Send us a textEveryone knows and loves Creedence Clearwater Revival. Their run of hits at the end of the '60's, and their enduring popularity, has rarely been equaled. Not so well-known is the story of the clashes that caused their run to end so abruptly. We take a look at how the band split and the many personal and legal issues that led to it.  It ain't pretty! Well, we also kept our promise and listened to the new Coldplay album, “Moon Music”.  How did it sound to us? Regular listeners won't be surprised at our reaction! In Rock News, we look some more at the issues surrounding Diddy, and look at the problems with the "stage hole" in Melbourne. Our Album You Must Listen to Before You Die is 1977's “Bat Out of Hell” by Meat Loaf.  Such a great album!!  References:  Houston Bernard, “Dancing in the Dirt”, Puff Daddy, Sean 'Diddy' Combs, Chris Martin, Marvel Stadium, Music of the Spheres, Olivia Rodrigo, Donald Trump sneakers, Meat Loaf, Bat Out of Hell, Todd Rundgren, You took the Words Right Out of My Mouth, Two Out of Three Ain't Bad, Jim Steinman, Rocky Horror Picture Show, car sex, El Cerruto California, Doug Clifford, Stu Cook, The Blue Velvets, Tom Fogerty, Fantasy Records, Casey Kasem, Credence Newball, Olympia beer, CCR, Dale Hawkins' Susie Q, Apocalypse Now, Woodstock, Bad Moon Rising, Proud Mary, "Have You Ever Seen The Rain?", Hammond B3 organ, Booker T. & the M.G.'s, “Fortunate Son”, Trump (the) fortunate son, An American Werewolf in London, Evan Almighty, Keith Richards, Saul Zaentz, Allen Klein, “The Royal Albert Hall Concert”, Concord Records, Rockin' All Over the World, Status Quo, Asylum, Warner Bros, Centerfield, Zanz Kan't Dance, Mr. Greed, “Mardi Gras”, Rolling Stone (Jon Landau), “Classic Album Review”, “The 10 Worst Albums Ever”, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Pop, Chronicle, US Top 200, Glenn Barros, The Long Road Home Playlist  We play all the music/artists discussed during this episode

He and his wife just took their first trip to Greece and Turkey, with their sights set on taking a big trip at least every other year. After a full career, Johnny has no regrets about retiring, and he's hoping his story will help others decide the right time in their own lives. As a professional, he went by John. Now, more and more people call him Johnny. In a way, retirement has recreated his identity. John had to get up every day and go to work. He's also had a worldwide TOP 10 hit with DON'T SHED A TEAR by Paul Carrack and signed AC/DC to their first publishing deal for North America. He then discovered and signed MEATLOAF where he was also responsible for breaking the single “Two Out of Three Ain't Bad” from the Bat Out of Hell album, one of the biggest selling albums of all time on the Sony/Epic label.  Barry then founded, and was president of, the INTERNATIONAL MANAGERS FORUM (later renamed to MMF) which now has chapters all around the world including Canada. As president, he was instrumental and successful in helping lobby the US government for change to certain music related intellectual laws. I really found Barry's life fascinating as he simply wouldn't take NO for an answer as he made his path through the complexities of the music industry as a publisher, manager and overall music consultant. In my opinion, his keen knowledge of the music business is second to none. Listen to the podcast to find some info about seminars he puts on a few times a year where he talks about how to be successful in a now DIY industry where you need to market and promote yourself properly and he will also critique your songs. In 2018, Barry was inducted into the PERSONAL MANAGERS HALL OF FAME in Las Vegas. Enjoy with song clips throughout the podcast of some of Barry's successes.

