It has been a couple of years since Aristo (@Aristos_Revenge) joined the show, and so tonight will be especially thrilling given all of the cultural shifts we are feeling beneath our feet. The arrival of sixty white South African farmers, and the President's acknowledgment of the ongoing genocide that qualifies them as actual refugees, has drawn out some incredibly revealing reaction from progressive groups in the United States—especially those who hide their political operations behind the mask of Faith-Based Initiatives. We're going to talk about how the age of ignoring the true race-based motives of the state is ending, and what that means going forward. For the 300th episode of the show, we are joined by a special guest, Dr David Ireland. In this important conversation he speaks with Mike about the importance of preachers having a clear argument in their message and a persuasiveness in their presentation. He speaks about his preparation process which involves reading himself full, thinking himself clear and praying himself hot. There is also two stories that he shares about prophetic dreams and visions that have both called him into ministry and have given him insight into a need for his own personal growth. Dr. David Ireland is founder and lead pastor of Christ Church, a thriving 10,000-member multiracial, multisite worship community in northern New Jersey. He and his wife, Marlinda, have been married since 1984 and have two adult daughters and a son-in-law.Dr. Ireland grew up in Queens, New York and invited Jesus Christ to become the Lord of his life during college. At that time he was an engineering student. Dr. Ireland earned an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a master's degree in civil engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology. Shortly after he began working in consulting engineering, he answered God's call to plant a new church. In 1986, with only six other adults, the Irelands founded what is now known as Christ Church.Early in the life of the church, Dr. Ireland sensed God's heart deeply leading him to become intentional about ensuring that the church would reflect the multiracial mix of society. Dr. Ireland poignantly remembers the moment he tearfully embraced the church's God-given mission to unite people to God and people to people. “I was on a routine errand for my then-pregnant wife in a local supermarket when suddenly I became mesmerized by the melting pot of races gathered in the store,” Dr. Ireland says. “At that precise moment I heard the Holy Spirit speak this question to my heart, 'David, why can't it be like this in My house?' I knew right then and there that God wanted me to grow and lead a multiracial, multiethnic congregation.”While leading Christ Church, Dr. Ireland has also authored over 20 books including What Color is Your God?, Secrets of a Satisfying Life, One in Christ, The Skin You Live In, and The Kneeling Warrior: Winning Your Battles Through Prayer and has earned a master's degree in theology from Alliance Theological Seminary and an earned doctorate degree in organizational leadership from Regent University. He completed his post-doctoral education at the University of Pennsylvania, and holds a postgraduate degree in social innovation from the University of Cambridge in England. Dr. Ireland formerly served as an adjunct professor at Drew University focusing on training doctoral students in the area of leadership and church growth.Former diversity consultant to the National Basketball Association, Dr. Ireland has led chapel services for the New York Giants, New York Jets, and at the U.S. Pentagon. Ireland has appeared on numerous television shows including The Dr. Phil Show, The CBS Evening News, and The 700 Club. Through his community development corporation, he offers a youth leadership institute, as well as a statewide abstinence-based program in partnership with New Jersey schools. The Reverend Ireland is an appointed member of the Governor's Advisory Commission on Faith-Based Initiatives and serves on the boards of Nyack College and Alliance Theological Seminary.Resources Mentioned: A Rulebook for Arguments - Anthony Weston: https://hackettpublishing.com/a-rulebook-for-arguments-4146 The preaching of A.B. This week of Giver, Doers, & Thinkers, Jeremy speaks with nonprofit leader Jay Hein about innovative social impact investing, religion and social policy, and what the George W. Bush White House got right. Jay Hein is the president of Sagamore Institute and serves as managing director of an impact investing platform called Commonwealth. Together, Sagamore and Commonwealth advance game-changing ideas through innovations and investments. Jay also served President George W. Bush as the White House Office of Faith-Based Initiatives director. In addition, he formerly directed Civil Society Programs at Hudson Institute and served as a welfare policy advisor to then-Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson. Jay is the author of The Quiet Revolution and The New Wisconsin Idea. To kick off today's conversation, Jay shares about his time working for President George W. Bush's Office of Faith-Based Initiatives and the controversy surrounding its formation. They discuss the weariness of faith-based organizations receiving government support for their programs and whether the concern is legitimate. From there, Jay shares a little more about the Sagamore Institute and Commonwealth and their innovative approach to social investing. What's the future of America's heartland? Jay answers whether the Midwest has "arrived" and, if so, its implications. To close, Jay offers his thoughts on different legislative reforms that have been proposed that could influence the future of philanthropy.During this week's practicalities segment, Jeremy chats with Ben Domingue about major-gifts fundraising. Ben addresses two questions that often come up with his clients: How do you know how much to ask for? Where can I find that million-dollar donor? If you're wrestling with these questions, I'd suggest listening to this somewhat unconventional advice. You can find Givers, Doers, & Thinkers here at Philanthropy Daily, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, Google Podcasts, Buzzsprout, and wherever you listen to podcasts. We'd love to hear your thoughts, ideas, questions, and recommendations for the podcast! In this episode, Eric and Sara Joy talk with Pastor Cynthia Wallace about how the Oasis Farm and Fishery was implemented and is operating out of Bible Center Church in the Homewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Originally begun as an educational initiative to help families learn how to eat and cook healthier, the program has evolved into growing food for the local community. This work began as the church gained a deeper