Mythic
John Selig | Stolen Fires: Myth and the Creative Process

Mythic

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 17, 2026 52:38 Transcription Available

In an Instagram Reel, John Selig described this image — Mount Etna as a cosmological diagram: Typhon pinned underneath, his rage powering the volcano; Hephaestus at the forge above, that same rage transmuted into craft; Prometheus chained on the side, the fire bringer who suffered for giving us what the gods had kept for themselves; and Zeus at the crown, not a creator of fire but the one who directs it.It set my imagination ablaze!John's handle is @stolenfires_. That name tells you everything about his approach: myth is Promethean fire, meaning held by the gods and waiting to be taken — not as belief, not as doctrine, but as a lens you can actually use. What he wants is for you to leave the conversation with something in your hands. We spent this episode inside Greek myth as a living, working system. We examined the Theogony as three successive orders of creation — and why Zeus's is the first one generative enough to let everything be born, even the monsters. We read the Odyssey as the story of a man who cannot go home yet because his unconscious won't let him — the sailors as impulses that thwart the ego until it's ready. We talked about what happens to a culture that runs entirely on Athena consciousness while Poseidon goes ignored. And we talked about creativity, perfectionism, and what myth can do for people who are stuck. What We CoverWe use Prometheus — the fire-bringer who stole meaning from the gods and handed it to ordinary people — as the lens for this conversation. Along the way we explore:Stolen Fires and What the Name Actually Means. The name is two things at once: a cosmological statement about myth as Promethean fire, and — as someone pointed out to John recently — an accidental description of a mythology hot-take platform. He didn't plan that second meaning. The Trickster did. The core idea: myth holds meaning the way the gods held fire. John's work is the theft.Myth Doesn't Require You to Believe Anything. Myth and history are not the same category. Mythologizing history breaks it. Historicizing mythology breaks it too. One lives in the world of the imaginal; the other is the world of record. You can work with myth — let it illuminate your life, your psyche, your moment — without making a single metaphysical commitment.Typhon, Hephaestus, and the Shape of Shadow Work. Zeus didn't destroy Typhon. He pinned him under Mount Etna, where his rage powers the volcano — and Hephaestus's forge sits at the top, transmuting that same rage into craft. Integration instead of obliteration. The energy doesn't disappear. It gets redirected. That's the shape of shadow work, and it's also the shape of the creative process.Satan and the Cultural Shadow. Monotheism needed a bucket for everything that didn't make the approved list, and Satan is what it built. A lot of what ended up in there isn't all that bad — it's just human. The qualities most associated with the mythic Satan map cleanly onto basic features of human nature, and the Greco-Roman roots of the image run deeper than most people realize.Three Orders of Creation. The Theogony gives us three successive cosmological regimes, each more generative than the last. Uranus won't let anything be born. Kronos swallows his children rather than risk displacement. Zeus frees everyone and starts an order in which everything gets to exist — including the monsters. The Greek pantheon is so crowded because Zeus's order requires it to be.The Sailors as Unconscious Impulses. The sailors in the Odyssey aren't named or characterized because they're not really separate people — they're the unconscious impulses that keep thwarting what the ego says it wants. Odysseus doesn't reach Ithaca until they're all dead. The friction isn't always the enemy. The sailors may be telling him something he isn't ready to hear yet.Athena Consciousness, Poseidon Consciousness, and What We've Left Out. Ian McGilchrist's hemisphere theory maps onto the Greek gods: Athena as the rational, ordering, left-brain mode; Poseidon as the holistic, oceanic, right-brain mode. We've built a civilization that runs almost entirely on Athena consciousness while Poseidon goes unaddressed — and John thinks the epidemic of depression among his generation follows directly from that.Spirituality and the Brain. The part of the brain that activates depression is the same part that activates spirituality. When the spiritual mode is engaged, it becomes physiologically impossible to be depressed. This isn't a spiritual claim. It's neuroscience. And you don't have to believe in anything to get there. The Tyranny of Heaven. Uranus and Gaia: heaven and earth, the ideal and the actual. Heaven wants the thing to be perfect. Earth wants the thing to exist. Any version of something is necessarily not every version of something — which is obvious, and is still the exact mistake most creatives make constantly, holding the work hostage to what it could be until it never becomes what it is.Chapters00:00 Welcome00:03:49 The Name Stolen Fires00:04:56 Myth Without Belief00:05:42 