What happens when a childhood obsession with building things collides with MIT engineering, BMW design innovation, Harvard Business School, and a mission to shape the next generation of entrepreneurs? You get Laurie Stach. In this episode of Inventive Journey, Laurie shares the unconventional path that led her from building dangerous double-decker go-karts in the backyard to founding LaunchX — one of the most recognized youth entrepreneurship programs helping young founders build real startups and entrepreneurial confidence.Laurie opens up about growing up feeling like she never fully fit into one category. She loved engineering, creativity, athletics, experimentation, and problem-solving all at once. That blend of interests eventually led her to MIT, where she discovered an environment filled with builders, inventors, and curious minds who approached the world differently. At MIT, Laurie immersed herself in machine shops and rapid prototyping culture. She worked at the MIT Media Lab building experimental technologies and learning firsthand how quickly ideas could move from imagination to physical reality. That love for prototyping later carried into her work at GE and BMW Design Studio, where she helped implement new technologies like 3D printing and innovation-driven workflows. But despite enjoying the technical side of engineering, Laurie realized she was increasingly fascinated by bigger questions surrounding innovation itself:How industries evolveHow entrepreneurs thinkHow future trends emergeHow people gain the confidence to build companiesThat curiosity eventually led her to Harvard Business School, where she encountered one of the most uncomfortable lessons for an engineer: there often isn't one “correct” answer in business.Instead, entrepreneurship requires making decisions under uncertainty. That realization became foundational when Laurie launched LaunchX.What started as a simple idea, rough website, and evolving curriculum slowly transformed into a globally recognized entrepreneurship ecosystem. Laurie discusses the early days of balancing consulting with building LaunchX as a side hustle, testing ideas before feeling fully ready, and learning how to scale iteratively instead of waiting for perfection. She also shares the emotional side of entrepreneurship that many founders rarely discuss:fear of uncertaintyfounder identityburnout risksdelegation challengeshiring leadershipscaling mission-driven companiesOne of the most powerful moments in the conversation comes when Laurie explains how LaunchX alumni from the first ten years of the program now represent more than $17 billion in portfolio value. Yet for Laurie, the real mission isn't simply producing unicorn startups. It's helping young people develop entrepreneurial confidence. The conversation also explores:rapid prototypingstartup iterationexperiential educationAI-driven entrepreneurshiponline learning evolutionfuture startup ecosystemsyouth innovation trendsfounder psychologyLaurie explains why she believes today's entrepreneurs have more opportunity than any previous generation thanks to dramatically lower startup barriers and advances in AI technology. At the same time, she emphasizes that entrepreneurship is not just about technology or money. It's about curiosity, resilience, creativity, and learning how to navigate uncertainty.Whether you're a founder, student, investor, educator, or someone exploring your next big idea, Laurie's journey offers practical insight into how successful entrepreneurs actually grow — not through perfect plans, but through relentless experimentation and action. And yes, occasionally through questionable homemade engineering projects. To chat about this one-on-one, grab a free consult at strategymeeting.com

The Automotive Troublemaker w/ Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier
Shoot us a Text.Episode #1321: Sedans eye a comeback as affordability bites, tax refunds rise but don't fully convert to sales, and a $2K stripped Tesla proves EV durability in the wildest way possible.Show Notes with links:https://www.autonews.com/manufacturing/automakers/an-general-motors-sedan-strategy-0419/#After years of getting crowded out by crossovers, sedans are quietly making a return. Rising prices, shifting regulations, and a hunger for something different have automakers reconsidering the segment many left for dead.Automakers like GM, Stellantis, and Infiniti are exploring new sedan entries, some targeting sub-$30K price points to win back budget-conscious buyers.Sedans are gaining traction again, with Camry, Accord, and K5 posting double-digit sales increases while some crossovers lose share. With average vehicle prices over $50K, sedans offer a more affordable alternative and fill an underserved gap in the market.Design fatigue is real—executives say SUVs are getting “boring,” while sedans offer more room for style and brand differentiation.“There's opportunity for sedans to nibble into utility vehicles,” said S&P's Stephanie Brinley.https://news.dealershipguy.com/p/https-news-dealershipguy-com-p-first-tax-season-under-one-big-beautiful-bill-ends-refunds-up-11The first tax season under the “One Big Beautiful Bill” brought bigger refunds—but not a clean win for dealers. Higher cash in pockets met higher costs at the pump and on loans, creating a mixed bag on showroom floors.Average refunds jumped 11% to $3,462, with total payouts up 14.5%, boosted by new deductions, credits, and no tax on tips or overtime.Dealers saw uneven results—some stores surged, others lagged—as gas prices topped $4 and interest rates stayed elevated.Used market demand leaned toward “near-new” value buys, as shoppers stretched dollars against $50K new-vehicle pricing.Subprime activity ticked up, but down payments shrank, signaling affordability pressure despite larger refunds.