Ep#090 Dilrukshi is an international award-winning investigative journalist and a lawyer from Sri Lanka. She has worked extensively across South Asia as an on-ground reporter and trainer. As an investigative journalist, she has broken stories on grand corruption and crime, conflict and communities, and dedicated significant time to reporting on women, children, health, and the environment. A recipient of many prestigious journalism fellowships, she won the coveted Wash Media Award in 2014. She was also the Sri Lankan Journalist of the Year in 2012. Sushav and Dilrukshi discuss Sri Lanka's complex socio-political history, including its violent ethnic conflict and colonial legacy, exploring the role of various events in shaping its identity. Drawing simultaneously from her work and her lived experience of the war, Dilrukshi illustrates the political roots of the conflict, reflecting on the civil war's impact and the quest for ethnic minority rights, including the rise of groups like the LTTE. They also examine international influences, notably from India, China, and the West, on Sri Lanka's political landscape and review its governance challenges, human rights issues, and economic reforms. The dialogue concludes with reflections on Sri Lanka's civic space, civil society, press freedom, and the broader South Asian context of handling dissent and nurturing democratic spaces. In the gripping fourth episode, Rajdeep and Nikhil explore the unforgettable moments of the 1996 Cricket World Cup, a tournament that brought a remarkable shift in cricketing dynamics. This world cup held immense significance for Sri Lanka, a country that had long remained overshadowed by cricketing giants like India and Pakistan. At the heart of the discussion was the emergence of private news television in India, which significantly changed the media landscape during the tournament. Unlike the previous edition in 1987, where Doordarshan was the sole broadcaster, 1996 witnessed the rise of private news channels, eagerly seeking to cover the World Cup and capitalize on the fervor of cricket-crazy fans. However, this newfound competition between Doordarshan and private channels led to a major controversy. The tournament was supposed to be jointly hosted by India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, but political turmoil in Sri Lanka forced Australia and West Indies to withdraw from playing there. Sri Lanka had faced a decade of terrorism in the 1990s, with the LTTE causing havoc, including the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi in 1991. Co-hosting the World Cup was seen as a step towards normalcy, and India and Pakistan stood in solidarity with Sri Lanka while the western world hesitated. The new format of the tournament came under scrutiny, leading to some intriguing discussions during the episode. Rajdeep and Nikhil also delve into India's campaign in the World Cup, particularly their iconic match against Pakistan, which took place on Indian soil for the first time in World Cup history. One of the significant moments of the tournament was India's match against Sri Lanka, where questions arose about India's decision to bat first despite knowing that the pitch would favor spin bowling. Years later, match-fixing controversies would surround this match, with fingers pointed at Azharuddin for allegedly taking that decision under match-fixing pressures. CoRoT-TESS eclipsing binaries with light-travel-time effect by T. Hajdu et al. on Monday 05 September Identifying long-period eclipsing binaries with space-based photometry is still a challenge even in the century of space telescopes due to the relatively short observation sequences and short lifetime of these missions. The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) space telescope is an appropriate tool to supplement previous space-based observations. In this paper we report the first results of the eclipse timing variation (ETV) analyses of eclipsing binaries (EBs) measured by CoRoT and TESS space telescopes. Among the 1428 EB candidates we found 4 new potential triple candidates, for which ETV was analysed and fitted by the well-known light-travel-time effect (LTTE). One of them shows significant phase shift in its folded light curve which required extra care. In this paper we also present some other systems showing significant ETV signals that could be explained by mass transfer or apsidal motion. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2209.01142v1
