In this episode, we unpack the long road to the Iraq War, from the 1953 CIA-backed coup in Iran and U.S. support for Saddam Hussein during the Iran–Iraq War to Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, the Gulf War, sanctions, weapons inspections, and the Bush administration's false claims about weapons of mass destruction. We dig into how 9/11 reshaped U.S. foreign policy, how figures tied to PNAC pushed for regime change, and how intelligence around WMDs, yellowcake uranium, and Curveball helped sell the 2003 invasion of Iraq. We also cover shock and awe, Abu Ghraib, torture, Halliburton, Blackwater, civilian deaths, veteran trauma, and the trillions of dollars lost in a war that destabilized the region and left behind questions that still have not been answered.
PART III AVAILABLE NOW, AD-FREE, ON PATREON!This week we're revisiting one of the wildest and most disturbing cases we've ever covered: the abductions of Jan Broberg. This re-release is part two of our three-part investigative series exploring the disturbing patterns shared between the stories of Sally Horner, Jan Broberg, and the character known as "Lolita" or "Dolly" in the infamous novel Lolita.Make sure to check out last week's episode first, TSFU Ep. 187 - KIDNAPPED: Sally Horner & The Real Story Behind Lolita (Part I), where Ash told the story of Sally Horner, the real child whose 1948 kidnapping would later echo inside Nabokov's controversial novel. In the final installment of this series, we'll put all three stories side by side and expose the shared blueprint of authority, grooming, isolation, social camouflage, narrative control, and public misunderstanding that links them.Originally released in 2022, this episode dives into the case made famous by Netflix's documentary Abducted in Plain Sight. Ash told Cam about how trusted family friend Robert Berchtold groomed not just Jan, but her entire family... before abducting her at ages 12 and 14.The deeper you look, the more unbelievable it gets: secret affairs with both of Jan's parents, manipulation of an entire community, and a predator who managed to convince nearly everyone around him that he should be trusted. Berchtold had been abusing young girls since he was a child himself, and the adults around him repeatedly enabled it.TW: For everything mentioned above... this is an upsetting topic that I found very difficult to research, make sure to take care of yourselves
In this episode, host Mark Ledlow is joined by Robert Lamm, a Montana rancher, Marine veteran, and security professional they met on a confidential Northern California disaster project. Robert recounts joining the Marine Corps in 1999, deploying with 2/1 and a special-operations-capable unit, then serving in a security platoon supporting special operations across Southeast Asia, Afghanistan, and Iraq. After leaving the Marines, he guided hunts, then entered State Department contracting with Blackwater and Triple Canopy, later working nearly 10 years in Afghanistan, including base security, threat assessments, and training local nationals; he describes attacks, a VBIED blast injury, and concerns about TBI. He discusses executive protection work, industry backstabbing, and the importance of networking and teamwork. Now lead instructor at Tactic MT and director of training for Veterans Covert Protection Group, he focuses on mindset, firearms safety, soft skills, and raising security standards amid COVID, unrest, and ammo shortages.Learn about all this and more in this episode of The Fearless Mindset Podcast.KEY TAKEAWAYSSecurity industry success depends on networking and consistent performance - every detail is an interviewTeamwork and supporting colleagues during difficult times is essential in high-stress environmentsMindset determines survival - refusing to "go quietly" and maintaining mental resilience is criticalThe security industry needs to evolve beyond 1980s-90s standards with better training and professionalismTraining should cover both hard skills (firearms) and soft skills (communication, medical, client service)Families and clients increasingly want consistency in security personnel rather than constant turnoverAmericans need to take personal responsibility for their safety and not rely solely on authoritiesLiving each day as if it's your last is both a strength and challenge for veterans transitioning to civilian lifeReal security training must include mindset preparation, not just technical skillsUnity and helping each other matters more than political divisionsQUOTES"You're only as good as your last detail" - on reputation in executive protection"Your network is your net worth in this industry""Every firearm made is to kill another person easier than they can kill you" - on honest mindset training"One mind, any weapon" - Marine Corps philosophy on adaptability"If any politician's mouth is moving, he's lying""It boils down to your team - that's what you're really there for""We've gone from love to hate" - on social media and division"I'm not gonna go quietly" - on survival mindset"If you don't have the mindset, all you're doing is learning to sport shoot""We're social creatures - they're playing us from both sides"Get to know more about Robert Lamm through the links below.https://www.linkedin.com/in/eddiegarciava/To hear more episodes of The Fearless Mindset podcast, you can go to https://the-fearless-mindset.simplecast.com/ or listen on major podcasting platforms such as Apple, Google Podcasts, Spotify, etc. You can also subscribe to the Fearless Mindset YouTube Channel to watch episodes on video.
