Many Americans aspire to leave the 9-to-5 grind and start their own businesses. A recent survey by GOBankingRates revealed that nearly 59% of people would consider launching their own venture if given the opportunity. Additionally, just over 32% of respondents expressed a desire to start a business within the next 6 to 12 months. Interestingly, however, only 6% of individuals in the United States are currently self-employed.   Hi, I'm David Little, an entrepreneur and co-founder of Crown Capital Resources, which focuses on lending in the real estate market. I made the leap from a successful engineering career to pursue my side hustle full-time. For years, I dedicated my nights and weekends to building my business, carefully balancing the demands of a full-time job with my desire to create something of my own. Through persistence, strategic planning, and an unwavering work ethic, I grew my side hustle into a thriving business, allowing me to make a seamless transition to entrepreneurship.    I offer relatable insights and actionable advice on various topics, including starting a business while employed, overcoming obstacles, and navigating the transition to full-time entrepreneurship. My goal is to inspire others to chase their passions and demonstrate that, with the right mindset and dedication, anything is possible.   I am also a husband and father of two girls, and I would love to share my experiences as a young father while balancing work and family responsibilities.   For more information: https://crowncapitalresources.com/  Email: david@crowncapitalresources.com

In Episode 10 of Ninety-Pound Rucksack, host Christian Beckwith explores how John McCown and his fellow citizen-soldiers overcame traditional military doctrine to prepare for mountain warfare—and in the process, reshaped the Old Army into one of the mightiest forces the world had ever known. Show Notes and Resources: www.christianbeckwith.com The episode includes interviews with Ninety-Pound Rucksack Advisory Board Members: Lance R. Blyth: Command Historian of North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM); Adjunct Professor of History at the United States Air Force Academy. David Little: “living historian” for the Tenth Mountain Division Foundation. Sepp Scanlin: military historian and museum professional; served as the 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum Museum's Museum Director. Key Points: The draft and the enlistment of citizen soldiers changed the US Army from a rigid, authoritarian, all-volunteer institution into one of the mightiest forces the world had ever known. The development of Officer Candidate School (OCS) created an industrial-style assembly line that produced junior leaders to lead the citizen army into combat. The innovative Junior Officers' Plan, which was developed to train officers for the mountain troops and then return them to the unit, preserved institutional knowledge critical to the mountain troops' ability to fight in cold weather and mountainous terrain. A specialized division designed to fight in extreme conditions had to adapt the Army's standard flatland, warm-weather military strategies to mountain warfare. Featured Segments: A vivid recreation of a conversation between John McCown and his peers at Ft. Benning, Georgia, highlighting: their takeaways from Hitler's invasion of the Soviet Union and the impact of winter on his army's defeat their frustrations with traditional Army tactics and its inability to recognize the importance of specialized training their resolve to embody the change they knew the mountain troops would need in order to fulfill its mandate An overview of the Army's transformation from an all-volunteer force into one led by citizen-soldiers like John McCown. Detailed analyses of Officer Candidate School, the Junior Officers Plan and the need for a purpose-built encampment for the mountain troops. In this episode, we explore gait impairment – a common symptom of Parkinson's that can involve slowness, muscle stiffness and freezing – and how it impacts people living with the condition. Our first guest is David Little, who lives in Carlisle, UK. Having previously worked as a firefighter, David was diagnosed with Parkinson's back in 2005. David has experienced first-hand the effects of gait impairment in his day-to-day life and says he's keen to challenge the misconceptions that can surround the condition. He is joined by Martina Mancini from Italy, who works as an assistant professor in the neurology department at the Oregon Health & Sciences University, in Oregon, US. Martina has worked on numerous studies about gait impairment – and has also investigated the role wearable devices can play in treatment. David and Martina discuss what causes gait impairment, share advice on managing these symptoms – and explore how current research is addressing this topic. This episode was funded by Charco Neurotech, the company behind CUE1 – a wearable medical device designed to help alleviate gait impairment and support movement in people with Parkinson's. Dr. David Little has been working with dental implants for nearly four decades. He's seen the evolution of the processes, protocol, and tools dentists use to improve their patients' smiles and how digital technology is making it easier than ever to incorporate implants into general practice. GPs should not be intimidated by implants, Dr. Little says. He breaks down his system for extracting, grafting, and placing implants and shares his opinion on the different media he's using with his patients. He explains his logic behind the biologics of implants and what companies he's working with to procure suitable membranes.  