In the town of Rameswaram in Coastal Tamil Nadu, a boy is born into a fishing caste household. Across the Indian ocean in Sri Lanka, another boy is born into another household from the same fishing caste. Uncharacterstically, both of these men went on to become really famous in their own countries, taking up high ranking political and millitary positions. This week, in the thirteenth episode of Fabulous Foods, we travel to coastal Tamil Nadu, and discover the bizzare connection between Jesus Christ, the deadly militant organisation LTTE, and a simple food which shatters our ideas of entire cuisines in India. Tune in, and discover how this food was the favourite of both these men, and simply how diverse is India's culinary heritage.A special thanks to Harishankar who helped me with pronunciations of Tamil words. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam was a Tamil militant organization that was based in northeastern Sri Lanka. Its aim was to secure an independent state of Tamil Eelam in the north and east in response to the state policies of successive Sri Lankan governments that were widely considered to be discriminatory towards the minority Sri Lankan Tamils, as well as the oppressive actions—including anti-Tamil pogroms in 1956 and 1958—carried out by the majority Sinhalese. Initially starting out as a guerrilla force, the LTTE increasingly came to resemble that of a conventional fighting force with a well-developed military wing that included a navy, an airborne unit, an intelligence wing, and a specialised suicide attack unit. In particular, India's relationship with the LTTE was complex, as it went from initially supporting the organisation to engaging it in direct combat through the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF), owing to changes in the former's foreign policy during the phase of the conflict. The LTTE gained global notoriety for using women and children in combat and carrying out a number of high-profile assassinations, including former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991 and Sri Lankan President Ranasinghe Premadasa in 1993. Over the course of the conflict, the LTTE frequently exchanged control of territory in the north-east with the Sri Lankan military, with the two sides engaging in intense military confrontations. It was involved in four unsuccessful rounds of peace talks with the Sri Lankan government and at its peak in 2000, the LTTE was in control of 76% of the landmass in the Northern and Eastern provinces of Sri Lanka. Prabhakaran headed the organisation from its inception until his death in 2009. Between 1983 and 2009, more than 80,000 were killed in the civil war, of which many were Sri Lankan Tamils. 800,000 Sri Lankan Tamils also left Sri Lanka for various destinations, including Europe, North America, and Asia.
A version of this essay was published by firstpost.com at https://www.firstpost.com/india/punjab-phenomenon-is-devastating-psychologically-but-is-it-just-reversion-to-the-mean-10254751.htmlPerhaps I am naive, but growing up in the South, I had a healthy respect for Sikhs, whom I viewed as men of honor and of principle. Later when I lived in California, I visited the Gadar Memorial Hall, and I wrote in 1996 (“Across a chasm of 75 years, the eyes of these dead mean speak to today’s Indian-American”) about the photographs of “glowering young men”, long-dead patriots, mostly Sikhs.I wrote of Kartar Singh Sarabha, the 19-year-old from the University of California, Berkeley, who was hanged by the British for ‘sedition’ in 1915. He inspired others like Bhagat Singh. And then there is the Komagata Maru incident; once again Sikhs were prominent. They were the ones who tried, as economic migrants, to move to Canada and the US, and were forced to return, and massacred on arrival. Thanks for reading Shadow Warrior! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.Later, I read O V Vijayan’s under-appreciated masterpiece The Path of the Prophet, and he spoke of “the lament of the innocent first-borns”, and I learned from a colleague named Inderjeet Gujral how he literally was the first-born of a Hindu family who had become a Sikh.Vijayan wrote of the betrayal ordinary Sikhs felt when the Indian Army attacked the Golden Temple. I wrote about Jallianwallah Bagh (“Remember Jallianwallah Bagh!”) and the sacrifice of the Sikhs, quoting Vijayan (translation from the Malayalam is mine):As far as the eye can see, gallows, hundreds and thousands of them; and on them, smiling, hanged martyrs, Sikhs! Merchants, hedonists, yet they paid the price for freedom. They loved India deeply. In 2019, I went to Kala Pani, the infamous penitentiary in Port Blair, the Andamans. They broke our patriots there, in a Panopticon, as visualized by the famous British liberal Jeremy Bentham. I paid homage to Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. And I read the plaques that had long lists of those incarcerated there: and they were disproportionately Sikhs and Bengalis.Thank you for reading Shadow Warrior. This post is public so feel free to share it.Therefore it is with personal anguish that I have followed the trajectory of the Khalistani movement, and the anti-India fervor espoused by them, including the Air India Kanishka bombing, followed by their infiltration into the farm-bill agitation. There is reason to believe that there are