Today we're diving into the importance of getting your finances in order when going through a divorce, especially when it comes to raising kids in a blended family. One of the biggest challenges of co-parenting in a blended family is managing the financial side of things. It's crucial to have a clear financial plan in place to avoid any unnecessary tension and conflict with your ex-partner. When you have a solid financial foundation, you can focus on what really matters - providing a stable and loving environment for your children. By getting your finances in order, you can avoid constantly asking your ex for money for small weekly expenses. This can put undue pressure on the relationship and create unnecessary stress for both parties. It's important to establish a system for shared expenses and set clear boundaries to ensure that everyone is on the same page. Having a financial plan in place also allows you to prioritize your children's needs and ensure that they are supported financially. By working together with your ex-partner to create a budget and financial plan or parenting plan and you can provide a consistent and secure environment for your children to thrive in. So, take the time to get your finances in order and set yourself up for success in co-parenting in a blended family. By doing so, you can focus on what really matters - creating a happy and healthy environment for your children to grow and thrive. In this episode, I had the pleasure of chatting with Jasmine about her journey from growing up as the daughter of a minister to becoming a leading voice in the realm of spirituality and self-discovery. From being a child and worrying about her friends salvation based on religious teachings to embarking on her own exploration of spirituality, Jasmine shares how her experiences have shaped her perspective and led her to where she is today. One of the topics we delved into was the process of deconstructing from the church and traditional religious beliefs. Jasmine opens up about her own journey of questioning and challenging these beliefs, ultimately finding a deeper understanding of herself and the world around her. But it wasn't just religion that Jasmine questioned. She also shares candidly about her exploration of sexuality and how it made her reevaluate her connections with partners and herself. Through vulnerability and honesty, she discovered that understanding her own needs and desires was essential for meaningful connections, whether in partnerships or casual encounters. Jasmine challenges the notion of spiritual contracts and soul ties, arguing that true connection stems from understanding and fulfilling each other's needs rather than some mystical bond. Her refreshing perspective sheds light on the complexities of human relationships and the importance of authenticity in navigating them. Throughout the conversation, Jasmine offers insights into her creative process, explaining how her content comes to her and how she crafts her thoughts into engaging videos. Her unique blend of humor, insight, and authenticity has garnered her a dedicated following, eager to join her on her journey of self-discovery and enlightenment and in-your-face honesty. She has worked with a wide range of clients, from celebrities to everyday individuals, and her expertise has been recognized on major media platforms. ## Exploring Aesthetics Rachel starts off by discussing the idea of different aesthetics, such as the "clean girl aesthetic." She explains how many people tend to get stuck in style ruts or rely on a specific "uniform" when it comes to their outfits. According to Rachel, this can limit creativity and self-expression. Rachel shares some valuable insights on how to break free from these constraints and embrace personal style with confidence: 1.  Trying out new styles, colors, and patterns can help you discover what truly resonates with your taste. 2.  Don't be afraid to mix different pieces together to create unique outfits that showcase your personality. 3.  Picking a great white t-shirt or an amazing sweater with great fabric that will last can elevate any look and add that extra touch of style. Another important aspect that I asked about is the significance of dressing for your body type. I believe that understanding your body proportions and selecting clothing that flatters your figure can make a world of difference in how you feel about yourself. Rachel offers some practical tips for dressing according to different body types and how understanding proportion is so important and helps her clients with this.  ## Investment Pieces and Styling Services Rachel believes that investing in quality, timeless pieces is key to building a versatile wardrobe that stands the test of time. While these pieces may come with a higher price tag initially, they can actually save you money in the long run as you won't constantly need to replace them. She also discusses the value of working with a stylist to curate your wardrobe and select pieces that align with your personal style and lifestyle needs. A stylist can offer objective advice, introduce you to new brands or styles, and help you make more informed purchasing decisions. Rachel offers various styling services tailored to individual needs: 1.  **Closet Audit:** An in-depth assessment of your current wardrobe to identify what's working, what's not, and what key pieces are missing. 2.  **Personal Shopping:** Guided shopping trips or online sessions where Rachel helps you find pieces that fit your style and budget. 3.  **Special Occasion Styling:** Assistance with outfit selection and styling for important events like weddings, parties, or professional engagements. 4.  **Virtual Styling:** Remote consultations via video call where Rachel provides style advice, helps you put together outfits, or answers any fashion-related questions. ## Connect with Rachel Jimenez Penca You can connect with Rachel on social media to stay updated on her latest fashion tips and insights: *   Instagram *  Facebook *   LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rachel-jimenez-penca/  For more information about Rachel's services and how she can help you elevate your style, visit her website: [Rachel J Styling](https://www.racheljstyling.com/) Thank you for joining us for this insightful discussion with Rachel Jimenez Penca. Episode 152: Never Binge Again with Kimberly Forzley Today we have an incredible guest who's here to help us shatter some food myths and understand the power of our own minds when it comes to health and fitness. Joining us is Kimberly Forzley, a health coach, personal trainer, and Never Binge Again coach. Kimberly specializes in helping people unlock their true potential and take control of their health.  