"I am not a medical doctor; how do I impact others with healthy eating? How do I impact change?" Meet James Beard Chef Hari Pulapaka and Podiatrist Dr. Jenneffer Pulapaka: A married couple trying to impact healthy changes in their patients, one bite at a time. They are a dynamic duo who focus on plant forward nutrition and healthy living in their respective areas of business. Whether, it is while teaching people how to cook, Hari brings in healthy tips and asks the questions of why we choose the foods we do. When it is foot health, Dr. Jennifer talks about how to use complex carbohydrates instead of refined ones to reduce their diabetes and improve their foot health. Topics we discussed: - What motivates a chef and a podiatrist to want to change how people eat? - What does change mean? - What are simple things people can do to change their diet? - Hari and Jenneffer have written a new book about heart healthy plant-based eating. What were your goals in writing this? - Does eating healthy have to be hard? How can we make this simple and easy? - How do you encourage people to change? Join us for another great episode of Seek Voices: Exploring the Science of Health and Healing
This notion that removing all Palestinians from Gaza is a fresh new idea that was conceived of by Trump is one of the most ridiculous narratives we're seeing pushed by the mainstream political/media class today. Reading by Tim Foley.

Fred and Karen, long-time gospel workers in Asia, share this week about the church in Brunei and the challenges they face daily to live boldly for Christ. Christians there can live comfortably—if they don't share the gospel or attempt to witness to ethnic Malay people. Ethnically, the church there is primarily made up of Chinese, Indians and other expats. It is illegal for ethnic Malay people to be present in a church, and many Christians are hesitant to speak about Christianity to a Malay person for fear of Christian persecution. With such strong repercussions for a Malay person following Christ, and for those who shared the gospel with that person, some Christians in Brunei have the mentality that the Malay will never choose Jesus. The government, which censors information through every medium, always displays Islam in an attractive light—even publishing the names of Christians or people of other faiths who convert to Islam. There are financial and other enticements for non-Muslims to convert—and for Muslims to continue following Islam. Listen as Fred and Karen share the story of a Muslim entering the house of a friend and seeing a Bible; the story illustrates the strong resistance Malay Muslims have toward anything Christian. Pray for God to move in the hearts of Malay Muslims, revealing himself in dreams and visions to them. Pray against the spirit of fear that has fallen on many within the church in Brunei. You may even want to book a plane ticket to go personally to pray on the ground in Brunei. Never miss an episode! .

Rates of depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation among college students are at an all-time high. And while students of all backgrounds face similar levels of mental health challenges, ethnically diverse students are far less likely to seek treatment. That gap is due to factors including lack of access to a diverse selection of counselors; cultural stigmas surrounding mental health; and the cost of care. The need for more robust mental healthcare continues once students transition into the workforce. On this episode, we hear from Diana Chao, a graduate student and the executive director and founder of Letters 2 Strangers, a global, youth-run mental health nonprofit that emerged from Diana's own battle with mental illness. Then, host Carla Harris sits with Evan Rose, co-founder of The Steve Fund, the leading organization in the U.S. focused on supporting the mental health and emotional wellbeing of young people of color, and a non-profit member of the Morgan Stanley Alliance for Mental Health. They discuss the work that The Steve Fund is doing to offer a roadmap for higher education institutions and companies to create accessible mental healthcare solutions for their students and colleagues, respectively. For more information about the Steve Fund, go to https://stevefund.org. Well, we're still in France. In this episode, we're going to talk about one of the most famous Frenchmen ever, Napoleon Bonaparte. But I should start by pointing out that Napoleon, who eventually will become the Emperor of France, was not actually, well, French. He was Corsican. He was born on the Island of Corsica, which is an island in the Mediterranean, between France and Italy. It's just north of the larger island of Sardinia. Ethnically, the Corsicans were mostly of Italian descent, rather than French. In fact, Napoleon's parents were descended from Italian nobility. Human Rights Watch say there is no political will to address the surge in alleged ethnically-driven killings in the Darfur region of Sudan. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his Secretary of the Treasury, Henry Morgenthau Jr., intended to target millions of German civilians for displacement and death. Here are new facts on the extent of the duo's merciless postwar blueprint.