hostile entities’ fingerprints all over. Then there were the horrifying incidents of two lynchings, one in Amritsar and the other in Kapurthala. It is likely that both the victims were Hindus (the authorities have carefully refrained from naming them and the media has not produced tear-jerker stories about their grieving relatives, and by past experience this only happens when the murdered are Hindus). The likely implication is that there is a plan (now that Afghanistan is in the bag) by the ISI to escalate things back to the daily murders and mayhem in the pre-KPS Gill days in the 1990s.Worryingly, this is the same template that was used by the ISI to ethnically cleanse Hindus from Jammu & Kashmir in 1990. In Punjab, too, many Hindus were killed; but there was no exodus. Perhaps the idea now is to create enough terror and force a migration of Hindus out of Punjab. That fits the proposed map from “Sikhs for Justice” of ‘Khalistan’, which, notably, does not include any Pakistani territory, not even the Gurudwara Shri Kartarpur Sahib. That is telling. Also notice that J&K is not even in the map! This is reminiscent of similarly expansive ‘Eelam’ maps put out by LTTE, which included much of southern India. Therefore we can conclude that there is a clear political angle. But there is also a socio-economic angle to the troubles in Punjab. For one thing, there are serious caste fissures among Sikhs, and Jat Sikhs dominate and in some sense oppress SC Sikhs. And apparently Jat-ness transcends religion and even national boundaries: I was amused when a famous woman journalist bragged on Twitter that her half-Pakistani, out-of-wedlock son has classic Jat looks! Apparently this is also behind massive conversions to Christian churches in Punjab recently: what I gather is that the SC Sikhs are converting en masse perhaps in a rebuke to Jats. But I wonder if there are also some more mundane explanations. It may well be a reversion to the mean. Those parts of India that were ahead may well be now declining in relative terms. Similarly there’s the interesting idea of the “middle-income trap” that has caused some nations to stumble in their path to wealth. In addition to Punjab with its many freedom fighters (some of whom are alluded to above), Bengalis clearly led the flowering of a nationalist consensus, and there was a veritable constellation of greats: famous names like Bankim Chandra, Rash Behari Bose, Swami Vivekananda, Shri Aurobindo, Subhas Chandra Bose, all the way to unknowns like Bina Das.So what happened to West Bengal? Why is it benighted, and not the glittering center of Indian civilization? Have both Bengal and Punjab regressed to a mean, after having been outliers for a long time? Of course the two also bore the brunt of Partition. There is another reason to believe there is a reversion to the mean. Consider which states are well off and which states are poor. Look at the poverty rates in the graph.Remarkable, isn’t it? The least poor states are: Kerala, Sikkim, Goa, Delhi and Punjab. For the moment, let us ignore Sikkim, Goa and Delhi as they are small. (By the way, earlier data I found showed that J&K was by far the least poor territory. I am not sure what has changed.) So let us look at Kerala and Punjab. There is a simple reason for Kerala’s prosperity: it is a money-order economy, taking advantage of the superior indices of high school education and of healthcare, a legacy from the enlightened rulers of Travancore. This led to mass emigration, first to the rest of India, and later to many parts of the world: not only West Asia, but also rich white countries. Result: remittance money that props up creaking state finances.Take a look at the footnote in the graph: Kottayam district in Kerala has 0.0% poverty! Why is this? Kottayam (and nearby Ernakulam, also a winner) are the most Christian areas in Kerala, and produce the majority of the nurses who have become a major export: you can find Kerala-origin Christian nurses in large numbers in every part of the rich world. They emigrate, bring family members, and send good money back.More recently there has been a virtual invasion of oil-rich West Asia by Kerala people, leading to a windfall (most often from Muslim-dominated Kozhikode district, another winner). But that is coming to an end: I read that some 15 lakh emigres have returned, often after losing their jobs.Similarly, Punjab’s prosperity is easily explained. Punjabis are talented farmers (note the Sikh-Mexican Catholic farmers of California’s Central Valley who have become some of the biggest producers of almonds and so on there) and landowning castes (Jats in particular) benefited from the Green Revolution. These castes now do not want to share their prosperity with their landless laborer brethren; besides, they figured out how to make big bucks as intermediary arhatiyas who, among other things, ‘import’ lower-priced grain from other states and demand