Mike Peters is the rare rock star to have an MBE after his name - awarded not for his musical successes with Welsh rock band The Alarm, considerable though they have been, but for his charity work with the Love Hope Strength foundation. That story starts In 1995 when, on the eve of an American tour, Peters was informed that he had Non Hodgkin's Lymphona, or cancer of the blood cells; deciding to push on through the tour, cloak himself in a fighting attitude, and turn down a bone marrow transplant, Peters' disease appeared to right itself, only to return in 2005 as leukemia. Rather than bemoan his bad luck, Peters instead recognized the enormous good fortune of having quality free cancer care on the National Health Service in a world where there is so much health inequality, and in 2007 he co-founded Love Hope Strength, with the belief that "all people deserve quality care, a marrow donor if needed, and most importantly, hope."Since then, Peters, with partner James Chippendale, another leukemia survivor, has hosted concerts on top of Mt Everest Base Camp, Mt Kilimanjaro and Mt Fuji, established the 'Get On The List' drive at concerts to sign up potential bone marrow donors, and recorded the world's longest song, The Scriptures, to promote bone marrow donor initiatives between Israelis and Palestinians. Money raised has served to fund a mammography machine in Nepal, build a Children’s Cancer Unit in Tanzania, and to fund cancer projects within the UK.Mike Peters first met One Step Beyond host Tony Fletcher in 1981, after calling him to pitch a copy of the debut single by The Alarm, 'Unsafe Building'. The two built a close friendship in the early 1980s, and Fletcher's first trip to the USA, where he would later move, was as part of the press for The Alarm's April 1986 Spirit of 86 concert at UCLA broadcast live worldwide by MTV. Though they fell out of touch for 25 years, they recently had cause to renew contact, leading to this interview. Mike, a keen hiker, runner, climber and footballer, is supported in his daily mission by his wife of 30 years, Jules Peters, also a cancer survivor, and the subject of two recent BBC Wales documentaries on her own battles to overcome breast cancer surgery. Together, their positive outlook has enabled them to outrun cancer and raise a family. Mike released a new album as The Alarm, Raw, earlier this spring, and is about to set off on a sponsored walk of Offa's Dyke, which runs down the English-Welsh border. The One Inside: An Internal Family Systems (IFS) podcast

Mike Elkin is sorta famous. Well, I think he is. Mike is a lead trainer for the IFS Institute and, before meeting him and then working with him as a program assistant, I had heard him quoted time and again from other students and his fellow trainers. So, I was thrilled to meet him and more thrilled how we hit it off. I adore him as I think you'll be able to tell. Mike is all over the place, as you'll be able to tell, which is good for us because we get to cover many topics and get lots of 'Mike-isms.' Here are few: Shame:  my badness witnessed Moral Meaning: my need to be a good person Alcoholic belief system (whether you or family ever actually drink): A good person is a person without flaws or limitations Addiction: We need relief from shame (especially if our family had an alcoholic belief system) and get attached to whatever gives us that relief. This 'parts' strategy' gets imitated over and over again as a way to help us feel relief. Protectors don't protect. They energize and attract whatever they are trying to protect against. Receptors: follow the activated part and heal it so there is no longer a receptor for it. Couples fight about one thing: who is the better person. Each one has their 'innocent victim story.' Migraines/physical pain/back pain: Talk to the part who generates the pain. Panic attacks: almost all panic attacks are phobic reactions to unaware triggers. Mike has a 'phobia protocol' he uses that is a mixture of his history with hypnosis and IFS. Despair: parts feel relief when they stop the try-fail-shame-give up cycle. They can see Hope as a threat, Despair as a resource. Lastly, You will also hear how Dick and Mike met and how Mike finally was won over to IFS. And, I assure you, if we are able to leave our houses this summer, I will be using his house to park so I can go to the beach. Enjoy! And, take care of all your sweet parts, Tammy To learn more about the Level two course, Anxiety, Depression and Shame: https://courses.selfleadership.org/item/internal-family-systems-ifs-anxiety-depression-shame-47315 Mike's book: https://www.amazon.com/Families-Under-Influence-Changing-Alcoholic/dp/0393306704