Typhon, Prometheus, and the Volcano00:06:53 Satan and the Cultural Shadow00:08:30 How the Volcano Became a Map00:10:17 Zeus as Air, Not Fire00:11:30 Three Orders of Creation00:18:29 Into the Odyssey00:19:31 The Sailors as Unconscious Impulses00:21:57 Odysseus Isn't Ready for Ithaca00:26:42 Myth Is Fractal00:34:20 The Modern Mind and Its Limits00:35:10 Meaning, Depression, and the Missing Lens00:41:45 Spirituality and the Brain00:48:05 The Myth and Creativity Course00:49:05 The Tyranny of Heaven00:50:10 Where to Find JohnMemorable Quotes“The trick with myths is to not take them literally and to turn them into lenses that you can then look at your own life through.” — John Selig“Typhon is put underneath Mount Etna, and his fiery rage powers that volcano and then Hephaestus's forge is at the top, turning that rage, alchemizing it into something beautiful.” — John Selig“That's how it feels to do shadow work, to channel your grief into something creative, to face a part of you that you don't wanna face. Welcome to the Gnar Couch Podshow, where the intros are confusing, the hosts are unqualified, and the only thing steeper than our local trails is the price of a Deer Valley cookie. In this episode, we prove once again that no one should be taking mountain bike life advice from people whose greatest accomplishment is surviving a group chat roast. This week, the crew kicks off with the usual banter about whose life is falling apart the fastest (spoiler: it's a tie). Rob almost spits his beer everywhere, Perri brags about being a “spool carrier” like that means something, and Cheef tells traumatic cat stories that somehow end up with broken Corvettes, dead cats, and an existential crisis about Miatas. We fail to get through the intro without getting distracted multiple times (classic), thank our sponsors with the enthusiasm of people who definitely don't deserve them, and then drag CJ (“Neat Girl” herself, CJ Selig) back into the chaos for another round of questions she probably regrets answering. Topics include: CJ's wild re-entry to Virgin after Rampage, where she brings her Czech friend to Utah for a crash course in heatstroke and massive terrain anxiety Inside gossip about Rampage: why all the lines are basically a mosh pit, how to fail at finding enough rocks, and the pure joy of rolling big rocks down cliffs while TV producers have an aneurysm A masterclass on bombing desert ridges, eating shit, and pretending you're not terrified because the camera crew is watching CJ's wrist x-rays, failed attempts at breaking the internet (or just her arm), and the motivational power of just yelling “Rampage!” at yourself until something “cool” happens More cat trauma, way too much information about how to dispose of cactuses, and at least two dog shoutouts (plus something about German paperwork, whatever) Plus, Cheef and JP spend half the episode arguing who is stronger, CJ lists off sponsors like a guy on The Price Is Right, and everyone ignores the agenda to talk about BMX tricks that make us feel like toddlers on Striders. We end by pretending to answer real listener questions, plugging our Patreon for the 37th time, and debating who our favorite guest is. CJ shouts out Haro Bikes, we thank our moms, and promises are made to tell more inappropriate stories in the Patreon bonus hour. If you wanted an actual mountain bike podcast, you're in the wrong place. If you want to hear why none of us should have a driver's license, own power tools, or give motivational advice to anyone, subscribe, tune in, and prepare to regret it.* *No cactuses were harmed in the making of this episode. MD Selig's path to truth seeking began in the cockpit of a combat jet over Iraq, where what he witnessed in classified Desert Storm briefings directly contradicted the weapons of mass-destruction narrative being broadcast on CNN. In this episode, he makes the case that humanity has been subject to a pristine, generational mind control campaign, one so effective that even thousands of documented videos of craft like the Phoenix Lights can vanish from public consciousness without a trace. We explore how a small cabal of ruling families has maintained control through media, war, and suppressed extraterrestrial technology, the mechanics of the Secret Space Program including alleged abductions, mind wipe technology, and why so many whistleblowers are coming forward with eerily similar stories that they can no longer stay silent about. The conversation also ventures into humanity's multidimensional capabilities, why fear based narratives are the cabal's most powerful weapon, and how the most radical act of resistance isn't outrage or debate, it's going inward, opening the heart, and reclaiming the extraordinary power that already lives within each of us. Where to find MD Selig: mdselig.com Instagram: @Real.MDSeligSend a textSupport the showLove the show? Most of us spend the first half of life building. The second half, if we're paying attention, is when we start asking whether we built the right things.   Rand Selig is back on the show and a lot has changed since his first appearance two years ago. What started as a few early conversations has since grown into 100+ interviews and the continued success of his book Thriving, which he recently narrated as an audiobook.   