high support prices in Punjab. In other words, their prosperity now depends on looting the taxpayer and converting public property to private gain. Thus the opposition to the farm bills.Slowly but surely, this neat trick will cease to work, and Punjab’s gains will disappear. If I were a betting man, I’d bet on the laggard Gangetic Plain lands: yes, Bihar, UP, MP. All of them are low-hanging fruits, and within a decade, with good policies, leadership and a bit of luck, they will be the places to be. That would only be a reversion to what once was: the Gangetic Plain led the country with its empires: Mauryan, Gupta etc (of course, later there were the Cholas, Chalukyas and Vijayanagar as glittering imperial states). Thus regression to the mean may not be such a bad thing; and it is only in relative terms. In absolute terms, the entire nation will rise. And I suspect Punjabi separatism will subside, too. It is fairly clear that Sikhs are better off in India than in an imaginary ‘Khalistan’: they merely need to reflect on how they had to flee from Afghanistan with their sacred books as soon as the ISI won there.1350 words, 31 Dec 2021 This is a public episode. The Taliban spokesman said today that they had no connection with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a "one-day message" in Sri Lanka. Mano MP further said in this regard, The Afghan people have the right to decide their own future. For the past several decades, Afghanistan has been the playground of the two powers, first the Soviet Union and then the United States. It was the Americans who plunged the Taliban into building the Muhajireen. But the rule of the Taliban in the Middle Ages is unspeakable. The Taliban have angrily violated the internationally accepted human rights charter. They can not be waxed and waxed today that everything is Western media propaganda. However, today we hope that time will teach them a lesson. The right of the innocent Afghan people to determine the future of their country outside of authoritarian motives must first be exercised responsibly by the Afghan rulers, whoever they may be. The Taliban should not be allowed to turn Afghanistan into the playground of another superpower, China, now that their history has deteriorated in the past between the two powers. Maintaining balanced relations with India, Pakistan and China will give the Taliban global recognition. By respecting social justice, law and order, human rights, and especially the right of Afghan women to education and employment, the Taliban must gradually step forward to instill confidence in the Afghan people that this is "our rule." The Taliban should not allow the Afghan younger generation to go back to the fundamentalist 9th century and decide that the last 20 years of US occupation are okay. Without it, life would not return to normal. There will be no stable rule. So, like Russia and the United States, China could run another round. It could turn out to be the final round as well. The river of blood should no longer flow among the innocent Afghan people. A Taliban spokesman said today that "we have nothing to do with the LTTE." It does not immerse anyone here largely in happiness or worry. It is true that during the last interim Taliban regime, the "Bamiyan" world Buddhist heritage monuments were destroyed by gunfire. The Taliban must make it a priority to create a domestic and foreign environment that will bring immediate relief to the Afghan people without committing such outrageous nonsense. He said the Taliban's response to the superpowers occupying Afghanistan was to transform and show itself to be a responsible ruler who loves their people.
The Taliban have declared an end to the war in Afghanistan. President Ashraf Ghani left his country yesterday. In this situation, 20 years later, the Taliban have regained power in Afghanistan. Taliban spokesman Suhail Shaheen said the Taliban had nothing to do with the LTTE. He added, "The Taliban is an independent liberation force. We have been fighting for the liberation of Afghanistan and against foreign occupation for the last 20 years." He also said he was in talks with the Afghan government for a peaceful transfer of power.
The company said the Nike-branded shoes, which were painted with the LTTE logo, were not made by them. This was stated in a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs quoting Nike. The Ministry of External Affairs has observed that a video of Nike (NIKE) branded shoes with the LTTE logo has been circulating on social media. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that when contacted by Nike, it stated that the product was not manufactured by them. The ministry also said that investigations were underway into the misuse of their intellectual property. The Ministry of External Affairs has stated that Nike has announced that appropriate law enforcement will be implemented in line with the company's practice.

