Beyond the Diamond: Clearwater Little League's Impact Building Community Through Baseball

When a baseball connects perfectly with the bat and sails over the fence, there's a special feeling that stays with you forever. That magical moment—one that Clearwater Little League board member Amanda Cole hopes every child experiences—sits at the heart of our latest conversation about youth sports, community building, and creating future leaders.Fresh off our successful fundraiser that raised $3,500 for the league, Amanda reveals what makes Clearwater Little League special beyond the typical base hits and strikeouts. With over 360 players each season, their programs extend far beyond traditional baseball, including six Challengers teams that provide children and adults with disabilities the opportunity to experience America's pastime. Every fall, they host the statewide Challenger jamboree, welcoming teams from across Florida for a weekend celebration of inclusive baseball.Behind the pristine fields and impressive facilities lies a volunteer-driven organization tackling significant challenges. Hurricane damage last season forced the closure of five fields, while annual expenses—including a surprising $10,000 just for baseballs—require continuous fundraising efforts. Yet through careful stewardship, registration fees remain remarkably affordable ($35 for T-Ball), ensuring financial barriers don't prevent participation. The league provides equipment for newcomers and creates a supportive environment where players can develop confidence while building relationships with caring adults.Amanda's vision for the future includes doubling their softball program and increasing female representation in coaching and umpiring roles. However, with seven fields already booked from afternoon until night throughout the season, community support through sponsorships (ranging from $600 to $25,000) and volunteering has never been more crucial to their continued growth.Whether you're looking to register a player, volunteer your time, or support youth development through sponsorship, visit clearwaterlittleleague.com today to discover how you can help build brave, honest leaders who care about their community both on and off the diamond.

It's a really accessible take on the Language and Thought (Sapir-Whorf) debate, with some fascinating evidence and examples. Honourable mention goes to “Is That a Fish in Your Ear? The Amazing Adventure of Translation” by David Bellos. Favourite fact / idea – that being bilingual is the norm, not the exception in the world (over half the world's population speaks more than one language). Advice to a budding linguist – be as flexible as you can in how you think about language (and anything else really). There is so much room for fuzziness/variation/ambiguity in how we think about language, and seeing it in these terms (rather than trying to be too rigid and look for clean answers) is a great help in understanding the whole picture. Instead they advocate what amounts to linguistic anarchy with anything acceptable such as pronouncing "ask" as "aks" and dismiss any standardisation of usage as "prejudice". Unfortunately for the students, employers who are looking for articulate applicants with a good command of the language will be perfectly happy to exhibit such prejudice and to choose someone who does not use "like" a dozen times in almost as many words." Do you feel anxious? When does feeling anxious become an anxiety disorder? When do you seek help for your anxiety? What are the signs and symptoms for anxiety? What treatments and management is available for anxiety? Can practicing mindfulness help with anxiety? How can meditation help us? We live in a fast world, full of technology, overloaded by information and pressures coming from all directions and at times everyone men, women and children feel anxious. However have your feelings of anxiousness started to impact how you live your life and your relationships? As outlined by Beyond Blue, 'Anxiety is the most common mental health condition in Australia. On average, one in four people will experience anxiety. And in a 12 month period, over 2 million Australians will experience anxiety'. So if you are suffering Anxiety you are certainly not alone! And the sooner you are able to reach out and speak to someone the sooner people with professional help and support are able to help you recover and live a life less stressed and upsetting. Reaching out and speaking to someone is always a good idea, a trusted friend or family member and if you feel comfortable speaking to your doctor, a GP can help with assisting you with a referral to a Clinical Psychologist to perhaps discuss your concerns in more detail and what is worrying you and affecting how you live your life and your relationships. Please don't suffer in silence. Anxiety is commonly experienced by many people and finding people that can help generally starts with a conversation with a GP or pick up the phone and speak to healthcare professionals from Beyond Blue or Black Dog Institute. We speak with Clinical Psychologist Amanda Cole about Anxiety and answer many questions about why we feel anxious, when does feeling anxious become a problem that we really need to speak to a healthcare professional about when feeling anxious becomes an anxiety disorder. Amanda also explains to us about mindfulness and meditation and is there actually a difference? We also discuss can the practice of meditation help to manage anxiety? Amanda Cole privately practices in Ocean Reef and Dianella and is a specialist in MiCBT - Mindfulness Integrated CBT. I begin with an interview with Language Arts teacher, Amanda Cole.  We identify a few fears of failing in the classroom.  Discuss the pressure of failing that teachers have put on them in the classrooms. And advice on how to build your confidence if you are slightly struggling.  Sound quality is a little meh, but the content is gold.  I promise, I figured out how to use the equipment after this episode.

