[10:42] Reading this book and realizing that he could get better at things, instantly started his journey of personal development at 19 years old. [12:42] When Michael was 21, he met Jim Rohn who mentored him. Michael realized that he had to be all of him to get what he wanted. [13:03] He became obsessed with personal development, books, and tapes. [14:42] Michael shares the time when he stopped fighting for what he wanted and started working hard for what he wanted. [17:38] Michael shares how he decided to stop drinking. He didn't want to enable others to drink. [21:09] More energy has been the most positive impact of stopping drinking for Michael. [22:50] People in recovery are attracted to Michael because he's going to hold them accountable to help them, and he offers a solution after recovery. [24:39] Start with figuring out what your definition of success is. You can have what you want, you just have to figure out what the price tag is. [26:08] Our capacity is always bigger. Continue learning and continue growing. [28:57] We all have an average inside of what we do. We need to learn how to raise what our average is. Average sucks because we live our average more than anything else. [29:38] When we raise our average to be what we would like it to be, our lives instantly get easier. [30:04] Michael breaks down limiting beliefs and how everyone says never again. Changing how we see ourselves is what really changes lives. We change our identity. [31:45] Our average is our identity, and the people we want and don't want in our lives. Limiting beliefs and how we identify. [34:22] Our identity is so powerful because our subconscious minds believe them. Identity and roles need to shift and change. [37:22] Michael shares stories of how his book has helped people. [38:57] How many things have you been lying to yourself about that aren't true and that are actually limits that you put on yourself? [41:51] Michael answers why it took him so long to figure it out. He didn't understand. He realized he was making decisions based on past choices. [44:22] Change the language for real change. [49:34] If people have better options, they will try better solutions. During this episode of the Lab Coat Agents Podcast, Jeff  is interviewing Michael Bernoff, the author of the book called, Average Sucks. He is a neuro-linguistic and language patterns specialist, among many other things. Today's episode is special because Jeff and Michael are going to reveal the secret about how to get past average!   Episode Highlights:  Michael understands real estate really well because he is an investor. He shares about his background and motivation to succeed. His parents always told him to work hard and be a good person. Michael studied the behavior of humans; His background in psychotherapy analysis and neurolinguistic programming helped him to understand what makes people do the things they do. There are two reasons we procrastinate: 1) We think we are perfectionists and we are actually just procrastinating playing the part of a perfectionist and 2) A language pattern you use wires your brain to respond in a particular way. Your biggest challenge is your average, it dominates every single thing in your life. What happens when we develop an average for ourselves?  What if you stop looking at what others do best and start looking at yourself? Talking about real estate, Jeff inquires, “I would like to know what is one of the biggest objections or the things that you feel like an average real-estate agent needs to overcome to get to another level?” Michael suggests, “In order to get where you want to go, one of the first things you should do is look in the mirror and ask yourself a very simple question - Are you where you want to be?” Michael recommends, “Do not beat yourself and accept you are not where you want to be. If you want to change, you have to like yourself.” In order to step out of the average mindset, people should figure out, “What was their original reason for making money?” Michael explains how he has worked through this question. Jeff  asks, “How do you keep somebody from talking themselves out of what they're capable of doing?” Michael shares tips on how to redefine what a person's real average is. What is the one thing you do more than anything in the world all day long?  Jeff and Michael discuss hacking your brain by evaluating what you do automatically and how to change the patterns. Michael has worked with about 50,000 real estate mortgage people, and over the years, the results people have received are amazing. Michael guarantees that participants of the Average Sucks Challenge will get more done in five days than they have in five months. In this week's episode of the Average Sucks podcast, I sat down with Slade and Diane Carlson, owners of Core Chiropractic Arizona. Before Slade and Diane launched their practice, they were at a loss about how they would be able to work together. They wanted to find a way to make the relationship become something that grows in their lives. Each of them had a bustling career of their own. Slade was working on his radio show while Diane was busy with her career as a chiropractor. They've had a brief relationship before Slade moved to San Diego and took part in the Core Strength Experience course. After a year, they've reunited again and Diane found significant changes in Slade. He was now better at communicating, more relaxed. Whereas in the past, he used to run away so much. It's evident that Core made Slade better at communicating what he thinks and feels, sparking the chain reaction of them they were able to get married, open up a practice, get it in operation, and move twice all for the sake of the relationship they've decided to build. In our conversation, Slade and Diane share the secrets behind successfully working together with your spouse. They give helpful recommendations such as switching one's mood to help separate relationship issues from work as well as the effective communication methods everyone must learn to do in every relationship. It's true, trauma can prevent you from achieving GREATER THINGS IN LIFE. When something bad happens to someone, they have a choice.  They can either use it as a motivator to succeed...or get sucked up in the trap of avoidance, addiction and a life full of twists and turns down roads going nowhere. Bad day at work? Eat junk. Things with the spouse are getting rocky? Drink. Can't cope with the loss of a loved one? Take a few pills. People that have experienced pain and trauma often have unhealthy ways of dealing with the hurt...and they often times walk day in and day out faking it...masking the pain and sadness. And why? Because hiding is easier than dealing with the pain. That's exactly what my guest, Theo Fleury, did for many years.  While maintaining what looked like a functioning life on the outside, even while playing in the NHL, Theo filled his life with bad decisions, addictions and chaos.  In my podcast this week you'll hear this really cool conversation I had with Theo, former NHL player and author of “Playing with Fire.” He's an advocate-turned-activist who spent years fighting for mental health and addiction.
