Some people just seem to have many giftings, and Archbishop Allen Wiggins is one of them. He is a serious musician, playing the saxophone. He is a pharmacist, and worked in that field for several years. The son of a pastor, he followed his Dad's path into ministry, and leads The Hope Church. Bishop Wiggins has a heart for underserved and disenfranchised communities. In this episode, he shares some stories of inspiration and faith.
doubleVee was put into motion in 2012 when it became clear how Allan Vest and Barb [Hendrickson] Vest's musical backgrounds complemented each other and how well the two worked together in the studio. The pair married in October of 2015 and went on to release their debut album in 2017. Allan was the primary songwriter, lead vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist for indie/orchestral pop band Starlight Mints, having produced and released four albums between 2000 and 2009, with legendary producer Dave Sardy co-producing the critically acclaimed debut album, The Dream that Stuff was Made Of. Major motion pictures and television series have utilized his music, with TV shows including Malcolm in the Middle, Californication, One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl and movies including Barnyard and The Art of Getting By. The BBC mini-series Demons effectively used "Eyes of the Night" off the 2006 album Drowaton as the series' theme song. Allan's instrumental scores have been featured in Disney animated shorts, writer/director Mickey Reece's movies Seducers Club and Punch Cowboy, in projects by Canada-based writer/director Erahm Christopher, and features helmed by director Bradley Beesley, among other productions. He has produced and arranged music for clients including Francine, Skating Polly, Student Film and Bishop Allen. He also composed the theme music for the podcast In Sickness and In Health. Barb's diverse background includes sixteen years in public radio where her achievements included writing, hosting, and producing Filmscapes, a nationally syndicated film music program. Filmscapes gave her the opportunity to interview some of her favorite renowned artists including Danny Elfman and Philip Glass. While Barb's vocal music history includes appearing in themed cover shows and providing backing vocals on recordings for local bands, her love of music began with her family, with her grandmother regularly putting a tape recorder on her piano bench and singing along to her original compositions, before she passed away in 1986 after a sudden heart attack at the age of 57. Allan and Barb later orchestrated and added backing vocals to one of her grandmother's songs as a gift for her mother, who ensured music was a big part of her daughters' lives from a very young age. doubleVee's debut album The Moonlit Fables of Jack the Rider was released on February 10, 2017. The concept album follows the story of the title character, with his tales being told in a theatrical style with Jack at the handlebars. He's a traveler who descends into a world reminiscent of The Twilight Zone where nothing is exactly as it seems, with pieces of his history unfolding over the course of the album. Their follow-up EP Songs for Birds and Bats was released April 12, 2019. The five-song release concluded with Last Castaways, selected the next year to be featured on the soundtrack for the immersive video game Beyond Blue. On July 15th, doubleVee released their new album Treat Her Strangely, nine new songs whose conception began during the height of the pandemic, with their new material written and recorded while staying holed up in their home studio as much as possible, attempting to keep themselves, their loved ones and others safe from the virus. doubleVee's info https://www.doublevee.net/ https://www.facebook.com/doubleVeeSongs doubleVee_band UC83QKD-z5ANKfhdoaGdce-A
Today in John Wesley's Journal, Vigilius waffles, the Moravians are innocent, we meet Bishop Allen, and, of course, John Wesley's Journal in which he takes his stand at Frederica.
Before becoming a religious leader, human rights activist, and entrepreneur, Bishop O.C. Allen III worked vigorously to gain access to prolific institutions - the ones that teach young men to be the best they can be. And despite loving these places and their overall mission, he quickly realized that these institutions accepted only part of him - rejecting portions of himself that were too special to hide. And after trying to fit in, he quickly found himself remodeling the walls of these ‘safe spaces,' instead painting them to the color of his own identity. In this season finale, listen as he explains how he was able to amplify his mission via The Vision Church - creating an inclusive environment that teaches others to lean into their vulnerability, turning it into a superpower – one that encourages people to live in their truth, rather than die in a lie. Bishop Allen teaches us that the space within ourselves is the most important – because regardless of status, sexuality or circumstance, we are powerful and already enough, exactly as we are. Bishop Allen completed his undergraduate degree in Theology from the School of Theology at the University of the South, Sewanee. He was awarded a Master’s Degree in Theology and the Doctorate of Divinity from the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1991 and to the episcopate in 2001. Sermon from the 8:45am service on 12/8/19.
