Today, I'm talking with Gary Smith, CEO of the networking company Ciena. You probably aren't familiar with Ciena — the company isn't really a household name. But every internet user has relied on the company's products; Ciena makes the hardware and software that makes the fiber optic cables connecting the world light up with data. That's everything from local fiber networks for broadband ISPs to the massive undersea cables that connect continents. There's a high probability that this very podcast came to you over a Ciena network, in fact — the company is everywhere. That means almost every single Decoder idea is right here, sitting on the backbone of the internet. Parasti to asociē ar naudu. To viņš minējis, komentējot iespēju iegādāties dažādas preces ar animācijas darba personāžu atveidojumu.

'Duh' was a common phase when I was an adolescent. Kids used it in a not-so-nice way to let the other person know that what they were stating was obvious. In all of my years in customer experience management, it never occurred to me to consider the impact of partnerships on CX. If you think about it, it's a 'duh.' On today's show, I'm excited to introduce Theresa Caragol, who has authored Partnering Success: The Force Multiplier to Achieve Exponential Growth. Theresa shares powerful insights on how to move beyond “random acts of partnering” and build intentional strategies that drive meaningful business outcomes. Other key topics include: Why strategic partnerships are essential to delivering exceptional customer experiences. Common misconceptions leaders have about partnerships and how to uncover gaps in their strategies. Welcome to today's market analysis session, where we simplify trading and turn strategies into tangible profits. In this video, we dive into the latest insights and strategies, using advanced data analytics to identify lucrative trading opportunities and minimize risk. First, we examine the SPY (S&P 500 ETF), which continues to show a strong buy signal as of July 11th. The SPY is holding a profitable position with the 10-day moving average above the 20-day and the price well above the 50-day moving average. This indicates a bullish trend in the market, suggesting that the momentum is likely to continue. We also review the broader market sectors. Most sectors are displaying bullish signals, except for staples. Notably, utilities, which had previously been bearish, have recently turned bullish, indicating a significant recovery. This shift creates a range of opportunities for new trades. Several stocks are highlighted in today's analysis: XLF (Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund) – XLF is currently in a stable position, but our heat map analysis points to an exit strategy. The stock has moved from G14 to G16, and we plan to close our position in XLF tomorrow, hitting our exit target. FI (Fiserv) – Fiserv has shown strong performance, and we are closing this position today. We initially bought it at $9.07 and are selling it at $6.99, realizing a profit of 23.86% per contract. This trade has contributed a 1.97% growth to our portfolio. CIE (Ciena Corporation) – We're also closing out of Ciena. We entered the position around $5.85 and are exiting today at $7.85, achieving a 34.11% gain. This trade has added a 2.94% impact to our portfolio. XLB (Materials Select Sector SPDR Fund) – XLB continues to perform well, and there are no immediate signals to exit. We are maintaining our position as it shows promising growth. RF (Regions Financial) – This trade was placed recently and is progressing as expected. We are holding onto RF for now, targeting our goal of G29. In addition to managing existing positions, we explore new trading opportunities. After running a market scan, we identified several candidates: Cube (CUBE) – Cube did not meet our criteria due to a lack of open interest, so we're skipping this stock. EQR (Equity Residential) – EQR also did not make the cut due to insufficient performance for our strategy, so it has been removed from consideration. HOG (Harley-Davidson) – While Harley-Davidson has potential, the high extrinsic value makes it less appealing, and we're passing on this trade. NC (NACCO Industries) – NC stands out as a solid opportunity. We are entering a position with the September 20th 62.5 calls, as the stock has upward potential and room to grow. To finalize our trades, we use the VIP Investors Toolkit and Power Scanner to ensure every trade aligns with our strategy and risk management principles. This comprehensive approach allows us to make informed decisions and effectively manage our portfolio. Today's session was dynamic, filled with strategic closures and new opportunities. By leveraging advanced data analytics and following a disciplined trading approach, we continue to achieve strong results in the market. In our latest episode, we chat with Franck Cormier, the Lead Partner and President of Smarttasking Inc. He shares insights from his extensive career, having held roles at AT&T, Orange Business Services, Ciena, and Vodafone, focusing on driving innovation and transformation. Franck shares a leadership philosophy grounded in three key principles that were born from a client complaint that led to a strategic pricing review. First, there is the need to "think the future from the future," which involves envisioning long-term goals and planning. Next is the necessity of "bringing the team together on a common agenda," fostering collaboration and unity within the organization. Lastly, he highlights the value of "creating impact from the start," ensuring that initial efforts yield tangible results to build momentum and credibility. In addition to these principles, Franck is deeply committed to fostering innovation and creating an environment where teams can thrive. He champions the importance of emotional intelligence in