Send us a Text Message. Are you ready for the thrill of the hunt? Join us as we welcome Brayden Alveti, and Cody Marrs from Whitetails Unlimited to our latest podcast episode. You'll be on the edge of your seat as Brayden shares his audacious plans to hunt a whitetail deer with a spear, a newly legalized method in Arkansas. Inspired by Tim Wells, Cody elaborates on the ethical considerations and the meticulous preparations required for this primal hunting technique. We also discuss the buzz surrounding the upcoming bow and gun seasons, spotlighting the new velvet week that has hunters eagerly checking their gear.Curious about the new trends in deer hunting weaponry? We explore the growing interest in alternative firearms like straight wall cartridges and air guns, especially during muzzleloader season. Our conversation delves into the motivations behind these innovations, from enhancing hunting accuracy to making the sport more accessible. We also ponder whether these changes are driven by revenue or efforts to boost hunter participation and control deer populations. Throughout, we reflect on the different skill sets required for each hunting tool and share personal anecdotes about our experiences in the field. But the episode isn't all about the hunt; it's also about the future of hunting culture. We emphasize the importance of engaging the youth in outdoor activities through Whitetails Unlimited's initiatives like BB gun shooting tables and the My First Year program. Personal stories highlight the profound impact of these efforts, aiming to instill respect and appreciation for hunting in the younger generation. Tune in for an enlightening discussion that bridges the gap between tradition and innovation, ensuring the timeless allure of the great outdoors is passed down to the hunters of tomorrow.GUEST WEBSITE: https://www.whitetailsunlimited.comOUR WEBSITE/OTC MERCH: https://offtheclockwithbscott.comHAVOC GEAR SHOP: https://havocnation.comHAVOC BOATS WEBSITE: https://havocboats.comHAVOC DEALERS: https://havocboats.com/dealers/SOCIAL LINKSTruth Social: https://truthsocial.com/@OffTheClockwithBScottFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/Off-The-Clock-With-B-Scott/61557737220814/Twitter (X): https://twitter.com/OTCwithBScottInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/offtheclockwithbscott/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwu6_wWcXDoBzhpHv4YgZGQRumble: https://rumble.com/c/c-5644782Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2g76hRDp9d609LETevSH2U?si=0ba23ae282c94e88&nd=1&dlsi=d9f84d7699b84724Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/off-the-clock-with-b-scott/id1734265760

This week John and his guest tackle one of the most requested topics of the Oklahoma Outdoors Podcast, Bowfishing! Bowfishing started gaining popularity in the late 80's and early 90's, but really took off in the 2000's. Casey Minshew is well known in the trinity river bowfishing circles, and his specialty is large alligator gar. Casey has been called on and acted as a guide by biologist conducting research, and even had the pleasure of taking Tim Wells on an adventure. Though he is highly regarded and respected, he does little guiding and mostly just enjoys bowfishing and the challenges of finding and hauling in giant gar. On this episode Casey and John spend a little time talking about the gear you need for bowfishing and how it differs from traditional archery equipment. They then spend a little time talking about the difference between bowfishing at night versus the day, and how to locate and shoot fish at night. Then comes Casey's favorite topic, finding and shooting huge alligator gar. Not only does he talk strategy, he also gives a lot of general information about alligator gar and their behavior and habits. If you have ever been interested in bowfishing, you will definitely want to check out this episode. Every time Casey puts his boat in the water, his goal is to find a 7 foot fish! In the early 80s, Britain’s pubs and clubs were full of angry, funny, working class poets inspired by punk, reggae and protest. This brave new wave of radical wordsmiths made folk heroes of Seething Wells, Garry Johnson, Ginger John, Attila The Stockbroker, Porky the Poet and one of Garry’s guests today Tim Wells – all of whom will be celebrated next month at the British Library’s Taking Liberties event, ‘Ranting poets, 'zines & Angry Kids of the ’80s’. Tim is also the founding editor of poetry zine Rising and a mean Ska DJ. Who were these funny, chippy backstreet upstarts, what did they want then - and what do poets want today? Joining Garry and Tim in the studio is young, spiky Swindon poet Emily Harrison - Bang Said The Gun’s Poet in Residence and one of eight poets to have their work on the theme of London showcased at Boxpark, Shoreditch. She is currently working on her next collection, confronting a search for love against the stark, yet humanising backdrop of the psychiatric institution. And completing the line-up is Salford’s own JB Barrington, an Amnesty International Poetry Slam winner whose critically rated blue collar protests have won him awards and support slots with Sleaford Mods. >>>>>> Download the show as mp3 file Subscribe in iTunes