Actress Nicole J. Butler, the star of the State Farm ' She Shed' commercial, was born in Chicago and moved to Los Angeles after college to pursue her dreams of acting. It was countless small parts in TV shows such as 'The Big Bang Theory,' 'Mike and Molly,' 'NCIS' and many more — coupled with commercials for such national brands as Progressive Insurance, Gain laundry detergent, Pizza Hut, Walmart, and Target that moved her career from part-time to full time actress. Ultimately it was that State Farm commercial that went viral that sent her from “commercial actress” to “She Shed Cheryl,” a moniker she would come to embrace. Music: https://www.purple-planet.com

Radio host, writer and researcher Mike Williams, known as The Sage of Quay, features in this two-hour return to the replacement of the real James Paul McCartney back in 1966 with a double who has been impersonating him ever since. This individual is William Shepherd, (not Campbell, as frequently claimed,) a trained musician, actor and freemason also known by the nickname 'Billy Shears.'Mike gives his observations on the book 'The Memoirs Of Billy Shears', which purports to be the confessional auto-biography of Shepherd, but embellished with enough fictional elements for it to be passed off as a 'novel' to avoid the legal minefield that would occur were the replacement to go on the official record. Mike's comments build on those he put forward in an equally comprehensive podcast interview with Sofia Smallstorm recently, and it's recommended that listeners really wanting to understand this subject area fully, listen to that interview first in order to get the full background. It's available here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QV39RmErX14Mike observes that the level of knowledge of The Beatles' world in the 1960s, and the breaking-down of the real meaning behind so many of their ambiguous lyrics, can only have come from someone on the inside, giving credibility to many of the book's claims. The Beatles deliberately placed hundreds of symbolic clues into their music and imagery, giving the public the opportunity to understand the nature of the switch all along. While all doubt has now been removed that the person the world has thought of as 'Paul McCartney' for the past half a century is really William Shepherd, one highly pertinent question remains; what happened to the real Paul, and was his death on September 11th of 1966 really a tragic accident that nobody could have foreseen, or something altogether more sinister? And what further revelations might we expect upon the death of Billy Shears, now aged 79?This interview is split into two parts for the convenience of those who like to burn the audio to CD, like myself. 'Wolf 3 defends SA-11 bearing 020!' came the call from the back pair of our low-level 4-ship of Tornado GR4 bombers.   Our formation had stumbled upon the enemy Air Defences and they were not happy to be disturbed over their lunch hour.   'Well, there it is!' proclaimed my Navigator confirming what we'd both been expecting; 'I told you they'd get themselves killed!' he laughed.   I chuckled with him as I hugged the valley floor, pressing on towards our target which was now only 2 minutes flying time away.   'Wolf 4 defending SA-8 bearing 270, egressing to the east!' came a call soon after.   'That's the back pair out, that's not good.' I said, noting that there were just two of us left to hit the target.   We thundered on as low as we dared, trying to use the undulating terrain for cover. The wind over the hills buffeted our 26 tonne war machine making it hard to plot the enemy's systems onto my kneeboard.   'Mike,' I called, 'I've got an SA-6 looking at us right 2 o'clock - make it go away.'   Our Radar Warning Receiver was displaying the familiar lines associated with a particularly aggressive Surface to Air Missile system. I pushed the throttles forward marching the speed up towards 500 mph in an attempt to progress us away from the threat.   'That 6 wasn't in the brief,' he replied, 'Come left 30 degrees to put him on the beam.'   http://www.fastjetperformance.com/podcasts/hit-the-target-dont-get-shot-down-on-goals-and-life See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Mike 'Alamo' Bainton is a living legend of the modern precision throwing arts. Based out of Austin, Texas, Mike is the founder of the 'International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame' and is justifiably an inductee into that rarified gallery, having 32 National and 18 World Championship titles under his belt before retiring from competition in 2009! At this year's World Championships held in Nottingham, I happened to mention that I had been lucky enough to line Mike up for this interview and was told that 'Mike is the glue that holds together the world of modern competition knife throwing' - I can think of no better compliment to be paid by one's peers. I recorded this interview at the end of August and am thrilled to be able to share it with you now - Mike has such a rich history and knowledge of the sport and is truly one of the key figures working to shape the future of competition throwing; it was a privilege to interview him and I hope we will talk again often in the future.