Bonnie Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins, was brought up in Skewen, a small village near Swansea. She grew up to become one of Wales' best known performers, achieving chart success all over the world. She is recognised for her distinctive husky voice, and a long list of hit singles including Total Eclipse of the Heart, It's a Heartache, Holding Out for a Hero, Lost in France, More Than a Lover, Bitterblue and If I Sing You a Love Song. In her 50-year career, Bonnie has performed for audiences in countries across the world, and she has enjoyed critical acclaim for her recent albums Rocks and Honey and Between The Earth and the Stars. Her latest album The Best Is Yet to Come – due for release on 26 February 2021 – is a contemporary approach to the sounds and styles of 80s pop rock.   As a teenager, Bonnie was influenced by the biggest female voices of the 60s, especially Tina Turner and Janis Joplin. After spending several years performing in local pubs and clubs around South Wales, first with Bobbie Wayne & the Dixies and later with her own band, Imagination, Bonnie was discovered by talent scout Roger Bell in 1974. RCA Records launched Bonnie's recording career two years later with her debut single My! My! Honeycomb. Her breakthrough hit was Lost in France, written by her managers Ronnie Scott and Steve Wolfe. The single peaked at no. 9 in the UK, and spent six months in the German charts. After enjoying further success with subsequent singles More Than a Lover and Heaven, Bonnie finally broke into the Billboard charts with It's a Heartache, which reached no. 3 in the United States. Of the four albums that Bonnie recorded for RCA, Natural Force was the most successful, selling over half a million copies in the United States. Ready to embrace the new decade, Bonnie moved to CBS Records to work with Jim Steinman in the early 80s. Their fateful collaboration resulted in the groundbreaking international hit Total Eclipse of the Heart, a multi-platinum selling single that still enjoys cultural relevance in the 21st century. It is lifted from her fifth album, Faster Than the Speed of Night, which saw Tyler become to first British female artist to make her debut appearance on the UK Albums Chart at no. 1. During the 80s, she recorded several songs for movie soundtracks, including the UK no. 2 hit Holding Out for a Hero for Footloose, and the Grammy-nominated single Here She Comes for a restoration of Metropolis. Hide Your Heart became Bonnie's third album for CBS, produced by Desmond Child. It features several songs that became hits for other artists, including The Best for Tina Turner and Save Up All Your Tears for Cher. In the 90s, Bonnie signed with German label Hansa Records for three albums. The first, Bitterblue, rivaled the success of her career-defining album Faster Than the Speed of Night in some European countries, earning 4x Platinum status in Norway. Her follow-up albums Angel Heart and Silhouette in Red also became Platinum records in parts of Europe. Bonnie reunited with Jim Steinman in 1995 after signing with EastWest Records. She recorded epic cover versions of Making Love (Out of Nothing At All) and Two Out of Three Ain't Bad for her album Free Spirit, which featured the work of top producers including Humberto Gatica, Christopher Neil and David Foster. Her second record with EastWest, titled All in One Voice, arrived shortly before the new milennium. The celtic-influenced pop album was recorded in Dublin and Hamburg, and features a haunting cover of “I Put a Spell on You”, produced by Mike Batt.   In the early 2000s, Bonnie signed a one-off deal with EMI to record Heart Strings, an album of classic rock covers featuring her touring band and the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Bonnie recorded her next two pop-rock albums, Simply Believe and Wings, with producers Jean Lahcene and Stuart Emerson. Bonnie received an ECHO Music Prize for ‘Best International Pop/Rock Female Artist' in 1994. She has also received three Goldene Europa awards, three Grammy and BRIT nominations, two AMA nominations and one ACM nomination. She is the recipient of an honorary degree from Swansea University,  and she was presented with a Gold Badge from BASCA (now The Ivors Academy) in 2013. Bonnie has represented the United Kingdom at two international music contests. In 1979, she won the Yamaha World Popular Song Festival with her song ‘Sitting On the Edge of the Ocean'. After competing in the Eurovision Song Contest with ‘Believe in Me' in 2013, Bonnie picked up two ESC Radio Awards for ‘Best Song' and ‘Best Singer'. Over and above the timeless tracks that made her a household name, Bonnie has proven her versatility by enjoying a bilingual number one album in France, and performing duets – past collaborators include Vince Gill, Cher, Fabio Jr., Shakin' Stevens and Todd Rundgren. In 2013, she released her country-influenced album Rocks and Honey, recorded at the legendary Blackbird Studios in Nashville with David Huff. In 2019, she released Between the Earth and the