We begin this episode reminding you to vote for Michael's nominees from ‘The Newsreader' in the Logie Awards and of course Em's bestie Julia Morris, who's NEVER won a Logie! Then we need to talk about someone announcing their upcoming Arena Spectacular, it's Em, she's taking over MC (Mariah Carey) Arena, Saturday December 7, to deliver ‘Outgrown the Arena Spectacular', with side quests on Chappell Roan and Kesha thrown in. Speaking of Arenas, we follow that with the news that Celine clapped back at Donald Trump with a sassy statement after he used ‘My Heart Will Go On' at one of his rallies. We also need to delve into the bizarre revelation that US Presidential candidate RFK Jr dumped a dead bear cub in Central Park back in 2014, because why wouldn't he do something like that? After that we're keen to talk about the trainwreck of a PR campaign happening for the new movie based on the beloved #BookTok book ‘It Ends With Us'. There's a LOT to unpack involving the movie's star Blake Lively, costar and director Justin Baldoni and even Blake's husband Ryan Reynolds and his ‘Deadpool & Wolverine' co-star Hugh Jackman. Finally we need to talk through some of our fave moments from the Closing Ceremony in Paris as well as doing an ‘Okay, Stop!' on that very unique appearance from Tom Cruise. Then in our Sealed Section, on our premium service Emsolation Extra, Em and Michael talk about Rachael Gunn, aka Raygun's performance during the breakdancing competition at the Games. For your consideration, here is episode fifteen of "It's a Ponderous Life", the place where I offer you the weekly rantings of a middle aged man trying to come to grips with life, where the wife and kids all have their own lives that don't require me, and I get fist shakingly annoyed at the world as I see it. As the title of this week's episode suggests, I have a few problems with the recent announcement of the people who have been nominated for the Gold Logie at Australian TV's ‘so-called' night of nights, the Logie Awards. A couple of years ago I did an episode wondering why these awards still even exist. And on today's program I will probably revisit some of those thoughts, as well as expanding on a few of the current ones. In amongst that are a couple of other quick items which I feel I should add, just for the general amusement of... myself. So please join me in my quest to get a few things off my chest, in another episodic enlightenment of “It's a Ponderous Life”, right here on Thoughts from the Metal Cavern. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/metalcavern/message

We all have setbacks in life - but it's what you do with them that really matters. Today, I sit down with Anita Jacoby, one of Australia's most distinguished television producers, as she shares her insights on resilience, her mindset on setbacks and how she forged a successful career in a male-dominated industry. We hear about how she first started channelling courage from a young age and her advice on taking action to create the life you want. During her career, Anita has worked on some of the nation's most credible and cutting edge programs, spanning all commercial networks, as well as the ABC, SBS and Foxtel. She has received four AFI Actor Awards, a Logie Award, a Human Rights Award and the Asia Broadcasting Union Award. She is also an author, having recently published her book Secrets Beyond the Screen, and is a notable advocate for women in leadership. Growing up professionally in the 80s and 90s, Anita faced many challenges in the early days of commercial television, including bullying and harassment. And while misogynistic treatment was normalised, Anita was determined to demonstrate that gender shouldn't define one's capabilities. She talks about the importance of mentors like her father and Kevin Weldon, who empowered her and instilled the belief that anything is possible. It goes to show how crucial role models are in guiding us towards the ambitious goals we set out to achieve. Anita speaks fondly of her father, a World War II refugee and founder of Sony in Australia, who was her greatest influence in achieving greatness. She talks about the emotional process of researching and writing about her father's life for her memoir, and the challenges of reconciling conflicting aspects of his legacy. Anita reminds us to connect with loved ones and learn about their experiences while we're still able. Having experienced significant setbacks in life, Anita explains how she chooses to see the good takeaways that come from them, rather than dwell on the bad. It's this mindset that has empowered her to muster the courage and resilience to keep going. I know you'll be as inspired as I was to channel your own courage, develop resilience and pave a path towards the fulfilling career and life you want. She has starred in not just one, but several of Australia's most iconic and beloved TV shows of all time – with a cabinet full of Logie Awards to prove it. So what is the secret to Rebecca Gibney's success? According to the woman herself, the answer is kindness. She recalls being told as a young actor by a co-star that the best advice he could give her to build a long term career was to treat everyone with respect. “Sometimes I'm not the best actor for the job,” Rebecca insists in this interview with Something To Talk About, “but I know people will employ me because they'll go: she's going to show up on time, she's going to know her lines and she's going to be kind.”It's an attitude that has not only helped the Packed to the Rafters star become one of the most popular and acclaimed actors in the country, but has served her well offscreen, too. As she explains in this episode, kindness and a lack of ego has played a key role in her marriage, helped her navigate the trauma of a childhood shaped by domestic violence, kept her grounded in her faith and taught her the value of being a little kinder