Neil Marshall & Liz Farahadi on short film-making, short film festival submissions, SohoLIFF and making their short film 'Keep Young and Beautiful'

Joining us today is the directing great Neil Marshall (Dog Soildiers, The Decent) and the inspiring actress and producer Liz Farahadi to talk about SHORT film making, the things that can go wrong, why they are important, why planning is vital and how you always need to be ready to adapt. AND their short film Keep Young and Beautiful. We also talk applying for film festivals, why you might or might got get selected, producing short films, what goes into them and the difference between shorts and features for directors. Neil burst onto the scene and punched us all in the face with the cult werewolf action-horror classic "Dog Soldiers" and then, he plunged us into true claustrophobic terror with "The Descent" a film that won critical acclaim and cemented his status as a master of modern horror. He then unleashed the post-apocalyptic action mayhem of "Doomsday" and the brutal historical epic "Centurion,". More recently, he directed the period horror "The Reckoning" and the creature feature "The Lair." And it's not just features! He's brought his distinctive, cinematic vision to some of the biggest TV shows out there, directing two of the most epic battle episodes in "Game of Thrones" history – "Blackwater" and "The Watchers on the Wall" – which earned him an Emmy nomination. He's also helmed episodes of "Black Sails," "Constantine," "Hannibal," "Westworld," and "Lost in Space. And also joining us today, we have an incredible talent in Liz Farahadi, who truly embodies the spirit of independent filmmaking: an accomplished actress and a dedicated producer who champions diverse voices and impactful stories. You might know her from her acting roles in compelling independent films like "Losing Grace" (where she also served as a producer) and "Wild Bones," as well as various theatre productions and commercials. She's also had roles in the well-loved British soaps, "EastEnders" and "Coronation Street," along with other dramas like "Two Thousand Acres of Sky," "Miss Marple," and "Doctor Who. She's a passionate advocate for filmmakers, recognizing the need for support, especially for those from marginalized backgrounds. This drive led her to found and direct The Soho London Independent Film Festival (SohoLIFF), a fantastic platform dedicated to creating opportunities and celebrating films with social and environmental impact. She's currently in post-production on new short films like "Losing Grace" and "Daughter," and developing features like "Xenos" and "Polly." Her latest film as an actress and producer, "Keep Young & Beautiful," delves into the darker world of beauty standards with a powerful and humorous edge. The Secret Safety Net We Pretend Doesn't ExistYou can live your whole life in this country without ever seeing the crawlspace you're standing on. America has always flirted with the idea of a safety net — food assistance, cheap clinics, housing vouchers — but never enough to make it real in daylight. Try to codify a European-style welfare system here and you'll run headlong into the one thing voters agree on: taxes feel like theft. Better dead than red, they used to say. They meant it.So we build a workaround instead. We keep Dad's “no free rides” sign nailed to the fridge, but Mom slips you a folded twenty when he's not looking. The churches, the Peace Corps, the food pantries, the “private” non-profits — all humming on the hush-hush drip of federal dollars and tax breaks we pretend are charity. It's a black market of democratic socialism. A secret fridge in the basement that keeps half the family fed without ever saying the word “entitlement.”To the 30% — the Zohran Mamdanis, the real social democrats — this basement is roses. Proof America still has a heart, even if it beats in the dark. But to the other 70% — the Iron Dad bloc — it's mold. Moral decay. The smell of other people's laziness rotting the beams you paid for with your sweat. Same fridge, same kids on the futon. Roses for you, rot for them. This is the contradiction that can't last forever. The workaround lives or dies by the lease. If Congress won't pass it, if the people won't vote for it, it survives by executive order alone — one pen stroke away from erasure every four years. And the next Iron Dad always comes. Trump wasn't the first to smell mold in the basement. He's just the one who walked in with the crowbar and the mandate to rip it to the studs. And when the landlord — the people — say “Tear it out,” you don't get to complain that you never filed the permit. But don't fool yourself: not every rose down there is real. When you push your mercy off the books, you hire mercenaries to run it. Just like soldiers cost pennies but Blackwater costs a thousand a day, your shadow social safety net runs on grift. CEOs who skim millions while calling it charity. “Community organizers” who bleed admin fees and grant padding. Plastic roses dusted with rosewater, all fed by tax dollars disguised as donations nobody voted for honestly. So now the mother's purse is empty. The fridge hums until the inspector unplugs it. The basement you pretended didn't exist is a tear-down lot waiting for the bulldozer. And the only question left is this: do you want the roses in the front yard — real, alive, funded in daylight — or do you want the mold ripped out by force every time the next Iron Dad calls the inspector?Vote for it. Pay for it. Tax yourself with your eyes open. Or stand barefoot on the dirt and pretend you're free while you shiver. The basement was never free. And it never stays hidden forever.