From the Feb, 26th Rumble Live Stream!Dugan Bridges was unable to join us, but I am leaving the links to his work in case you would like to check it out.The gunfight at Blackwater Draw made Billy Bonney infamous, but a single newspaper helped decide how he would be remembered. Long before radio, television, or social media, legal labels like outlaw, lawman, and criminal were often assigned after the fact by those with the power to tell the story. Filmmaker Dugan Bridges investigates how power, corruption, and competing narratives shaped the story of Billy Bonney, revealing how journalism can expose injustice — or just as easily entrench it. In Dugan Bridges' new documentary, Blackwater Draw: The Making of Billy the Kid, Bridges examines how journalism shapes the first draft of history and how truth can be left behind when reporting hardens into legend. Dugan Bridges joins me to discuss Blackwater Draw and the themes that are just as timely today as they were for Billy the Kid.The situation in Iran continues to spiral as the US military builds up its presence in the region, the Iranian regime continues to posture, and the people of Iran continue to suffer.
In this episode of the Defence Connect Podcast, senior journalist Robert Dougherty is joined by Trevor Fortner, a former US Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal specialist, Blackwater PMC contractor and current EverydaySpy consultant. Fortner has formerly served as a US Navy EOD master training specialist and operated alongside Tier 1 units, including SEAL Team Six and Delta Force. The intelligence, preparation and leadership required for high-risk capture missions, such as the recent US actions in Venezuela. Public misconceptions surrounding private military contractors and how the industry has evolved since Iraq and Afghanistan. The military strategy shift towards network-centric warfare, artificial intelligence-enabled decision making and industrial resilience. The US military's renewed focus on standards, accountability and the resurgence of "warrior culture". PART II ALREADY OUT ON PATREON! IT'S AD-FREE, AND THERE'S A TON OF OTHER GREAT PATREON PERKS, JOIN US THERE!Ash and Kristen begin their dive into the wildly controversial world of Graham Hancock and his hotly debated speculations. Along the way, they take approximately 700 Wikipedia detours through Gnosticism, Catharism, esoteric secret-knowledge clubs, and so much conspiracy-adjacent archaeology, religious relic lore, and Ice Age brain-melt timelines that Ash has to stop Kristen every 2-3 minutes to define something. So naturally, we had to make this a two-parter!In part one, the gals talk about Hancock's journey from respected journalist to alternative archaeologist who digs into controversial theories about lost ancient civilizations and literally everything else throughout time and space. There’s a new trend taking the hobby by storm – blackwater tanks! These aquariums often have a stained appearance, with water resembling tea. They frequently are designed with lots of leaf litter and other botanicals, minimal flow, and little to no aquarium plants. Aside from the visual appearance, these tanks will also have lower pH and hardness, replicating softer water environments where many blackwater fish are found. The hosts discuss these setups in detail, covering design elements, equipment, water chemistry, and many of the fish species that thrive in these environments. In this episode of El Niño Speaks, José Niño sat down with Louis of Evicition Notice to dissect the latest wave of chest thumping imperial rhetoric, from Greenland talk to broader dreams of territorial expansion across the Western Hemisphere.Louis makes a blunt case that the “return to empire” narrative collapses the moment you run the numbers. He draws a hard line between old school Empire 1.0, meaning direct conquest, occupation, and extraction, and the modern Empire 2.0 model that relies on finance, trade dependency, and base politics. They get into why extraction empires historically failed on dollars and cents, why modern occupation costs explode faster than any resource can repay, and why mercenary fantasies around private military contractors like Blackwater do not magically fix the structural limits of American power. Listen now for a sharp reality check on imperial ambition in the modern era, and what the next phase of geopolitical competition could actually look like.Follow Louis's work here:Twitter: https://x.com/LouisWordGeniusRumble: https://rumble.com/user/EvictionNotice?e9s=src_v1_cblIf you liked the show, feel free to continue supporting my work. With the American republic hanging in the balance, Ralph calls on Democrats to pressure Republicans in the House and Senate to impeach Trump before the midterms or suffer the consequences. Then, we welcome Dino Grandoni, co-author of a Washington