What does it really mean to take care of our mental health? Beyond diagnoses and therapy sessions lies the everyday work of nurturing our emotional well-being—a practice we often overlook until we're approaching burnout.During Mental Health Awareness Month, I wanted to share some hard-won insights about what mental wellness actually looks like in our daily lives. Through a recent experience where my brain immediately jumped to worst-case scenarios about a simple meeting with my boss, I demonstrate how even when we're doing well, our mental health requires ongoing attention. That primitive "lizard brain" response doesn't disappear; we simply get better at recognizing and managing it before spiraling. For those of us with codependent tendencies, this journey presents unique challenges. When you're accustomed to prioritizing everyone else's needs, simply asking yourself "what do I need today?" can feel foreign or selfish. Yet that question has transformed from feeling indulgent to essential in my own healing journey. Mental health isn't about fixing something broken—it's about consistent, compassionate self-care through small daily acts: saying no without over-explaining, allowing yourself to rest before exhaustion forces you to stop, or taking five minutes to breathe when overwhelmed. The myth that strength means never needing support has caused untold damage. True strength lies in vulnerability—in acknowledging when you can't do it all alone. You don't need to wait for a crisis to deserve attention to your mental well-being. Like tending a garden, the small acts of care you provide yourself today create the foundation for resilience tomorrow. This Mental Health Awareness Month, I invite you to join me in normalizing everyday mental health practices. You are worth that care.Send me a messageSubscribe to my newsletter for more information on when my new workbook, Enough As I Am, will be available on Amazon.

In this episode, we sit down with Stefanie Augustine—corporate sustainability consultant and founder of Satyam Yoga—for a soul-stirring conversation that blends modern-day mindfulness with ancient yoga philosophy.Stefanie shares how yoga has become a powerful tool for cultivating presence, resilience and inner peace in a fast-paced, overstimulated world. We explore what it truly means to live grounded—from reconnecting with your breath and body, to embracing daily rituals that support mental clarity and emotional balance. But this episode goes beyond the mat. With nearly 15 years of experience in corporate sustainability—including work with Volkswagen, Audi, and global consultancy firms—Stefanie brings a unique perspective on how personal well-being and planetary well-being are deeply intertwined. We unpack what sustainability really means (beyond just recycling), how businesses can become forces for good, and how individuals can make small yet impactful changes in their own lives.Stefanie also shares her personal journey of relocating from Germany to Australia, reflecting on the cultural shift she experienced—not just in lifestyle, but in the different approaches to yoga practice. While yoga in Germany often leans towards a more spiritual and traditional focus, in Australia she noticed a stronger emphasis on yoga as a form of fitness, inspiring her even more to advocate for the deeper, holistic roots of the practice. If you're craving more calm, clarity, or connection—or are curious about living more consciously both inside and out—this conversation is filled with insight, warmth, and practical wisdom.Stefanie Augustine, sustainability consultant, lecturer and yoga teacher.Stefanie's journey brings together two lifelong passions: creating a more sustainable world and living with deeper inner awareness. After more than a decade working in corporate sustainability with major companies like Volkswagen and Audi, Stefanie discovered that real, lasting change begins within. Her search for a more meaningful life led her to traditional Indian yoga, where under the guidance of her teacher Som, she found a path rooted in authenticity, presence, and holistic living.Today, Stefanie lives in Australia, where she combines her work as a freelance sustainability consultant with her passion for sharing yoga through Satyam Yoga. She offers online classes, leads retreats in India, and helps people reconnect with themselves and the world around them.Whether guiding businesses or individuals, her vision remains the same: to inspire grounded, conscious living for a more fulfilled and sustainable life.Connect with Stefanie online:www.satyamyoga.netwww.stefanie-augustine.comhttps://www.instagram.com/satyam_yoga_community/Check out our Patreon for exclusive bonus content and gold nuggets from this episode: www.patreon.com/c/IntoYourLifeWatch the podcast on YouTube here: https://bit.ly/IYLPodcastYouTubeAnd don't forget to subscribe to our fortnightly newsletter to receive insights on how to find more life in your life from our amazing guests: subscribepage.io/IYLPodNewsletter

How do you find hope and personal empowerment in the face of war and political unrest? According to Lea Endres, the CEO of NationBuilder, democracy is the least violent form of government currently known to humans. It's a system. It's also an idea. And it lives in our imaginations. Research shows that when citizens are actively engaged in showing up for their community, it can actually turn the tide in countries that have slid into authoritarianism. Human beings will not endorse or advocate for violence against another group until they have dehumanized that group. Dehumanization is a prerequisite for violence. Lea reminds us that we each have personal power and agency. When institutions fail, it's actually civil society that can bring us back into a healthy balance. For our second live podcast series, we reimagine democracy as an everyday practice of listening, speaking, and asking questions in a new way to humanize one another and build our muscle of empathy. Tune into this raw, inquisitive conversation with our live audience, the Gratitude Blooming team, Jim Herr from the Democracy Center, and Lea Endres from NationBuilder.Enjoy the captivating intro and closing beats of the Taiko drummers from On Ensemble to notice more fully with your heart.
