Rising fuel costs over the past number of months may have lead to some of you thinking whether the time has come to make the switch to electric vehicles. But what about the haulage sector? Is the technology there for electric trucks that could take freight across the country? For more on this we heard from Dr Eamonn Mulholland is a Senior Researcher with the International Council on Clean Transportation.

#podcast #jatp #Trucking #hgv Welcome back to Just Another Trucking Podcast! This week, Tom and David find themselves "trucking adjacent" as they dive deep into the polarizing world of electric vehicles. Tom shares his first-hand experience going all-electric with his new Toyota Urban Cruiser, debunking range anxiety myths and discussing the bizarre sensation of a car that drives itself.Meanwhile, David's wife, Christa, joins the show to provide an "expert" perspective from the insurance world, leading to a heated debate on whether we actually need pickup trucks or if we are all just living in a world of "what ifs."Highlights from this episode:The "Annoying PCB" Prank: We read a viral story about a boyfriend who planted a beeping device in his girlfriend's closet during her first week of work. Is it psychological warfare or just an objectively funny prank? The Terminology Deep-Dive: Things go off the rails as we discover the specific terminology of the queer community. We settle the age-old question: Is David a bear or an otter?Stardew Valley Scandals: Can you really be jealous of an NPC? We explore the strange reality of partners demanding divorces in farming simulators.Public Toilet Terrors: Tom recounts a highly uncomfortable 4:00 AM encounter in a South London lay-by that has him questioning personal boundaries.Whether you're here for the technical truck talk, the Minecraft farming tips, or just to hear us argue about heated seats and hockey romance, we've got you covered. So let's strap down, let's strap in, and let's do this.http://patreon.com/JATP to support our channel.Check out Salmonslap.com to buy merchIf you are new to our Trucking Podcast, our hosts all have their own Youtube channels; Tom from Expect For Access, Chloe from Skip ChickDavid from My Trucking Skills.Tom and Chloe have their class 1 licenses and drive their HGV in the UK. What happens when the person who knows how to tow has to leave — and you're left with a 5,000-pound Airstream, an electric truck, and 800 miles of Oregon coast ahead of you? On this episode of Unpacked, host Aislyn Greene shares the story of the eight-day road trip she and her wife Jeannie took down the Oregon coast in August — towing an Airstream Basecamp 20 XE with a Rivian Tri-Motor R1T, with exactly zero towing experience between them. What was supposed to be a fully sustainable cycling-and-camping trip with friends became a crash course in trailer physics, EV charging, and the unexpected generosity of the RV community. In this episode you'll learn How Aislyn and her partner, Jeannie, went from zero towing experience to navigating a 5,000-pound Airstream down 500 miles of Oregon coast—and what actually made it possible The RV community secret nobody tells first-timers: once you've parked, everyone sits back and watches you do it Why the Rivian R1T's onboard charging calculator made range anxiety a non-issue, even towing a trailer across eight charging stops What Fort Stevens, Nehalem Bay, Cape Lookout, and Sunset Bay State Park each taught them about slowing down and asking for help The case for traveling in a way that forces you to rely on strangers—and why it felt especially powerful right now Plan your own Oregon coast trip Stay at the campgrounds we loved: Fort Stevens State Park, Nehalem Bay State Park, Cape Lookout State Park , and Bay Point Landing in Coos Bay. In this episode, our guest is Manav (CEO), Alpna and Adwitya—the co-founding team—of Driven, who are tackling one of the biggest barriers to electrifying heavy transport: financing. They explain how Driven enables fleet operators to adopt electric buses and trucks through a leasing model, bundling vehicles, charging infrastructure, and service guarantees. The conversation explores why heavy vehicles are difficult to finance, how data from EV fleets helps manage risk and improve operations, and why large commercial fleets represent a major opportunity for decarbonizing transport. California just threw in the towel on yet another virtue-signaling mandate - this time their electric truck requirement for private fleets. Surprise, surprise! Turns out you can't just wave a regulatory wand and magically transform an entire industry overnight. Who could have seen that coming? We break down how California's Air Resources Board had to eat crow and repeal their zero-emission purchasing rule after realizing their power grid can't even handle current EV demand, let alone a mandated fleet conversion. Meanwhile, trucking companies were being told they'd need enough electricity to power half a city just to charge their rigs. The same state that tells people not to charge their cars during heat waves wanted to mandate electric semis by 2035.This is the third major California green mandate to bite the dust this year alone. When will politicians learn that good intentions don't override basic infrastructure reality? Are we finally seeing the end of California's regulatory overreach, or will they just double down with even more unrealistic timelines?Hit that subscribe button if you're tired of watching taxpayer money get wasted on feel-good policies that ignore economic reality. Like and share to spread some common sense!
The US loves trucks. So is the key to making them love electric trucks… a very small one? That's the bet that California-based startup Telo has been making since its inception in 2022. The company has designed a bite-sized truck called the MT1 with an admittedly not-so-small starting price of around $41,000. Also, Sila, the battery materials startup, started operations Tuesday at its facility in Moses Lake, Washington, a milestone that could pave the way for longer range, faster charging EVs. The factory, which will initially be capable of making enough battery materials for 20,000 to 50,000 EVs, is the first large-scale silicon anode factory in the West, and future expansion could fulfill demand for as many as 2.5 million vehicles. The last couple of weeks have actually been kind of slow, when it comes to the craziness of trucking so I don't have any really dramatic stories from the road. However, now that Break Safety Week has come and gone I do talk about how it affected our fleet. Leave a comment and let me know what your experience was like. What to Expect in Episode 185 It's a pretty normal reaction to be scared of the unknown. Just like Dorothy, the Tin Man, and the Scarecrow were scared of the unknown that lurked in the forest as they journeyed to Oz, changes lurking in the trucking industry can be scary too. I thought it would be interesting to talk about some of the topics that seem to be getting a lot of attention these days. Here's how this episode breaks down. Electric Trucks I talk about my experience driving an electric vehicle for the last 7+ years and how I think it relates to trucks. Driverless Vehicles My Tesla has the "Full Self Driving" feature. It's good, but I think it's going to be a while before we see anything of any significance in capability and quantity in the trucking world. Craig and I talk about why. The English Proficiency Mandate A recent crash in Florida that killed 3 has brought this topic to the forefront of the highway safety discussion. Craig and I talk about some of the specifics and how this has the potential to have a significant impact in the not too distant future.