Because you can't, you won't and you don't stop.... The Beastie Boys are without a doubt one of my favourite groups of all time, any genre ! When i first came across them in 86/ 87 I immediately fell in love with their music, their style, their rhymes etc etc ( I think it was on a TV Show in the UK called The Tube the first time they aired the "Fight For Your Right" video ) I've been a massive fan ever since. I've been meaning to do this mix for a while and started to put it together last year but when Adam Yauch passed away it didn't feel right, didn't want it to look like I was jumping on the bandwagon. Wanted to get it out in time for what would've been his 49th birthday on the 5th of August but unfortunately time was against me, but nonetheless this is my tribute to MCA and of course the other two Beasties the King Ad-Rock and M I K E to the D you go to see him and pay a fee. It was hard to try and limit myself to the material I'd use but I had to have a cut off at some point to stop myself going insane trying to break down the tracklist. So I went for the era that meant the most to me personally, from 86 to 98 ( Licensed to Ill through Hello Nasty ) . Even then I've still missed some stuff off I would've liked to include, but these are "some" of my favourite B-Boys tunes. So without foither ado, please enjoy 100 minutes of Hip Hop, Funk and Hardcore Punk. (Hey)Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you The Beastie Boys... To remember and honor, that's why I chose to participate. I read another blog, the happy catholic and was intrigued about this project to honor 911 victims. I went onto the website and clicked on the button to take me to the victims that still needed bloggers. What I received was a cry of the heart, names, scrolling down, as if looking up at me, longing for expression. I looked at all the names and travelled down the list, my eyes still, my heart taking in the people behind the names. As I looked upon the names I began to recognize the importance and the deep commitment that it took to give these names a face, a story, a remembrance. I debated whether or not I could be a part of this process. To be honest, I didn't think that I wanted to make the commitment, too much responsibility, too much stepping out of my comfort zone. One name struck at me. It was a woman's name, long, latino in origin, (if I remember the name, I will write it), it struck me because it was such a long name. I clicked on it. She was a mother, and her country of origin was El Salvador. I broke down and cried. I'm from El Salvador. I had no idea that there was someone from my country who had died in this tragedy. I felt at that moment that I needed to do this, I took it as a sign from this name to participate. Everyone needs a voice, and even when we are gone, our hearts still beat in the world. They give us power, desire and a dense need to express love and community. I wanted to get her. This woman who seemed to have reached out to me, she was like me, we already had something in common. I wanted a commonality. I found difference and what a gift that was. I was blessed with the opportunity to honor Michael Morgan Taylor (Mike or otherwise known as Mouse). He was different than I. I worried, as I felt no commonality. He was a man, number one, a bond trader at Cantor Fitzgerald (please forgive me all bond traders, but I have no idea what that is). He's from Western Pennsylvania. I've never been there. For a moment I thought, what am I going to do? I have no point of reference from which to begin. Then I softened. I allowed myself to see Michael M Taylor. I looked at the picture on the site, letting go of preconceived notions of who, how or why. I let myself open to know him. As I gazed on his face and his huge smile (this was the picture I saw first) I found comfort. I committed myself to knowing. I followed all the links that I could for Mike. I read, quickly, as an overview. I knew that there was much more to Mike than what I read. Would I be able to say enough? And then, the angels began to appear. John Davies, Mike's friend from 2nd grade reached out to me. He was kind enough to share some stories of Mike (Mouse, his nickname), and he began to come alive to me. Then Mike's sister Mary Kaye contacted me. Just the fact that she did helped me settle. I am a sister. I have two brothers. I know. So, from my heart, here