Multiple 911 calls reported Theodore's actions. Smyrna Police requested assistance from Cobb County Police to meet Theodore at an intersection, but he repeatedly refused to drop his gun and pointed it at officers. As he advanced towards the officers with the firearm raised, they shot him. Theodore was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is investigating the incident, with the case file to be reviewed by the Cobb Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office. STORY 2: Georgia Council on Literacy Upholds Marietta as State ModelThe Georgia Council on Literacy, a 30-member panel created by the General Assembly to improve literacy in Georgia, is determined to address the state's low literacy rate despite discouraging statistics. Around 56% of Georgia's third graders struggle with proficient reading. Marietta City School District was highlighted as a model for success, implementing the science of reading in its curriculum and investing in teachers and students. The district offers after-school tutoring for students who scored below grade level on standardized tests, hired more reading specialists, and partnered with the Atlanta Speech School for literacy improvement. The council emphasizes early childhood education and the science of reading to close the literacy gap and prepare students for future success. STORY 3: Acworth Man Gets 20 Years for Producing Child PornA 32-year-old Acworth man was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to producing child pornography. Billy Calhoun convinced multiple minor girls he met online to send him sexually explicit videos and images by pretending he was a teenage boy. Law enforcement became aware of Calhoun's activities after a local middle school reported the exploitation of one of its students. Investigators discovered that Calhoun had received explicit content from multiple minor girls and found hundreds of other child pornography images and videos. In addition to his prison sentence, Calhoun will have to register as a sex offender. This is normally where the writing staff tries to be cute and make some sort of weird pop culture reference that vaguely ties into the weekly subject for that podcast episode, but this week, honestly … the writing staff doesn't know enough about Enneagrams to be able to do the usual spiel and spent thirty minutes kicking around ideas about telegrams, Bananagrams, Teddy Grahams … clearly, wouldn't have been worthy of introducing a truly noteworthy episode of the Overlap Podcast. This week, our boys Sid and Keith are joined by Enneagram Expert Kerry Flowers to learn how to utilize your inherent Enneagram power in order to bolster your business and enliven your leadership skills. Again, no jokes to be made here - this episode is one that really should be a standout one that you'll probably return to again and again. Welcome to the Children's Book Podcast. I'm Matthew.   And, in lieu of a new episode today, I am pulling off to a rest stop.   When I was a kid, my parents took us on lots and lots of road trips. My younger brother, baby sister, and I would pile into the family station wagon, hitch the pop-up camper, and away we went.    Disney World. Niagara Falls. Kittyhawk. Williamsburg. Dearborn. Sandusky. Rehoboth.    We would drive and drive and drive from our home in central Pennsylvania, and, without fail, one of us kids would drink too much Hawaiian Punch and need to pull over. And because we were often traveling on highways, the easiest place to stop was at a rest stop. My mom would task one of us with carrying the cooler to a nearby picnic bench and we'd fill our tummies with lunch meat sandwiches, sliced apples, and Teddy Grahams. After an impromptu game of tag or frisbee or Disney Yahtzee, we'd visit the restroom one more time, and then pile back into the car for another several hours down the highway.   It is an absolute joy for me to serve as your kidlit librarian podcaster, but I find myself in need of pulling over to a rest stop so that I can stretch my legs, regain my energy, take care of some things that need my attention, and then return rested and ready.   This will mean no new episodes for now. I've got lots and lots of great interviews recorded, but you'll just hear them a few weeks later than originally planned.    In the meantime, I hope you're taking care of yourself, too.   The school year is winding down. You and your family are transitioning into summer. And maybe you even have a few changes or happenings on the horizon that you're thinking about.    I'm rooting for you. Get to know Teddy Grahams Whether his songs are made for himself or others, nearly everything released by Teddy Graham's is made for dancing or romance. Drawing on rap, rnb, Afro beats & more. The New York born, African Rooted Artist, born Brandon Graham, Began his career as an Audio Engineer in Soundview Projects in the Bronx, New York City, Growing a passion for music at 14. Teddy began studying, Audio and Music Theory at a local studio for Bronx Artist. Later, he got his stage name from a child hood girlfriend claiming his chivalrous actions made him a sweet person & reminded her of the Nabisco cookies“Teddy Grahams”. In 2008, Teddy released his first single, "Shorty Gotta Cake" on MySpace. The song quickly became viral, generating over three million views worldwide with over 200 “twerk” videos on YouTube. In the Summer of 2010, Teddy inked a distributed deal with Jay Stuart Productions & Island Def Jam Records. Do we have WRITTEN and EASILY AVAILABLE packages, rate sheets, or an estimating tool?     If you answered a sheepish, “Not really”, to any of these three questions then you’re missing the one thing every company needs in place for sales to be consistently strong:    A Clearly Defined Ask ™    Your ask might be simple. For example, a yoga studio could offer a class pack or a sample week.   Or, your CDA could be complex like mine. Those who sell high-ticket or long commitment products and services typically have more complex asks. For example, real estate agents and financial advisors might make five to fifty small asks before gaining the business.   Whether your CDA (Clearly Defined Ask ™ ) is a one-time simple ask or more complex, it must be well-defined and clear to everyone around you in order for your sales to be consistent and repeatable.   You might be able to sell someone with an unclear ask, but no one around you will be able to do it successfully. And, your time is limited. If you’re relying on your ability to speak to someone to make a sale, you’re in for trouble.   Next week, I’m going to share the steps to figuring out your potential customers’ buyer’s journey with you. The first step on this journey is figuring out your company’s most critical Clearly Defined Ask ™ .   The other day I was talking to a friend about how much the Harry Potter books matter to me. I literally grew up with those books. The first one came out when I was in 6th grade. At 21, I stood in line at midnight, hugely pregnant with my first child, to buy the final book. For right around a decade, through all my pre-teen and teenage development, Harry, Hermoine, and Ron were growing up right alongside me.   J.K. Rowling took me (and most of my generation) on a journey like no other. Every adventure, obstacle, and milestone meant something to us on a level far deeper than any other of the 1500+ of books I’ve read in my life.   Novelists know the power of taking your reader on an emotionally-charged journey.   Great marketers know it too.    In fact, I bet you’re in the middle of a buyer’s journey with one of your favorite brands right now and don’t even know it.  When we’re on a grand adventure with a brand, we don’t know we’re being sold anything. If you’ve ever been to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios, you’ve seen this in action. This elaborate and magical place is perhaps the greatest immersive sales experience ever created. When you spend time in Diagon Alley, every step is brimming with both magic and places to swipe your credit card. The magic of a journey through Harry Potter’s world is only possible with intense planning. Every step of your walk through that corner of the park is carefully planned out, curated, and continuously polished for your pleasure. An experience that feels like memorable magic to the customer may happen once by accident. But, repeating it thousands of times over only happens with careful planning.  Last week we talked about figuring out your CDA, the Clearly Defined Ask ™, that makes it clear what you are selling. The next step is to sit down and document how you walk beside your potential buyer as they move towards that ask. Documenting your primary persona’s buyer’s journey is critical to making good marketing decisions. You will never have consistency in your lead generation until the stops, obstacles, and adventures on this path are clearly understood. The buyer’s journey is the foundational piece of every company’s marketing system.