Rand spent much of his career running his own investment banking firm. Now he's turned his attention to the questions that tend to matter most in life's later chapters: relationships, legacy, and what it looks like to truly live well.   You'll hear about: How a simple habit made him a better listener (and changed everything) The self-reflection practice he uses to actually measure his own growth What finally pushed him to start writing Thriving Why your purpose doesn't have to be big to be meaningful The real difference between success and thriving Why curiosity is one of the best predictors of a good later life   Resources Website: www.randselig.comLinkedIn: Connect with Rand

In this inspiring episode of 5 Minutes of Peace, we're joined by special guest Rand Selig, who shares reflections drawn from his book, Thriving: How to Create a Healthier, Happier, and More Prosperous Life.Rand opens with a powerful metaphor: there are two wolves inside each of us—one fueled by joy, love, and happiness, and the other fueled by anger, hate, and greed. The question is simple, but life-changing:Which wolf are you feeding? From there, Rand speaks directly to something many people quietly carry: the moment when success on paper no longer matches how you feel inside. Even with growth, productivity, and accomplishment, you may feel disconnected, drained, or unsure whether this is what “making it” was supposed to feel like.Rand reminds us that true thriving doesn't always come from a new strategy—it often begins with deeper self-awareness, emotional healing, and honest inner work.In this episode, Rand explores:How to redefine success beyond money, titles, and external outcomesThe difference between being busy and being fulfilledWhy purpose isn't something you “find,” but something you createHow small acts of meaning, done consistently, can transform a lifeThe power of language and how simple vocabulary shifts can change your mindset (like “I have to” vs. “I get to”)Why thriving requires conscious choices, not autopilot livingA memorable question to reflect on: Who is driving your bus?Rand closes with an uplifting invitation to live with courage, openness, and presence—encouraging listeners to choose love, take responsibility, and step fully into the life they want to create. To learn more about Rand and his work, visit randselig.com or connect with him on LinkedIn at linkedin.com/in/randek.Thank you for listening, and thank yourself for taking 5 Minutes of Peace. This podcast is created by The Peace Room in Boise, Idaho. What if thriving wasn't about having more, but about choosing differently? Rand Selig has spent a lifetime studying growth, leadership, relationships, and what it truly means to live well. With decades of global experience in business, service, and personal development, Rand believes thriving is not accidental. It's the result of intentional choices made over time. This episode explores how self-reflection, forgiveness, resilience, and personal responsibility shape the quality of our lives. Through thoughtful dialogue, Rand Selig and Chuck Thuss unpack why thriving starts with the relationship you have with yourself, how setbacks can become turning points, and what it takes to stop living on autopilot and start authoring your own story. Guest Bio Rand Selig holds an MBA from Stanford and dual undergraduate degrees in mathematics and psychology. For over 35 years, he has led his own financial services firm while living and working across Europe, Asia, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Deeply committed to personal growth, service, and environmental conservation, Rand created Thriving! to help others embrace meaningful, positive change. Ralph welcomes J.B. Branch (Public Citizen's Big Tech accountability advocate) to discuss some of the sectors that Big Tech is disrupting with artificial intelligence. Then, Steve, David, and Hannah speak to Russell Mokhiber about the latest issue of the Capitol Hill Citizen. Finally, Ralph speaks on the legacy of the late Rev. Jesse Jackson.J.B. Branch is the Big Tech accountability advocate for Public Citizen's Congress Watch division. He leads Public Citizen's advocacy efforts on artificial intelligence accountability, consumer data and privacy rights, tech product safety, platform oversight, and child online safety protections. What's happening is these AI companies are taking a page out of the playbook of the social media days. When social media was brand new, they were trying to say that this technology is going to lead to people being more connected, it's going to lead to efficiencies, it's going to lead to overall positives. And in fact, there were times where you had big tech CEOs who were saying that a lot of this money was going to trickle down. And you look down, and you look up, and I'm not any richer because Facebook stock is soaring or Microsoft's is soaring. What we're really seeing is the same thing that's happened with these large tech companies—which is that they promised the world, they offer back very little, and in fact, what they offer up