Segment 1: The Food We Eat and Its Impact on Our Bodies Many of us are consuming substances that our bodies can't process properly, leading to weight gain and other health issues.  A common misconception that everything labeled as "food" is actually nourishing our bodies. Many products today are heavily processed, loaded with artificial ingredients, and stripped of essential nutrients. These so-called "foods" can wreak havoc on our metabolism and lead to weight gain and various health problems. It's all about going back to the basics. We should focus on whole, unprocessed foods. Read labels, avoid products with too many unrecognizable ingredients, and aim for a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats. When we give our bodies the nutrients they need, we're on the right track to achieving better health. Segment 2: Breaking the Age and Hormone Myth Women in their 50s often feel like they're victims of their age and hormones, thinking they can't lose weight or get fit.  Age and hormones do play a role, but they don't have to be the final word. The key is to understand how these factors affect our bodies and adjust our approach accordingly. It's possible to make progress and achieve a healthier, fitter self at any age. It's essential to consult with a healthcare professional or coach who specializes in women's health. They can provide guidance on managing hormones and maintaining overall well-being. Beyond that, remember that age is just a number. By adopting a balanced diet, staying active, and taking care of our mental health, we can overcome these challenges and lead vibrant lives. Segment 3: The Sabotaging Voice in Our Heads Many of us have that inner voice, often referred to as the "reptilian brain," that sabotages our goals and makes us believe we have to listen to it.  The reptilian brain is the part of our psyche that craves instant gratification and comfort, often leading us to make unhealthy choices. It's the voice that says, "Skip the workout" or "Have that extra dessert." Recognizing this inner voice is the first step in gaining control over it. Mindfulness and self-awareness are key. By identifying when that sabotaging voice creeps in, we can consciously choose to follow our higher brain, which is logical, rational, and goal-oriented. Practices like meditation, journaling, and positive affirmations can help us strengthen our higher brain's voice and silence the reptilian brain's influence. Segment 4: Empowering Women to Achieve Their Health and Fitness Goals Empowerment is the key. Believe in yourself, your potential, and your ability to transform. Seek support, whether from professionals, friends, or support groups. Don't let your age, hormones, or that inner voice define you. You have the power to take control of your health and fitness journey. Conclusion An eye-opening conversation with Kimberly Forzley about unmasking the food myth and mastering our minds for better health and fitness. Remember, you have the power to choose nourishing foods and conquer self-sabotage, regardless of your age or circumstances. We'll be back with more inspiring content soon. Stay healthy and empowered! 150: The MIND | BODY Importance

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 5, 2023 43:34

Today I delve into the fascinating world of mind-body connection and explore how our bodies communicate with us. In today's episode, I will discuss the profound importance of listening to your body, which is constantly sending signals and messages. We'll also explore the groundbreaking research of Dr. Candace Pert, who discovered the intricate link between our emotional well-being and physical health. Segment 1: The Body's Silent Language Our bodies have an incredible ability to communicate with us, often in ways we may not immediately recognize. Whether it's a feeling of tension in your shoulders or a churning sensation in your gut, these physical sensations are the body's way of speaking to us. They are signals that convey important information about our physical and emotional well-being. Dr. Candace Pert's Discovery Dr. Candace Pert, a pioneering neuroscientist and pharmacologist, made a groundbreaking discovery that revolutionized our understanding of the mind-body connection. She found that our brains have the ability to send inflammatory signals to different parts of our bodies as a response to emotional distress. Essentially, the brain perceives emotional turmoil as a threat and attempts to "protect" us by creating inflammation. The Brain's Protective Mechanism When the brain sends inflammatory signals to certain areas of the body, it's doing so with the intention of shielding us from emotional distress that it believes we can't handle. This is a survival mechanism deeply ingrained in our biology. It's a way for the brain to distract us from overwhelming emotions by diverting our attention to physical discomfort. The Importance of Listening Listening to your body is not just about identifying physical discomfort; it's about acknowledging the deeper messages it's trying to convey. When we ignore these signals, we risk suppressing our emotions, which can lead to chronic health issues and emotional turmoil. Practical Steps to Tune In Mindfulness Practices: Engage in mindfulness meditation and body-scanning techniques to become more attuned to your body's signals. Journaling: Keep a journal to track physical sensations and emotions. Over time, patterns may emerge, helping you understand your body's language better. Emotional Processing: Allow yourself to feel and express your emotions. When you do, you're less likely to need the brain's protective mechanism of inflammation. Self-Care: Prioritize self-care activities like exercise, a balanced diet, and adequate sleep to support your body's overall health and emotional well-being. Dr. Candace Pert's research reveals the intricate connection between our emotions and physical health. Our bodies are constantly speaking to us, trying to protect us from emotional distress. By listening and responding to these signals, we can embark on a journey of better emotional and physical well-being. Remember, your body is your lifelong companion and guide—listen to it, nurture it, and let it lead you towards a healthier, happier life. Unmasking the Truth: The Deceptive Nature of Alcohol

