The hot topic at any racing organization's meetings is “How do we bring new owners into the sport?” For anyone who has experienced the thrill and satisfaction of seeing their horse hit the finish line first in a race at any level – the exhilaration is hard to explain – but it is “your” horse, alone or in a partnership with friends. The highly respected WinStar Farm is opening the door to participation as an owner with some of their well-bred individuals getting ready to race. So how do you get in on such an exclusive ownership opportunity with a top-notch farm? Mary Cage, the WinStar Stablemates Director, will join us to explains the ins and outs of joining the partnership. This weekend is the swan song for Belmont Park before the action moves up the Hudson River to Saratoga. Before the vans hit the toll booths, there will be some great racing there this weekend and we are bringing out “The Beast of Belmont,” known as “The Big A” – Anthony Stabile. Since spending his youth alongside his parents working with horses on the NY circuit, he has developed into a top handicapper and on-air racing analyst making regular appearances on HRRN (Horse Racing Radio Network). “The Big A” will join John to look at two major Invitational races that has drawn top turf performers with an international flair. In the G1 Belmont Derby at 1 ¼ miles on the turf, trainer Todd Pletcher wanted to move Sainthood to the grass for his last start in the Pennine Ridge (G3), but the race came off the turf and he won easily. Before that, he was 11th in the Kentucky Derby, his only finish outside the exacta in five starts this year. Du Jour is a former Bob Baffert trainee who will make his first start for Bill Mott. He won the American Turf (G1) last out at Churchill Downs. Bolshoi Ballet would make his first North American start after compiling a 6: 3-0-1 record in Europe. The G1 Belmont Oaks at 1 1/4 miles on the grass will feature 3-year-old fillies. The 1-2 finishers in the Wonder Again (G3) meet again here. In that 1 1/8-mile race, Con Lima bested Plum Ali by half a length to pick up her fourth win of the year in six starts. This is only the third start of the year for Plum Ali, who finished third in the Appalachian (G2) in April. Not all of the big races will take place going long on the green. The Grade 3 Victory Ride will be contested at 6 1/2 furlongs for 3-year-old fillies. Australasia is 6-for-6, with all but one of those wins coming this year. This would be her first graded-stakes start. Red Ghost is 2-for-2 this year after winning the Miss Preakness (G3) by a nose. Tim Hamm trainee Dayoutoftheoffice – second in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies – has not won in three tries since the Frizette (G1) in October, but has put in solid efforts in each start and may be dangerous going 6 ½ panels.

The second entry in our Musical May series is yet another notorious (but actually beloved) box office bomb, Josie and the Pussycats! We're joined by Haley Schreirer to discuss all things Pussycats! Just why did it take so long for Shelby to watch this movie? Why was this movie so absolutely hated in its day? Do we need to serve justice for Tara Reid's acting career? Does this movie have ties to Mitski's album Be The Cowboy? Did this movie radicalize an entire generation of children? And WHY are we talking about Trolls? PLUS Skye attempts to guess the plot of Mike Nichols' last feature Charlie Wilson's War in this week's What The Plot? segment. The good, the Riverdale, and the DuJour of it all on this week's episode!

Hello, I'm Em. And yes, I'm a podcast host. No, I said cappuccino. I'm here to talk to you about something very important. And no, it's not about me or my podcast. I'm here to talk about subliminal messages in rock and roll music. Or as it's simply known in some cultures, 'rock music'. You see, for years the government has been wisely coercing teenagers to buy products they normally wouldn't want, just to get their money. Fact! Kids don't have bills to pay. Fact! They don't pay taxes. But! They do babysit and hold minimum wage jobs that earn them wads of cash as substantial as, well, my body of work. But kids today aren't dumb. They're not gonna buy just anything. That's why the government has been planting small subliminal advertising suggestions in today's rock music. The results? We can now get these kids to buy just about anything. We can have them chasing a new trend every week. And that is good for the economy. And what's good for the economy... is good for the country. So God bless the United States Of America - the most ass-kickin' country... in the world! And god bless Josie and the Pussycats! (Let's hope this episode isn't a "take the Chevy to the levy" situation. Du Jour means seat belts! Du Jour means crash positions!) It's a Moving Panel Monday!! To kick off 2021, Laramy and his wife Bethany discuss the "rarely known as a comic book movie"... Josie and the Pussycats! Take a walk down memory lane as Laramy and Bethany discuss this "time capsule" of the early 2000s. Bethany shares her love for the movie, the soundtrack, and the characters; while Laramy points out the hypocritical nature of the film and how the film didn't really have an audience. Though the connections to the comics are faint, Laramy will provide the background to the Josie comic from the world of Archie Comics. Bethany talks about her dislike of one of the characters and how this movie didn't need a love interest. And both of them laugh about the product placement and DuJour. Influence is a business and there’s no one right way to do it. If you’ve ever wondered how full-time “influencers” create income, there’s not just one way and no two influencers are the same. On last week’s Beyond Influential with Christina Galbato, we looked at one way of creating a full-time influencer business. This week, you’ll get to see a different perspective and business model in a similar arena. NY-based influencer and blogger, luxury travel expert, and beauty product hoarder, Lindsay Silberman joins me to give an inside look at how she organically created a business out of the passions and skills she was using in the publishing world. She was already an influencer before she was an “influencer” - when she was writing for publications like Town & Country, Vogue, The Wall Street Journal, GQ, Architectural Digest, DuJour, and others. Lindsay did not hold back in this interview - we got deep into details like: Her journalism career: How she opened doors to writing for some of the largest publications, and the skills that helped her succeed after Her transition from journalist to social media influencer: When she knew it was the right time to go full-time & How she left without burning bridges Brand Deals & Partnerships: How to develop organic relationships with brands you love & pitch them on a collaboration the right way Why you need to treat the influencer game as a business & getting brands to take your seriously Why she still responds personally to her DMs Behind the scenes of her content creation process & monetization strategy: Instagram, branded content, her blog & more! We certainly don't, but "Josie and the Pussycats" makes it all seem fun. It's cute, quick, funny, satirical, and oddly on point. It has a great cast, solid premise, and a lot of laughs so grab some wine and watch it with us! We paired it with a rose by Band of Roses. I'm not saying you have to do that but it's recommended for those legally able to do so. Movie Sync Notes: We start the movie 3:48 into the pod and push play on part two at 56:48. Du Jour means watch the movie with us.

