers, it's the latter. After their staged rescue from the Maze, we discover that the boys are a part of a much bigger test to find a cure for a horrible disease that's destroying humanity. The next trial for them is for them to march 100 miles through the Scorch and make it to the "safe haven," which proves to have many more obstacles than they ever could have imagined: we're talking Cranks, disastrous lightning storms, and more! Tune in as Meggie and Laura dissect it all.
We've been walking for hours, when are we going to get out of this tunnel? Did they just say they found a way out? Now we have to go up stairs? I'd rather have my face melted off with burning metal.
Welcome back to Silver Screen and Television Dreams! Isabella and I take a deep dive into the Scorch Trials. Is it a zombie movie? Is it a teen love story? Is it kids trying to beat the man? Plots thicken and so does the suspicion as we finish the second half of The Scorch Trials. In this episode, we discuss the larger ramifications of the trials and the real life impact they will have on these kids. They have to fight their way through the city, through the betrayal trial, and then through some more monsters because these are still horror books, and we couldn't have you forgetting that. Teresa's actions are polarizing, but both hosts agree that the book is a page turner. We simply must keep reading to find out what happens next. Next week we will be reading chapters 1-37 of book 3 in the series, The Death Cure. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/throwback-paperback/support

Another week of the Maze Runner trilogy, and another episode filled with vile disgusting content. The boys of the Glade think they are safe only to be thrown into possibly worse conditions than the maze. We discuss trauma, fear, and the vast potential outcomes that the book provides. In this special episode of "The Movie Score," we do a movie swap: Maribeth reviews a movie from Ben's personal DVD collection, and Ben reviews a movie from Maribeth's. The films? "The Scorch Trials," the heart-stopping, often-terrifying second installment of the "Maze Runner" series, and "Paterson," the quiet story of an equally quiet poet. We hope you enjoy this special episode; we had a lot of fun making it, despite some hilarious technical difficulties. And as always, don't forget to submit your "Guess the Movie Line" answer to themoviescore20@gmail.com!
YA Adaptation Month: Chapter 2 enters weeks 2 with Jeff and Kelly still confused about the purpose of the maze as the "Maze Runner" trilogy continues with "The Scorch Trials".
Two nerds sitting on the couch discuss the second of the Maze Runner movies: The Scorch Trials. We do not recap the first movie, so this is best listened to after our recap of The Maze Runner. The Maze Runner series, both the books and movies, is contemporary with a whole bunch of other teen dystopias, most notably The Hunger Games, and follows a group of teens in a survival situation. As always, there are spoilers for both The Scorch Trials and related media. One small correction: I get Giancarlo Esposito's first name wrong -- sorry -- and incorrectly identify him as being on The Wire. I mixed up my David Simon procedurals set in Baltimore. He's probably more well known for his work on a raft of Spike Lee movies, Breaking Bad, and most recently the Mandalorian.

Magician’s Gambit, Chapter 12 Garion gets a lesson in the balance of universal forces after feeling foolish for flubbing his first act of deliberate magic. Spoiler alert for the very beginning of this episode. This is the second in a series of movies about a group of boys (and one girl) who escaped from a glade to find that they were being imprisoned by a shadowy group due to their immunity to a dangerous virus that is threatening humanity. As they journey away from further captivity, they encounter a bleak landscape known as the Scorch.

Marc and Shane review Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, and let you know if the series continues in a way that proves relevant. The trailer is a curious creature for this one, largely because it doesn't want to give anything away, so knowing if you want in is even trickier than usual. Do you need to check this one out? We'll also answer listener questions, share some of the week's news, and maybe even have time for another installment of Critic Takedown.

Kendyl and Jenn discuss the second book in the Maze Runner series, The Scorch Trials. There’s good. There’s bad. There’s nervousness about the upcoming film. And there’s more advice about […]
SPOILER WARNING: Major Harry Potter, Uglies, Fault in Our Stars, Scorch Trials, Mockingjay, and Allegiant spoilers are discussed during the second half of this episode! The Battle of Hogwarts and the Red Wedding--what do they have in common? DEATH! It's what authors and readers alike dread: character deaths! From the innocent to the deserving, we talk in-depth about some of the worst (and best) character deaths in our favorite YA books! We ask why some of the deaths are more tragic than others and discuss how readers should respond to deaths. And yes, we talk about THAT death from Veronica Roth (all on her birthday, no less!). Also in this episode... Saul attempts to make some jokes and they're really bad. Michael tried to meet Victoria Aveyard but she was too popular for him (or something like that). We talk about those crazy lizard mutts in 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2' trailer The 'Ready Player One' movie has a release date and Saul shares his thoughts on the book. Everyone's waiting on Sony to begin promotion of 'The 5th Wave' movie. We talk about when we think 'The 5th Wave' movie trailer might be released. There's a song about Dobby. We read some of the feedback we got on Twitter about character deaths! SPOILER WARNING: Some Go Set a Watchman, Scorch Trials, and Mockingjay book details are discussed in this episode! We're back and more excited than ever! With all of the recent buzz surrounding Comic-Con, we sit down and talk about the newest development in The Maze Runner and Mockingjay worlds! While none of us were present for Comic-Con, we couldn't help but feel the hype surrounding our favorite book-to-film adaptations. From the awesome new posters to the brand new trailers that were screened at the convention, we're getting more and more eager to see these movies! (Note: This episode was recorded before the actual release of the Mockingjay and Scorch Trials trailers, which are out now.) Also in this episode... 7th Page is now Bookstacked! We discuss the reasons behind the name change and what we hope it'll do for the site in the future. Harper Lee's Go Set a Watchman came out. It was met with both excitement and controversy. Michael has read Go Set a Watchman. He tells us what he thought about the book and he criticism it's received. The first 30 minutes of 'The Scorch Trials' movie was shown at Comic-Con. There will apparently be changes between the book and the movie. Rebeca and Saul are excited to see the cranks in 'The Scorch Trials' movie! The new Mockingjay posters look cheesy and cool... but we want our own versions featuring ourselves. Michael has internet problems. This was recorded on May 20th so I'm referring to the 15th and 17th for 1D and the BBMAs.
SPOILER WARNING: Mortal Instruments and Allegiant spoilers are briefly discussed in this episode. Listen at your own risk! Shadowhunters fans are abuzz with the latest casting announcements of The Mortal Instruments television show! In our fourth episode, we talk about the hype surrounding the show and our thoughts and feelings about each cast member (this was recorded before the actress for Jocelyn was announced). We also go into the controversy surrounding some of the casting choices and talk about the diversity crisis seen in YA books. Also in this episode... Addie attended YALLWEST and tells us whether or not Veronica Roth had You-Know-Who's (not Voldy's) death planned from the beginning. J.K. Rowling is apologizing for the deaths she forced us to endure in the Harry Potter books... It might take her a while (but not as long as George R.R. Martin). Promotion is underway for the Scorch Trials movie! Eoin Colfer says that the Artemis Fowl movie is almost good to go. We're hoping this is true. The Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices series got new book covers! Do we like them? And just why do publishers always republish their books with new covers anyway? We want Scabbers to play Simon in the first season of Shadowhunters! Emeraude Toubia is perfect as Isabelle because of her hair. It's all in the conditioner. Luke is on a horse. We play a round of "Who Said It: Dumbledore or Gandalf?" and Ariana drops a bomb shell on us. 7th Page features writer Michael also shows up on the panel! It's a packed episode filled with all sorts of good stuff! If you're following the Shadowhunters updates then you're definitely going to want to listen to this episode.
