Alice also discusses downtime between projects, how directors should approach actors, and why a good script is important. And because we didn't have that much time to talk to Alice, Dom and Giles Alderson sat down together after the interview for a relaxed chat about the ups and downs of today's filmmaking world. Two lovely conversations in one bonus episode! You don't want to miss this. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy this week's episode with Alice Eve. E110 - Easter afternoon we took the podcast for a walk on the dog trail. Are you into Jesus?! We talk traditions in our house, and the hunt for the golden egg brings up the trophy-for-all discussion. Hear Juls' hot take on overconfident kids and practical parenting. We're interrupted by dog fight drama, but Weens quickly channels her Cesar Milan-style advice. We discuss the changing dynamic of our sisterhood and how the little sis is now teaching the big sis. This ties into Joelle's new favorite idea: The Feck It Fifties complete with a Feckit List, because life is short, who cares what people think, and family is important! In an Ishtar segue, we talk about songwriter, actor, Grammy winner Paul Williams and what happened when Mom and Julianne stayed at his house! We get into Weens' sociology and psychology studies and learn about microaggressions, schemas, and body language to quickly size a person up. Hot example is Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin's paparazzi scuffle back in the day, so of course Joelle paid attention! This also reminds us of the 4-part Showtime series "Love Fraud" about a real hunt for a dirt bag narcissist. Talk about microaggressions! Enjoy an awkward double hello with neighbors in a very "Curb Your Enthusiasm" tinkle moment, and be sure to follow and subscribe everywhere you can find our podcast! This week we are joined by the team behind brilliant indie film Lancaster Skies. Giles Alderson (The Dare, World of Darkness) sits down with director Callum Burn, Producer Andy Burn, Cinematographer Sam Parsons and actor Kris Saddler to chat how they made their World War II epic We talk about their backgrounds, how they became filmmakers and their journey to Lancaster Skies We chat how what it is like working with your father and son on indie films. How Callum, Andy and Sam wrote the script together We ask Andy what makes a good producer and why they shot Lancaster skies in 5 blocks and all for only £80k. How they built miniatures and the the inside of a spitfire to create the look they wanted . How when they had problems the answers were always 'make it simple'. And if you build your own sets and make your own world you have so much more control and can save money. We talk to Sam about having very little money for lights. And how to use the budget in the best way you can to light the scene. We chat how they raised the investment money to make the film through any which way they could. How the budget limited then but also made them think out of the box. How it is important that all filmmakers have to step up to be a film business and make the film to sell and how you can actually make money . We chat with Kris about his acting thoughts and how It took four years to make the film and over that time they built up the fan base on social media and held open days to bring people into and believing in the project And we find out that Callum has to redo all the sound with ADR and did the sound Foley in his bedroom which as you can imagine took forever Lancaster Skies trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=4&v=VmMqZdO4ugw WATCH full movie of Lancaster Skies here https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/video/detail/B07R878Y3S/ Follow the team on twitter @LancasterSkies here: http://www.twitter.com/lancasterskies LINKS MAKE YOUR FILM returns with hosts Giles Alderson and Dom Lenoir for a fourth installment after three incredible past events. This week we chat to screenwriter and director Nicole Albarelli who's film To Dream is released today 18th December, about how she made the film in six days, Making a short film first but loosing her cinematographer and 1stAD the day before shooting and bringing in our host and DoP Andrew Rodger at the last minute. How she turned her 60 minutes short into a feature. Going to festivals, winning awards and then getting picked up by a distributor in Texas who wanted to release the film as a feature so they shot an extra day. Meaning they had made a feature film in 7 days in total. Shooting six or seven scenes a day in many locations made it a tough but very rewarding shoot We discuss working with actors and giving them a background and having them on set in character all the time. Intimacy on set and blocking the actors so they could maximise on the natural light working with Adam Deacon during his issues off set and how the lighting and the set design can bring something spectacular to something bleak. The Filmmakers Podcast meets the Indie Film Hustle !! Giles Alderson (The Dare) and Alex Ferrari (This Is Meg) chat together about making indie films, podcasting and how Alex made his latest film On The Corner of Ego and Desire at the Sundance Film Festival when the festival was in full swing right under the noses of the every day public and staff. We start at the beginning though and how Alex got started in film-making and his ups and downs before he finally made his first feature film This is Meg. Alex discusses how being the problem as a first timer filmmaker/director and being the issue is one of the reasons why your film might not get made but sometimes it's good not to happen too early or he would have self imploded and destroyed himself with all that came with it. Being so close before it gets taken away is brutal and devastating. How he went after his dream and made This Is Meg. and wrote the Scriptment with the star of the film Jill-Michele Melean . He decided to do what he preaches about and went out and made a movie. "Just do it. Find the resources you know and make it happen". and How he put it out on various platforms including Hulu. People always think your first film has to be a breakthrough hit . It doesn't. Just make a film and learn from your failings Making On The Corner of Ego and Desire, a feature film at the Sundance Film Festival during the festival was a challenge but he made it happen. Getting the cast and crew together and making the ‘director' role a female. Wanted to make a movie about trying to sell a movie at Sundance. A this is Spinal Tap for the movie makers How people at teh festival were happy to help out. Managed to shoot in amazing places, Molly's, outside nightclubs, on buses and Sundance head quarters without getting kicked out. The only issue was the party scene they had at their own Sundance party were people were having too much fun to care about someone making a movie. But Alex tells us how making the whole movie was like improvisation Jazz. It's emotional and semi autobiographical Distribution side of things . Going to see where the festivals takes it. “Get out of your own way, stop being afraid and get out and do it. Don't wait for it to be perfect” Fail as often as you can so you can get down to the work You have to love this, Not only does Alex run the Indie Film Hustle podcast and website but also now hosts the Bullet proof screenwriters podcast Links www.Bulletproofscreenwriters.com www.Indiefilmhustle.com indiefilmhustle.com/egoanddesire/ BUY This is Meg www.amazon.com/This-Meg-Jill-Mic…A1n/dp/B074DQQN1M Twitter @indiefilmhustle @IamAlexFerrari WATCH World of Darkness documentary: www.amazon.co.uk/World-Darkness-D…ee/dp/B07BS35KQ2 Follow us at www.thefilmmakerspodcast.com T @filmmakerspod @gilesalderson

Stars can come from anywhere — and they do. Forbes's recent list of the richest YouTubers is proof: It's filled with people who post clips about playing video games or kids playing with toys.