Stars, another contemporary record with nods to past moments from her 50-year career. She recorded it with David Mackay, who produced her first two albums back in the 70s. Songwriters include long-time collaborators Kevin Dunne, Brian Cadd and Stuart Emerson, with new contributions from Sir Barry Gibb and Amy Wadge. The album also boasts three exciting duets with Rod Stewart, Cliff Richard and Francis Rossi. Her follow-up album The Best Is Yet to Come will arrive in February 2021. The release was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but now Bonnie feels ready to celebrate: “I hope these new songs will lift your spirits. I am so happy and proud of this new album. It simply rocks and brings a smile to my face every time I put it on. The moment we can get back on stage and see your smiling faces will be extra special. I promise the best IS yet to come.“

Marvin Lee Aday was a singer and occasional actor who, for reasons never definitively answered, recorded under the name Meat Loaf. In all likelihood a childhood nickname, the tag stuck, and many puns followed as the performer -- who tipped the scales at well over 300 pounds -- became one of the biggest chart acts of the 1970s before enjoying a commercial renaissance two decades later. Meat Loaf was born in Dallas, TX. The product of a family of gospel singers, he moved to Los Angeles in 1967 and formed a group known as both Meat Loaf Soul and Popcorn Blizzard. The band earned some renown through opening gigs in support of the Who, the Stooges, and Ted Nugent before Meat Loaf won a role in a West Coast production of the musical Hair. During a tour stop in Detroit, he and a fellow castmate named Stoney teamed to record the 1971 LP Stoney & Meat Loaf for Motown's Rare Earth imprint. After a tenure in the off-Broadway production Rainbow (In New York), Meat Loaf earned a slot in More Than You Deserve, a musical written by classically trained pianist Jim Steinman. An appearance in the cult film The Rocky Horror Picture Show followed, and in 1976 Meat Loaf also handled vocal duties on one side of Nugent's LP Free-for-All. Soon, Meat Loaf reteamed with Steinman for a tour with the National Lampoon Road Show, after which Steinman began composing a musical update of the Peter Pan story titled Never Land. Ultimately, much of what Steinman composed for Never Land became absorbed into 1977's Bat Out of Hell, the album that made Meat Loaf a star. Produced by Todd Rundgren, the record was pure melodrama, a teen rock opera that spawned three Top 40 singles -- "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad," "Paradise by the Dashboard Light," and "You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth" -- on its way to becoming one of the best-selling albums of the decade. A sequel was planned, but in 1981 Steinman issued his own solo debut, Bad for Good. After Meat Loaf released his own follow-up, Dead Ringer, rumors began flying, and it was reported that Loaf had been unable to record the songs that comprised the Steinman album due to physical and emotional problems. Eventually, Steinman filed suit against Meat Loaf and his label, Epic, and none of his songs appeared on the 1983 Meat Loaf effort Midnight at the Lost and Found. After subsequent records like 1984's Bad Attitude and 1986's Blind Before I Stop bombed, the singer declared bankruptcy and began physical and psychological rehabilitation to restore his road-ravaged voice. After several years in relative obscurity, Meat Loaf and Steinman reunited in 1993 for Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell, which continued the original's story line and duplicated its thunderous sound. The follow-up proved almost as successful as the first Bat Out of Hell, selling over five million copies and yielding a massive hit single with "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)." Without Steinman, he returned in 1995 with Welcome to the Neighborhood. The career-long concert compilation Live Around the World followed one year later, but Meat Loaf released no more new material until well into the 2000s. Finally he recorded Couldn't Have Said It Better, which was released on Sanctuary in 2003. Three years later, after resolving the disputes surrounding its release, Bat Out of Hell III: The Monster Is Loose came out -- sans Steinman, though many of his songs were used, which was what caused the problems in the first place -- tracks from which were added to the production of Loaf's Bat Out of Hell play. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/robofudge/support

