Here's another update on a cultural trend that should come as no surprise. A study of more than twenty-five hundred subjects ages thirteen to twenty four has found that those who vape nicotine only, THC only, or both nicotine and THC are more likely to report anxiety symptoms, symptoms of depression, and suicidal thoughts than those who don't vape nicotine or THC through electronic smoking devices. In addition, the symptoms of anxiety were more frequently reported among those who only vape THC, the major psychoactive component in cannabis. And, over half of those who vape nicotine, THC, or both report experiencing symptoms of depression as opposed to only twenty-five percent who do not vape. This research from the American Heart Association reminds us of the dangers of vaping any substance. Parents, teach your kids to steward their bodies to God's glory. And, if their anxiety is overwhelming, point them to a competent Christian counselor.

Din cele peste 1200 de persoane care au participat la cercetare, doar 10% recunosc că nu se confruntă cu stări de anxietate, în timp ce una din 3 persoane resimte anxietatea cu intensitate. Aceste stări sunt mai frecvente în rândul persoanelor care au vârsta sub 40 de ani, iar unul dintre mecanismele care contribuie este neglijarea resursele personale și relaționale; grija față de rutinele de somn sau prioritizarea relațiilor de încredere, pe termen lung sunt câteva exemple. Sentimentele de singurătate, izolarea și provocările legate de a construi relații de lungă durată bazate pe încredere contribuie la accentuarea stărilor de anxietate. Episodul de astăzi este o discutie pragmatică alături de colega mea Gina Enache, despre cum afectează anxietatea viața de zi cu zi, dar mai ales despre practicile recomandate pentru gestionarea îngrijorărilor și a anxietății. Traversăm o situație nu tocmai roz. Pandemia ne-a pus pe pauză sau dacă nu ne-a pus, cu siguranță ne-a încetinit. Rafturile magazinelor sunt de mai bine de o săptămămână aproape goale, antreprenorii caută oportunități și resurse pentru a continua, informațiile sunt de cele mai multe ori amplificate de panică și confuzie, iar cea mai mare parte dintre noi, drept rezultat, se alege cu un bagaj plin de anxietăți, frici, panici șamd. Dar este asta calea de urmat? Este acest cerc vicios greu de rupt sau ignorat? E recomandat să ieși din el sau pierzi ceva dacă o faci? Mai important, este o situație de care trebuie să trecem sau prin care trebuie să trecem? Este despre feeling good sau getting better? Cum depășim momentul și cum trecem la acțiune? E totul atât de grav pe cât pare? Am încercat să răspund acestor întrebări alături de Hedi Hoka, psiholog doctor și autorul bestsellerului Iubesc să fiu femeie, unul dintre cei mai buni specialiști în domeniu pe care am reușit să-i cunosc de aproape, care este foarte conectat la tehnologie și la procesul de educare, mare fan al științei. Hedi este totodată și antreprenor și, printre altele, a pus bazele și conduce una dintre cele mai căutate grădinițe din Transilvania, grădinița Biobee din Cluj-Napoca. Pentru că este unul dintre oamenii de business direct afectați de COVID-19, am întrebat-o inclusiv ce ar trebui să facă un atreprenor în astfel de momente. Am întrebat chiar și cum ar trebui să comunice acum brandurile din pucntul de vedere al psihologului, iar pe final aveți 3 minute de exercițiu de respirație pe care să-l practicați ori de câte ori simțiți nevoia. Este un interviu realizat la distanță, jumătate printr-o convorbire online, jumătate discuție telefonică. Logistica de înregistrare nu a fost tocmai de partea mea. Discuția este pentru toată lumea, iar dintre ideile principale eu mi-am notat: Stresul de acum este generat de incertitudine pentru că sutem forțați să stăm în starea de prezent, dar stresul nu este întotdeauna un lucru rău. Anxietățile apar pe fondul incertitudinilor. Instinctele de bază sunt cele care încearcă să preia controlul acum și să ne ghideze. Trebuie să trecem prin situație, nu peste ea. Scopul nostru pe Pămînt este evoluția, iar evoluâie fără durere nu există. Rutina ne salvează și ne ajută să găsim resurse pentru a continua. Avem nevoie de ea cu atît mai mult cu cât activitatea noastră fie se desfășoară acasa în autoziloare sau carantină. Urmărirea contiuă a știrilor nu este cel mai bun lucru pe care îl poți face pentru tine. O minte care o grămadă de lucruri de procesat nu face altceva decât să alimenteze anxietăți. Mintea are rolul să gândească, dar să nu credem tot ce gândim în aceste zile. Creierul nostru se agață de orice informație care induce stare de alertă sau panică. Ajutorul oferit unul altuia este unul dintre lucrurile bune pe care le putem face chiar și pentru noi. De fiecare dată cînd ajutăm pe cineva, ne ajutăm pe noi înșine. Spălatul pe mâini este cel mai bun exercițiu de mindfullness. A fi antreprenor înseamnă toleranță la incertitudine și schimbare. Antreprenorii ar trebui să fie experți la a rezolva probleme. Lecția pe care ar trebui să o învățăm din această perioadă este umanitatea, lucru pe care incluisv brandurile ar trebui să-l înțeleagă și să-l adopte.