leadership, believing that understanding and addressing the human aspects of change are vital for success. Franck's approach is not just about implementing strategies but also about nurturing a culture of continuous improvement and resilience, explaining that organizations need to accept that some initiatives will not scale. He notes that in a world where the pace of change is accelerating and there is a lot of volatility and uncertainty, it is crucial for companies to adapt and support those who can play an active role in the organization and making sure that they are supported to ensure that their visions are realized. An Assessment of Key 5G-IoT Ecosystem Developments Including 5G Sustainability Market Shapers, Top Sustainability Suppliers, and Vodafone Microsoft GenAI Alliance In this episode of The 5G Factor, our series that focuses on all things 5G, the IoT, and the ecosystem as a whole, I'm joined by my colleague and fellow analyst, Todd R Weiss, for a look at the top 5G developments and what's going on that caught our eye including a review of the top market shapers in the 5G sustainability realm, why we see Ciena, Cisco, Ericsson, Juniper, and Nokia offer the mobile network portfolios that fulfill the topmost 5G sustainability objectives, and how the new Vodafone Microsoft alliance focused on generative AI, cloud, and digital services can improve Vodafone's customer experience and sustainability profile. Our conversation focused on: 5G Sustainability Market Shapers. 5G network equipment providers (NEPs) are prioritizing the fulfillment of their organization-wide sustainability goals. NEPs are making tangible, measurable progress, including attaining science-based targets (SBTs) and developing ways to reduce waste and responsibly managing the lifecycle of their products. We assess how mobile ecosystem suppliers are embedding energy efficiency advances in product design and portfolio development across silicon, software, and systems from inception and throughout the entire lifecycle management in full alignment with energy orchestration and green operations. Ring of Honor: Top 5G Sustainability NEPs. We identified and reviewed what we believe are the top five network equipment provider 5G sustainability portfolios across the mobile ecosystem today, noting why the players are selected based on our analytical perspective, their ability meeting the top sustainability strategy goals and capabilities, as well as their ecosystem-wide influence in powering ecosystem cooperation and support. The top players who made our Ring of Honor include Ciena, Cisco, Ericsson, Juniper, and Nokia. Vodafone and Microsoft - New Ten-Year Alliance Spotlights GenAI: Vodafone and Microsoft formed a ten-year strategic alliance with the topmost objectives of transforming Vodafone's customer experience using Microsoft's generative AI acumen, hyperscale Vodafone's managed IoT connectivity platform, develop new digital and financial services for businesses - especially small/medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Europe and Africa - and overhaul Vodafone's global data center cloud strategy. Vodafone will invest $1.5 billion over the next 10 years in cloud and customer-focused AI services developed in concurrence with Microsoft. We examine why the new Vodafone and Microsoft alliance can broaden their channel influence across the digital ecosystems of Europe and Africa, especially across the opportunity-rich SME realm by using generative AI and hybrid cloud flexibility to uplift the customer experience and improve energy efficiency and sustainability performance across mobile networks, especially within data center environments. Now the partnership can demonstrate the full ecosystem benefits that are emerging from tighter collaboration between telcos and hyperscalers. Jim Moylan is perhaps our first CFO guest to list the leasing of oil rigs as one of the experiences that best prepared him for a CFO role. Of course, he makes it clear that the experience is worthy of mention not so much because of what he was selling but because he was selling at all. “The best way to learn what a company does and understand its value proposition is to be a salesperson, and I have told this to people everywhere that I've been,” comments Moylan, whose stint as a salesman helped to kick off a 22-year career climb inside the ever-evolving world of energy company Sonat, Inc. Sonat would provide Moylan with an expansive and varied career narrative. Having become known inside the company for his FP&A savvy, Moylan had a tenure that spanned a variety of leadership roles and included overseeing corporate strategy during a period of time when the company executed four acquisitions and two divestitures. He would also serve as president of one of the company's largest subsidiaries. Today, while Sonat resembles a sturdy bookend at one end of Moylan's career, Ciena—the networking systems company where he has now logged 15 years as CFO—could likely serve as the other. At Ciena, supply chain challenges have remained top-of-mind in 2022. “The priority for the company and for me personally is to address our supply chain problem, fix it, and repair our image in the minds of our customers—because not only have we disrupted our business, but also we've disrupted their businesses,” remarks Moylan, who notes that Ciena's product offerings depend on the regular replenishment of parts inventories comprising some 10,000 SKUs. As with many finance leadership resumes, long tenures as well as the transactional nature of the finance field are what punctuate Moylan's career. Turn back the clock to 1999, and Sonat was being acquired by El Paso Energy, a move that led Moylan to step into a CFO role at SCI Systems, the first of a succession of four CFO appointments for him within a mere 8 years. Reports Moylan: “If it didn't work for me, it didn't work for me—and if I learned that quickly, l would leave.” –Jack Sweeney

