China kopiert. Europa reguliert. Each year, the gas and oil industry produces billions of tons of waste — much of it toxic and radioactive. The fracking boom has only worsened the problem. Where does this waste go? In this webinar, co-presented with the Collaborative for Health and Environment and the Science and Environmental Health Network (SEHN), Host Kristin Schafer will explore the topic with author Justin Nobel, Dr. Larysa Dyrszka, and James Brugh, a tribal member of Fort Berthold in western North Dakota. His investigation into the radioactivity brought to the surface in oil and gas production was published in 2020 with Rolling Stone Magazine, “America's Radioactive Secret,” and awarded best long-form narrative by the National Association of Science Writers. Justin's reports on this in his latest book, Petroleum-238: Big Oil's Dangerous Secret and the Grassroots Fight to Stop It (Simon & Schuster 2024). Ever shown up to a party wearing the same outfit as someone else? That's exactly what happened to Larysa Santiago and her pickleball partner; it's all about sport, style, and solidarity. This week, we're joined by Larysa, a charter member and "Erne Coordinator" of the Southlake Paddle Club, who brings to the table not just her tales of sartorial synergy but also her transformative journey with pickleball during a tumultuous period. We unwrap the layers of team spirit and the profound personal impacts that pickleball has on players, all while reveling in the delightful mishaps and coincidences that make the sport so endearing. What's the secret ingredient to a thriving sports partnership? If you ask us after this week's chat with Larysa, it's a combination of matching outfits, shared goals, and a dash of serendipity. We reflect on the lighter side of competition, including a "blind date" with a new partner that led to unexpected success. Our conversation spins from personal victories on the court to the psychological battles players face, and we marvel at how pickleball creates a vibrant community of friends, families, and (in this case) former rugby players turned pickleball enthusiasts.Strap in for a volley of laughter, strategy, and heart as we share stories from our growing pickleball community. This episode serves up memorable wins, the thrills of nail-biting defense and offense plays, and the sheer joy that echoes beyond the bounds of the court. Whether you're swinging a paddle for the first time or you're the king or queen of your local pickleball court, Larysa's infectious passion for the game is a reminder of the beauty and camaraderie found in this rapidly expanding sport. Join us for an episode that's as much about friendship and finding joy in life as it is about the game of pickleball itself.Larysa Santiago is a local (Southlake, TX) pickleball influencer, #BlazingPaddles founding member, Southlake Paddle Club Charter Member, Erne Coordinator, former gymnast and rugby player. Ora vive a Viterbo.

In this episode, Dan discusses becoming the future of work sherpa: Months ago, I challenged myself to come up with a succinct value statement to explain the scope of my work. I also sought to differentiate myself from other experts in future of work. And that is how I arrived at the notion that I am the future of work sherpa whose mission it is to help people connect with work that is profound, protects the planet, empowers people and communities, and is fun to do—meaningful work. Although I have never mountain-climbed, I am a lifelong hiker who loves the adventure of an arduous trek. And, I have always admired the unsung heroes of the Himalayas who help others ascend the world's highest peaks. The challenge that people seeking future work have is that their work-journey involves more than job seeking. They must DREAM, EXPLORE, STRATEGIZE and ACT to reach their work and career goals. Oftentimes, that is too big a lift for career seekers to do on their own. They need the future of work sherpa. And that is where I come in. Also in this episode, we meet Larysa Kautz. She is the CEO of Melwood, a nonprofit that helps people with disabilities find and do meaningful work. Larysa is not a sherpa, and certainly not a mountain-climber. But she helps her clients summon super-human skill to do the work of their dreams. Interview begins at 6:16 Larysa Kautz earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from Connecticut College and a Juris Doctorate from Yale Law School. Larysa lives and works in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