is a series of harms.JB BranchCongress has been really bought into AI. They're buying into this idea that it's a race for the world between us and China. So you have some congressional folks who believe that this is a race against China and that we need to harness this weapon. And then you have a lot of corporate money from these AI companies…They're dumping a lot of money into congressional races, to ensure that they're propping up candidates who align with this deregulatory scheme.JB BranchRussell Mokhiber is editor of the Corporate Crime Reporter and the Capitol Hill Citizen. He is also founder of singlepayeraction.org, and editor of the website Morgan County USA.I see [the Capitol Hill Citizen] philosophy along a couple lines. One is that it's not left right, it's top down. We consider both political parties corrupt to the core, but there's a rising tide of activism against both parties, against the institutional parties. And so, for example, in the current issue, we bristle against those who are what we call “negativo”. We're very “positivo”. So while we're living in very difficult times, there's a rising tide of activism challenging members of Congress, both current members in Congress as citizen activists and also as candidates…And so what we're seeing is this up-down resurgence from the bottom—populists of all stripes rising up against the technocratic billionaires who've brought us to this state.Russell Mokhiber[Jesse Jackson] was an advocate of non-violence, of self-reliance. And the amazing thing about him is how he appeared everywhere. I mean there was nothing remote about Jesse Jackson. He appeared everywhere. If the farmers were being driven into bankruptcy by agribusiness, he was there. If there need to be prisoners released in foreign countries, he was there… The thing that most people didn't realize is how much personal pressure he was under by his opponents. In those days, challenging certain conditions that we don't even know about now because of Jesse and other civil rights leaders' works, really upset the power structure. And they didn't take it lying down. So all these places he went to, he was very much under great pressure.Ralph NaderNews 2/20/26* Our top stories this week concern the continuing fallout from the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. First, the Columbus Dispatch reports Republican Senator Jon Husted of Ohio accepted more than $100,000 from Epstein associate Les Wexner. Husted's opponent in his reelection campaign, former Ohio Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown, blasted Husted for accepting this money and implied that Wexner's donations pushed Husted to initially vote against releasing the Epstein files. In damage control mode, the Husted campaign announced they would donate Wexner's campaign contributions to charity. Wexner himself appeared in front of the House Oversight committee this week. Wexner denied any wrongdoing, claiming that Epstein “conned” him and called him a “clever, diabolical … master manipulator.” Democrats on the committee were skeptical, with Congressman Robert Garcia stating “There is no single person that was more involved with providing Jeffrey Epstein with the financial support to commit his crimes than Les Wexner,” per the Hill.* In related news, the New York Times reports Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, has been arrested for misconduct stemming from his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. Specifically, he stands accused of passing along confidential information to Epstein while the disgraced former prince served as a British trade envoy. His brother, King Charles III is quoted saying he supports a “full, fair and proper process” to investigate these claims. The Times notes the striking disparity in the official response from law enforcement in the U.K. versus the U.S., writing, “The British authorities have moved aggressively to investigate the possibility of crimes emerging from the three million pages of correspondence with Mr. Epstein… police in the United States have not.”* Meanwhile in Los Angeles, prominent entertainment executive and sports agent Casey Wasserman has drawn fire from many LA politicians, including City Controller Kenneth Mejia, L.A. County Supervisor Lindsay Horvath, City Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez and fellow Councilmember and mayoral candidate Nithya Raman over his ties to Epstein lieutenant Ghislane Maxwell, as revealed in the latest tranche of files. High-profile clients of Wasserman's agency immediately began to abandon the firm. High profile deserters include pop star Chappell Roan and Olympic gold medalist Abby Wambach. Wasserman announced he would sell the agency shortly thereafter. However, Wasserman still chairs the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics Committee. This week, LA Mayor Karen Bass weighed in to call Wasserman's behavior “abhorrent” and say that while she cannot fire him, it is her opinion that he should step down. Astonishingly, the LA28 board announced after a review of Wasserman's conduct that he should remain on as committee chair. This from LA Magazine.