“If the war ends…we could see a monster Q4 in '26,” said Potamkin CEO Cole Potamkin.https://electrek.co/2026/04/18/youtuber-buys-stripped-tesla-model-3-go-kart-2000-212-miles-range/YouTuber, Remmy Evans, bought a completely stripped Tesla Model 3 for $2,000—and drove it like a go-kart. Somehow, the battery and motors didn't get the memo. The car had no body panels, windshield, or seatbelts—just the core EV components—and still showed 212 miles of range.Despite 78 error codes and missing safety systems, it was driven on public roads, drifted, off-roaded, and even jumped.Charging proved tricky, with hacked adapters and slow Level 2 charging due to software limitations.Tesla's software may eventually restrict functionality as it detects missing components, highlighting challenges for rebuilders. The big takeaway: EV drivetrains are incredibly durable—even when everything else is gone.Join Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier every morning for the Automotive State of the Union podcast as they connect the dots across car dealerships, retail trends, emerging tech like AI, and cultural shifts—bringing clarity, speed, and people-first insight to automotive leaders navigating a rapidly changing industry.Get the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/

Connor Zilisch, NASCAR's rising star, joins us for Chapter 384. His journey didn't follow the traditional American racing path. It started in go-karts, where he became a world champion and beat drivers who now compete in Formula 1. Many believed his future was overseas chasing the F1 dream, but Connor's road led him back home. Instead of Europe, he chose to build his career racing NASCAR here in America. Ten victories in his rookie Xfinity Series season later, he's now making the jump to the Cup Series, stepping into the arena with the very best in the sport. This is the story of a young driver who took a different path and might just change NASCAR because of it.Gypsy Gang, as always, thanks for watching. Lenny Rabin, founder of direct advertising group Brown Boots and their reward app platform Go-Kart, joins Taylor Lobdell to dissect the evolution of rewarded user acquisition, focusing on how direct publisher-advertiser relationships can solve long-standing industry inefficiencies. Rabin, with over a decade in rewarded traffic and ad tech, explains why most publishers dislike third-party monetization platforms, how custom tech stacks like Go-Kart enable deeper, more transparent deals, and what both advertisers and publishers must do to thrive in an increasingly mainstream and competitive rewards ecosystem. This episode tracks the practical realities of running direct-sold inventory at scale, dives into shifts in audience intent (from GPT sites to fintechs), and breaks down why most campaigns fail. Rabin also shares founder lessons for building in ad tech without an engineering background.Questions addressed in this episode:What's the origin story behind Brown Boots and Go-Kart?Why do most publishers dislike monetizing via third-party networks? What core problems do direct publisher-advertiser relationships solve that networks can't?What are the unique challenges in building a tech stack for rewarded offers? How does Go-Kart's programmatic model differ from legacy platforms?Who is the ideal client for Brown Boots vs. Go-Kart?What major changes has Rabin seen in rewarded marketing over 15 years? How do publisher audiences shape campaign strategy and outcomes? What retention and LTV signals matter most for performance marketers? What timeline is realistic for testing new rewarded channels?Where do most advertisers and publishers fail in UA campaign collaboration? What's Rabin's advice for ad tech founders without a technical background?Timestamps:(0:04) – Intro and Lenny's background(0:27) – Brown Boots & Go-Kart origin story(1:55) – Direct publisher-advertiser relationships explained(3:22) – Building custom tech for publishers(5:20) – Ideal customer for Brown Boots and Go-Kart(6:30) – Fintech, UA, and why rewarded offers are growing(9:00) - What has changed the most in rewarded traffic acquisition(11:15) – How intent differs between GPT sites and fintech audiences(13:05) - How does that change the value proposition for app marketers(13:45) – Advertiser mistakes: not understanding publisher audiences(15:06) – How long to test new channels; why 90 days matters(16:46) – The retention metric and why it drives value(17:46) – Go-Kart's programmatic disruption(18:18) – Why last-mile delivery in rewarded UA is broken(21:00) – The tech stack vision: features, flexibility, and future(27:00) – Lessons in building ad tech as a non-engineer(35:00) - Rapid fire roundQuotes:(1:05) "Publishers wanted less opaqueness in the revenues that they were making and also deeper partnerships with the advertisers."(5:00) "Rewarded traffic is a medium which continues to grow and is becoming more mainstream."(6:46) "Any app that has a core product offering not related to rewarded marketing and has a rewarding mechanism is a good target."(11:29) "On a GPT site, users come to the site specifically to earn rewards... Your quality of your user is inherently low."