Dr. Little will be writing a book for GPs that will provide a more hands-on experience through video and other digital resources. He wants dentists to avoid some of the common pitfalls he fell victim to. But, most importantly, he wants dentists to continue thinking traditionally. Among all of the new technology and digital accouterments, we will still need to rely on our skills first and foremost. Technology is here to improve our workflow and make us more efficient, but it can't replace your knowledge. The traditional methods provide a strong foundation for dentists to grow in their careers and specialties.  To keep his fellow dentists inspired to learn, Dr. Little is creating an online educational studio for fellow dentists who are hungry for knowledge and want to learn new skills. In addition, there will be remote office hours with different dentists and speakers and resources dentists can share with one another. We discuss his mentorship plans and how important it is for us to continue to inspire fellow dentists as we move into the future. GatorCountry brings you a new podcast as we recap the Florida Gators 49-42 loss to the LSU Tigers on Saturday in Death Valley. Andrew Spivey and David Soderquist breakdown what happened on Saturday for the Gators and how things changed when Anthony Richardson took over at quarterback. Andrew and David also look ahead to the rest of the season as Dan Mullen and his coaching staff will use the bye week to evaluate personnel changes that they will make before Georgia. TRANSCRIPT: David:What's up folks of Gator Country? This is none other than your boy David Soderquist, along with Andrew Spivey. Unfortunately, we have to do this podcast today, because I know a lot of you fans out there are a little ticked off. I'm a little ticked off. I know Spivey over there doesn't look happy either, except for the fact that his Braves won this weekend here. Andrew:That's right.  David:Little bit of good news for him, I guess. Florida goes into LSU Tiger Stadium here and just lays an egg again. Loses 42-49, and I can't say they completely laid an egg, but as far as defensively, just looked awful.  Andrew:I don't know why I had the sneaky suspicion in the back of my mind this game was going to be tough. I had said on the podcast on Friday, if this team came out very hot and just put it on LSU early and gave these guys a lot of doubt, I thought the game could be a blowout. But I had a feeling that Florida would come out slow like they always do, and they would come out slow like they always do at 11:00, Baton Rouge time, and they did. They get the blocked punt from Jordan Pouncey, and you think, this is some changes about to happen here. Florida goes down. They score a touchdown, but they miss the PAT. Then they allow LSU to just come back and continue to march. Tyrion Price Davis, LSU record 287 yards, the most rushing yards ever by a running back against Florida, breaking a record Hershel Walker had. They give 454 yards to an LSU team that has not been very good. 321 of those on the ground.  David, it wasn't a complex scheme they were running. They were running a simple counter play, and then they were running a simple lead play with zone blocking, and they were allowing Florida's defenders to take themselves out of the play. They used Florida against themselves. Florida's problem this year and in past years have been the defensive ends shoot up the field with no contain. It's been an issue for years, and it continued on Saturday where they allowed those guys to shoot up the field, and that was cool, because the tackle just pushed him aside. David Price would just cut it up underneath them, and boom, he had 8, 9, 10 yards. The man averaged 8 yards a rush.  That simply cannot happen. This is an LSU team that's banged up. They don't even have their best running back in John Emery playing. This is Max Johnson, who has a noodle of an arm. Threw for 133 yards. For the majority of them, I felt like it was dink and dunk down the field, play action passes.  Diabate said after the game, we made the adjustments we were told to make. Kind of calling out Grantham and Christian Robinson and those guys, because there was no adjustments to be made. They didn't have any. They didn't know what to do. It was a simple counter play. I got an idea for you. Tell your guys to play assignment football. Put guys in at defensive tackle who can clog the gap, and have your safeties understand not to run up field too much, but to be ready in the hole.  David:It's just terrible. Florida would have 488 total yards. Zero penalties. We got onto penalties the last two weeks. Zero penalties, 488 yards of offense, and still manages to lose the game by seven points. Andrew:It's one step forward, two steps backwards. It's every time with this program, David. This program will fix one issue, and another issue arises. It was like last year. They would fix the run defense, pass defense sucked. Then they'd...