Post report on the surprising ways various species of animals and plants help advance our own health and longevity.Dino Grandoni is a reporter who covers life sciences for the Washington Post. He was part of a reporting team that was a finalist for the 2025 Pulitzer Prize in National Reporting for coverage of Hurricane Helene. He previously covered the Environmental Protection Agency and wrote a daily tipsheet on energy and environmental policy. He is co-author (with Hailey Haymond and Katty Huertas) of the feature “50 Species That Save Us.”The Democrats—while there are people like constitutional law expert Jamie Raskin (who has said a shadow hearing to publicly educate the American people on impeachment “is a good idea”) he's been muzzled by Hakeem Jeffries and Charlie Schumer, who basically don't want the Democrats to use the word impeachment. So who's using the word impeachment the most? Donald Trump—not only wants to impeach judges who decide against him, but he's talking about the Democrats impeaching him, and he uses the word all the time. So we have an upside-down situation here where the opposition party is not in the opposition on the most critical factor, which is that we have the most impeachable President in American history, getting worse by the day.Ralph NaderIf the founding fathers came back to life today, would any of them oppose the impeachment, conviction, and removal of office of Donald J. Trump, who talks about being a monarch? That's what they fought King George over. Of course, they would all support it.Ralph NaderWhat we have in these cards and in our stories at the Washington Post here are examples of the ways we know, the ways that scientists have uncovered how plants and animals help us. But we don't know what we don't know. There are likely numerous other ways that plants and animals are protecting human well-being that we don't know and we may very well never know if some of these species go extinct.Dino GrandoniI'm always eager to find these connections between human well-being and the well-being of nature and try to describe them in ways that are compelling to readers that get them to care about protecting nature. And also finding those instances (because I want to be objective here) of when human well-being and the well-being of nature might be in conflict, and that might involve some tough decisions that we as a society or policymakers have to make.Dino GrandoniNews 1/16/25* Our top two stories this week concern corporate wrongdoing. First, Business Insider reports that the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection has released a new report which estimates Uber Eats and DoorDash, by altering their tipping processes in the city – moving tipping prompts to less prominent locations after checkout so upfront delivery costs would appear lower – have deprived gig delivery workers of $550 million since December 2023. As this piece notes, that was the month that New York City's minimum pay law for delivery workers took effect. As a result, “The average tip for delivery workers on the apps dropped 75%...from $3.66 to $0.93, one week after the apps made the changes…The figure has since declined to $0.76 per delivery.” This report presages a new city law that “requires the apps to offer customers the option to tip before or during checkout. Both Uber and DoorDash have sued the City over the law, which is set to take effect on January 26.” Whether the administration will stick to their guns on this issue, in the face of corporate pressure, will be a major early test for Mayor Zohran Mamdani.* Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal reports UnitedHealth Group “deployed aggressive tactics to collect payment-boosting diagnoses for its Medicare Advantage members.” As the Journal explains, “In Medicare Advantage, the federal government pays insurers a lump sum to oversee medical benefits for seniors and disabled people. The government pays extra for patients with certain costly medical conditions, a process called risk adjustment.” A new report from the Senate Judiciary Committee found that UnitedHealth had “turned risk adjustment into a business,” thereby exploiting Medicare Advantage and systematically and fraudulently overbilling the federal government. Due to its structure, advocates like Ralph Nader have long warned that Medicare Advantage is ripe for waste fraud and abuse, in addition to being an inferior program for seniors compared to traditional Medicare. This report supports the accuracy of these warnings. Yet, Dr. Mehmet Oz Trump's appointee to head the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, is a longtime proselytizer for Medicare Advantage and this setback is unlikely to make him reverse course, no matter the cost to patients or taxpayers.