It's a massive weekend in Cork GAA with the hurlers hosting Tipperary in a sold-out league final.SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh will be packed but was it the right call to make it a double-header with Offaly v Waterford in Division 1B, given the interest in the Faithful County? Home advantage might help the Rebels on the pitch come Sunday but it hasn't proved much use in terms of securing tickets. It's hard to be overly critical of GAA for putting the Páirc in the spotlight in a contest that will generate an electric atmosphere but that's scant consolation to the fans who won't get to go. The Munster Championship matches also go on sale this week and all four games with Cork will most likely sell, out. Stand tickets are being distributed through the clubs but interest is at its highest since the mid-noughties.We preview the final and make the case for Cork bridging a long gap since their last league success in 1998.We also discuss the minor and U20 action last week and how regularly red cards are now being flashed for what looks like minimal contact, which saw Barry O'Flynn and Ben Walsh dismissed against Clare. The footballers are in championship action on Saturday, heading to Limerick to face Division 4 league winners Limerick who will relish the underdogs tag. Cork ended their league with a decent bit of momentum though and should have enough to set up a Munster semi-final in the Páirc on Easter Saturday with Division 1 champs Kerry. We look at the U20 football squad ahead of their provincial opener and round up the latest in the league after three games across the seven divisions. Interview by Kris PetersSince forming in High School in Scranton back in 2005, Pennsylvania rock outfit Tigers Jaw have ridden a steady trajectory through the ranks, culminating in the success of their most recent album, 2021s I Won't Care How You Remember Me.Brought up and fed on a diet of local DIY punk outfits, Tigers Jaw have gone through a number of line-up changes, with Ben Walsh being the only surviving original member, having played every instrument from drums to bass to guitar to singing with the band. Now, with a settled line-up and growing reputation, Tigers Jaw are set to land in Australia in the coming weeks for a supporting slot to Sly Withers on his upcoming Australian tour.Walsh sat down with HEAVY to discuss the details."There's lots to do to get ready for an international tour," he began. "I feel like mentally I'm almost there, and I'm just figuring out what to bring, because here right now it's very hot. We get there in Winter for this tour so I have to figure out what to pack (laughs)."Touring and playing is one thing, but a trip so far away from home is also a mentally draining commitment, so we press Walsh on how he prepares for that side of things."Early on in touring we were 18,19,20 years old and it was a lot easier to just pick up and leave and not really worry about it too much," he smiled. "As we get into our 30s there's more stability at home and it's a little bit tougher to make sure everything's in order. The mental preparation is a little more intense as we get older. There's just as much excitement, but there's just more responsibilities to get in order before we take off."In the full interview, Ben tells us what to expect from Tigers Jaw's shows, the two acoustic performances and how they will approach them, the history of Tigers Jaw and what the early days were like, when the band decided to get serious, how the DIY punk scene helped shape their future, how his vision for Tiger's Jaw has changed over the years, new material and more.

In every organization, company, or community, in order to thrive, achieve goals, and make change possible, understanding and collaboration, is needed. To be honest, black people, especially males, are treated differently by law enforcement and society. We are feared for reasons we don’t understand. This fear of black people has been going on for a very long time and is completely getting out of hand. It’s time that we put a stop to this history of violence and oppression. But how? Where should one start? How do we even make others aware of all of this when they’re not willing to take a look? How do we bring this issue to the table? As a white brother or sister, how can you be a part of this change? Join me in this episode, as we talk to people, whom I consider my allies in the financial industry — Sonya Dreizler, Justin Castelli, and Jason Wenk. They are all successful financial professionals who are empowering people to do their best with what they have, to live the life they deserve. In this conversation, we talk about allyship, empathy, the importance of racial justice, and why we need to talk about racial issues now and the role of white people on behalf of the black community. They also share their honest thoughts on what they felt and where they stand on this current situation we’re facing. We also talk about solutions and suggestions on how to take real action for people of color inside and outside the workplace. If you really want to be a part of this movement of change and break the systemic racism in this country, start by listening to this episode. I encourage you to step up into action so that we can all move forward towards a brighter future where we are all collaboratively thriving. Highlights: >> Our allies thoughts on the recent events that unfolded recently in our country >> Where do you fit in as an ally and how can you become a part of this change? >> Why it matters that people need to listen to this issue we’re facing right now? Why should people take a second look? >> Expanding your knowledge and awareness of what’s really happening >> The importance of racial justice and the role of white people in all of these issues >> The negative overrepresentation of media to the black community >> Brief history of the racial inequality in the United States >> Feeling empathy, regrets, and addressing mistakes >> Micro and Macro Action: measures we can do to help propel change and how to start? >> Listening, understanding then collaborating >> Suggested solutions for a more inclusive and diverse workplace Resources: >> Sonya Dreizler’s Social Media LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/sdreizler) Twitter @SonyaDreizler (https://twitter.com/SonyaDreizler/status/1266071363506200576) Solutions with Sonya (https://www.solutionswithsonya.com/) >> Financial Services Has a Racism Problem (https://www.solutionswithsonya.com/news/2020/5/27/financial-services-has-a-racism-problem) >> Justin Castelli LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/justincastelli) Twitter @just10castelli (https://twitter.com/jus10castelli) Justin Castelli - website (https://justincastelli.io/) RLS Wealth Management (https://rlswm.com/) >> Jason Wenk’s Social Media LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jasonwenk) Twitter @jasonwenk (https://twitter.com/jasonwenk) Altruist (http://altruist.com) Jason Wenk - website (https://www.jasonwenk.com/) Jason Wenk’s blog (https://medium.com/@jason.wenk) >> Additional resources to expand your Knowledge about racism, racial justice, and what’s really happening to the black community: Revision for History: GCSE Modern World History by Ben Walsh and Wayne Birks...
