The remix geniuses from Almighty are back in this second edition of their Best Of. In this set, I've used a lot of their high energy club mixes from the late 90's and 2000's. This particular time in their anthology was filled with punchy club mixes that had a higher BPM with lots of synth builds and drops. There is a good spread of songs from original artists as well as cover versions, all of which have been given stellar extended mixes. Featured are hits from Cher, Pet Sop Boys, Ricky Martin, Kylie Minogue, Evelyn Thomas, Christina Aguilera and Katy Perry to name a few. I did put a different version of "Perfect Day" on this edition as I love that song so much. I also included two classic songs from Donna Summer. Part 2 of the Best of Almighty rounds out over three decades of dance floor anthems produced by some of the best remixer's in the business. Crack open the champagne. Mardi Gras Anthems is celebrating it's 21st edition in March 2024 with 21 featured artists. The annual Sydney Mardi Gras party falls on the first weekend of March this year so in readiness for that, I'm releasing this milestone edition in advance. This set epitomizes the term "Anthems" with tracks from legendary divas such as Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Kelly Clarkson,  Deborah Cox, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, Madonna and the list goes on. Résumé Style musical qui a littéralement explosé les charts occidentaux à la fin des années 70 et durant les années 80, la High NRG est un dérivé machinique du disco, particulièrement présent sur les scènes nocturnes gays. Ce sont les mêmes principes linéaires et répétitifs mais avec des rythmiques plus rapides. Essentiellement composée de synthétiseurs et de boîtes à rythme, qui est programmée à l'aide de séquenceurs analogiques. Même si son histoire a été ternie par une véritable tragédie, c'est dans l'émancipation que l'on trouve ses racines, puisqu'elle épouse la trajectoire ascendante de la culture gay, fière de s'afficher et de la culture club, du moins sa version "moderne", comme on pourrait l'entendre aujourd'hui. Bon nombre d'acteurs de cette scène croisée vont ainsi s'épanouir : Patrick Cowley, Ian Levine, Sylvester,Evelyn Thomas, Pete Waterman, Divine ou encore Pete Burns. Un seul mot d'ordre : la fête libre et sans complexe. C'est ce leitmotiv qui permet d'expliquer l'évolution de ce style musical, de son succès à partir de 1981 à sa propagation au travers d'autres styles de musique électronique des années 90. I went back into the archives and pulled a show at random. See back then all my shows were just named randomly which didn't really give anyone any hint as to who and what the show was about. I was fairly new to podcasting and just wanted to get my ideas on the air. This is a breath of fresh air to see the random interview I choose was the one with my mother, Evelyn Thomas, my son as Co-Host, Armando Ramos, and my daughter Kezia who was 7 at the time. Wow! After much hair-tearing, sleep deprivation and overall frustration — Party Favorz is finally back with volume 2 of The Essential 80's Dance Mix. I only say this because I was trying to pick up a great variety of the biggest dance hits of the era but it's not as simple as it sounds. I had mentioned in my previous post how musical styles tend to spill over into the following decade before the actual defining sounds appear by the fourth year going forward — I had forgotten about the Hi NRG boom of the early part of the decade. This sound adapted the synthesized nature of music that had been previously dabbled with by the likes of Giorgio Moroder, Cerrone and even Peter Brown.  By 1980, it hit its stride with the remix of Patrick Cowley's 1980 remix of Donna's Summer's "I Feel Love." Patrick went on to lead the genre with multiple club hits like "Menergy," "Megatron Man," and the era-defining sound of the gay movement "Do You Wanna Funk" by Sylvester (which is included in the Trash Disco Series). Tracks like Paul Parker's "Right On Target," Evelyn Thomas "High Energy" (which was the basis for Frankie Goes To Hollywood's "Relax"), Miquel Brown's "So Many Men, So Little Time" and a multitude of others. The problem I have with these tracks is not that they didn't define a movement throughout the decade but that the production values wore poor if not downright cheesy and didn't really quite fit in with the music that defined the era. Most of them were on independent labels that didn't have the budget for quality productions. Almighty Records has done a remarkable job of updating many of these tracks, which have been featured on my Hi NRG series. Regardless, I may go back and whip up a single set of the original versions of the biggest tracks from this era. They not only defined the gay community but provided the soundtrack to the era that spawned AIDS, which devastated our community. These songs represent a soundtrack to a certain place and time deserve to be honored in their own right. If anything, Patrick Cowley deserves to be honored for the movement he helped create as he was one of the earliest victims to die from AIDS in 1982 before it even had a name. Sylvester died from the disease in 1988. As for this second set of 80's dance music classics, I think I finally hit my stride while still mostly keeping to my original mission of mixing up the commercial alternative and pop-hit dance tracks. It may be odd to hear Michael Jackson right next to When In Rome but it works. Many of these tracks have been remastered by yours truly from their vinyl counterparts. As such, you may hear some clicks throughout but that only lends to its authenticity. There are a couple of things I do want to point out. Madonna's "Into The Groove" was shortened because there's an entire section that's a repeat but Hot Tracks thought it