* Speaking of local boards, this week New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced the appointment of six new members of the Rent Guidelines Board, including a new Chair. With these six appointments, comprising two-thirds of the total board, Mamdani is poised to deliver on one of his key campaign promises – a rent freeze for tenants in rent-stabilized apartments. These appointees range from experienced civil servants to academics to union organizers, among others. This is a major victory for Mamdani, and comes at a key moment when other items on his governing agenda are being challenged by budgetary constraints due to long-term mismanagement of the city's finances.* Another rent-related story comes to us from Minnesota. CBS reports the tenants union Twin Cities Tenants, along with five labor unions totaling over 25,000 workers, are calling for a statewide rent strike to pressure lawmakers to enact an eviction moratorium. This comes in the context of Operation Metro Surge, the federal government's sprawling immigration enforcement action which resulted in the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. As this piece notes, many residents of the Twin Cities stayed home from work during the operation, out of fear of being detained, resulting in many tenants being short on rent ahead of March 1st. According to an analysis by the University of Minnesota renters in the state have racked up between $27 and $51 million in rent debt since the onset of Metro Surge. This in addition to the average statewide rent debt of $44.6 million in any two-month period.* Turning to Gaza-related news, this week saw major updates in the legal drama of Palestine Action in Britain. On February 13th, AP reported that the country's High Court ruled the government acted unlawfully by outlawing Palestine Action and deeming it a terrorist organization. The Judges said that Palestine Action's activities did not meet the “level, scale and persistence” that would justify a legal proscription. However, the court allowed the government to keep the ban in place pending the government's appeal. The group was banned last June after breaking into a Royal Air Force base to protest the slaughter in Gaza. Despite this ruling in the group's favor, which came on the heels of a ruling dismissing charges against six Palestine Action activists, the BBC reports those activists will be retried by the government over their alleged role in causing damage to an Elbit Systems facility near Bristol. Charges against 18 other defendants accused of participating in the break-in will be dropped.* Meanwhile, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem and one of the Catholic Church's highest officials, was asked to comment on President Trump's proposed Board of Peace, the international body intended to oversee the governance and reconstruction of Gaza. Pizzaballa replied “What do I think of the Board of Peace? I think it is a colonialist operation: others deciding for the Palestinians.” The Patriarch added “They asked us to enter. I've never had a billion (dollars),” referring to the $1 billion price for a permanent board seat, but “above all, this is not the Church's task: It is the sacraments, the dignity of the person.” This from OSV News. Pizzaballa has long sought self-determination for the Palestinians alongside peace in the region, even putting his own life on the line for that cause. Just after the October 7th Hamas attacks, Pizzaballa offered to exchange himself for the Israeli hostages in Hamas custody.* And in East Asia, NBC reports ousted South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has been found guilty of insurrection over his failed self-coup plot, which involved storming parliament and imposing martial law. The South Korean high court stopped short of accepting the prosecution's request for the death penalty – which they justified using the case law derived from the execution of King Charles Stuart of England in 1649 – and instead sentenced Yoon to life in prison. Decrying the verdict, Yoon's lawyers called the trial “nothing more than a mere formality to reach a predetermined conclusion.” Yoon has the right to appeal the ruling. Given the failure of American institutions to check the creeping authoritarianism in our political system, it is awe-inspiring to see it happen in a country that has struggled with authoritarian rule in its much more recent past.* Turning back to domestic news, Mike Selig, the chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) posted a strange video this week, claiming that “American prediction markets have been hit with an onslaught of state-led litigation,” and announcing that the CFTC will launch a legal campaign to block states from regulating sites like Polymarket and Kalshi by asserting that such regulation is the sole purview of the Commission. In the video, Selig argues that these sites “provide useful functions for society by allowing everyday Americans to hedge commercial risks, like increases in temperature and energy price spikes…[and] serve as an important check on our news media and our information streams.” A number of states have taken action to regulate prediction markets, including Nevada, along with Arizona, Michigan, New York and Illinois, to name just a few. One powerful constituency pushing for state-level regulation of prediction markets is the traditional gambling industry. Adam Greenblatt, CEO of sportsbook BetMGM, thundered in a recent interview “They pay no state taxes, there are no consumer protections, there are no penalties for underage play.” This from Axios.