It is appalling that after all these years, racism is still rampant in our society. Some are blissfully blind that it still exists and those who are aware but don’t know what to do just choose to remain silent. Can we even put a stop to something that’s been happening for the past 400 years? As hard as it may seem, there is always something that we can do! In this episode, I am joined by 3 women CFPs — Angela Moore, Chloé Moore, and Lauryn Williams, who all worked hard to get to where they are and have successfully built their own financial firms despite the struggles they had to go through. We talk about their experiences and perspective on what it’s like when you’re the only black or brown person in the room and a woman at that. They share also their thoughts on the #BLM movement, having a voice, allyship, and what it means to have a seat at the table. If you want to support your black and brown brothers, sisters, friends, and people of color, then I encourage you to listen to this episode so that you have a general view of what it’s like to be in their shoes. Highlights: >> Thoughts on the events taking place in the US, particularly on racism >> Helping other people be aware of what’s really happening around us >> Racism, sexism, and prejudiced experiences of people of colors in the workplace >> Silent racism encounters >> Getting your intelligence questioned because of the color of your skin and how you look >> What it feels like to be the only black person and a woman in the room? >> How can we change the way black women and minorities, in general, are treated in the financial industry and in other fields >> #BLM is more than a hashtag Resources: >> Angela Moore's Social Media LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/angelamooremma) Modern Money Advisor (https://www.modernmoneyadvisor.com/) Instagram @modernmoneyadvisor (http://instagram.com/modernmoneyadvisor) >> Chloé Moore's Social Media LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/chloemoore) Twitter @finstaples (https://twitter.com/finstaples) Facebook @finstaples (http://facebook.com/finstaples) Financial Staples (http://www.financialstaples.com/) >> Lauryn William's Social Media LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/lauryn-williams) Lauryn’s Personal Website (http://www.lauryn-williams.com) Worth Winning (https://www.worth-winning.com/) >> Revision for History: GCSE Modern World History by Ben Walsh and Wayne Birks (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Revision-History-Modern-World-Guides/dp/0719572290) >> The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander (https://www.amazon.com/New-Jim-Crow-Incarceration-Colorblindness/dp/1595586431) >> Black Wall Street: From Riot to Renaissance in Tulsa's Historic Greenwood District by Hannibal B. For almost 90 years, the enormous oil company Saudi Aramco has been in the hands of the Saudi Royal family. In this episode, Avi Salzman joins guest-host Ben Walsh to discuss whether the oil company is really that valuable. Produced by Mette Lützhøft.
For a supposedly obsolete idea, the checkbook still holds a lot of power. It remains the gateway to Americans' money. Big tech companies want in on the party, but traditional banks have proven surprisingly resilient when it comes to these customer relationships. On the other side of the globe, a corruption scandal has been rocking Malaysia for years involving a multi-billion government fund from which billions of dollars have gone missing. The fund, known as 1Malaysia Development Berhad, or 1MDB, was supposed to fund government-backed infrastructure projects, but investigators say it was instead used for the personal benefits of individuals, including the country's previous prime minister, Najib Razak. The money was allegedly used to buy a number of lavish and unique items, including a $250 million yacht, backing for the film The Wolf of Wall Street, diamond studded tiaras and a see-through piano for the model Miranda Kerr. This week, authorities in Malaysia filed criminal charges against Goldman Sachs, alleging the bank made false and misleading statements connected to work it did for the fund. The bank has denied wrongdoing and says it is cooperating. To explain the complex story, Money Talking's Charlie Herman spoke with Ben Walsh, reporter for Barron's, and Peter Eavis of The New York Times about 1MBD and Goldman Sachs involvement. A host of digital start-ups have gotten a lot of attention in recent years for using technology to improve investing and democratize finance. Companies like Robinhood have targeted younger investors with commission-free stock trades. That's a compelling offer-but sometimes the offers are a little too compelling. Last week Robinhood announced it was offering a new checking and savings account with 3% interest. That's way higher than anything offered by banks. But there's a catch. This week on The Readback, Alex Eule talks with reporter Ben Walsh about his recent story on Robinhood.

Then we get into how he started in music, including his ska roots; embarrassing early recordings and demos that Ben Walsh from Tigers Jaw still holds onto; why the challenging recording of “The Future Is Cancelled” almost ended the band and what saved them; how Captain, We’re Sinking’s next album is coming along with the support of Run for Cover Records; the history and importance of the annual NEPA Holiday Show and the arts program it raises money for; why he believes the Scranton music scene has produced so many successful bands and the ups and downs of the local scene; enjoying his work as a substitute teacher, except when kids recognize him from his band; the worst and most ridiculous shows he has ever played; his family’s private talent shows, competitiveness, and cool younger cousin; and joining his brother Greg Barnett (vocalist and guitarist of The Menzingers) for their first-ever acoustic tour in the U.K. next year.
