Make sure you sign up for the 21 Day Self-Love Challenge 5 Part Introductory Series in my Stan store linked below! https://stan.store/Jbirdfit In this week's episode we are going to discuss how to break free from the anxious and avoidant trap and find people who are more emotionally available. Question: Since I came across your videos, I often find myself thinking about how to break free from the anxious cycle that plagues my relationships. I make an effort to be clear about my expectations and communicate them openly with my partner, but despite these efforts, things often don't work out due to differing expectations. If this pattern persists, I wonder how I can overcome it and find people to date who are not avoidant. So let's talk about how to break free from the anxious cycle in relationships and find people who are emotionally available. I'm going to get this out of the way, and I feel like it goes without saying. Seek Professional Help Consider seeking therapy or counseling to work through your attachment issues with the guidance of a trained professional. Therapy can provide valuable insights and tools to help you navigate relationships more effectively. Now that everyone feels better because I said that understand that when you are in the comment section telling people you don't know to go to therapy it's a bad look for you. Take the time to consider that not everyone has access to therapy, can afford therapy, or resonates with therapy. So for everyone else, there is self-education and personal development which is also very valid and ultimately very empowering. You can also get a jump start on cultivating self-love by signing up for my 21 Day Self-Love Challenge Introductory Short Course in my Stan store. It's 5 short videos on the pillars of self-love and a great way to get introduced to some ideas and concepts that you may not have considered yet. At the end of that is a special offer. What are the steps in finding a more emotionally available partner? A big first step is cultivating self-awareness and taking time to reflect on your attachment style and past relationship patterns. What did your past relationships not only look like in terms of patterning but what did they feel like to you? Were you under high stress and anxiety that made you feel like you had lost yourself within the confines of this relationship? Understanding the origins of your anxious attachment and recognizing how it affects your interactions and how you relate with others is a massive step in your journey. Develop Self-Confidence Build your esteem by learning to make yourself a priority again or for the first time. You may have spent your entire life trying to do things for others as a means of being liked by them. All the while never asking yourself if you even liked them, they way they treat you, or the way they talk to you. So ask yourself, do I even really like this person and why? What do you admire about them? How does your body feel around them? How do you feel when you're apart? Engage in activities that make you feel good about yourself and challenge self-doubt. Get outside and move your body and remember that you can always take a walk with me! Life weights, do some yoga, chi gong, pilates, or whatever resonates with you but get moving! A simple 20 minute walk with focuses breathing has the power to change your entire day and you can compound that over time. Lean into your hobbies and interests. Those things that you were once able to get lost in for hours that were abandoned for others. Understand it's not only ok but necessary to learn to ask for what you want. So, Set Clear Expectations and Identify your needs in a relationship. Communicate them openly and honestly with potential partners to ensure alignment and avoid misunderstandings. It's also important to mention here to not date someone's future potential but see them for who they are in this moment. They may never become the person you are picturing in your head of who they will be to you in the future so ask yourself. If they never change, can I love this person as they are today 50 years from now? A common question that get's asked….Can you Recognize Avoidant Behavior? My answer, kinda. You can Educate yourself on avoidant attachment traits and behaviors but here is the caveat to that. Who are you being right now? Are you the most secure version of yourself you've ever been or do you already feel butterflies, excitement, and find yourself over thinking everything they say or do while planning for future events and ignoring poor behavior in the present moment that makes you even more anxious and waiting for your phone to light up or ding with the next text message so you can feel seen, heard, loved, and understood but then needing more text messages and attention because you constantly worry if they are going to reject or abandon you not realizing this is the behavior that can lead even secure people to become slightly avoidant and is the self-fulfilling prophecy. So, it goes back to self-awareness. How do you show up in relationships? Can you take ownership of that and recognize that your behavior contributes to potentially negative outcomes in your relationships? Healthy Boundaries Learn to set and enforce healthy boundaries in your relationships. Boundaries create a sense of safety and respect, fostering more secure connections. This is going to have to be another video on it's own but do you know your goals, values, standards, and boundaries for a relationship with you can do you honor all of