* Yet, even as these instances of corporate criminal lawlessness pile up, the Trump administration is all but abolishing the police on the corporate crime beat. In a new report, Rick Claypool, corporate crime research director at Public Citizen, documents how the administration has “canceled or halted a total of 159 enforcement actions against 166 corporations.” This amounts to corporations avoiding payments totaling $3.1 billion in penalties for misconduct. This report further documents how these corporations have ingratiated themselves with Trump, via donations to his inauguration or ballroom project, or more typical revolving door or lobbying arrangements. As Claypool himself puts it, “The ‘law enforcement' claims the White House uses as a pretext for authoritarian anti-immigrant crackdowns, city occupations, and imperial resource seizures abroad lose all credibility when cast against the lawlessness Trump allows for the pursuit of corporate profits.”* In another instance of a Trump administration giveaway to corporations, the New York Times reports the Environmental Protection Agency will “Stop Considering Lives Saved When Setting Rules on Air Pollution.” Under the new regulatory regime, the EPA will “estimate only the costs to businesses of complying with the rules.” The Times explains that different administrations have balanced these competing interests differently, always faced with the morbid dilemma of how much, in a dollar amount, to value human life; but “until now, no administration has counted it as zero.”* Moving to Congress, the big news from the Legislative Branch this week has to do with Bill and Hillary Clinton. NPR reports Congressman James Comer, Chair of the House Oversight Committee, issued subpoenas to the former president and former Secretary of State to testify in a committee hearing related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In a letter published earlier this week, the Clintons formally rejected the subpoenas, calling them “legally invalid.” The Clintons' refusal to appear tees up an opportunity for Congress to exercise its contempt power and force the couple to testify. Democrats on the Oversight Committee, who agreed to issue the subpoenas as part of a larger list, have noted that “most of the other people have not been forced to testify,” indicating that this is a political stunt rather than an earnest effort. That said, there is little doubt that, at least, former President Clinton knows more about the Epstein affair than he has stated publicly thus far and there is a good chance Congress will vote through a contempt resolution and force him to testify.* In the Senate, Elizabeth Warren, Chris Murphy and other liberal Senators are “urging their Democratic colleagues to pivot to economic populism by ‘confronting' corporate power and billionaires, warning that just talking about affordability alone won't move swing voters who backed President Trump in 2024,” per the Hill. Senators Adam Schiff of California and Tina Smith of Minnesota also signed this memo. The Senators cited a recent poll that found Americans “increasingly cannot afford basic goods such as medical care and groceries,” but they also warned that “Bland policy proposals — without a narrative explaining who is getting screwed and who is doing the screwing – will not work.” Hopefully this forceful urging by fellow Senators will move the needle within the Democratic caucus in the upper house. Nothing else seems to have driven the point home.* One candidate who seems to understand this message is Graham Platner of Maine. Platner, who is endorsed by Bernie Sanders, has a controversial past that includes a career in the Marines and a stint working for the private military contractor Blackwater. However, he is running as a staunch economic populist and New Deal style progressive Democrat – and the message appears to be working. According to Zeteo, a poll conducted in mid-December found Platner up by 15 points in the primary over his opponent, current Governor Janet Mills. More concerning is the fact that this same poll shows both Platner and Mills in a dead heat with incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins, indicating this could be a brutal, protracted and expensive campaign.* On the other end of the spectrum, Axios reported this week that former Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, who once led the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and then served as President Biden's ambassador to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, has accepted a role as CEO and president of the Coalition for Prediction Markets. The coalition is essentially a trade association for betting websites; members include Kalshi, Crypto.com Robinhood and Coinbase, among others. The coalition will leverage Maloney's influence with Democrats, along with former Republican Congressman Patrick McHenry's influence across the aisle, to lobby for favorable regulation for their industry.