to herself. As someone who has been open about mental health struggles and family violence long before such issues became part of the national conversation, her honesty has had a profound impact on many – a candour she now extends to sharing make-up free selfies on social media to help make other women feel better about themselves. And as she looks ahead to celebrating her 60th birthday next year, she gets frank about what she calls the “privilege” of growing older. So what does she think of the famous joke that there are only three ages for women to play onscreen: babe, district attorney and Driving Miss Daisy? You can see Rebecca in the Stan Original Series, Prosper premiering January 2024 on Stan. Selling to multiple customer personas is tricky. Can your marketing appeal to all of them at once? You probably think, “Well, each persona has different pain points and things they care about.” But once you start thinking about all of the personas as just being people, you realize that they do care about the same things. So when you can appeal to the things your prospects care about most, you unlock the secret to creating an emotional bond with your audience that will place you above your competitors. To explore this idea, we're watching the hit animated series that The Guardian called, "arguably the best television series in the world," Bluey. As blue heelers are known as super energetic dogs, Bluey is always turning things into an adventure and using her imagination to do it.It premiered in 2018 and is currently on its third season, and was created by Joe Brumm. It stars the voices of David McCormack as the dad and Melanie Zanetti as the mom. Bluey, Bingo, and some of their friends aren't credited because they're voiced by children of the TV production crew, and it's to protect their identities. It's the #1 Australian children's TV show, Nominated for the 2023 Logie Award for Most Outstanding Children's Program. 2022 AACTA Award winner for Best Children's Program. 2019 International Emmy winner for Kids: Preschool. The Guardian has called it "arguably the best television series in the world".What B2B Companies Can Learn From Bluey:Tap into emotion. Think of your audience as human, and appeal to their very human needs, wants and desires. It could be that your product saves them time to go enjoy more family time, time outside, or time doing literally anything other than working. Appeal to that. Nate says, “”In marketing, emotion is the number one tool that we have to use. I think especially in B2B marketing, it's probably the most underutilized tool, is trying to elicit some sort of emotion in the content that you create.” And Bluey does this by exploring real life situations like a boy who has ADHD and struggles with sitting still in school all day, or Bluey's dad making a mistake and feeling inadequate as a father. B2B marketing isn't for robots; use emotion and see engagement hit the ceiling.Make it quick. Boil your story down to create maximum impact in a short amount of time. Bluey episodes are a few minutes at most. Which makes them insanely digestible, and they still draw tears from parents watching with their kids. Of course, this masterful storytelling isn't easy to do. Nate says, “How can you tell the most compelling story that evokes the most emotion in the most efficient way possible? And that requires a lot of work. I don't think most people are willing to do that work. I think it's much easier to write out a list of features on your website and say, ‘This is how we can help you.' But the alternative is more powerful.” Spending time to craft a campaign that tells your story efficiently and with emotion pays off.Show that you understand your audience to earn their trust. Research your target buyer to figure out what they care about. Then leverage that in your marketing as a powerful trust-building tool. Nate says, “If you can describe the problem, the life, the struggles that your buyers are facing better than they can describe it themselves, they will automatically assume that you have the best solution. Having that empathy and understanding, and being able to communicate that back to them through your marketing messaging is going to accelerate the buying process and help you win business faster than anything else that you can do.” It's like how parents have learned to trust Bluey to thoughtfully explore real life topics in a compassionate way that children will understand. So when kids want to watch something, Bluey is not just a safe option, but an educational one as well. Bluey then becomes an easy go-to. Just like your product will be.Quotes*”Accounting, a great example. Accounting might be boring, but accountants are not, because accountants are people. And people are not boring if you ask them the right questions. If you're trying to sell accounting, then you're going to fail. But if you're trying to solve a problem for accountants and you do a really good job understanding them, understanding what they're struggling with and what they want out of life, and you have empathy for their situation as an accountant, then you can find some really compelling stories to tell. But it's curiosity about the people that creates the good story. It's not what the people do. It's not the activity that's interesting in and of itself.” - Nate Bagley*”Focus. Focus more of your time and energy on learning how to tell good stories, and learning how to tell good stories in a really powerful way that evokes emotion and makes people feel understood and seen. And they'll trust that you have exactly what they need to take away the pain or increase the rate of success around what they're doing on a day to day basis.” - Nate BagleyTime Stamps[0:50] Introducing Content Leader Nate Bagley[1:22] What makes Bluey impactful?[3:33] What's Bluey about?[7:45] Why is Bluey Remarkable?[10:54] What B2B Marketing lessons can we take from Bluey?