that or allow people to occasionally cross a boundary? There will be time for compromise but that is something that is communicated clearly. When we allow others to bypass our boundaries they will lose respect for you and do it over and over again leaving you feeling less than. Take Things Slow Allow relationships to develop naturally and resist rushing into commitments. Give yourself time to assess compatibility and emotional availability. This is really the key. What pace do you set for relationships? IF you date people who are in alignment with your goals, values, and standards then setting a pace should be relatively simple. It's the people who don't respect that who aren't for you and sometimes we slip into trying to prove ourselves to keep someone who hits a lot of our preferences but you didn't realized that if you held your boundary you would get what you want or they would leave and what is for you would come in for you. I also imagine a no is saying yes to something else I just don't know what that is yet. Learn from Past Experiences Take lessons from past relationships and use them to grow. Analyze what worked and what didn't, and make adjustments accordingly. Instead of seeing things as happening to you, or this always happens, or I always date avoidants, just learn to extract the lesson. Don't take it personally. Know what's for you is waiting for you to learn the lesson so you can level up or rise up to meet them. Imagine if that's all you really had to do. Take the lesson, assess it, learn from it, grow from it, and not take it personally while knowing what's for you hasn't found you yet because you have a little work to do before you can actually see it. Sometimes, it's going to be what was always right in front of you and other times it's just right around the next lesson, the next corner. You're closer than you think. Remember, breaking free from an anxious attachment pattern is a journey, and finding a secure partner requires effort and self-awareness. You have to Stay committed to personal growth, and with time, you can develop healthier, more fulfilling relationships.
The concept of the Law of Attraction, as presented in the movie "The Secret" and the book "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill, suggests that our thoughts and intentions can influence the experiences and outcomes in our lives. It's the idea that we are like a magnet and attract into our lives what we are currently being. It's the way we think, act, and feel or our emotional setpoint. It the difference of seeing things as happening to you (Victim mindset) or happening for you (Take the lesson.) It's the words that we use with ourselves daily and how we tell the story of our lives to ourselves and to others. Although this idea may be seen as unconventional, it can still have a positive impact on one's mental and emotional well-being. Just like a magnet, our thoughts, actions, and emotions can attract or repel certain experiences. When we have positive thoughts and good intentions, we are more open to receiving what the world has to offer. This can lead to a happier, lighter vibration and a greater chance of attracting the things we want in life. However, many of us tend to focus on what we don't want, leading to negative emotions such as doubt, worry, and anxiety. To overcome this hurdle, it's important to focus on the lessons of past experiences and to ask yourself "Why not me?" instead of dwelling on negative outcomes. Keep in mind that the Law of Attraction is not a linear path and there will be ups and downs. It doesn't make you immune to negative experiences but by doing the work you certainly become more resilient. By responding positively to difficult situations and asking how you can do better next time, you can open yourself up to new opportunities and better outcomes. Remember that the universe may have something even better in store for you, even if it's not exactly what you had planned. Allow yourself to be focused more on the moment than a particular outcome that you desire. If you focus too much on the outcome and it doesn't work out the way you wanted it, you may miss the gift that particular moment gave you. 5 Tips to Overcome the Fear of Rejection Practice mindfulness and breathwork to take control of your nervous system and reduce the fear of rejection. Challenge and change your limiting beliefs about yourself and rejection. Start small by initiating conversations with people you're comfortable with, and gradually building up to more challenging interactions. Take ownership of your emotions and understand that rejection is not a reflection of your self-worth. Learn to detach from the outcome of a situation and focus on the process of what led up to it. We all have a fear of rejection in some area of our life, but we can overcome it by taking control of our nervous system through breathwork and by not being so attached to the outcome of a situation. It's important to remember that rejection is not a reflection of our self-worth, but rather a result of our attachment style and limiting beliefs. To practice overcoming the fear of rejection, try starting small by striking up a conversation with a cashier or someone you find interesting such as a mentor and take those interactions as a win even though it made you feel uncomfortable! As you do this more often, you'll feel empowered and gain confidence. Additionally, it's important to understand that rejection can be an opportunity for healing and growth, and it's not your job to convince