Best-selling author of “One Nation Under Blackmail”, Whitney Webb, is back to discuss her latest article on the covert moves that are being made by one of the most polarizing figures in recent American history, Erik Prince. While his former company Blackwater underwent multiple rebrandings to attempt to remove the bloodstains from the carpet in the lobby, Prince was busy launching new ventures from his home base in the United Arab Emirates, such as Comframe and Dark Matter, which seek to help the Chinese acquire technology from Israel to assist with its Belt and Road Initiative. While China attempts to rebuild the fabled Silk Road to connect the world together, the United Nations is busy devising new ways in which to destroy it. Using the imagined threat of “climate change” as the new invisible enemy, the UN's Sustainable Development Goals are leading the world into a digital panopticon where the public is treated as fenced livestock and the Globalists are the only ones with the keys. If The Battle of Algiers looms large, so does Parable of the Sower, especially the show's landscape of authoritarian company towns and the simmering hints of a revolutionary break. They talk about the Preox-Morlana security force as East India Company meets Blackwater, and Deputy Inspector Syril Karn as the story's omnipresent archetype—the insecure man desperate to matter. Aaron Beam discusses Red Fang's new collection and two decades of riff-driven sludge metal, plus Justin Benlolo of BRKN Love joins the show TL;DR This week on the Loaded Radio Podcast, Aaron Beam from Red Fang joins us to celebrate the band's 20th anniversary and discuss the release of their latest collection, Deep Cuts. Beam dives into the band's beginnings, the process of assembling rare tracks, and the inspiration behind Red Fang's unrelenting sound. Later in the episode, Justin Benlolo of BRKN Love drops in to talk about the band's ongoing evolution and the exciting plans ahead. Red Fang reflect on two decades of sludge-soaked greatness Formed in 2005 in Portland, Oregon, Red Fang carved out a distinct place in the modern heavy scene with their gritty, hook-laden sludge metal. Over the last 20 years, they've delivered one crushing release after another, gaining a reputation for both their anthemic riffs and their offbeat sense of humor. Now, Aaron Beam and the rest of Red Fang mark their 20th year with Deep Cuts — a sprawling 26-track release packed with non-album tracks, covers, demos, and hidden gems. It's a celebration of the band's journey so far, offering longtime fans a treasure trove of rarely heard material that still captures the raw, unfiltered energy Red Fang are known for. On the latest episode of the Loaded Radio Podcast, Beam opens up about the creation of Deep Cuts, shares reflections on the early days of jamming in drummer John Sherman's basement, and talks about what it feels like to still be making music together two decades later. Deep Cuts offers a full throttle dive into Red Fang's evolution From the thunderous opening riff of “Antidote” to the atmospheric shifts of tracks like “Hollow Light” and “Endless Sea,” Deep Cuts showcases the full range of Red Fang's capabilities. Beam notes that the collection captures the oddities, covers, and experimental moments that have fueled the band's evolution over the years. Highlights include their gritty renditions of Wipers' “Over the Edge” and Dust's “Suicide,” as well as fan-favorite deep cuts like “Stereo Nucleosis” and “Black Water.” It's a wild ride through the different textures and tones that have shaped Red Fang's career — from straight-up sludge anthems to more experimental, synth-laced jams. Beam also reflects on how his own musical journey — and the shared history with bandmates Bryan Giles, David Sullivan, and John Sherman — continues to push Red Fang's sound forward even after 20 years. Justin Benlolo of BRKN Love joins the conversation The second half of this week's podcast features Justin Benlolo, the dynamic frontman of BRKN Love. Benlolo and Loaded Radio's Scott Penfold dig into the band's unique blend of hard rock and alternative influences, their songwriting process, and their ambitions as they continue building momentum within the modern rock landscape. With new music and major tour plans on the horizon, BRKN Love are positioning themselves as one of the exciting young acts keeping heavy music alive in a constantly evolving scene.

It's News Day Tuesday! Sam & Emma break down the biggest headlines of the day. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on Elon Musk's attacks on US federal workers, Mike Johnson's determination to cut Medicaid, an impending GOP-led government shutdown, dropping consumer sentiment, FDA actions to undo Musk & DOGE dumbassery, Blackwater's private ICE posse, DoorDash's millions in theft, Trump's attacks on whistleblower protections, the VA, and Trump's support for Russia, before basking in the beauty of Missouri Rep Mark Alford's obsequious support for the Musk/Trump regime getting drowned out by countless enraged constituents (despite Alford's unsurprising and unsubstantiated claims of outside agitators). After expanding on the need for Democrats to hold the line in refusing Trump's absurd power grabs and the GOP's disastrous budget plans – and how to call your representative to make sure they stay strong – Sam and Emma dive deep into the GOP's ongoing push to make devastating and extensive cuts to Medicaid, dissecting how this move targets the victims of the supposed “waste, fraud, and abuse” Mike Johnson and Co claim to be going after, and watch former NJ Rep Tom Malinowski obliterate Kevin O'Leary's ridiculous claim that Elon and Trump are completing the first audit of the US government in years. Wrapping up, they touch on David Dayen's recent piece “The Coup Has Failed,” and why we should find hope in the US public's overwhelming pushback to Trump's attempts to consolidate his power and punish his enemies. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma answer some of your questions about Ukraine, unpack the Trump/Musk regime's devastating impact on the US economy, explore the extensive reach of Trump's attack on federal workers, and talk with Cal from Rochester about the pre- and post-ACA Medicaid experience. Ronald Raygun expands the conversation on Russia and Ukraine, Max from South Carolina tackles SC's devastating GOP trifecta, the US government comes for queer people's IDs, and Milo Yiannopolis (or, perhaps, Jake from Dallas) shares some thoughts with the show. PBD goes to bat for his potential comrade-in-coups Jair Bolsonaro, and Nicholas from Michigan adds to the Medicaid experience, plus, your calls and IMs!