understanding of the food insecurity, or lack of access to food, that so many of the local neighborhood residents are facing. Pastor Cynthia reminds us that listening to God and your neighbors is a vital part of recognizing what needs the local church is called to fulfill in the community. The process can be slow and full of small steps, but God has been faithful to expand the work of Bible Center Church in a well-timed and manageable way. The Oasis Farm and Fishery has been in operation for almost nine years, expanding to include gardening classes, cooking classes, farm stands, and vegetable box delivery in the community.Eric and Sara Joy also speak with a couple of field guides who provide professional research expertise to expand upon the social and economic implications of food insecurity in our communities. Both Dr. Stephanie Boddie of Baylor University and Dr. Norman Wirzba of Duke University help us better understand the extent of how poor access to healthy food in our communities is detrimental to our well-being and contrary to the way God designed us to eat and enjoy food. Each of these field guides provides inspiring challenges to churches to be a light of the Gospel in their communities through growing and enjoying food together.Episode ContributorsCynthia Wallace is the Executive Pastor of Bible Center Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is also the Executive Director of the Oasis Project, which includes the Oasis Farm and Fishery. Dr. Stephanie Clintonia Boddie is Assistant Professor of Church and Community Ministries with affiliations at the Diana R. The opioid epidemic has taken a deep toll on families throughout Appalachia. In Tennessee alone, over 1,631 people, (more than five per day), died from a drug overdose in 2016. To respond to such a massive loss of life, Tennessee state leaders developed a special program to unite faith-based communities and take coordinated action against substance abuse. Faith communities have a long history in the struggle against substance abuse. By working together and building a Faith-Based Recovery Network, not only can the state of Tennessee provide educated, welcoming, and supportive places for individuals struggling with Substance Use Disorder (SUD), but also, they can increase outreach, and build more pathways to recovery. Dr. Monty Burks, is the leader of Tennessee’s Faith-Based Recovery Network, and State Director of Special Projects and Faith-Based Initiatives. Fresh off his speech from the National Drug Abuse & Heroin Summit, Dr. Burks shares his insight into this program’s collaboration with Faith-based communities in Tennessee and beyond. Listen to today’s podcast for a preview of Dr. Monty Burks, Fair-Based Recovery Network- empowering faith communities for substance abuse recovery.

On today’s show, we will be discussing the results of Kenneka Jenkins autopsy and toxicology results including why the prescription drug topiramate was found in her system in therapeutic ranges when her family stated that she had not been prescribed this drug.  Topiramate is used for to prevent and control seizures (epilepsy). This medication is also used to prevent migraine headaches and to decrease how often you get them.  So then if she didn’t have any of this, why was it in her system in prescribed therapeutic ranges?  Plus the fact that the autopsy results showed her brain was swollen and that her blood alcohol level was 0.112, higher than the legal limit of 0.08 for driving under the influence.  We will explore the evidence and conspiracy theories surrounding the Kenneka Jenkins’ unfortunate yet suspicious demise.  Will we ever really know the truth? We will also be discussing the pros and cons of Faith-Based Initiatives which was implemented by former President George W. Bush by executive order in January 2001. The purpose and goal this initiative sought were to strengthen faith-based and community organizations and expand their capacity to provide federally funded social services. Was this goal accomplished?  What changes if any did these programs and organizations accomplish through this initiative.  We welcome your views and insight.  Come join us  Call in Number is (347) 838-8622 Showtime is 2pm central and 3pm Eastern time zones

THIS WEEK - Abortions, Faith-Based Initiatives, and Debating the Debate As surprising as listeners may find this, Ex is pissed off! He tears into the recent Compassion Forum (renaming it the Compulsion Forum). Although he has several beefs (or is it "beeves"?) he and Philly zero in on the candidates' responses to questions on abortion. Obama says that abortion is a "moral decision" and a "wrenching choice." Are there any actual moral issues involved in abortions early in the pregnancy, or is the word "moral" just Obama's way of pandering to the religious? Faith-based initiatives and Establishment. We all pretty much agree with James Madison, even though he was not an atheist blogger. Attacks on Obama: why has he shown an utter inability to handle them better? Does he appear as un-Presidential to you as he does to Ex? What should he be saying in his own defense? Evo wonders whether Obama modifies his debating style because of perceived racial prejudices that he faces. But OG counters that it's really Hillary who has a tougher bias to overcome. The boys gang up on OG, badgering her to accept there is no anti-feminist sentiment in the electorate. Then, Philly tells the herd why he would accept an invitation to a religious forum if he were a candidate. Normally, this spot in the podcast would be devoted to out-takes. In this podcast, however, it's just more in-put. During a long break, the Herd can't seem to abort its discussion. CrossWalk America interview with Barry Lynn, director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State. This 24 min. interview was taken for possible inclusion in an upcoming film by Creatista Productions commissioned by CrossWalk America (www.CrossWalkAmerica.org). This is raw audio in which Barry speaks frankly about contemporary issues impacting the separation of church and state including so-called Faith Based Initiatives, the historical context of the First Amendment, and biblical/theological rationale for keeping a solid wall between church and state. This piece is a timely one in light of David Kuo's new book, Tempting Faith, in which the former second-in-command of the Faith Based Initiatives Office claims that through the Faith Based Initiatives Office, Christians in America were used by a political system that could care less about Christian values than Christian votes. Voices on the podcast besides Barry Lynn are Scott Griessel, the interviewer and film director, and Rebecca Glenn and Eric Elnes, co-presidents of CrossWalk America who ask questions of Barry in the final few minutes.