Macy's husband, a real estate shark, helped Macy claim all the assets from the old podcast, so Theda is recording her new podcast "F*ck ______." on a microcassette player with her wife Hadar, an Israeli ex-patriate. September 1977 — Meat Loaf — “Bat Out of Hell” Is it Opera? Is it Rock? Is it toxic masculinity - or maybe adolescent half-formed not-too-deep masculinity? From the beginning, Bat Out Of Hell has been hard to define, and it took a long time for Meat Loaf, composer Jim Steinman, and producer Todd Rundgren to get the concept album picked up. However, the staying power of this evergreen album is undeniable, with over 43 million sold to date, and 200,000 albums sold per year even today. If you found that overwhelming, well, you took the words right out of my mouth! We hope you enjoy our journey into the depths of this so-uncool-its-cool debut studio album. “Bat Out of Hell” This opening title track comes in at an epic 9:52 run time, and it is not the only long track. This album is great to hear as a whole. Todd Rundgren does the “motorcycle guitar solo” you’ll hear. Meat Loaf certainly has a distinctive, almost operatic voice. “Two Out of Three Ain't Bad” Meat Loaf got his start in theater, and this pop hit single gives credence to his theatrical influence. Meat Loaf won a lot of fans for his role as Eddie in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Several tracks off this album were made into videos, which helped drive the popularity of the album. “Paradise By the Dashboard Light” This track is a cheeky take on parking make-out sessions. There is a Rocky Horror feel to this almost comedic multi-movement work. The song is filled with double entendres, plot twists, and a Phil Rizzuto baseball sequence. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK: “Theme from CHiPs” This cop show debuting in 1977 launched Erik Estrada's career STAFF PICKS: “In the City” by The Jam Wayne highlights a British punk band, reminiscent of the Kinks and the Who. While they made a big splash in the UK, they never took off in the States. “Cat Scratch Fever” by Ted Nugent Brian shares a pick from the Motor City Madman is easy to identify from the screaming guitar intro. Nugent often took the stage wearing only a loincloth back in the day. “We Just Disagree” by Dave Mason Rob's staff pick takes a more mellow direction with the second single released off Mason's album. Great harmonies and a 12-string guitar make this Traffic alum's hit memorable. “Jungle Love” by the Steve Miller Band This hit off the tenth studio release from Steve Miller only took only 30 minutes to complete on the last day of recording, says Bruce. "You treat me like I was your ocean - you swim in my blood when it's warm." LAUGH TRACK: “Grandmother’s Song” by Steve Martin Steve Martin's comedy takes us out on this week's podcast.

Today the Philadelphia is blessed with Marion Wren’s presence, who is the director of NYU’s Abu Dhabi writing program. The discussion started with the flu epidemic hitting Philadelphians, which Marion even said made her feel as if she was “swimming in a petri dish”. Then, Kathleen once again, regales the listeners about CBD and the miracles of a concoction of B12 and Vitamin C that has saved her from catching any kind of sickness going in and out of the hospital to visit her father. Moreover, she vouches that CBD has helped her with sleep after “15 years of sleep meds”. Talk about a miracle drug!   Then, without further adieu, the gang jumps in to the poems for the day. The three poems discussed on this podcast were written by Emily Cousins, a teacher and poet in Denver, Colorado.   The first poem was titled, “Refuse To Write You”. The gang discussed how some lines were a bit awkward, but were masterfully saved by the following lines. Hilariously, Ali compares Cousins writing “I’m not going to write you a love poem” to “I’m not going to write you a love song” by Sara Bareilles. You just cannot un-hear something like that. Thanks for the valuable input, Ali! We are so sad to see you go in three months!    They discussed the meaning of the poem, in which Marion thought it represented a rocky` relationship, while Kathleen got that it portrayed the author’s hesitation to commit.   Next up were two short poems, the first being “To Make Space.” Marion suggested that it read like a prayer, which Ali echoed sounded like a mantra. The crew discussed the freshness of the piece and the originality of ideas. Also, an issue discussed was the lack of images, the barely seen image of the seed. Although, Marion did argue that the poem promotes mindfulness so the images should not be focused on too much.    The last poem discussed was “With Fruition”. It raised up arguments from the weather around the world to its “meditative” qualities.   Finally it came time to vote, did these pieces earn their love songs, or will they wilt into obscurity, listen on and find out!   *“Two Out of Three” by Meat Loaf plays*

