The latest edition of the Providence Journal's college basketball podcast is here. This is Bill Koch, sports writer for the Journal. I'm joined as always by Nick Coit, sports director at ABC6 and the weekend co-host of Cordischi and Coit on WEEI Providence. Lots of ground to cover entering this holiday week. Bryant's men made history with a win at No. 10 Florida Atlantic, the first over a ranked opponent in program history (5:00). The Bulldogs followed up with a Monday win over Howard. Providence's men enjoyed a 2-1 stretch against three power conference opponents (14:55). The Friars split two games in the Bahamas, falling to Kansas State and rebounding to beat Georgia. The University of Rhode Island men were swept in two games at Mohegan Sun (24:00). The Rams stepped up in class against Northwestern and Washington State, falling twice in front of a good portion of traveling fans. Brown's men built some confidence against Rhode Island College and played USC to the wire on the road (34:00). The Bears showed what they have the potential to be over 40 minutes on court with the Trojans. URI's women won at Brown before coming up just shy on the road against North Carolina State (43:00). The Rams looked like a different team than the one that lost at Maine.  Brown's women are headed on a road trip after falling at home to URI (51:15). The Bears split games with the Rams and Providence at home last week. Bryant's women sit at 3-1 entering three straight games away from home (55:15). The Bulldogs outlasted Central Connecticut State and will play at Merrimack and at Florida International.  Providence's women have dropped two straight after winning their first two games of the season (60:10). The Friars were clipped by Brown before falling at home to Boston College over the weekend.  Happy Thanksgiving to all. Hope it's a day filled with family, great food and a side of college basketball. Thanks as always for listening.

Welcome to the latest edition of the Providence Journal College Basketball Podcast. This is Bill Koch, sports writer for the Journal. I'm joined by Nick Coit, the sports director at ABC6 and weekend co-host of Cordischi and Coit on WEEI Providence. Full week of topics in this one. We start with a coaching change -- Jared Grasso formally tendered his resignation with the Bryant men (2:50). The Bulldogs promoted Phil Martelli Jr. from acting head coach and signed him to a long-term contract (11:55). Brown's men are winless no more after taking care of Rhode Island College (22:20). The Bears lifted their spirits ahead of a weekend trip to USC. Providence's men are in the Bahamas and ready for a Friday night test against Kansas State (30:10). The Friars will face either Miami or Georgia in their second game of that event, and they're coming off an impressive home win against Wisconsin. The University of Rhode Island men will spend the weekend at Mohegan Sun (41:10). The Rams take on Northwestern and either Mississippi State or Washington State. They're 3-0 after another comfortable victory against Wagner. Brown and URI square off in the women's ranks on Friday night (51:40). The Bears host the Rams at Pizzitola Center, and each program is in a different mood. Brown has won two straight against Big East opponents -- including Providence on Wednesday -- while URI struggled in a surprising road loss at Maine. Bryant's women are home Friday night before hitting the road next week (62:10). The Bulldogs host Central Connecticut State sitting at 2-1, including an easy win at Stonehill.  Thanks as always for listening.