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 22, 2023 41:41

Today, we're diving deep into a topic that has long been cloaked in misconceptions and half-truths. It's time to unmask the hidden dangers of alcohol, a substance that has woven its way into the fabric of our society, often without us even realizing the extent of its impact. The Deceptive Nature of Alcohol Alcohol, a legal and socially accepted drug, has long been touted as a means of relaxation, celebration, and even escape. But what if I told you that we've been living a lie, one carefully crafted by the alcohol industry? It's time to peel back the layers and reveal the truth. The Dopamine Deception Let's start with a fundamental aspect of alcohol's deception: its effect on our brain's reward system. You see, when you take that sip of wine or down a beer, your brain is flooded with dopamine, the feel-good neurotransmitter. This rush of pleasure creates an illusion of relaxation and happiness, but it's merely a fleeting high, followed by a crash. Think of it as a twisted game of emotional roulette. Glutamate's Grip The deceit doesn't stop there. Alcohol also messes with another important player in our brain chemistry – glutamate. This neurotransmitter is responsible for excitatory signals in the brain, and alcohol acts as a sedative, suppressing glutamate. So, while you may feel relaxed, your brain is actually being dulled, affecting your cognitive abilities and emotional responses. Alcohol vs. Other Drugs Some may argue that alcohol is no different from other drugs, and they would be right. In many ways, alcohol shares similarities with substances we often stigmatize. The difference? Alcohol's PR campaign. The alcohol industry has expertly marketed its product as a harmless indulgence, while other drugs are condemned. It's a double standard that has shaped our perception. The Youth Deception Young people, the future of our world, are particularly vulnerable to alcohol's deception. They aren't being adequately informed about the dangers of alcohol and nicotine, which both have the potential to hijack their natural dopamine production. It's a sinister cycle of addiction that's perpetuated by design. Breaking the Chains It's time to break the chains of deception, to recognize alcohol for what it truly is – a drug with the potential to dull our lives, impair our judgment, and cause addiction. It's time for open conversations, informed choices, and a reevaluation of our societal norms. I want to leave you with this: knowledge is power. By understanding the deceptive nature of alcohol and the impact it has on our lives, we can make more informed choices and help guide our youth towards healthier decisions. It's time to lift the veil and see alcohol for what it truly is.  Get full show notes, resources, and links on my website! Are you ready to go deeper? I am giving you the keys to the castle. Introduction: I'm diving into the journey of finding genuine joy by breaking free from addiction and the allure of false dopamine hits. We're seeing this happen in different ways, like leaving a job that makes us unhappy or ending a toxic relationship, or changing unhealthy behaviors. The underlying theme here is letting go of whatever doesn't serve you anymore in order to move forward in life. It's powerful stuff and I'm excited to see where we go from here in terms of humanity as a whole. In this episode, Alison and I chat about exactly that-letting go of things that don't serve us, making big life changes, and embracing self-love. We also discuss how internalizers and externalizers approach these life changes differently, why they can clash as a result, and how perfectionism plays a role in it all. If you're curious about this shift we see happening in our lives, this is the episode for you. We want to hear from you! If you have feedback on this new series, please let us know. Artificial intelligence (AI) is such a hot button topic these days. With the rise of tools like ChatGPT, we can now automate certain tasks in minutes that would have taken a lot longer. The question: Is AI a good thing or a bad thing? The answer: Mostly good, but it depends on how it's used.  In this episode, Alison asks me all the questions about AI and its impact on our future. As with any tool, there are pros and cons that we have to weigh, but the future looks a bit brighter with AI in our lives. It can free us to do other things we love, it can level the playing field when it comes to information, it can remove human error on a systemic level. The times, they are a-changin', my friends. I'm sure you've been seeing a lot about gender roles in the media lately, whether it's Target and the backlash of their LGBTQ clothing or it's Florida establishing anti-trans laws. But this concept of traditional gender roles (and what happens when people step out of them) is everywhere lately.  It might be surprising to know that these “norms” have evolved throughout history and are more fluid than you might think. But for some reason, whether it's religion or the media or fear of rejection, we keep adhering to these gender roles when we don't have to.  In this episode, Alison, who is basically my co-host now, joins me in a continuation of last week's episode on gender roles and what it might feel like to rebel against what society expects of us. I'm getting a real sense of how it feels to be the traditional dad in most families who work all the time and I can appreciate how difficult it must be.  In this episode, Alison joins me again as I'm sharing the guilt I feel after being away from my kids for so long, but also, surprisingly, the lightness of being the fun parent for once.  We want to hear from you!