People from the Midwest are modest. Humble. They have a reputation for being hardworking and loyal. They don't put on heirs and don't enjoy watching others do it either. So what happens when you're an entrepreneur selling to Midwest consumers and investors? Is it more difficult to sell your product service or business concept to Midwestern sensibilities? Or do you wind up having to sell yourself (or your personal brand) first to get potential relationships built? We wanted to know... Is it harder to sell yourself or your brand?Lunar Startups is a new model for startup incubation specializing in growth, connection, and innovation for women, people of color, and other high potential entrepreneurs. To learn more or apply for a future cohort go to lunarstartups.org Lunar Startups would like to extend a special thank you to the Glen Nelson Center at American Public Media, Knight Foundation and Osborn370 for their continued support. For HumorOutcasts.com this episode is an interview with Barbara Hammond who is the author of, “daddy DU JOUR – A revolving door of step-fathers, bad parenting, and happily ever afters.” As the subtitle of the book indicates, the subject matter of “daddy DU JOUR” is also varied. It chronicles the impact of various home dynamics in relation to the childhood and life of Barbara. Her story is a journey of overcoming life’s obstacles and ultimately reaching a sense of peace having traveled so far. Also comes the greater good of learning from life’s hardships and being better equipped to manage those circumstances for better life decisions while finding one’s own path in life.

"Du Jour means teamwork!" You know the feeling. You have a ridiculous internal affair with a movie. You’ve seen it a dozen times. You laugh at all the right places and cry when it ends. But alas, you are alone. Your friends don’t understand you. They shun you. They malign your tastes. You suffer in silence. It is in that spirit that Tommy Handsome brings you No, No, Wait! Hear Me Out! The latest Next Reel Short is a chance to right a wrong in the world by building a case that a movie you think you’re supposed to hate actually has some value. This month, it’s Josie and the Pussycats, Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan directing. This B-list film about a C-list comic book band actually offers some A-list comedy, says Tommy. Starring Rachael Leigh Cook, Rosario Dawson, Tara Reid, Alan Cumming, and Parker Posey, this cast manages to deliver a level of insight into consumer culture that punches well above its weight. So join us on this maiden voyage of No, No, Wait! Hear Me Out! and let your shame drift, drift away with three… small… words… Film Sundries Watch this film: iTunes • Amazon Script Transcript Original theatrical trailer Original poster artwork Flickchart Letterboxd
How many times does this happen to you? You are walking down the street dressed in a sari, a man stops you, asks who you are, tells you your bar is his favorite in America and wants to open one in India? Well, it happened to Anne Frey owner of 1 Tippling Place and she is here to tell us more. 1 Tippling Place is exactly the way Anne Frey wants it to be. She planned it that way. She longed for a local of her own and now there are going to be two: one in Philadelphia and one in Mumbai. After a trip to the UK, she fell in love with its cocktail culture and thought it would do well in Philadelphia. With help from Robin Honhold, now of White Lyan, and Dave Tang, a protégé of Sasha Petraske of Milk and Honey, she created a bar worthy of its neighborhood, the über-chic Rittenhouse Square. [caption id="attachment_7754" align="alignright" width="400"] Photo source: 1 Tippling Place[/caption] Everything is freshly made – syrups, juices, bitters - and ice is hand-cut! This constant attention to detail has been recognized by Food & Wine (24 Best Cocktail Bars in US), Roca Patron (People's Choice 100 Best Bars in America), Maxim, Chilled and Dujour magazines. (All you Vodka drinkers, don’t worry she has kept it on the menu, unlike a few snobbier places out there.) Now Anne is off to Mumbai again, after a extremely successful pop-up bar, to recreate a 1 Tippling Place in one of the busiest cities in the world. We can’t wait to hear all about it when she returns. Watch Chris Zingler of 1 Tippling Place make his Apple Bottom Gin Where you can hear me drinking next: The Greeks have been drinking Mastiha since Hippocrates was the Surgeon General. Why is it only now that we non-Greeks are enjoying its benefits. Next time on Best Sips, George Economides not only an Oxford Grad in Advanced Quantum Mechanics and a Full Blue in Dancesport but also Co-Founder and General Manager of Mastiha World, introduces us to the spirit has been around since the 5th century BC. That's right, it's another drunk B****Pop! In this episode, Robin, Jessica, and Katie Tregs watched Strange Magic and Josie and the Pussycats, two movies with Alan Cumming in them. One was great, and one was ALSO GREAT. Drinking game rules for Josie and the Pussycats (Courtesy of Lights, Camera, Alcohol!): Any sexual innuendo Any time singing starts Any time someone says "Du Jour' (Two drinks for "Du Jour means ___") "___ is the new ___!" Finish your drink when White-Ass Wally and Lisping Lisa fall in love. We also each had our own Pussycat and had to drink when they did a specific thing, much like we did in our Spice World podcast. Listen and enjoy! We love what we do and hope you do, too!