* Finally, we pay tribute to activist, civil rights leader, and political forefather of modern multiracial progressive politics, the Reverend Jesse Jackson. Jackson, who passed away this week at age 84, was a protégé of Martin Luther King and ran groundbreaking presidential campaigns in the 1980s assembling the “Rainbow Coalition,” which sought civil rights for racial and ethnic minorities and the LGBT community alongside a sweeping anti-poverty agenda. In the 1990s, Jackson was elected Shadow Delegate and then Shadow Senator for the District of Columbia. In the 21st century, Jackson took on an elder statesman role in progressive circles, continuing to lead the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition and attending major protest events – including the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests and 2024 pro-Palestine encampments – even after his Parkinson's diagnosis in 2017 and multiple COVID-related hospitalizations. Since his passing, Jackson has been eulogized by a host of prominent political figures, including Donald Trump, Curtis Sliwa, Bernie Sanders, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, the Clintons, Reverends William J. Barber and Al Sharpton, the descendents of Martin Luther King, longtime Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa among many others. Like Ralph Nader, Jackson remained a leading light of the American Left during its lowest ebb in modern history. He followed his own iconic exhortation to “keep hope alive.” The least we can do is to carry on this legacy. This has been Francesco DeSantis, with In Case You Haven't Heard. Guy's Guy Radio with Robert Manni

Paul Selig is one of the foremost spiritual channels of divine wisdom working today. Thirty years ago, he was made clairvoyant by a spiritual experience that began his connection to beings of higher intelligence called “the Guides.” In his breakthrough works of channeled literature, Selig has recorded a program for personal and planetary evolution, guiding us to awaken to our own divine nature. In his newest book, DIVINE UNION: The Essential Path to Oneness (St. Martins Essentials, Selig channels what may be the Guides' most important teaching to date: I am in union with the Source of all things. This book teaches readers to move beyond their inherited and clung-to ideas of separation in favor of unity, cohesion, and peace. Though it may seem inevitable that humans will build walls between one another and fear those who appear different from ourselves, the Guides promise a future in which true connection and union is achieved. Once we realize that all humans are beings through which the Divine flows, fear-based separation will crumble, clearing the way for a better world. DIVINE UNION shows us that the Guides' message is nothing short of revolutionary: humanity is at a time of reckoning, and we must face ourselves and our creations in order to recognize the shared divinity within us all. Paul Selig attended New York University and received his master's degree from Yale. A spiritual experience in 1987 left him clairvoyant. Selig is one of the foremost contributors to the field of channeled literature working today. He is the author of Beyond the Known: Realization and the Mastery Trilogy. He offers channeled workshops internationally and serves on the faculty of the Esalen Institute. He lives in Hawaii where he maintains private practice as an intuitive and conducts frequent livestream seminars. Find out more on his website https://paulselig.com/

What happens when a decorated Marine combat pilot, squadron intelligence officer, Hollywood insider, and bestselling starts asking questions about UFO disclosure, government secrecy, and psychological operations? This one goes deep. The conversation goes far beyond "aliens." In this episode, M.D. Selig — author of the international bestselling thriller Hush — joins the show from a boat in the Pacific to unpack the uncomfortable intersection between military intelligence, narrative control, and the shaping of public perception. Drawing from his background in military intelligence and storytelling, he breaks down how narratives are engineered, why timing matters, and how institutions manage information during moments of public tension. We explore the possibility that disclosure itself may not simply be about revealing truth — but about controlling the context in which truth is received. From military information warfare to media framing, from MH370 to 9/11, this discussion pulls on the threads that connect secrecy, perception management, and long-term narrative control. This episode isn't about sensationalism. It's about examining how institutional power shapes what we're allowed to see — and what we're conditioned not to question. If you're interested in UFO