(13:55) "Every publisher will have a specific and unique audience and catering the campaign specifically to that audience is a big miss."(21:55) "Let's not be spending our time dealing with data loss and dealing with small decisions. Ariel Harmoko is the Co Founder and CEO of Artifact AI. Ariel joined James and Hector for a conversation that moves from race tracks to reconciliation engines.Ariel grew up in Jakarta, was thrown into Go Karts at eight, and went on to race professionally all the way to Formula 3 alongside the likes of Lando Norris and George Russell. That early immersion in high performance teams, engineering and discipline shaped how he now operates as a founder. He shares how a love of maths and science took him to boarding school in the UK, then into machine learning research at Cambridge while still a teenager, working on early diagnosis in medtech and later deploying internal GPT tools at JP Morgan.Today Ariel is building Artifact AI, an “agent accountant” that sits on top of existing ledgers like Xero, QuickBooks and NetSuite. The product tackles two huge problems for accounting firms. Fragmented legacy stacks and chronic staff shortages. Ariel explains how their agents ingest data, reconcile, post to ledgers and learn from human review, and why accuracy, auditability and trust are non negotiable in this space. The conversation covers selling into one of the most conservative industries on earth, founder led FDE style implementations, why advisory is the real margin in accounting, and how vertical AI and agentic workflows could reshape professional services. Send us a textMeet the extraordinary Sadie Parsons, a 10-year-old racing phenom who's already collecting championships like most kids collect toys. From the moment her father introduced her to go-kart racing at age five, Sadie has been on an unstoppable journey through the motorsports world.Born into racing royalty—both her parents met on the go-kart circuit—Sadie has quickly advanced through multiple racing classes with remarkable skill. She confidently discusses the nuances between driving go-karts, Bandoleros, Legend cars, and Crown Vics with the expertise of someone three times her age. What's more impressive? She doesn't just drive these machines; she can completely disassemble and rebuild them, understanding every mechanical aspect of her vehicles. The results speak volumes: five championships in a single season, across multiple racing classes. Her trophy collection has outgrown her bedroom, now spanning hallways and the family race shop. Between homeschooling (which she completes in about an hour daily), gymnastics training, and maintaining her race cars, Sadie demonstrates a work ethic and maturity that defies her years.Throughout our conversation, Sadie's genuine passion for motorsports shines through, matched only by her humility and faith. "I know without Him I wouldn't have this ability to race," she shares, crediting God for her talents. Her ultimate goal? NASCAR—and given her trajectory, few would bet against her getting there.Subscribe to our podcast for more inspiring stories of women breaking barriers in motorsports, and follow Sadie's journey on social media at SO3 Motorsports. Die tydren strek oor sowat 106 kilometer en volgens die organiseerders is die paaie goed voorberei en in baie goeie toestand. The once full compact truck space was filled with any number of budget-friendly small trucks that would handle the arduous task of hauling landscaping pieces from your local home store, or moving a Go-Kart has disappeared. Those small trucks either grew into the mid-size trucks we know today or fell into the footnotes of history, like the rotary-powered Mazda REPU. The folks at Hyundai jumped back into the underserviced space with the crossover-based Hyundai Santa Cruz. Riding on the same N3 platform as the similarly named Sante Fe, this Santa Cruz pickup essentially gives you the comfort and convenience of a modern crossover, with a separated, external four-foot cargo space – or bed, for the truck enthusiasts. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren hops behind the wheel of the 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz and puts it through its paces. Wren takes you on a guided tour of the '25 Santa Cruz and highlights some of its updates and some of his favorite features. Later, Wren takes you along for a live drive review. Adding to these segments, Wren chats with Autoweek executive editor Tom Murphy about the Santa Cruz, the competitive set, and more. Closing the show, the pair breaks down what makes the 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz so special.

We start this week with a tribute to the late Bill Baumgardner, the BACE Motorsports team owner who won three consecutive Busch Series championships in 1995-97 with drivers Johnny Benson and Randy LaJoie. Then, in the first of what will be three installments of our interview, Jamie McMurray talks about the perception that he was afraid to race hard, getting hooked up with Winston Cup team owner Chip Ganassi and how he ended up filling in for Sterling Marlin late in the 2002 season. We then take a look at the July 23, 1998 issue of Winston Cup Scene. There's a massive series of stories in this issue dealing with recent injuries to drivers and what could be done about it safety-wise … and from the seriousness of that topic … we move on to the silliness of a Go Kart race with Buckshot Jones … and Tony Stewart.
