In this episode of Real Estate Excellence, Heather Monahan shares her story of resilience and empowerment. After being fired from a successful executive position and signing an 18-month non-compete agreement, Heather shared her story on social media. Her post went viral, leading to an interview on Elvis Duran's show, which was a turning point in her journey. She eventually became the chairperson of the company due to the owner's ill health. Despite facing opposition, Heather used her intelligence and inner voice to remain positive and make a success of her career. During the conversation, Heather talks about the importance of listening to our own voice instead of the opinions of others. This podcast episode not only teaches us how to be successful but also encourages us to learn to be confident by understanding fear, embracing gratitude, and journaling our successes. Tune in for an inspiring conversation that will motivate you to recognize patterns, build action plans, and remove villains from your life to create a life that brings joy and contentment. [00:00 - 07:13] Heather's Story of Overcoming Adversity and Reaching the C-Suite • Everyone needs to be on a level playing field, not putting some people up and some people below. • Heather's story of being fired and how she chose to post about it despite the noise from everyone around her. • How she was blacklisted from awards for years due to certain people in the industry. • Her personal brand was getting bigger than the company she worked for, which led to her being fired. [07:13 - 13:50] Overcoming Fear and Taking Massive Action • Heather had to sign an 18-month non-compete non-solicit, which meant she had to leave the company and could not compete in that industry for 18 months. • She posted 24 hours later asking for help, which went viral and landed her on the Elvis Duran show. • Confidence is not a static thing and can be found in different areas of life. [13:51 - 20:25] Why You Shouldn't Take Advice From Those Who Haven't Been There • Fear is something outside of you, not inside of you. • Confidence is an intrinsic knowing that things will work out. • Someone who hasn't been to a place cannot guide you there. • Don't apologize for things that weren't intentional. Instead, adopt a gratitude mindset. [20:26 - 26:29] Overcoming Villains and Building Confidence • How to start expressing gratitude instead of self-blame. •The difference between obvious villains and sneaky villains. • Why you should measure your confidence level in different situations. • Journaling to document life events, action steps, and patterns. [26:29 - 32:52] Claiming Shame and Overcoming Self-Defeating Thoughts • Noticing patterns and building action plans to address them • Removing negative patterns and people from life. • Documenting unexpected miracles and joys to build momentum. • Overcoming self-confidence issues by claiming shame and flipping the script [32:53 - 40:04] The Difference Between Confidence and Arrogance • Struggles can be a gift, even though they don't feel like it at the moment. • Everyone should be on a level playing field and not put people on pedestals. • Heather was asked to teach at Harvard and realized that she could bring a unique flavor to the students. • Arrogance is the ultimate lack of confidence and self-doubt. [40:04 - 46:29] Lead with Good Intention, and Don't Worry About What Others Think • Heather announced she was writing a book on Elvis Duran's show, even though she wasn't. • This was a process of reverse-engineered self-accountability. • She gave herself a year to publish the book but managed to do it in 5 months. • If you are sure of what you are doing, you shouldn't worry about what others think or say. [46:29 - 52:54] How to Shift the Current and Pull Opportunities Toward You • Learned from the pandemic that you can't plan out the next 10 years of life. • Uses post-its, reminders, morning practice, colors, music, and visualizing to feel confident • Leverages frequency sales to drive home messaging. • Attract business by creating content that falls under the umbrella of your brand. [52:54 - 59:10] Women Should Support Each Other and Hold Each Other Accountable • To get the most return on investment, it is important to focus on the platform that will give you the best results. • Content should be created to answer questions people are asking and add value to their lives. • Women empowering women is a movement, but those who practice it are more successful than those who just use the hashtag. • Women empowerment groups are great, but some women purposely drag other women down, and they should be held accountable. Quotes: "Confidence is the one thing that changes everything." -Heather Monahan "Never take direction from someone who hasn't been where you're going.” -Heather Monahan "When you start thanking the other person for their patience instead of apologizing, you start coming from a place of gratitude and make it all about them instead of making it about you.” -Heather Monahan "The biggest fix for my worthiness issue was when I decided to claim my shame and stop allowing my shame to claim me. When I flipped the script on shame, my worthiness was off the charts." -Heather Monahan “Arrogance and confidence are not the same thing. As a matter of fact, arrogance is the ultimate form of self-doubt and lack of confidence.” -Heather Monahan Learn more about Heather Monahan's work, books, and businesses, or hire her to speak: https://www.instagram.com/heathermonahan/?hl=es https://linktr.ee/heathermonahan www.heathermonahan.com If you want to build your business and become more discoverable online, Streamlined Media has you covered. Unashamed and unafraid, Josh boldly shares his story of a poser life by day and a life of acting out