* Turning to foreign affairs, prosecutors in South Korea have announced that they are seeking the death penalty for former President Yoon Suk-Yeol on “charges of masterminding an insurrection over his brief imposition of martial law in December 2024,” per Reuters. In a stunning courtroom revelation, a prosecutor said during closing arguments that “investigators confirmed the existence of a scheme allegedly directed by Yoon and his former defence minister, Kim Yong-hyun, dating back to October 2023 designed to keep Yoon in power.” The prosecutor added that “The defendant has not sincerely regretted the crime... or apologised properly to the people.” As this piece notes, South Korea has not carried out a death sentence in nearly three decades. Even still, it is remarkable to see how this case has unfolded compared to the reaction of the American judicial system to Donald Trump's attempted self-coup on January 6th, 2021.* Finally, turning to Latin America, many expected the fall of Nicolás Maduro to mean a redoubled energy crisis for the long-embargoed island nation of Cuba. Yet, the Financial Times reports that in fact, “Mexico overtook Venezuela to become Cuba's top oil supplier in 2025…helping the island weather a sharp drop in Venezuelan crude shipments.” CBS adds that “Despite President Trump's social media pronouncement…that ‘there will be no more oil or money going to Cuba — zero,' the current U.S. policy is to allow Mexico to continue to provide oil to the island, according to Energy Secretary Chris Wright.” For the time being, the administration seems open to maintaining this status quo – including maintaining cordial relations with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum – though this appears more strained than ever. Sheinbaum harshly criticized the kidnapping of Maduro, stating “unilateral action and invasion cannot be the basis for international relations in the 21st century,” while Republican Congressman Carlos Gimenez has threatened that there could be “serious consequences for trade between our countries” if Sheinbaum “continues to undermine US policy by sending oil to the murderous dictatorship in Cuba.”This has been Francesco DeSantis, with In Case You Haven't Heard. 'twas the day after The Night Before Christmas, and all through the house, nobody really wanted to be responsible for making other people work. So I didn't. Uh... not even a mouse, or whatever. Today, we'll all take a moment to relax--whether you have reason to or not--and think back to a time when Christmas meant the impending departure of Donald Trump. A simpler time, when we didn't yet know that someone had blown a city block of Nashville sky high, on Trump's "watch." You could be forgiven for forgetting, though, since he also launched a MAGA assalut on the U.S. Capitol less than two weeks later. So, yes, please enjoy this, our December 24, 2020 episode! David Waldman, opens today's KITM yawning like the MGM lion, waking us up for Christmas eve: Donald Trump keeps handing out pardons like moist candy canes to anyone that met him under the mistletoe over the last few years. Donald pardoned Jesse Benton as a gift to his employers, Ron Paul and Mitch McConnell and the uncle of Benton's wife, Rand Paul… (Jesse will probably be Matt Gaetz' son by the end of the day.) Trump pardoned a former Maryland police officer whose heart he knew was in the right place. (They need to be arrested faster than Trump can pardon them.) Merry Christmas! Trump's Blackwater pardons aren't bringing much cheer to their victim's families, however. There's bound to be more today, but Dad's saving the nicest ones for under the tree in Mar-a-Lago. Greg Dworkin reminds us that actually, Donald Trump doesn't give gifts to anyone but himself. If he can take someone else's gift, it's even better. Merry F***ing Christmas to everyone in Congress with the Gop at each other's throats and Democrats trying to pull $2000 checks out of the fireplace. It seems that Trump might be a little over his head still on how government works, or how reality works for that matter. Kelly Loeffler, too. Two Republican House members voted by proxy — while simultaneously suing to ban the use of proxy voting . Ron DeSantis figures, why appoint experts when he can be the guy that says expert things? Rep.-elect Luke Letlow checked himself into the hospital for no particular reason, and is now thinking about checking out the ICU for the holidays. People who are immunocompromised or otherwise allow coronavirus to hang around for while might encourage unfortunate mutations. Did Bill Barr arrest Lev Parnas to keep him from testifying against Donald Trump? Did a Democratic House candidate lose by 6 votes after 22 votes were improperly excluded in Iowa? Did the Kansas City Star misreport on Black Kansas Citians for generations? Yes.