[20:06] How does Bluey use emotion?[26:03] How can we applying Bluey's storytelling techniques in marketing?LinksWatch BlueyConnect with Nate on LinkedInAbout Remarkable!Remarkable! is created by the team at Caspian Studios, the premier B2B Podcast-as-a-Service company. Mike Diamond is an Author, Television Personality, Director, Life Coach and Interventionist. Known for his work on the hit TV shows NY Ink and Bondi Ink Tattoo Crew, which is currently nominated for a Logie Award for Best Reality Series. Originally from Perth, Western Australia, Mike got off to a bit of a rough start. Battling undiagnosed dyslexia, he started using drugs and alcohol at age 12. At age 16, he was expelled from Aquinas College and finished at Melville H.S. Immediately after graduation, Mike moved to Sydney and enrolled at the Actors Center. He got a job at a local clothing store which, unbeknownst to him at the time, would change his life forever. Lady Luck was on Mike's side when a customer at the store handed him a Green Card Lottery ticket. Mike won a green card in 1997 and made the move to Miami. Shortly after his arrival, Mike landed a role on the CBS sitcom, Grapevine from Director David Frankel. After Grapevine, Mike moved to NYC, where he worked on various projects including as a guest star on Sex and the City. Mike wrote, created and starred in a VH1 pilot with former STP and Velvet Revolver frontman, Scott Weiland. Splitting his time between NYC, Miami and Los Angeles, Mike had regular gigs performing stand up at Caroline's on Broadway and The Comedy Store. Mike was properly introduced into the tattoo world when he appeared on Miami Ink. He later became the store manager for his good friend, Ami James, at Wooster St and starred on Season 3 of NY Ink. Mike then headed back to his hometown where he wrote, directed, produced, and starred in Bondi Ink Tattoo Crew, based on Bondi Beach. Although Mike has had plenty of “highs” in his life, he has also had his “low” moments along the way. Mike has battled cocaine and alcohol addiction for the majority of his life. The defining moment came at the height of his career while shooting a TV show for VH1. To the outside world, Mike looked like he was living the dream but on the inside, Mike was spiritually bankrupt and miserable. He realized that if he didn't turn his life around, he was going to die. April 16, 2006 was the day Mike Diamond got sober. Since then, Mike has literally helped hundreds of people on the road to recovery. He is on beck and call to all his clients and friends, helping them through their life problems and battles with addiction. This chat I am joined by actors ‘Mirranda Otto' and ‘Hazem Shammas.' We unpack their latest roles in 'Disney +' first Australian scripted drama series called ‘The Clearing' which starts today on 'Disney +.' “The Clearing” is an eight-part psychological thriller based on the best-selling crime novel ‘In The Clearing', which is inspired by the darkness of real-life-cults in Australia and around the world. Filmed across Victoria, “The Clearing” is an emotional and psychological thriller that follows the nightmares of a cult and a woman who's forced to face the demons from her past in order to stop the kidnapping and coercion of innocent children in the future. The limited series stars Australia actress ‘Miranda Otto.' (‘Miranda' is the daughter of actors ‘Barry' and ‘Lindsay Otto' and the paternal half-sister of Australian Film maker ‘Gracie Otto.' Who is one of the directors of ‘The Clearing.' ‘Miranda' is one of Australia's most successful actresses to work internationally and it is fantastic to see her back in Australia - telling this story for ‘Disney +.') Actor ‘Hazem Shammas' joins her in the series. (‘Hazem' is a Palestinian Australian actor. He won the 2018 ‘Logie Award' for Most Outstanding Supporting actor for 'Safe Harbour' and has gone on to star in ‘The Twelve' for ‘Foxtel' and ‘After the Verdict' for ‘Channel Nine.') It is exciting to talk to them both in this interview about their characters and how this show came together. I will ask ‘Miranda Otto' why this series didn't use the names of the real life cult called ‘The Family' considering it is so close to that particular crime in Melbourne. ‘Hazem Shammas' will talk about his joy working with ‘Miranda Otto' and we will unpack a fantastic piece of improvisation that occurred in one scene which really displayed their roles of good and evil. We will discuss the power of manipulation with ‘Miranda Otto' and find our why ‘Hazem Shammas' thinks true crime is so popular at the moment, Plus we will ALSO get plenty of exclusives from behind the scenes of 'The Clearing' which as I mentioned starts today on ‘Disney +. ‘See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this week's episode of Off the Cuff with Danny LoPriore, we have renowned author, TV personality director, life coach, and interventionalist, Mike Diamond. Mike has written several books on the human mindset and today Danny sits down with him to talk about how he managed to achieve success as a dyslexic person with ADHD and drug addiction after hitting rock bottom. Listen to the podcast as both men discuss the present and reflect on their past. It's all about taking advantage of opportunities life throws at you according to Mike. It's a very frank and inspiring discussion between two individuals with similar pasts that you will surely enjoy. “Preparation meets opportunity is luck. But if you're not prepared, you don't get the opportunity.” – Mike (31:25) Nothing is off-limits in this episode. From Mike's drug addiction to suffering abuse at an early age, to living with ADHD, listen in as Mike provides practical advice and insights about healing your mindset which can be done in many ways including through a simple act of forgiveness. “I'm empathizing and being compassionate for a person that didn't have the ability to self-regulate.