with multiple partners while trying to keep it a secret from his first wife by night. But now Josh is willing to give up everything to God to make things right and get back into good standing with his church, his family, and start new with his second wife Heather and her kids. Heather's story is one of struggling with her first husband who was also an addict. Thinking “never again” she was surprised to feel at peace when Josh revealed his struggles with his addiction and she found that the secrecy of her first husband hurt worse than the acting out. Within a week of her divorce being finalized, she said yes to Josh's proposal two years ago despite him confessing to her when he'd been having a hard day and relapsed.Josh's story is one of redemption from living in his car to living his best life with Heather. Thinking he'd have to spend as many years in recovery as he'd spent in addiction, Josh has found Christ's healing powers are not confined to the constraints of a calendar or stopwatch. Heather's story is one of continual work on their marriage and Heather has loved seeing how open Josh is to sharing his story to help others come out of shame and fear to embrace recovery and strengthen their relationship with Christ. Now their teenage boys are counting down the days until they are old enough to go to a warrior bootcamp weekend and are actively seeking out peers who are struggling. Becky and Tiffany talk with Heather, whose close connection with God started as a young child and continued throughout her younger years. After marrying her life-long friend, Heather was shocked when he lost his job because of an undisclosed pornography addiction. Over the next 15 years, Heather felt increasingly isolated and broken as she was cut off from family and friends. Shame, depression, and anxiety were constant companions. After feeling suicidal, Heather reached out for help. Her husband's lack of response led to a conversation with God where she heard Him say, “It's time.” Heather has since found light and joy in life. Her relationship with God led her through dating and marrying Josh, a sex addict whose honesty and openness and whose own relationship with God has been a breath of fresh air. Heather has realized that God can use them to share their stories now, even when things aren't perfect and their story is still being written.

Heather shares what it was like pushing against routine induction for advanced maternal age during her plus size pregnancy and birth story.
After four years of infertility, Heather Evans began her motherhood journey in 2013 when her twins, Hannah and Gavin, were born at 24 weeks, 1-day gestation. At just 1.5 pounds each, the twins were immediately intubated and remained on ventilators for seven weeks. They battled brain hemorrhages, infections, constant respiratory distress, feeding dysfunction, and more. They were in the NICU for 122 days, coming home on oxygen and apnea monitors one day before their four-month birthday. In addition to being a special needs parent and a NICU mama veteran, Heather is also a pelvic health physical therapist, focusing on treating women during pregnancy and post-partum. She has written two books" "Learning to Breathe" which describes Hannah and Gavin's NICU journey in order to provide hope to other parents, and "The NICU Mama Survival Guide" which uses her knowledge as a pelvic health physical therapist to guide women through their post-partum journey while caring for a baby in the NICU. Dharma is your soul's purpose — the reason why you are here, on this planet, at this time. From the moment I started working at my day job in 2019, I knew that it wasn't my soul's purpose, but it was only in the beginning of 2021 that I began feeling very unfulfilled at my job. I set out on my dharma discovery journey in February of that year. I learned from several teachers, including the amazing Sahara Rose, with whom our today's guest Heather studied. She received her certification from Sahara's Dharma Coaching Institute and became one of the first Certified Dharma Coaches in the world. Heather is truly in full embodiment of what she teaches. She left her 20-year corporate career to focus on helping others become the highest versions of themselves through discovering their dharma. Heather is also the host of a spiritual podcast called For the Love of Dharma. Through her stories, and those of her guests, she inspires others to live life on their terms. Brianne is the co-creator of three female-driven TV Series, "Take Back The Night," "Into Me You See" and "Secret Life." She's currently pitching them to networks with her producing partner/husband, Mark Gantt. Brianne recently finished writing her first book, "Secret Life of a Hollywood Sex and Love Addict, a roman à clef novel based on a decade in recovery, and a little creative license. The book arrives in 2021. In March of 2020, she published an article for the HuffPost about her ten years of recovery from sex and love addiction. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband, son Davis and their dog Bear. Brianne talks about how sex and love addiction can be very grey. It is not as simple as drinking or using drugs. Brianne says people who are sex and love addicts are addicted to people. Brianne explains sex addiction as people who are addicted to one-night stands, cheating in a relationship, having multiple relationships at once and having one foot in and one foot out in a relationship. Sex addicts are people who are more addicted to the sexual act of a relationship. Love addiction on the other hand is addicted to fantasy, romance, bad relationships, people who go back to the same relationship when they know the person is unavailable to be in a relationship. Someone who struggles with Sex and Love addiction has a progressive brain disease, people become addicted to people and to keep up the relationship they do sexual things to keep up the relationship. The fellowship people attend who are Sex and Love addicts is Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous. Brianne has been sober in the fellowship for eleven and a half years, and she talks about what her bottom line looks like. Brianne said her sobriety depends on her staying above her bottom line, her bottom line is things she was doing before she got sober. Brianne was not allowed to cheat on her partner, she was not allowed to text email or talk to any men whatsoever, also get rid of all men in her life completely. Brianne says she would have to go to a restaurant and look down and not make eye contact with the waiter because what she did was put out a kind of energy to flirt with others, and to intrigue with her. Brianne would walk down the street and make sure people look at her and notice her as she wanted everyone's attention she explains. Brianne says her first year of sobriety she did not work as an actor. Brianne said she could not be in character when she was an empty shell of a human being. Brianne explains it as like putting a mask on top of a mask on top of a mask, also her first year of sobriety she did not have sex with her boyfriend, who is now her husband. Brianne and her boyfriend had very clear boundaries at the beginning of her sobriety such as her boyfriend not being able to comfort her when she was struggling, and he could not be there for her when she needed him. Brianne says it was the best thing to keep the relationship was to let it go for a while to let her get well. If you are wondering if you struggle with sex and love addiction you can do a 40-questionnaire survey online if you go to google and type in “40 self diagnose question sex and love addicts anonymous”. Brianne's Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram Sex and Love Addiction Imagine if Sex and the City's Samantha was an addict and her drug of choice is MEN. Go on a hilarious, inspiring, and at times, shocking journey as Roxanne conquers her fears, changes her ways, gets closer to healthy relationships and embraces self-love a little more each day. After years of working as an image-obsessed actress in Hollywood, Roxanne finds herself at rock bottom from a disease that is anything but glamorous. In her first year of recovery, Roxanne has to take accountability for her past. From tales of being mistaken for a prostitute at the Hotel Bel-Air to botching a threesome attempt with an A-list celebrity, she must face the truth about herself and stop playing the victim. Roxanne's odyssey of using sex and love—as destructive and beguiling as an alcoholic reaching for a bottle—is a veritable rollercoaster of ups and downs, laughter and tears, and a true testament to facing your absolute truth and conquering your fears. So take a front-row seat into this complex world of sexual addiction, love addiction and the transformational power of releasing your shame and living a sober life. Secret Life of a Hollywood Sex & Love Addict has the vibrant, relatable vibe of chick lit, the soul-baring honesty of a memoir and the wisdom of a self-help book. In this unique roman à clef novel, Brianne Davis shares her own intimate experience with the transformational power of the twelve-steps, providing strength and hope for anyone who wants to change their life forever: The 12-steps of recovery are broken down to help both the addict and those that love them. Identifying and isolating behaviors of sexual addiction, and the road to sexual health recovery Looking inside and finding out the WHY. Dating sober and building a community of sober women. Love addiction, the willingness to be honest, self-care and becoming authentic. Practical tips and tools to enhance your life, let go of shame and embrace self-love. Brianne talks about her book “Secret Life of a Hollywood Sex and Love Addict” when she was asked why she wrote the book and why she wanted to write the book, Brianne responded by saying she was never planning on writing a book. Brianne did not want to break her anonymity and be a speaker and author but when she got to her 10-year sober mark she got this overwhelming feeling of being of service bigger than herself. Brianne's husband found a writing class that he suggested she take, and Brianne was very close minded at first. After being suggested again and again to take the class Brianne finally did and ended up writing the first draft of the book in 45 days. Brianne later wrote an article for the Huff Post and when it came out, she thought her acting career was going to be over because everyone would know she was a sex and love addict, but after the article came out, nothing happened. No one said anything and she realized how small she really was in this world and her sharing her story was not as big as a deal as she thought, and no one was going to judge her or she wont lose her job. Brianne explains one thing she did learn is that once she shared her story on a global stage, that last bit of shame she had went away, knowing her story is out there helping people. Buy The Book

In 2017, an MWP reader named Heather reached out to us suggesting we cover the topic of the end of childbearing. Her idea blossomed into our End of the Childbearing Years series, in which we published nearly a hundred stories from Mormon women about this important life transition. Meredith Nelson interviews Heather about her own story in this episode, beginning with her childhood in Salt Lake County in the 1970s and 80s, the third in a family of nine children. They discuss what Heather learned through her journey about womanhood, mothering, agency, and revelation.