Send Kris and Rob a Text Message! On December 26, 1907, a teenage boatman walking along the Passaic River spotted two pale feet jutting from the black water of a swamp outside Harrison, New Jersey. Dragged from the muck, the woman had no clothes, no identification, and only a torn red coat and a homemade fur muff nearby to hint at who she'd been. Within days, the tabloids were calling it the Lampblack Swamp mystery—and when the victim was finally named as 35‑year‑old Brooklyn housewife Lena Whitmore, the spotlight swung to her jealous, violent husband, Theodore. In this episode, we reconstruct Lena's last days: fleeing abuse to her sister's Bronx apartment, returning home after promises of change, and then vanishing on Christmas night. You'll hear how anonymous letters, a suspicious “don't expect me tonight” telegram, and prior assault charges painted Theodore as a likely killer, even as his defense insisted the state could not prove how—or even where—Lena died. We walk through the autopsy that proved she was alive when she hit the water, the circumstantial case that went to trial, and the hung jury that left her murder officially unsolved.*This episode of Hitched to Homicide podcast discusses the subject domestic/intimate partner violence. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) just can't keep her mouth shut about Dr. Jeffrey Epstein, an American hero who has restored the confidence of thousands of men (not to be confused with the other Jeffrey Epstein) as evidenced by a recent appearance on MS Now where she appeared to double down on her misleading claims towards EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin. Will reacts to more Crockett insanity, before discussing Elon Musk's claim that smartphones will be replaced by AI within the next decade.Story 2: Host of ‘Off Leash with Erik Prince,' and founder of the private military contractor Blackwater, Erik Prince joins to explain some startling revelations made about the man who shot two National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C. shooter last week. This week, radio & television legend and Country Music Hall of Fame member Grandpa Jones with his wife, Grand Old Opry star Ramona and family recorded live at the Ozark Folk Center State Park. Also, interviews and a live performance from the Jones Family. Aubrey Atwater presents “The Mother of Folk Music” Jean Ritchie, and Mark Jones offers an archival recording of Ozark original, Jim Bullard. Grandpa Jones was a performer during the golden age of radio, and later found success as a cast member on the syndicated television program, “Hee Haw.” After years of living near Nashville, TN, Grandpa moved to Mountain View, Arkansas in the early 1980's. Along with his wife Ramona, they ran the Grandpa Jones Dinner Theater. The theater employed many musicians, many of whom are still around the Ozarks today including their son Mark and guitarist Danny Dozier. We'll dig deep into the archives this week for a set of music, featuring some of Grandpa's finest performances at Ozark Folk Center State Park. “The Jones Family Band” features a cast of all-star musicians, including Alisa and Mark Jones. This performance from the Jones Family Band was the last one recorded at the Ozark Folk Center State Park before Ramona passed in late 2015. Renowned folk musician Aubrey Atwater profiles influential folk music icons Jean Ritchie and the Ritchie Family, as well as explores the traditional Appalachian music and dance that the Ritchie Family helped to perpetuate into the modern American folk lexicon. This episode focuses on Jean Ritchie as a songwriter, and features Jean's performance of her original song “Black Water.” Mark Jones' “From the Vault” segment features a rare recording of Ozark original Jim Bullard, performing the traditional song “Glory Land,” from the Ozark Folk Center State Park archives.

Over the past few months, classified document releases related to Russiagate, the deep state, and other scandals have shown us just how frightening the government can be. But as Gina Keating has proven, it is NOT invincible. Gina — an investigative journalist and lifelong liberal — was forced to question everything she knew when she discovered that the DOJ under Obama, at the urging of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was wrongfully prosecuting four Blackwater contractors for allegedly staging a massacre at Nisour Square in Baghdad, Iraq. Gina joins Glenn Beck to tell the story of these men, as documented in her new book, “Raven 23: How the Department of Justice Betrayed American Heroes.” She and Glenn discuss why the government really prosecuted these men, how Wikileaks helped expose the truth, and how Pete Hegseth helped convince President Trump to pardon them. But perhaps just as concerning was the media's response to this story. Gina describes how her fellow journalists wouldn't touch the case on “moral” grounds and provides solutions to help get partisan politics out of journalism.