From his Dove Award winning gospel albums to his genre-defining Southern rock anthems and his CMA Award-winning country hits, few artists have left a more indelible mark on America's musical landscape than Charlie Daniels. An outspoken patriot, beloved mentor to young artists and still a road warrior at age 79, Charlie has parlayed his passion for music into a multi-platinum career and a platform to support the military, underprivileged children and others in need. Raised among the longleaf pines of North Carolina, Charlie began his career playing bluegrass music with the Misty Mountain Boys. After moving to Nashville in 1967, he began making a name for himself as a songwriter, session musician and producer. Elvis Presley recorded a tune Charlie co-wrote titled “It Hurts Me,” which was released on the flip side of “Kissin' Cousins.” He played on such landmark albums as Bob Dylan's Nashville Skyline and tried his hand at producing on the Youngbloods' Elephant Mountain and Ride the Wind. His own unique voice as an artist emerged as Charlie recorded his self-titled solo album in 1970 for Capitol Records. Two years later he formed the Charlie Daniels Band and the group scored its first hit with the top ten “Uneasy Rider.” Since then the CDB has populated radio with such memorable hits as “Long Haired Country Boy,” “The South's Gonna Do It Again,” “In America,” “The Legend of Wooley Swamp” and of course, his signature song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” which won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group in 1979 as well as single of the year at the Country Music Association Awards. The CDB will perform 100 concert dates this year including performances on the Grand Ole Opry. The band's latest release, "Off the Grid - Doin' It Dylan," features 10 Bob Dylan songs by the CDB, and is their first CDB studio release since 2007. “I love what I do,” says Charlie of his 50-plus years in the music business. “I look forward to entertaining people. When show time gets here, I'm ready to go, ready to go play for them. It's a labor of love. I just thank God I make a living at what I enjoy doing.”-2- Whether performing in the hit 80s movie Urban Cowboy, singing on Easter Sunday at his local church or leading an all-star cast at one of his famed Volunteer Jams, Charlie just exudes joy whenever he steps on stage and he's always been quick to provide a platform for other artists to shine. In 1974 he invited some friends to join him at Nashville's War Memorial Auditorium for an all-star concert he dubbed The Volunteer Jam. The event continued for years and was broadcast in the U.S. and internationally. Over the years, the Jam featured a diverse line up that included Willie Nelson, Ted Nugent, Roy Acuff, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Crystal Gayle, James Brown, Emmylou Harris, Amy Grant, George Thorogood, Kris Kristofferson, Little Richard, Tammy Wynette, Alabama, Oak Ridge Boys, B. B. King and the Allman Brothers. As diverse as his live shows have always been, his discography has also reflected Charlie's love of multiple genres. In 1994 he released his first Christian album, The Door, on Sparrow Records. The album won the Gospel Music Association's Dove Award for Best Country Album and “Two Out of Three” was named video of the year by the Christian Country Music Association. In 1997, Sony Wonder released Charlie's first children's album, “By The Light of The Moon: Campfire Songs and Cowboy Tunes'. An astute businessman as well as talented musician, Charlie launched Blue Hat Records in 1997 with his longtime personal manager David Corlew. Over the past 15 years, the label has released such memorable albums as Blues Hat, Tailgate Party, Road Dogs, Fiddle Fire: 25 Years of the Charlie Daniels Band and his first bluegrass album 2005's Songs From the Longleaf Pines and 2007's album Deuces, featuring duets with Brad Paisley, Gretchen Wilson, Bonnie Bramlett, Travis Tritt, Dolly Parton, Vince Gill,...

Episode 54 gives you something “Phantasm” movies 1 through 4 could not- ”Phantasm: Ravager”. Yes, part 5 of the series is available to rent just before Halloween. As the great philosopher Meatloaf once said: “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad”. Well, that’s true unless those two dislike your movie more than a little bit. The other host likes about two thirds of “Phantasm: Ravager” but can’t seem to do the math to get it to a C+ . Richard still likes it enough to recommend it to horror fans, while Will calls it “almost total nonsense”. Do listeners feel that this is just the tradition of the Phantasm movies? We shall see! In the march toward Halloween, your hosts also discuss other movies that they stuffed into their eyeholes. Will saw “Babadook” and “The Orphanage”, one of which he liked. In addition to the 4k restoration of the original “Phantasm”, Richard saw several movies, and called only one of them “A dumpster fire”. Jolyon saw “Unfriended” and managed to see where Hitchcock may have followed a similar idea. Is “Unfriended" a lot like “Rope”? Um, no. It’s not all negativity and sarcasm, because Richard goes to IMDB and reads some positive Phantasm: Ravager reviews. Jolyon postulates that all of this Phantasm stuff may just be in Reggie’s head….Reggie’s saucepan-dented head. The same Reggie who might just be the Tall Man himself (if only the pants fit). Was this movie filmed entirely on an iPhone? Does it all start falling apart when you begin explaining stuff? Is Don Coscarelli’s other work better than this? Do we just need more Elvis? Listen and find out! You might want to put on your dancing shoes, because it looks like this is the last tango with the Tall Man!
