On this Make a Difference Minute, I have Mrs. Alabama 2025 Brianna Sistrunk as she shares about Chasing the Rainbows, an organization supporting families experiencing infertility, miscarriage, pregnancy loss, and infant loss. For Brianna, the mission is deeply personal. After losing her daughter Madison, she eventually began sharing her experience through a series of videos on YouTube. Her goal was simply to help other women who had experienced a similar loss. After that, women she had never met began reaching out. Some found her through YouTube and then searched for her on social media. Others were friends who knew her story and felt comfortable turning to her after experiencing a miscarriage of their own. Brianna began that series in 2016. Ten years later, women are still finding those videos and reaching out to tell her, “I've been through this too.” It's a powerful reminder of what can happen when we're willing to share the difficult parts of our stories. Something you experienced years ago may become exactly what another person needs to hear today. Tonight, I'm joined by Brianna Sistrunk, Alabama State Ambassador for Chasing the Rainbows. For Brianna, this work is personal. In 2015, Brianna was 19 weeks pregnant when she lost her daughter, Madison. A year later, she experienced an ectopic pregnancy. Those losses became part of her story and, over time, part of her desire to help other families walking through infertility, miscarriage, pregnancy loss, & infant loss. Tonight, Brianna will share Madison's story, her own journey through grief, and why she has chosen to use her voice to help others know they're not alone. We'll also talk about her new role as Alabama State Ambassador for Chasing the Rainbows and the effort to connect families across our state with support, resources, and others who understand. Together, Ashleigh and James unpack why the smallest moments often have the biggest impact, and how making time for connection doesn't mean sacrificing learning. They also dive into leadership, discussing how school leaders can encourage fun and creativity without adding pressure, and why giving teachers permission to build relationships in ways that suit their own style is so important. In this episode, we chat about:Why students remember how you made them feel long after they've forgotten the learningCreative ways to transform routines into a relationship-building opportunitiesSimple greeting ritualsHow listening to students' interests can completely change engagement, behaviour and confidence.Practical classroom ideas Why teachers need permission to have fun without feeling like they're creating extra work for everyone elseRelationships aren't something you fit in around the curriculum, they're the foundation that makes great learning possible. My first book, LOSSLESSNESS, is now here! It's the number 1 new release in Consciousness and Thought on Amazon:https://a.co/d/04E0krSuThis talk explores the rainbow as a sacred symbol of pride, spirituality, and mystical insight: a sign that difference need not mean division, and unity need not require sameness. Through queer theory and wisdom traditions from around the world, the rainbow can be seen as a flag and even a theology of radiant continuity. Its colors can be named but not finally separated; each hue matters, yet all arise from one light. No color, no body, no form of love is exiled from the wholeness of the divine.

Why are there so many songs about rainbows (and what's on the other side)? A bridge between worlds, a map to a pot of gold, the centerpiece of a Lisa Frank trapper-keeper, and of course, an ever-changing symbol of the LGBTQ+ community, the rainbow has been a profound part of the human experience for thousands of years. For this early Pride Month episode, science correspondent and bisexual seagull Lulu Miller explains to Sarah the history of our understanding of rainbows: why they exist, what they are made out of, and what they have represented. Together they discuss the figures that have tried to pin down this natural wonder, the power of its spectrum of meaning, and the comfort and terror of the infinity it once represented. Digressions include the boring transcendence of 2001: A Space Odyssey, the secret joys of trigonometry, and the best gay Hannibal Lecter. More Lulu Miller:https://radiolab.org/team/lulu-millerLulu on InstagramLulu's book Why Fish Don't ExistOriginal music in this episode brought to you by Magpie Cinema Club featuring Brendan LiuExcept for "Roy G Biv" from this episode of Lulu's WNYC show Terrestrials, which is written and performed by Alan Goffinski and included on The Bridge EPAnd also Spanish Flea by Herb AlpertEdited + Produced by Miranda Zickler:http://linktr.ee/mirandatheswampmonsterMore You're Wrong About:Bonus Episodes on PatreonBuy cute merchSupport the show