On the 30th death anniversary of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, Shekhar Gupta talks about the web of subterfuge and the LTTE's ideological violence behind the assassination, the role of Sri Lanka's prominent political leaders, and the accuracy of Shoojit Sircar's film 'Madras Cafe', in episode 752 of #CutTheClutter
In today's episode we look ahead to a crucial session of the United Nations human rights council on March 22 which will take up a resolution against Sri Lanka. This draft resolution as it is called is based on a damning report by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (UN Human Rights) which warned that Sri Lanka's failure to address human rights violations and war crimes committed in the past had put the country on a “dangerous path” that could lead to a “recurrence” of policies and practices that gave rise to the earlier situation. The UN human rights council has moved several resolutions against Sri Lanka since the end of the conflict with the LTTE 12 years ago, but while Sri Lanka has on occasion been a co-sponsor of such resolutions, the Rajapaksa dispensation has always seen such moves by the UN as 'unwanted foreign interference'. In 2020, Sri Lanka withdrew from an earlier Human Rights Council resolution under which it had committed, five years previously, to a time-bound investigation of war crimes that took place during the military campaign against the LTTE. This time Sri Lanka has officially sought India's help to muster support against the resolution, something that India has never done in the past, but it finds itself having to weigh several geopolitical concerns, not least the growing influence of China in Sri Lanka. What factors could go into India's vote and what ramifications will it have for the geopolitics of the region. Guest: Meera Srinivasan, Colombo Correspondent, The Hindu
Kumaravadivel Guruparan gives a talk as part of the Oxford Transitional Justice Research (OTJR) Seminar Series. In 2015, Sri Lankan witnessed regime change that removed President Mahinda Rajapaksa from power. Mahinda Rajapaksa was the President who led the war against the LTTE to its finish in 2009, a war in which thousands of Tamil civilians were killed. The regime change in 2015 was characterised by many of its supporters as a change that would deliver transitional justice. The new regime also employed the language of transitional justice, particularly in the UN Human Rights Council, in its attempt to divert calls for international accountability and justice for crimes committed during the war. The regime was short lived and fell in 2019 returning another Rajapaksa, Gotabaya Rajapakasa the war-time Defence Secretary as President. This talk will seek to explore the politics of identifying the regime change in 2015 as a transitional moment in Sri Lanka. As a general proposition, it will problematise using 'regime change' as an indicator for transition in deeply divided societies. It will argue that a Transitional Justice narrative that is aligned to the liberal peace tradition is bound to fail given that it fails to engage with the structural issues that inhibit democratic change. It will further argue that misplaced optimism generated by such thinly conceived transitional justice efforts may in fact hurt victims and survivors. Dr Kumaravadivel Guruparan served as an academic attached to the Department of Law, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka between 2010 and 2020 serving as Senior Lecturer at the time of resignation. He served as Head of the Department between January 2017 and November 2019. He is also a practicing attorney and has appeared as lead counsel in a number of cases relating to post-war human rights issues in Northern Sri Lanka including in cases relating to the right to memory, the rights of families of the disappeared and post-war land issues. He is a Co-founder of the Tamil Civil Society Forum and Founder Chair of the Adayaalam Centre for Policy Research, based in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. He holds an LL.B (Hons) from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, a BCL from Balliol College, University of Oxford and a PhD from University College London in Public International Law and Comparative Constitutional Law. He was awarded the Chevening Scholarship in 2010 and the Commonwealth Scholarship in 2013. Guruparan was at the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights as a Research Visitor between October 2020 and January 2021.