In this episode, Donald speaks with Kevin, the Chief Technology Officer of the Americas at Ciena. They discuss the complexities and challenges of B2B enterprise selling. Kevin shares insights into the evolving landscape of enterprise deals, emphasizing the importance of understanding the "why" behind a product or service offering. The conversation highlights the need for effective communication and providing memorable examples to decision-making committees, ultimately leading to successful outcomes. The Increasing Complexity of B2B Enterprise Selling As technology advances, B2B enterprise selling has become more complex and confusing. The integration of tools like AI adds layers of complexity to the selling process. It is crucial to adhere to the basics and understand the fundamentals of enterprise selling. The Role of Kevin as the Chief Technology Officer of the Americas Kevin leads a technical team of sales engineers and sales specialists at Sienna. The team's primary objective is to assist business customers in making the right purchasing decisions. Challenges in Enterprise-level and Complex Deals In the past, individual decision-makers played a key role in the purchasing process. However, in today's enterprise deals, decision-making power rests with a complex council of decision-makers. Sales professionals must equip their customers with the necessary skills and tools to present the value proposition to the entire decision-making council effectively. Shifting Focus from the "What" to the "Why" -Previously, the sales pitch predominantly focused on describing the technical aspects of the product (the "what"). With the involvement of decision-making committees, it has become crucial to emphasize the "why" behind the product/service offering. Sales teams need to explain the importance of the proposed solution, its impact on the customer's business, and provide real-life examples to support their claims. This shift towards the "why" ensures a comprehensive understanding of the value proposition and makes it more memorable. Enhancing Memorability and Communication It is insufficient to rely solely on PowerPoint presentations or technical demonstrations to convey the value proposition. The sales team should strive to provide the customer with simple, memorable, and repeatable examples. These examples enable the customer to share their enthusiasm and effectively communicate the value proposition to their peers within the decision-making committee. B2B enterprise selling has become increasingly complex, necessitating a shift in sales strategies. Understanding the "why" behind a product or service offering and effectively communicating this value proposition to decision-making committees is crucial for success. Kevin emphasizes the importance of providing memorable examples and enabling customers to become effective ambassadors for the proposed solution. By focusing on the "why," sales teams can establish a deeper connection with customers and increase the chances of winning complex enterprise deals. "When you go to these decision-making committees, there's always others on the committee, but not necessarily in the room with you that are very interested in the why." - Kevin Sheehan Resources Ciena Sponsorship Offers This episode is brought to you in part by Hubspot. In this episode of The 5G Factor, our series that focuses on all things 5G, the IoT, and the ecosystem as a whole, I'm joined by my colleague and fellow analyst, Todd Weiss, for a look at the top 5G developments and what's going on that caught our eye. Our conversation focused on: Nokia Driving Key PON-related 5G/Small Cell Innovations. The recent Fiber Connect 2023 event fully showed why fiber optics plays an essential role in 5G network builds and capabilities. Nokia, for instance, demonstrated its Build America, Buy America (BABA) compliance, 25G PON starter kit aimed at 10Gbp+ service opportunities, its Corteca home connectivity software aimed at monetizing and improving broadband experiences such as hybrid workforce environments, expanded its Network-in-a-box program, and strengthened its manufacturing presence in the US through deals with Sanmina in Wisconsin and Fabrinet in California. We discuss why these moves impact the 5G ecosystem, including Nokia's 100G PON collaboration with Vodafone. Ciena's 5G xHaul Portfolio Syncs up With Key Operator Priorities. In 5G systems, accuracy in frequency, phase, and time synchronization is integral for optimizing RAN performance. We see operators are prioritizing using network timing distribution across their transport infrastructure to complement local Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) at cell sites, providing a more resilient and flexible RAN architecture. Plus, we assess why streamlined visualization and management of timing and synchronization capabilities as well as transport versatility that supports network slicing are key to advancing xHaul innovation and broader adoption, and Calix's ecosystem role in delivering such capabilities. Calix Mobile Backhaul Portfolio Ready for Prime Time 5G Demands. Given that hundreds or even thousands of smartphones depend on the connection to their base station, we see that mobile operators hold their backhaul providers to the highest levels of performance in the industry. As a result, mobile operators want real-time visibility of circuit performance, increasingly demand bandwidth on demand flexibility, and fail-safe circuits. We delve into why Calix's portfolio, such as the Calix AXOS E5 Ethernet Service Access Nodes, deliver the Carrier Ethernet 10G and 1G UNI service demarcation and Ethernet aggregation capabilities key to assuring operators can provide premium business and mobile backhaul services with operational efficiency and service assurance.