Centers for Leadership Excellence (CLE), a new initiative from the Ferguson Charitable Foundation, seeks to introduce ethnically diverse college students to career opportunities available in real estate, with the long-term goal of helping to change the racial and ethnic composition of the sector.“We want to get these students into the boardroom and into the c-suite because as leaders they can effectuate change,” Bill Ferguson, chairman of Ferguson Partners and president of the Ferguson Charitable Foundation, told the Nareit REIT Report.Ebony Mitchell, director of strategic initiatives at Ferguson and student liaison for CLE, noted that with the lack of ethnic diversity in commercial real estate, “there's been a limited number of role models and mentors of color to attract young collegiate talent on and off campus.” She added that many of Ferguson's clients have also struggled with attracting diverse talent, especially at the entry level due to traditional campus recruiting efforts.Ferguson explained that students selected into the CLE Program are required to take a certain number of courses in real estate in order to graduate with a minor in real estate. Given Ferguson's vast network of corporate relationships across 12 sectors in the real estate industry, “we are connecting them with clear opportunities,” he said.
According to the Rudd Report, “U.S. food companies disproportionately target Black and Hispanic consumers” with “more than one billion spent” exacerbating poor diet and disease like heart, diabetes, and obesity. Companies argue that it shows the value they place in these communities, but value or profit are much different than the value of life and well-being. Although TV advertising budgets have decreased due to viewership, some companies like Kellogg have increased their marketing to Hispanics and Blacks 63% in 2021. Red Bull increased ads by 835%. As for “candy and gum/mints, sugary drinks, savory snacks cereal, and sweet snacks” advertising for “Spanish-language and Black-targeted” viewers represented 75% of the overall amount spent. “Ethnically targeted marketing campaigns almost exclusively proved unhealthy products” the reports says. Despite this, no activists are concerned at all, AND despite the disproportionate spending in those groups everyone is ultimately the target with white children clocking in at being nearly as obese as any Hispanic or Black child. Part of the issue is cultural and the other party is simply that few people, white or black, left or right, consider what's in their foods, cosmetics, drugs, etc., even if they are concerned with other disease related ‘treatments'. Others trust government health recommendations about certain diseases but ignore scientific proof that most disease, including heart and diabetes, can be eliminated with lifestyle changes.

Brandon Hodge brings us a wonderful message on how Christ is inviting us to make ourselves neighbors to an increasingly diverse web of relationships, bringing reconciliation where there was animosity, peace where there was conflict, and justice where there was oppression.
If you're a woman from an ethnically diverse background and have faced the metaphorical ‘computer says no' when it comes to your job hunt, you'll know that the playing field is far from level. Yes, it's difficult for women in today's job market, but it's especially tough for women who aren't white, and studies across the board are enough to make you wonder why change is going at a snail's pace.
For the last century, Finland has walked a diplomatic tightrope between East and West. A former Russian imperial holding and Soviet target, the independent nordic nation boasts a free market economy, EU membership, and regional defense partnerships. Yet, Finland has previously stopped short of formally joining NATO, the West's major military alliance–maintaining a pragmatic policy of forced neutrality along its 800-mile border with Russia. That is, until Russia's recent invasion of Ukraine. How does a country survive the threat of Russian aggression? Ray Suarez talks with Henri Vanhanen, advisor to the Finnish National Coalition Party, about his country's recent pivot toward NATO membership–both in parliament and the polls–and what it could mean for the future of international security. Featuring: Henri Vanhanen, foreign policy and EU advisor for the Finland National Coalition Party Ray Suarez, co-host of WorldAffairs Finland 101, by Ray Suarez Maybe you've noticed how often Finland comes up during the Ukraine coverage, and wondered why? Here's a quick little history…a thousand pages in a few seconds. For centuries, the Finns have had to thread their way, as a people, through the conflicts of other big powers in their part of the world. Ethnically and linguistically distinct…they're not their Swedish neighbors to the west or their Russian neighbors to the east…but they had to fend off both to remain themselves. For centuries Finland was fought for, or fought over, by Russians and Swedes. As the 20thcentury began, Finland was part of Czarist Russia…then the Czar abdicated and the Empire collapsed. The Finns flirted with Communism, and with monarchy, before becoming a republic with a new president in 1919. Josef Stalin wanted Finland back for the USSR. The Soviets invaded, shortly after the Nazis bulldozed Poland in 1939. The Finns fought back ferociously. They inflicted heavy casualties. The Soviets eventually recognized Finland's independence, signed a peace treaty, and permanently seized about a tenth of Finland's territory, incorporating it into the USSR. The Finns would remain independent, somewhat free of Soviet domination after the Second World War, but that freedom came at a cost. Finland gave up more territory, and population, and diplomatic freedom of movement. The country lived in a gray area between east and west during the Cold War. Its status even got a dismissive name…Finlandization, used to describe a forced neutrality, an expensive freedom. Finland had a market economy, democratically elected governments, freedom of speech, and growing prosperity….all the while staying aloof from the expanding European Union, and certainly NATO, the western military alliance. When the Soviet Union collapsed, much as Czarist Russia did, Finland had an escape hatch… denounced its earlier treaties, joined the EU, adopted the Euro, but remained outside NATO, sharing an eight hundred mile border with the Russian Federation.

