It's called The Great Plant-Based Con, and boy oh boy, is it a con. From NGOs, Big Pharma, Big Ag, celebrities, universities, researchers, government - it's a complicated web of interconnected incentives. I ask listeners to go into this podcast with an open mind, and truly listen to the knowledge of author Jayne Buxton based on the incredible amount of research she did in putting this book together.Get your copy of The Great Plant-Based Con NOW: https://thegreatplantbasedcon.comJayne was born in the UK and has lived in Canada, the US and the UK. She has an MBA from IMD Business School and a master's degree in creative writing from Kingston University. She spent fifteen years working as a management consultant specialising in business strategy and data analysis at a major international consultancy before publishing her first work of nonfiction, Ending the Mother War, Starting the Workplace Revolution in 1998. After the publication of Ending the Mother War, she became a regular spokesperson and writer on work-life issues. She has now turned to writing full-time. Like Ending the Mother War, Jayne's new book, The Great Plant Based Con, challenges the dominant narrative about an important issue and proposes a compelling alternative perspective. Join us as we explore:Why following the money is at the core of the plant-based revolutionThe incredible distortion of the public's perception when it comes to environmental statistics and agriculture. Why believing plant-based eating or veganism is “death free” is completely wrong and dishonest. The corruption and distortion done in the name of science to smear the consumption of proteinThe bioavailability and conversion ability of nutrients in plants is misunderstood, and why plant-based diets are usually grossly caloric rich. Dr. Hoffman continues his conversation with Jayne Buxton, author of "The Great Plant-Based Con: Why eating a plants-only diet won't improve your health or save the planet."
Jayne Buxton is the author of "The Great Plant-Based Con: Why eating a plants-only diet won't improve your health or save the planet." It's replete with scientific references. Her exposé pushes back on the widely-popularized notion that drastic reduction of animal protein will improve human health while heading off planetary catastrophe—Buxton demonstrates the science behind it is weak and steeped in confirmation bias. She probes the forces aligned to propagate that message—a powerful alliance of Big Food, Big Medicine, Big Agriculture, Big Philanthropy, Big Media, Big Government, and Big Academia. The EAT-Lancet initiative, which proposes draconian restrictions on animal protein consumption, failed muster in a recent trial intended to demonstrate its effectiveness against heart disease and cancer. Meat and full-fat dairy are not the problem, but the excess carbs that are inevitable with many vegetarian diets are. Buxton contends the world's population can be fed and the environment safeguarded by adoption of regenerative agriculture.
Climate change and global warming have been such a huge part of the daily news cycle, could we be distracted from the real problems that are harming our planet and human health?Jayne Buxton, author of The Great Plant-Based Con, exposes the mind games disguised as “solutions” that have confused and sickened so many people — like diets that exclude meat or most fruits and vegetables — and shares what we can do to take back control of the conversation engineered by the billionaire architects behind the scenes and protect our health in this non-vegan Living 4D conversation.Learn more about Jayne and her work on her website or via social media on X/Twitter.TimestampsThe food debate began in 2019. We've all heard vegan diets are better for our health and the planet. But what you might not know is there are many vested interests in the “plant-based” message and vegan diets can cause serious (and sometimes irreversible) health issues, especially for kids. Which is why in this week's podcast brilliant author and journalist, Jayne Buxton, breaks down the serious flaws with plant-based diets outlined in her groundbreaking book, The Plant-Based Con. If you are considering going vegan for your health or the planet or have friends and family who are, this podcast is a must-listen! Here are some of my favorite takeaways: Common nutrient deficiencies in vegan diets Why anti-nutrients can be an issue for vegans The dangers of vegan diets in kids Who benefits from plant-based messaging Why the media is reluctant to talk about the danger of vegan diets The problem with the research against meat Why dietary guidelines recommend reducing red meat The real dietary culprits The truth about beef's environmental footprint Why models of food's carbon emissions can be faulty Why the Global Burden of Disease's recommendation to avoid red meat is problematic Why the “eat less meat” message benefits the economy How her life has changed since she wrote the book Please listen and share this important information with anyone who may benefit. I sincerely hope it's helpful. Valuable Resources: Paleovalley Grass Fed Beef Sticks >>> Try the highest quality, nutrient-dense, clean protein with Paleovalley's 100% Grass Fed Beef Sticks HERE! One of the most important personal choices you can make about your health and about aging well, centres on nutrition. The reality is that we are what we eat. Food and the social aspects of eating together is an important aspect of daily life. And society's hunger for knowledge about food and health is reflected in the tsunami of contradictory information that floods our newspapers, magazines, computers and televisions every day. It's hard for even a dedicated researcher like me to make sense of it. Sadly, as for many important issues of the day, discussion about nutrition and health has become a battleground rather than arena where investigation and thoughtful debate occurs so that we can make informed choices. And the key word is choice. As a medical specialist in human biochemistry with a particular focus on nutrition and micronutrients, I have been perplexed by the drive to force consumers onto a diet based solely on plants, with claims that this would be good for our health and the only solution to save our planet. Where in the battleground of extremes between vegans and carnivores is there a place for those of us who believe that we should have access to fresh, whole foods, meat, fish, poultry, eggs, vegetables, nuts, seeds, healthy fats, cheese or yogurt, and choose what feels right for us? Today I talk to Jayne Buxton, journalist, former business analyst, entrepreneur and author of The Great Plant-Based Con: Why eating a Plants-only diet won't improve your health or save the planet. There is much to unpack in this extensively researched and referenced book, but our conversation focuses on 3 key areas. How a plant-only diet affects human health, the mythology that asserts that a plant-only diet is best for the planet, and what are the powerful forces propelling us towards a plant-only diet, and away from the freedom to choose what we put in our bodies. In this conversation we could only touch on highlights from the book. This episode is brought to you by Mitopure, InsideTracker, and Rupa Health. The topic of veganism is hotly debated in terms of health and environmental stewardship. But how did the idea that being vegan is the best way to eat for our bodies and the planet develop in the first place? The answer is more complex than you might think. On this episode of The Doctor's Farmacy, Jayne Buxton challenges the notion that veganism is the cure for disease and climate change and explains how we got here. A British-Canadian, Jayne Buxton is an author of both fiction and non-fiction. She spent fifteen years doing research-intensive work as a management consultant for a major firm before writing her 1998 book, Ending the Mother War: Starting the Workplace Revolution, which explored the entrenched positions and false choices faced by women wanting to combine motherhood with careers. Jayne subsequently spent years working in the field of work-life balance, advising both parents and corporations, before turning to writing full time. Her new book, The Great Plant-Based Con, challenges the dominant narrative about the vegan diet and proposes a compelling new perspective. This episode is brought to you by Mitopure, InsideTracker, and Rupa Health.Get 10% off Mitopure at timelinenutrition.com/drhyman and use code DRHYMAN10 at checkout.Right now InsideTracker is offering my community 20% off at insidetracker.com/drhyman.Rupa Health is a place where Functional Medicine practitioners can access more than 2,000 specialty lab tests.