disclosure, psychological operations, state power, military intelligence, or the broader war over reality itself, this conversation will stay with you Topics Covered: ·       The real story behind "UFO disclosure" — and why timing matters ·       Psychological operations (psyops), and how narratives are engineered ·       The architecture of state secrecy and perception management Military intelligence and information warfare Government secrecy and institutional power structures Media framing and engineered consensus ·       The disappearance of Malaysian Flight MH370 ·       9/11 and long-tail information control ·       Deep state dynamics and institutional power patterns ·       The blurred line between fiction, classified reality, and power ·       Speaking out publicly after serving inside the system   For more info: Web: http://www.mdselig.com   As always, please hit the subscribe button if you like and support what we do! In this podcast, Greg Voisen hosts Rand Selig—a "relentlessly positive" entrepreneur, conservationist, and Stanford MBA—to explore the profound difference between simply succeeding and truly thriving. Selig, the author of Thriving: How to Create a Healthier, Happier and More Prosperous Life, challenges the "defeatist attitude" often fueled by modern chaos, offering instead a "powerful compass" for those facing transitions or seeking deeper fulfillment. Through the captivating metaphor of "driving your own bus," he dares listeners to stop living on autopilot and start deciding exactly where their journey goes, how fast it moves, and—most importantly—who is allowed to come along for the ride. If you have ever felt like the earth is constantly shaking beneath your feet, this episode reveals how to build a foundation of vitality that stands the test of time.

In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, Avik sits down with MD Selig, a former Marine combat jet attack pilot, historian, filmmaker and author of the novel Hush. They unpack what it means to live inside real conflict, sift through war narratives, intelligence briefings and media spin, and still choose to let the heart lead. MD explains how flying combat missions, reading top secret intel and watching mainstream news side by side pushed him into a crisis of truth that logic could not solve. He shares how turning inward, using love as a compass instead of control or fear, changed the way he understands darkness, hidden histories and humanity's future. If you are feeling overwhelmed by global chaos, conspiracy noise or your own inner storms, this conversation offers a grounded reset. Not spiritual bypass. Not toxic positivity. Just a clear invitation to come back to your own heart and move from there. About the Guest: MD Selig (Michael David Selig) has lived multiple lives in one. He is a decorated Marine combat jet attack pilot, former intelligence officer, historian, musician and filmmaker with work appearing on Netflix, Showtime and Amazon Prime. He is the author of Hush, a novel that blends covert operations, Roswell research, dark hidden histories and spiritual questions into a cinematic story where love is not a slogan, it is the final force that drives everything. MD's core message is simple and inconvenient. You cannot think your way out of a world on fire. You have to feel your way through it, with the heart as your primary compass and the mind as the decoder, not the other way around. Key Takeaways  :   Head vs heart in a chaotic worldMD describes trying to make sense of war using only his mind. Combat missions, secret intel and 24/7 news all told different stories. That cognitive overload pushed him toward the only stable reference point he could trust. his own heart. Darkness as context, not destinationThe research behind Hush dives into Roswell, covert programs and unsettling histories. MD is clear that the goal is not to glorify darkness or fear. It is to see reality clearly enough that we can choose love from an honest place, not fantasy or denial. Media narratives vs lived realityDuring Desert Storm, MD watched CNN coverage that did not match either the missions he flew or the top secret briefings he read. That three way mismatch woke him up to how easily public narratives can be shaped and why internal discernment is non negotiable. Love as operating system, not sentimentFor MD, love is not a soft emotion you wait to feel. It is the core identity underneath the noise. When you move from that identity, your decision making, research, relationships and responses to crisis all shift into a different gear. Your heart as the only reliable compassWhether you are evaluating a leader, a story, or a friend. MD insists your heart can feel what is real. Words and data may look convincing, but your body and intuition will tell you when something is off. That internal calibration is a competitive advantage in a confusing world. Future may intensify, but the assignment stays the sameMD believes the collective moment may feel heavier before it gets lighter. His advice is blunt. brace yourself gently, stop outsourcing your sanity to headlines, and keep returning to love as your base setting. That is how you stay steady while systems shake.