It’s time once again to hop into the only time machine they ever would entertain to budget at BTSC...my brain’s Delorean. Today, our trip into Steelers yesteryear takes us back to the day when a crash of a Spantax charter-flight from Madrid to New York claimed 50 people and injured 110 more, Chicago had the country’s top single with “Hard For Me To Say I’m Sorry”, movie-goers were falling for Richard Gere and Debra Winger in An Officer and a Gentleman, and the football world was bracing for a long work stoppage that was two weeks away. But while football was still happening for the time being, there was hope once again in the Steel City that the glory years of the 1970s could return after two playoff-free seasons. The Steelers only had 27 players returning from their Super Bowl 14 champion team, but younger players like David Little, Frank Pollard, Walter Abercrombie, Rick Woods, Calvin Sweeney and Mike Merriweather — combined with legendary holdovers Terry Bradshaw, Lynn Swann, Franco Harris, John Stallworth, Mike Webster, Jack Lambert, Donnie Shell, Mel Blount and Jack Ham — excited fans in Pittsburgh. Chuck Noll still held the reins, but big changes were made as the defense switched for the first time to a 3-4 alignment and the offense was adapting to Bradshaw’s age with more of a West Coast approach. Their opponent was a familiar Super Bowl rival and a team that went to the previous two NFC Title Games. Tom Landry was looking to his so-called “America’s Team” to get back to the big game. Going in, the Cowboys had won 18 straight games at Texas Stadium. However, the Steelers had won the last six matchups between the two. One streak among the two legendary clubs was about to end that night on Monday Night Football. Flash back to that awesome classic on the Steelers Retro Show and join BTSC’s Tony Defeo and Bryan Anthony Davis as they go back in time and relive this memorable matchup. Welcome back, Dental Slangers! Dr. David Little is joining us on today’s episode. David is the co-founder and Clinical Director of Little Implant Co., one of our favorite suppliers. And it isn’t just the company’s high-quality dental implants that puts it on the top of our list. It’s David’s passion for education and mentorship that inspires us. David is what we call a “seasoned” dentist. When he’s not managing his multidisciplinary practice in San Antonio, he’s teaching live surgeries, implant procedures, and other hands-on educational programs for dentists of all skill levels. What he’s teaching dentists these days—including the both of us—makes us all want to be better clinicians, especially when it comes to dental implants. Dental implants aren’t the niche procedure they used to be. In our opinion, they’re the future of dentistry. We can’t all do fillings and root canals forever, and David is on today to talk about how easy it is to bring implant dentistry to your practice. Mentors are the secret ingredient to helping you learn something new. They’ve already been there, done that, and have made the mistakes so you don’t have to. David shares his own experiences with mentorship, from being the new dentist to becoming the teacher he is today. David’s biggest piece of advice when it comes to dental implants is to keep it simple. From inventory management to discussing options with patients, simplicity is key. There’s no reason to make things more complicated than they need to be, especially when you’re doing something new. David has tips and tricks for new dentists, and we all share a few stories about how we’ve encouraged patients to try dental implants. Getting patients to accept any dental procedure can be tricky. David knows dental implants can be a particularly hard sell at times, and he discusses ways we can overcome this. Over the years, he’s noticed dentists make the same mistakes when they introduce implants to patients, and he has a few tricks to help you avoid these mistakes in your practice. Tune in now to find out how you can better explain complicated procedures like dental implants to patients, and how to better listen to your patients, too. We’ve all got stories to tell, and you never know when patients are going to teach you something new with one of their own dental stories. "Make it a Double!" is the name of the first Marquette Symphony Orchestra concert of the 2019-20 season, and it features music of Brahms, Schubert, and living composer David Little. The Brahms Double Concerto features violinist Scott Flavin and cellist Ross Harbaugh of the Bergonzi Trio; Schubert's Unfinished Symphony is a romantic feature for the whole orchestra; David Little's Haunted Topography is a natural addition to the lineup of romantic works. Octavio Mas-Arocas is the Principal Conductor of the Marquette Symphony Orchestra, and he joined Kurt Hauswirth in studio today to speak about not only the first concert, but the entire 2019-20 season too:

Many fans store a vast collection of sports images in their brains. With just a moment’s glance at a picture, even a slice of the picture, they can recognize the athletes, the season, the game, the particular play that the photographer captured. I experienced this recently when one of my Facebook friends posted a new cover photo on his profile page, a classic shot from the golden age of American football. Cropped down to fit on the page, only the upper corner of the original black-and-white photo was visible, showing a player in shoulder pads and helmet, looking down and raising his right fist, as if to punch downward. I didn’t need to see the rest of the picture. I knew it immediately: the photograph of Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Chuck Bednarik after he had just put a punishing hit on the New York Giants’ Frank Gifford in a game at Yankee Stadium. Even though the photo had been taken eight years before I was born, and featured two teams–the Eagles and Giants–for which I have no affection, the image of this one play is lodged in my anterior cingulate cortex, able to be recalled in an instant. Our experience of sport is mediated through images. Even when we have a ticket to the stadium, we spend more time watching the action on the giant screen than straining to see the distant figures on the field. But in the vast blizzard of images–the online galleries, the double-page spreads, the video highlights–do any frames qualify as art?  Are there any sports photos that deserve a place in a museum, alongside, say, a Richard Avedon portrait or an Andy Warhol series? David Little thinks so. The head of the photography department at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and a lifelong sports fan, David organized the 2012 exhibition “The Sports Show.” The exhibition featured over 200 items, including photographs by Avedon and Warhol, the 1927 Buster Keaton film “College,” and the 2006 documentary “Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait.” Over 150 of the images are reproduced in the exhibition catalogue The Sports Show: Athletics as Image and Spectacle (University of Minnesota Press, 2012), making the book an absorbing treasury of sports photography. In our interview, David describes some of those images, explaining what makes them compelling, beautiful, and original–in short, works of art. And we ask if it still possible to recognize these qualities in a sports photograph, in an age of jumbo screens and Instagram. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