wise to overlap different sections of the song, which I found jarring. I just took it out altogether shortening the mix, which keeping everything still intact. Also, Whitney's "Love Will Save The Day" had a lot of issues but there weren't really any remixes of this track other than the housed-up Jellybean and Morales take, which does not belong. There is a minor skip in the second verse but it's hardly cringing worthy. Usually, I can fix these if it's repeated elsewhere but that was not the case here. I'm running behind on these so I may very well have to put the remaining two sets off until November as well as the Junior Vasquez Legacy set I had promised. We're already heading into the middle of October and I need to get out the next Dance Club and Circuit Tribal House set before Halloween. No worries. I'll get everything done — it's just that my timelines have changed. Until the next time...ENJOY! Fatback Band - Backstrockin' Edit By Petko Turner The Fatback Band (later, simply Fatback) is an American funk and disco band. Most popular in the 1970s and 1980s, The Fatback Band is most known for their R&B hits, "(Do The) Spanish Hustle", "I Like Girls", "Gotta Get My Hands on Some (Money)", "Backstrokin'" and "I Found Lovin". Their 1979 single "King Tim III (Personality Jock)" is sometimes considered the first hip hop single. Formed in New York City in 1970, The Fatback Band was the concept of Bill Curtis, an experienced session drummer, inspired to merge the "fatback" jazz beat of New Orleans into a funk band. In addition to Curtis, the band's initial line-up included guitarist Johnny King, bassist Johnny Flippin, trumpet player George Williams, saxophonist Earl Shelton, flautist George Adams, and keyboardist Gerry Thomas. The band specialized in playing "street funk". The group also later included conga player Wayne Woolford, vocalists Jayne and Gerry, Deborah Cooper saxophonist Fred Demerey, guitarist Louis Wright and George Victory. The Fatback Band signed to Perception Records and had a hit single that summer with "Street Dance". The single reached the Top 30 on the US Billboard R&B chart, but failed to cross over to the pop chart, a pattern the group would follow for the rest of their career. The band released the albums Let's Do It Again, People Music, and Feel My Soul before signing to Event Records in 1974. In the mid-1970s, the band incorporated jazz elements and moved more towards a disco sound resulting in the singles, "Keep On Steppin'", "Yum, Yum (Give Me Some)", and "(Are You Ready) Do The Bus Stop". The singles proved popular in dance clubs, but did not do as well on R&B chart until the spring of 1976 when "(Do The) Spanish Hustle" came close to the Top Ten. "(Are You Ready) Do The Bus Stop" birthed the development of line dancing.[citation needed] Now recording for Spring/Polydor, the group continued with the singles, "Party Time", "The Booty", and "Double Dutch". Late 1977 brought a name change to Fatback, and in 1978 they found their first Top Ten single with "I Like Girls". The song "King Tim III (Personality Jock)" is often considered to be the first commercially released rap single, having shipped just a week before The Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" in October 1979.[2] In 1980, Fatback had a pair of their biggest hits with "Gotta Get My Hands On Some (Money)" and "Backstrokin'". Also finding the charts in the 1980s were "Take It Any Way You Can't It", "I Found Lovin'", and "Spread Love", with singer Evelyn Thomas, in 1985. Whilst American pop success proved elusive, the group made regular appearances in the UK Singles Chart, including the Top Ten twice with "(Do The) Spanish Hustle" and "I Found Lovin'".[3] Keyboardist Gerry Thomas was simultaneously a member of The Jimmy Castor Bunch, so the band elected to remain close to the New York area instead of extensive touring. They had substantial success in South America, especially in Brazil (with "Money", and "Backstrokin'").

I am sending messages through songs I've written and produced along with songs, tracks and remixes by artist and talent that I have such great respect for. Among the many familiar and classic tracks, I have created and added new tracks that I hope will join the classics ranks. Originally, the T-Dance version of Beach House was going to be two very long mixes, but I decided to go ahead and break it up into three.  Granted, anyone with a little know-how can stack each one right after the other because the whole thing mixes flawlessly.  I spared nothing in this mix and you can rest assured that you're getting the latest and greatest from this summer's house music scene.  All the usual suspects are included: from top-notch producers like DJ Spen and the Muthafunkaz, Richard Earnshaw, Mark Picchiotti, Joey Negro, Moto Blanco and 7th Heaven to top-notch talents like Lisa Shaw, Heather Johnston, Michelle Weeks, Dawn Tallman, Shena and newcomer Mishal Moore, you will want for not.  Granted, you may notice that DJ Meme is nowhere to be found.  That's because his remix of "Sittin' on Top of the World" by the Sunburst Band doesn't show up until next week.  Such is life.  I've also included a fabulous Frankie Knuckles remix of "Rock with You" the closest I'll come to honoring the memory of Michael Jackson. While the overall tone of this first mix is pretty subdued and laid-back, I jolt you back into reality with an updated version of Evelyn Thomas' classic 'High Energy' courtesy of the always fabulous Almighty Production team, late in the mix.  I employ a similar tactic in mix three just to keep people on their toes. Overall, this is one fresh and funky mix with a lot of soul that's perfect for relaxing around the pool or at the beach.  I'll try to get everything out by Friday, but I'm not making any promises.  Until then.enjoy!