someone of who you are. It's also important to remember that when someone leaves a relationship, it's not always a reflection on you, but rather an opportunity for them to heal their own unhealed trauma. How to overcome your limiting beliefs Start by becoming aware of the thoughts, feelings, and beliefs that are holding you back. What are they? Write them down. Once you've identified your limiting beliefs, take a step back and ask yourself if this is even true? What supporting evidence do you have for that? Once you've had the opportunity to digest your self-evaluation you can reframe the limiting belief of "I'm not enough" and reframe it to "I'm capable of amazing things." Be kind...to yourself! Give yourself grace and practice self-compassion. It's time to wire in new beliefs by counteracting the old ones with positive self-talk. Inventory your friend group. Who is in support of your goals, dreams, and desires? Do you feel supported in your friend group or with your family? Do you need to limit time with the people who bring you down? Finding Your Sexy with Kelcy Valletta For years, the messaging around self-love has often been tied to selfishness and self-importance. Even the words ‘putting yourself first' can hit in a way that feels selfish or hard to truly embrace. Though we know somewhere deep down that self-love is fundamental and impacts our relationships, career, and how we walk in the world, we often default to the needs and expectations of others. We could all use a little help with honoring ourselves and our bodies and not disregard our well-being and happiness to please others. Kelcy Valletta's mission is to help women love who they are, the body they are in, and practice self-love so that they can own their confidence and sexiness in their own skin. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Hear Kelcy's journey from the all too familiar struggles of early teenage disordered eating and body image challenges to finding, choosing, and knowing herself. Be inspired by Kelcy's passion for helping women be their authentic selves and find practices to keep caring for their relationship with self. Kelcy shares her ‘past life' as a film student, film maker, and actor living in LA before she became a certified self-love coach… you'll NEVER guess what her all time favorite movie is! First Lesson in Self-Love Like too many teenage girls, Kelcy found herself struggling through an eating disorder at 13. It took years and years to fully heal. It was during a time when people weren't talking about self-love or mental health, nor did we see different body types like we do today. Her motivation was eating healthy food, but as a teenager with little education and experience of what food actually does to our body and what our different bodies need, it became a fixation that had the opposite effect. In her recovery, Kelcy realized the importance of our relationships to our bodies. The True Power of Self-Love Kelcy continued to heal in her relationship with her body but later found herself in an emotionally abusive and toxic relationship. In the relationship, Kelcy was made to feel like she could not express herself freely. Near the end of the relationship it physically manifested in her jaw locking and she realized the toxicity and abuse of the relationship. A sudden feeling of empowerment and thought that she could no longer let him make her feel unworthy or like she was not enough. She held onto that thought, began choosing herself, and rebuilt herself. “I will never again compromise any part of who I am because I'm awesome. I have so much to offer and I need to be strong in that.” Tips for Successful Self-Love Knowing you are worthy of self-love. Easy to say but often hard for women to embody, especially moms. Giving ourselves time, money, attention, and energy feels selfish. Determine our love language for receiving love and practice it on ourselves. If we feel loved when given quality time, prioritize alone time and activities. If we feel loved when given words of affirmations, affirm ourselves. Learn how to set boundaries and get comfortable saying no. Common Blocks to Self-Love Believing it's selfish to have and practice self-love. Comparison to others or the appearance or life circumstances of our younger selves. Social media makes this difficult as people share their highlight reels and beautify with filters. Lessons and Outcomes of a 21 Day Self-Love Challenge Inspired by the idea that it takes twenty-one days to form a habit, at the beginning of 2021, Kelcy created the 21 Day Self-Love Challenge. It was eye opening to see and experience that there are an infinite amount of ways to practice self-love. Love of Podcasting Kelcy hosts the Find Your Sexy Podcast. Though she was terrified to invite women at first, now she gets so excited and loves to have the connections, friendships, and important conversations she gets to have weekly. She always feels honored that women would share their stories with her. Kelcy shares important topics and education In solo episodes. But, by far, Kelcy loves her conversations and interviews with women the most. Daily Non Negotiables Kelcy does not compromise her full 8 hours of sleep. If she does, it negatively affects her whole next day. . Currently, her irregular schedule between her full time job and Find Your Sexy, challenges her in prioritizing working out, but she's working on it. Eating her meals. Kelcy can be found eating all day long. Spending time with her dog in the sunshine regardless of the weather.