People living in areas prone to, or affected by, conflict tend to suffer from many types of deprivation. Some scholars argue that conflict is an important driver of severe food crises and famines, and that undernutrition worsens in situations of prolonged conflicts and in countries and regions with weak institutional capacity. In recent years, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, South Sudan and Ethiopia are just some of the examples that have been used in the literature to illustrate the close linkages between social and political unrest on the one hand and poverty and hunger on the other. But is there a clear-cut relationship between poverty and violent conflict? There appear to be numerous drivers of violence. These often include political, economic, social and environmental issues. While socio-economic inequalities can be a major cause of violence, other causes could include human rights abuses, perceived injustice, systemic corruption, and disagreements over the distribution of natural resources and who gets to benefit from such resources. To discuss some of these issues, I am joined by Patricia Justino who is a development economist and a leading expert on political violence and development. She is the co-founder and co-director of the Households in Conflict Network and is currently a Senior Research Fellow at UNU-WIDER and Professorial Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) in Brighton, UK.We discussed the relationship between poverty and violent conflict, the work of the World Food Programme which received the Nobel Peace Prize last year, and the political economy of war zones. We also discussed how the state or armed groups behave in predatory or conciliatory ways towards local populations, how civilians respond to these strategies, and how reports on political violence are produced and disseminated on social media. In this episode, we discuss the politics around the film 800, the biopic on the legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan and his record of being the first bowler to take 800 Test wickets. This is a film that has been mired in controversy for some time and the latest flash point this week is when the noted actor Vijay Sethupathy pulled out of starring as Murali in the biopic, acting, it seems, upon the advice of Murali himself, who said that he didn't want the actor's career to be tarred by the controversy. What is the controversy? While Muralitharan is a Sri Lankan Tamil who has roots in India, several groups have branded him a “betrayer of Tamils” and alleged that the cricketer supported the killing of Tamil civilians during the armed conflict between the LTTE and the Sri Lankan government. There are many more nuances and complications in this story. Guest: Meera Srinivasan, Sri Lanka Correspondent, The Hindu. Find the In Focus podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Stitcher. Determined to prevent Rajiv Gandhi from returning to power fearing the reinduction of the IPKF, the LTTE supremo Pirabhakaran ordered the killing of Rajiv at a meeting held in Jaffna in October 1990. Dhanu was a member of the LTTE's suicide squad, Black Tigers. Very little is known about her, except that she was an extraordinarily motivated woman and carried out two dry runs during public meetings before targeting then PM Rajiv Gandhi at an election rally in Sriperumbudur. "The right man at the right place is a devastating weapon”, motto of the US Special Forces, aptly summed up the LTTE says Abhay Sapru in his second combat novel, The Beckoning Isle. We discuss the IPKF (Indian Peace Keeping Force) in Sri Lanka, the Tamil Tigers, the paucity of war stories in India and the lack of readership of combat novels. We also cover bizarre occurrences in war and life and catch a rare glimpse of the effects of war on soldiers including post traumatic stress. In this episode of the Polis Project’s Podcast series Suchitra Vijayan speaks to Nitharsan, the coordinator of Puradsi Media, who is part of the collective that edited and published “Structures of Tamil Eelam”, a book that documents how the de –facto Tamil State was built and run during the long years of fight against the Sri Lankan government. The book is a collection of texts and rare photographs that are no longer available in the Tamil homeland, and it documents the various legal, political and administrative of structures that existed throughout the decades in the Northeast. The book through these rare images makes the argument that LTTE built and ran a de-facto state. The conversation discusses the Sri Lankan state’s efforts to re-write history, militarization since 2009, online censorship and what it means to talk about Tamil sovereignty, ten years after the war.
The last series of suicide attacks that occurred in Sri Lanka were by six Sea Tiger suicide boats across the Nandikadal lagoon on 17 May 2009. Two days later, the Sri Lankan Army’s 53 Infantry Division killed in the last single operation of the war, the LTTE’s dreaded and ‘invincible’ leader, Velupillai Prabhakaran. With his end, Sri Lanka went delirious, celebrating through singing, dancing and feasting on traditional milk-rice (kiri bhath), the termination of three decades of terrorism. In his book, Road to Nandikadal: True Story of Defeating Tamil Tigers, Maj Gen Kamal Gunaratne, Commander, 53 Infantry Division writes, “it is now the duty of our leaders, countrymen and future generations to protect this freedom, and (hopefully) it will not be taken for granted and squandered away”. How schools are contributing to truth-seeking, social cohesion and active citizenship in Sri Lanka. The civil war between the Sri Lankan government and the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) ended in 2009, with total defeat of the LTTE and many thousands of civilian casualties. With the election of a new government in 2015, efforts are being made to address the ethno-religious and cultural tensions that led to the war. We have investigated how schools are contributing to truth-seeking, social cohesion and active citizenship, through a qualitative study of six state secondary schools in the north, south, east, west and centre of the country, covering the main different ethnic and religious groups. Teachers are trying to impart values and skills for social harmony, and there is a strong emphasis on leadership but little or no critical thinking or discussion.
Poet and philosopher Daniel Falb reads "Chicxulub Paem" and talks to host Anna M. Szaflarski about its relationship to his research on Geophilosophical Metaphysics; talking about deep geological time, remarking on the relative novelty of global thinking, the athropocene and the mechanics of transcendental empiricism.