In this episode, Mary Ho talks about leading All Nations International and what it takes to lead ethnically and geographically diverse teams. Her experience growing up in different nations, prepared her for work in the nations. In the early 1990s, God began birthing a heart for the poor and for the nations in John and Mary Ho, while a young married couple working for World Vision in Taiwan. Later in Hong Kong, they were greatly impacted by being a part of the churches that grew out of Jackie Pullinger's ministry. Such experience and passion led to a steamless transition into leadership roles years later with the work started by Floyd and Sally McClung in the USA. Named in 2015 and commissioned in 2016, Dr. Mary Ho became the International Executive Leader of All Nations International (allnations.international), a global Christian missions organization. In this current role, Dr. Ho provides leadership and direction for All Nations which has grown to four hubs and 400 cross-cultural workers in more than 40 countries. Prior to this role, Dr. Ho served as the North America Executive Director of the All Nations' hub in Kansas City, MO. Under her leadership All Nations has since multiplied with two additional hubs, one in Hamburg, Germany, and another in Kampala, Uganda. Her vision is to see All Nations establish additional hubs in other gateway cities worldwide for the mobilization of both cross-cultural and near-cultural workers. Dr. Ho is passionate about finishing the Great Commission in this generation and longs to see the love of God shared among the remaining untouched gospel frontiers. Born in Taiwan and raised on four continents, Dr. Ho, has lived in Taiwan, the Philippines, the Kingdom of eSwatini (formerly Swaziland), New Zealand, Hong Kong, and the U.S. Mary's Recommendations:Misreading Scripture with Western EyesThe Gift of Being YourselfGo to www.shiftingculturepodcast.com to interact and donate. In early December, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Specifically, the Norwegian Committee cited Ahmed's “decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighboring Eritrea.” Prime Minister Ahmed is a Pentecostal Christian and the second African Evangelical in a row to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Kenyan physician Denis Mukwege won in 2018. Ahmed's story is only the latest chapter in the ancient history of Ethiopian Christianity, which began in Acts 8 when an angel told Philip, “Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” On that road, Philip met an Ethiopian court official puzzled over the meaning of Isaiah 53. Philip told the man known as the Ethiopian Eunuch the good news about Jesus, and when the official professed faith, Philip baptized him. Afterward, the “Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing.” Where he went, of course, was Ethiopia. According to second century church father Irenaeus of Lyon, “This man . . . was also sent into the regions of Ethiopia, to preach what he had himself believed.” And according to church historian Nicephorus, Matthias, the one chosen to replace Judas, also preached the gospel in Ethiopia. Over the next two centuries, Christianity continued to spread in the region. Then in the early fourth century, in another momentous chapter in Ethiopian Christian history, a Christian boy from Tyre named Frumentius was shipwrecked and sold into slavery at a port along the Red Sea. His new master was the king of Axum, a region in what is now Ethiopia. Like Daniel and Joseph before him, Frumentius gained the trust of the pagan king who, upon his death, freed Frumentius. But Frumentius remained as a tutor to the new king, Ezana. When Ezana came of age, Frumentius returned to Tyre to be trained as a priest. From there he went to Alexandria and asked the great theologian and patriarch Athanasius to send a bishop and missionaries to facilitate the further conversion of Ethiopia. Athanasius decided that the best man for that job was Frumentius himself, and so he was consecrated as the new bishop. The most historically significant of Frumentius' converts was King Ezana himself, who was baptized shortly after Frumentius returned to Ethiopia. Within a decade of his return, the majority of the people in Ezana's kingdom had become Christians. Christianity became the official religion of what is now Ethiopia in about 330A.D., which makes Ethiopia the second oldest Christian nation on earth after Armenia. “What about Rome?” you ask? Rome didn't officially become Christian until 380 A.D. Recent archeological finds confirm this story. As recently related at Smithsonian.com, archeologists have discovered the remains of a church that date back to the early fourth century. This discovery reminds us of three things. First, even before Constantine legalized Christianity in the Roman Empire, the faith had already spread far and wide from Ethiopia to the south and India to the east. Second, the Christian faith originated at the crossroads of Asia and Africa. The modern explosion of Christianity on both those continents is, in reality, a homecoming. Ethnically and linguistically, our Lord was more closely related to people like Frumentius and the people of Ethiopia, who speak a Semitic language, than He was to the people of Europe. And finally, Ethiopia's two-thousand-year legacy of Christianity all began with Philip's simple act of obedience. So when the Lord bids any of us, “Rise and go,” we'd better do it. After all, who knows if He might bless an act of obedience today, in order to change history and to glorify His name for centuries to come.
