Adam kicks off the show with writer and director George Gallo to discuss his 2020 film The Comeback Trail, which is currently topping the charts on Paramount+. They also dive into Gallo's all-time classic Midnight Run, the importance of studying classic cinema for aspiring filmmakers, their shared admiration for Woody Allen, and a nostalgic look back at the claymation series Davey and Goliath.Next, comedian Gary Owen joins Adam in the studio to talk about his stand-up special No S, their recent show at the Ryman with Kid Rock, and some hilarious run-ins involving David Hasselhoff. They also touch on the strange coincidence of Gary and his opener having daughters with the same name, and the idea of maintaining “plausible deniability” by avoiding other comedians' material. Gary shares stories about joining the Navy, and how he managed to serve while simultaneously hosting a TV show.Later, Adam, Gary, and Jason “Mayhem” Miller tackle some of the day's top news stories, covering everything from Catholic priests and Alcatraz to Smokey Robinson. The conversation wraps up with talk about Boba and Poke, Richard Dreyfuss' grandfather, and the film The Rock. TOM BENJAMIN chats to Paul Burke about LAST TESTAMENT IN BOLOGNA, British private eye Daniel Leicester, the porticos of the ancient city, Giallo, AirBnB and tourism in a university town. LAST TESTAMENT IN BOLOGNA: When an old man makes a bequest to investigate the mysterious death of his son, English detective Daniel Leicester follows a trail leading to one of Bologna's wealthiest families - makers of some of the world's most coveted supercars - and discovers that beneath the glitz and glamour of the Formula One circuit lurk sinister interests that may be prepared to kill to keep their secrets. Time and tide wait for no man - or woman - and while biology obliges one of Faidate Investigations' team to finally undergo a long-delayed operation, history catches up with another. Shadowing a suspect along one of Bologna's blood-red porticoes or mixing with the glitterati in the paddock at Imola, the English detective comes to learn in Italy the past not only has a long tail, but its sting can be deadly.Tom Benjamin grew up in the suburbs of north London and began his working life as a journalist before becoming a spokesman for Scotland Yard. He later moved into public health, where he developed Britain's first national campaign against alcohol abuse, Know Your Limits, and led drugs awareness programme FRANK. He now lives in Bologna. More effort doesn't necessarily mean better. There's always a smarter way to work in the arts. Patrick Muldoon grew up in San Pedro, 20 miles south of Hollywood. His father was a lawyer who dreamed of starting the Muldoon & Muldoon Law Firm, but after his first acting class, Patrick knew he would never be a lawyer; he wanted to be an actor. He starred in over 50 productions for film and television, and in 2008, Patrick took his first steps as an Executive Producer. As a producer, he was involved in multiple projects for megastars like Gerrard Butler, Salma Hayek, Martin Sheen, Mena Suvari, and Jeniffer Garner. More recently, Patrick produced and starred in "The Comeback Trail" alongside Robert De Niro, Tommy Lee Jones, Morgan Freeman, Zack Braff, and Eddie Griffin. In this episode, Patrick talks about the moment he realized he wanted to be an actor, his first acting job, and how he dealt with the fame that came early in his career. He also shares his approach to acting, how he gets ready before a scene or an audition, and how he dealt with rejection throughout his career. We also talk about fear and how actors can use it as fuel for performing better, Patrick's transition to the production side of Hollywood, what it takes to become a producer in the filming industry, and much more. Directing is not about being a dictator but about letting things happen. After selling a couple of scripts in New York but feeling burned by the lack of production companies, George Gallo decided to take his 800 bucks and try luck in Los Angeles. After knocking on many doors and a lot of cold calling, he sold MGM a script for a movie. He walked around with that 100K check in his wallet for a week before cashing it; he was worried if the check would clear. George breathes art; he is a writer, director, painter, and musician and has been married to the actress and producer Julie Lott Gallo for 38 years. As a director, George worked with Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, Tommy Lee Jones, Meg Ryan, John Travolta, Antonio Banderas, Robert Forster, James Caan, and Brendan Fraser, to name a few. He has created or directed all kinds of pieces, from action comedies like "Midnight Run" and "Bad Boys" to heartwarming tales such as "29th Street" and "Local Color." He was awarded "The Stanley Kramer Mad, Mad World Award" for comedy and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the "Monte Carlo Comedy Film Festival" for his film "The Comeback Trail," starring Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, Tommy Lee Jones, Zach Braff, Emile Hirsch, and Eddie Griffin. In this episode, George talks about his passion for writing and making movies and the relentless determination that helped him be where he is today. We talk about his directing style, his struggles with imposter syndrome, and what he believes is needed to succeed in Hollywood.