goes... Honoring Mouse From the get go it seemed to me from what I have read about Mike, he knew his preferences, his values, his loves, his interests and most definitely who he wanted to be, not what he wanted to be, but who he wanted to be. Little things made him happy, the simplicity of one liners ("One of his golfing buddies asked him 'Mike, where you been all summer?' and he replied 'Ive been in love.' *), the desire to refine a golf game ("He scored the best round of his life over the Labor Day weekend, shooting a 73." *That was the last weekend his parents got to see their first-born child.), the thrill of computers ("for Mouse, not being technical was a hanging offense" ***), the loyalty to a basketball team ("Boy, did he love Duke basketball. He rarely missed a televised game" *), and ahhh, the exquisite taste of fine wine ("One way to know Michael M. Taylor is to consider the eight-inch stack of index cards he dutifully prepared after deciding to get serious about wine. On the cards he recorded his impression of every bottle he tasted. As his pursuit of fine wines advanced, Mr. Taylor started his own collection. It now numbers more than 600 bottles." **). Even when he was little there was an inner depth, a desire that sprung out of him like a burst of light, longing to express and to share, in mischievous ways ("The first real memory I have of Mike was in sixth grade. We were sitting in Mrs. Fleck's science class. Mrs. Fleck was a tall skinny older woman a few years from retirement. On the page of the science book that we were looking at, there was a picture of algae through a microscope. Mike pointed at it and said in his high squeaky voice, 'looks like Fleck.' We were both almost thrown out of the class because we were laughing uncontrollably." ***) His mind always moved quickly, from one thing to the next, sharp, often it seemed that as those around him were still on step one, Mouse, was already nearing the end of the journey. He had found his own way of getting there. It wasn't a serious inquiry into things for the sake of things, it was a desire to know more. He recognized that there was always more, from a very young age. When Mouse took on a new 'obsession' whether it be golf, wine, computers, or love, he did it fully, one hundred percent, no more, no less. As much as he loved mastering these 'obsessions' the part most savored was when things were just a little bit off, the slight bitterness behind a sweet wine, an almost perfect game of golf, lost only in the last putt, due to the unseen angle on the green, getting a Porsche and not knowing how to drive a stick. ("I can still see him at lunch salting his Fritos. I don't know why I remember that, but it always struck me as funny that Fritos weren't salty enough for him. He'd pour in some salt and then shake the bag until they were coated." ***) Yep, these things make life so much more juicy. Mike strived for perfection, his mind clear and sharp, yet his heart soft and yielding. It seems to me that he took in people, really took them in. He saw what was possible within them and helped them to also be more ("In a highly competitive business, he helped others get established. 'People in the business tend to chase after people who are already good,' said Jerry Bias, a friend. 'I was just getting started and he encouraged me.' " **) From what I have gleaned of what I have read about Mike, he didn't hold back. I may be wrong, but I don't think that on September 11th he had many regrets, if any. His heart was full. He had found love, his work was fulfilling and he was embarking on tasting more of the world around him. Michael's heart beats each time a young boy cracks his friends up with a smart remark at a teacher, when good friends delve into the subtleties of a glass of wine, when the crowd cheers as the Duke basketball team scores the winning basket. These everyday moments, the simple, hold the most sacred memories of those who love him. Through the love, alive in those still here, Mike shines bright. His life was unexpectedly cut short. I wish Mike would have had the opportunity to continue to delve into the sensations and experiences of this world, to continue to live as brightly as he did, and yet, even though it seems so unfair that he is no longer here, I have to say that his presence is tangible. He lived, and he lived fully, that is perfection.