I just returned from my first Episcopal Revival. Started in 2017 in Pittsburgh, these revivals by the Episcopal Church are designed to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ in the language of the people and provide open space where we can share our stories about God.I attended a Billy Graham Crusade in Oklahoma City in 1983 and wondered if this new Episcopal Revival was going to be similar. Many aspects were with great Spirit-filled music and inspired preaching. However, the service ended differently in Honduras. In 1983 in Oklahoma City, the last song began to play and Mr. Graham announced an altar call—that anyone who was ready to commit their life to Christ could come forward where they would be taken off-stage and people would pray for their new-found commitment. I had joined a Southern Baptist Church a few years earlier and wasn’t moved to leave my seat on that particular night, but it was very emotional as many people went forward. As the local band started to play the last song in Honduras last week, I wondered if it was going to be the same “altar call”. Presiding Bishop Curry recognized Bishop Allen from Honduras and Bishop Allen instead requested that all his clergy come forward and stand in front of him on the stage. As the clergy made their way to the front, the band played softly in the background. When 50 or so clergy had come forward, Bishop Allen offered a different altar call in both Spanish and English: “If anyone today desires to be healed, I invite you to come forward where we will pray for you.”It was emotional for the 3000 attendees, and people began lining up before each clergy, six and eight deep to receive the laying on of hands and healing prayer.I was reminded of the story in the Gospel of John 5:6 where a disabled man had been an invalid for 38 years and was lying by a pool. When Jesus learned of the man’s infirmity he didn’t ask him if he was ready to commit his life to Christ. Instead he asked him, “Do you want to get well?” (¿Quieres ser sano?)Tears flowed as we admitted that we needed to be healed and moved forward to receive healing prayer.Blessings, my friend,Agatha

Sassy sprite Christian Owens, singer/guitarist of the awesome all-girl band Bad Girlfriend comes on down to share an EPIC tale of the "local benefit show for a dog gone horribly wrong." It's all the minutiae you love and loathe about playing local shows on the Lower East Side and then some, including talk of working for Cyndi Lauper, LL Cool J, and the birth of the Omnichord. There's a pound of mirth on this week's WORST GIG EVER!

Kindest Lines - Destructive Paths To Live Happily Initially it appears obvious Louisiana’s Kindest Lines delicious reverb heavy lo-fi sound is inhabited with the ghosts of early Joy Division and The Cure. But somewhere on their debut long player Covered in Dust they settle on a feminine draped sound that’s somewhat more individual. Somehow reassembling the dark post punk era and flecks it with hints at disco sound of the next decade. Read More: http://s.tt/12RRP 5. Oax - Love And Crashing After four years of heavy touring schedules with Bishop Allen and The Rosebuds, it was time to leave New York and head back South to his home of Houston, TX. Not the hippest city in the country, but that was sort of the point. What started as a open-ended hiatus from music and a venture into graduate school in architecture at Rice University, it didn’t take too long before Giorgio Angelini started writing music again. Oh, and there was a break-up, of course. What record worth it’s weight in wax hasn’t been seeded by a good ol’ fashioned heart ripping? Distance is, indeed, a killer.Oax is the result. The name coming from the seemingly endless canopy of live oak trees that covers Houston like a carpet. Not native to Houston, the trees were planted by early settlers as a way to provide shelter from the punishing Texas sun. And lucky enough, they managed to thrive like weeds in the swampy bayou soup of Houston soil. Read More: http://s.tt/12XSw 15. Laura Stevenson & The Cans - Master Of Art As some of the finest musicians Brooklyn has to offer, it’s hard to believe Laura Stevenson & The Canshaven’t achieved the epic fame their music demands. They can jump from subtle folk, to bluegrass, to rock, to punk and back again within the bat of an eyelid. Stevenson can manipulate her voice to sound kitsch and rabid at any one time; she can put out stars and light them back up again. I’d be unsurprised if she spends most of her time walking on her hands. One minute you’re listening to a leftfield take on acoustic music; the next you’re basked in a fervour that borders shouty, punchy hysteria. And it always works; there are never any flaws. Jonnie previously worked under the monniker Tiny Steps releasing records through the Fence Collective. A summerous collection of wondrously understated pop oddities, coming in at just over thirty minutes, at moments it understated charm reminds one of the quieter more modest moments of the National’s work.At others his twinkling instrumentals and quick fire, playful vocal ticks are wonderfully redolant of The Beta Band. Stream the entire album below. Read More: http://s.tt/12RGc 17. Inca Gold - Dark Moves After a well received debut EP, Inca Gold I in February, London four piece Inca Gold released the second in a triptych for 2011, Inca Gold II on 8th June on Color and Vision Records. Ethereal vocals? Check? Keyboard bleeps? Swirling Psychedelia? Yep Cinematic atmosphere!? Yes sirrreee…. The equation for Inca Gold‘s wide screen soundscapes could appear in a book about ‘how to surf the zeitgeist in 2011′s all too cluttered music scene.’ But wait their formula doesn’t contain pretension of MGMT, the blandness of the xx, or the sheer annoyance of The Naked or the Famous! Inca’s modest lilting, dreamy refrains ghost their way into your brain like half remembered dreams of the past. Read More: http://s.tt/12Qv4 18. Grant K Fennell -Three O'Clock Starting out on the live circuit aged just 13, Grant K. Fennell has meticulously climbed his way up the musical ladder, fusing with psych, ska, garage and folk troupes along his way. This isn’t because Fennell doesn’t want to shackle himself down to the restrictions of a singular genre – it is simply because he can’t. With tastes and influences as extensive as his (Flaming Lips, Nick Drake, Mastodon, Frank Zappa, Animal Collective, Van Morrison, Coheed and Cambria, Kate Bush, Queens of the Stone Age), Grant’s music is a sedimentary of sounds, with layers of prog, folk rock, hardcore, desert rock, country, even blaxploitation, forming the musical force that he is. Playlist 1) Musica Da Cucina “Briciole Sul Tavolo” 2) Bishop Allen “Rain” 3) The Calorifer Is Very Hot “Wocko” 4) Hercules & Love Affair “Blind (feat. Antony)” 5) Shout Out Louds “Normandie” http://nomoreclouds.blogspot.com http://www.indieforbunnies.com http://www.myspace.com/mattatoyocultureclub