Hello to you... and happy Women's History Month! In our girl talk and give some context to what this month means to us, Shana was raised in a more feminine environment and Theresa a more masculine environment. Our whole show is actually all about women that are MAKING history NOW! Locally we have great events going on here in Kingston NY, you can check them out HERE. Our first guest today is Sharon Lindeman, musician, writer and energy healer. She studied dance and yoga in the 80's in California and then moved to NY with her then husband and opened the famed Small's Jazz club in NYC. She becomes moved to tears in this interview in speaking about the musicians that played their club. She has this beautiful concept of true strength, even physical comes from an open heart. Her humble spirit is a treasure to listen to in this rare interview! Our second guest is Amanda Cole, musician, writer, poet and filmmaker. She is currently telling her father's story of his failed music career after the 60's Woodstock concert and how this affected her own creative life in the documentary: Quill and the Man. She's struggled with identifying what to focus on and needing to find validation from others. She talks about finding community or building it, and how everything you need is right in front of you if you just pay attention! Self Care: Shana talks about the Third Agreement "Don't Make Assumptions" and Theresa talks about the new moon and to listen to your heart instead of your mind! Today's show was engineered by Manuel Blas of Radio Kingston, www.radiokingston.org. We heard music from Shana Falana, http://www.shanafalana.com/, and audio from the film, RBG, https://www.rbgmovie.com Feel free to email us, say hello: she@iwantwhatshehas.org, or leave us a voicemail: (845) 481-3429 ** Please: SUBSCRIBE to our podcast and leave a REVIEW wherever you are listening, it helps other users FIND US :) Follow Us: INSTAGRAM * https://www.instagram.com/iwantwhatshehaspodcast/ FACEBOOK * https://www.facebook.com/iwantwhatshehaspodcast TWITTER * https://twitter.com/wantwhatshehas ITUNES | SPOTIFY | STITCHER ITUNES: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/i-want-what-she-has/id1451648361?mt=2 SPOTIFY:https://open.spotify.com/show/77pmJwS2q9vTywz7Uhiyff?si=G2eYCjLjT3KltgdfA6XXCA STITCHER: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/she-wants/i-want-what-she-has?refid=stpr'

MACO Corporal Amanda Cole. In Season Three of Enterprise, the crew dynamic of the NX-01 was “enhanced" in a way that we had never seen before on Star Trek. Due to the dire circumstances that developed at the beginning of the Xindi Arc, we were introduced to an entirely new branch of service from the United Earth Government: the MACOs; a specialized military attachment with orders to safeguard the crew and protect the mission. In terms of the series, this infusion of secondary characters gave the audience an entirely new cast of faces and personalities to enjoy and explore!  In this episode of Warp Five, Team Conference Room continues our research into the MACOs, with an in-depth look at Corporal Amanda Cole, played by actress Noa Tishby. Cole was seen in only a few minutes of the Season Three episode Harbinger, as Trip's new romantic interest and was the catalyst for sparking jealousy in T'Pol; a clear sign of her increasing emotional instability as the mission pressed further into the Delphic Expanse. Please join us as we discuss Amanda Cole's (albeit brief) role on Harbinger and her future potential for the series. HostsNorman C.