The FCS College Football Experience (@TCEonSGPN) on the Sports Gambling Podcast Network continues its FCS Conference Preview series for 2023 with the NEC Conference Championship preview. Pick Dundee aka (@TheColbyD) & Mike Rose (@GCG_Wins) break down their NEC Conference race projections and key in the upcoming 2023 season. Is this the year that Dan Curran and the Merrimack Warriors make the FCS Playoffs in their first eligible season? Will the St. Francis Red Flash and Chris Villarrial make it back to back NEC Championships?  Are we underestimating Jerry Schmidt and the Duquesne Dukes heading into 2023? Will Mark Nofri and Sacred Heart be a team to watch out for in 2023? Will we see Tom Massella and Wagner finally take the big jump? Will Ron Cooper and the Long Island Sharks stay red hot and contend for a NEC Championship this season? How will Adam Lechtenberg do in his first season at Central Connecticut State? Will Eli Gardner's Stonehill Skyhawk squad be a tough out week in and week out?  How will Cole Doyle and St. Francis do without their top players from a season ago? Is Gavin McCusker and Merrimack due for a big jump this season? Will Duquesne's Joe Mischler cut down on the interceptions in 2023? Will Stonehill's Ashur Carraha possibly be the best player in the NEC in 2023? Did the Wagner Seahawks win the transfer portal when they landed former UConn Huskies starting QB in Steven Krajewski? Could Romello Williams be a surprise player for the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State? Will Rob McCoy lead Sacred Heart to a NEC Championship?  Will Luca Stanzani and the Long Island Sharks be a sleeper to win the NEC? Is Malik Grant the overall best player in the Conference after rushing for almost 1,100 yards a season ago? Is Owen Glasgoe for Long Island the best tight in the NEC? Is QuaSean Holmes going to have a breakout season at St. Francis? Can Eric O'Neill have another double digit sack season with LIU? For the past several seasons, major television networks have shied away from giving Shane Beamer and South Carolina's Football program primetime television slots. This week, however, that's all starting to change, as the Gamecocks will have TWO primetime games within the first three weeks of the 2023 season against the North Carolina Tar Heels and Georgia Bulldogs. Andrew explains how they choices are indicative of the recognition Beamer and his team are getting for their progress and what the exposure could do for the program. He then gives some takeaways from Shane Beamer's recent comments on preserving the program's rivalry with the Clemson Tigers and what his thoughts are on a potential 9-game SEC scheduling model. But after 27 years of working his way up, Sellers finally got the call to lead his own program -- which happened to be his alma mater. Each Friday, Jeff Bidwell talks with a current or former Division I college basketball coach about their professional path. There are no overnight success stories in college coaching. We'll talk about the sometimes decades-long journey from the moment they wanted to get into coaching up to that first news conference introducing them as a Division I head coach.Follow on Twitter and Instagram at @AKAJeffBidwell.

At Saint Joe's, Coach Phil was a co-team captain in 2002-03 and played in two NCAA Tournaments. After his playing career concluded, Coach Phil went right to the sidelines. At the age of 22, Coach Phil was an assistant coach at Central Connecticut State. As a matter of fact, Coach Phil was the youngest assistant coach in the country at the time. Coaching stops at St Joe's, Delaware, Niagara, Manhattan, and the G League, Coach Phil has made quite an impact through the Northeast. In the opening minutes of this podcast, you will hear that Coach Phil loves being part of a team. And this concept of being a team truly resonates throughout this entire conversation. It is a great reminder for all of us. It is also truly special to hear Coach Phil talk about what makes Coach Grasso such a great leader at Bryant. Trust me, we are all going to follow the Bryant program. In addition, wait to hear the amount of respect that Coach Phil has when he talks about his dad, his mom, his wife, and his entire family. The freshmen had an opportunity to show what they can do and they made plays.  Freshman quarterbacks Tyler Van Dyke and Jake Garcia were both steady with distributing the ball. Athlete Case Study : Volleyball Ep13 The Only Way To Make Yourself Happy with Ning "Nikki" Zhao Ning Zhao doesn't mess around when it comes to strangers approaching her online but after a thorough background check on who I am (Ryan Jay Owens) with her former NCAA D1 coach, Chris POOLE, and a big thumbs up that I was not some crazy person she agreed to this interview with a lot of excitement! She's been waiting a long time to tell someone her story to hopefully inspire other athletes to be goal oriented and not just think sports can offer them everything. Sometimes you must also drastically change your surroundings, like she did moving from China as an 18 year old to the USA, to play at a strong school so her education would be strong as well as volleyball. BIO Ning Zhao or "NIkki" as many refer to her was born Aug 20, 1976 in Beijing, China. She started to play volleyball as a nine (9) year old (!!!!)... She made the Chinese junior national team which was only 12 of the best young players in China (## Billion people Populate China!) before quickly deciding at 18 years old to not pursue the Olympics... She decided to pursue making sure her future after volleyball would be happy, healthy and full of opportunity and accepted a full scholarship to study & play in the USA. She started at Central Connecticut State university but quickly changed to Barton Community College for 2 years where she was a 2x All American. In her final 2 years of school at U of Arkansas -Fayetteville they were ranked 15th & 8th in the nation as a team.. making the Sweet 16 the 2nd Round of the NCAA tournament. She was ranked the 9th best setter in NCAA D1 volleyball her senior year & is one of only 3 players to hold the record of 3000 assists. She was honored with SEC 1st Team & AVCA All American, Now she's "a full time mommy" of a 9yr old boy and 2year old daughter after benign off and on assistant coach for a few years after her collegiate volleyball career. She plans on possibly coaching in the future and/or assisting young Chinese players to get to USA schools to play sports.
