The 2018 Flyers Draft is now in the books. Frankly, it was a rather uneventful draft for Philly as General Manger Ron Hextall didn't make any brash or surprising moves this past weekend. To dissect the results of the Flyers picks, we brought onto the show this week Bill Matz, cohost of Broad Street Hockey Radio (BSH Radio) for a great interview and discussion. What might these picks and their talent bring to the team, and what does this Flyers team look like moving forward? But first, on the Brief News & Views segment:1. Might the Phillies be ready for primetime? (5:45)2. Sixers Talk: our thoughts on the draft results, and whether or not Markelle Fultz should play summer ball. (11:10)3. How important is LB Jordan Hicks to the Eagles defense? (21:55)4. Which Philly sports team would we want to be the GM for? (25:45)Then we get into our Up or Down segment where we briefly analyze Philly sports figures to determine if their needle is moving up or down. (32:00)What we're throwing down on the Table is a fantastic and lively interview with Bill Matz from the BSH Radio podcast. First, we asked Bill his thoughts on how Ron Hextall did this year in the draft. From there we dove into the talent acquired: Joel Farabee, Jay O'Brien and goalie Samuel Ersson as well as other talent. What might the Flyers do with impending free agency to help propel this team to the next level?During the upcoming season, are we going to be "stuck" with the goalies we know all too well – Brian Elliott and Michal Neuvirth? Can the Flyers realistically acquire talent that would be an upgrade from Val Filppula at the 3C? All of these questions and much, much more this week on the Table. (39:55)

But the whole crew remains skeptical of the team as a whole, with specific attention paid to the struggles of Nolan Patrick. They also break down the recurring trade rumors involving Michal Neuvirth. The BSH Radio gang is back in full force to break down a surprising amount of Flyers news. After bemoaning Pittsburgh's luck-filled run to a 2-1 series lead in the Cup Final, the crew theorizes who might win the Conn Smythe, before moving onto the hockey team, the Flyers. Reasonable expectations for the newly-signed Oskar Lindblom are discussed, as Charlie worries that we might be overrating him just a bit. Then, the gang remembers that the Flyers have the 2nd overall pick, and the conversation turns to Nolan Patrick and Nico Hischier news at the NHL Combine. Things get heated as Steph argues that Jordan Weal is more the next Laughton rather than a must-sign player, with Bill and Charlie strongly disagreeing. The show ends with Bill crowing over George McPhee's comment that Michal Neuvirth is "technically perfect," making his "Neuvirth to Vegas" dream just a little more plausible Learn more about your ad choices. It's been weeks since the Flyers' season ended, but the BSH Radio gang is as passionate as ever. Joe Thornton's decision to play through a serious knee injury, the demise of the Maple Leafs, and the cautionary tale of Justin Williams are key topics of conversation, in addition to Carter Hart's Hinkie-esque admission that he "trusts the process" when it comes to his development. Using Hart as a springboard, the gang jumps into the Phantoms' playoff run, which has seen territorial dominance overshadowed by goaltending misfortune. Expansion draft planning closes out the show, as Bill imagines mass trades accompanying his long-standing "Michal Neuvirth to Vegas" theory, while Charlie and Steph try to evaluate more likely scenarios. The Blue Jackets' streak is over, but the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast's streak of appearing in your podcast feed on a weekly basis continues!  The show begins on an optimistic note with Outjuries, where we consider what can be expected by one old and one new Ranger returned to health, the upside of Montreal's #1 centre and his affect on some complementary pieces, a hopefully healed point-per-game Star, and if the return of Ryan Getzlaf can save Elan's bacon in the Rakell over/under bet. Underwhelming crease battles are renewed in Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh, and a pair of blueliners come back to man their teams' top powerplay units. In injuries, the guys wonder if there's top pairing scoring potential from either of the Predators' second pairing mainstays, and also if it's time to just save yourself the headache and rid yourself of Kris Letang.  Hot streaks this week feature the latest of Connor McDavid's benefactors, John Tavares and his benefactors, Anze Kopitar and his benefactor, Torey Krug, and so many Hurricanes because they figured out how to score. Cold streaks include an Oiler on the outside who should be able to do better for himself, another who maybe shouldn't, and a Devil who doesn't happen to be getting in on any of the 1.5 goals the Devils score each game. The show is interspersed with a mess of conversations about goalie messes. Huge messes. Gross messes. Sad messes. So many goalies making messes. After a two week 'break' that saw us release two bonus episodes, Elan and Brian are back for the first 'regular' episode Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast of the year.   This edition opens with an injury and a rant, as Brian lets the world know what he thinks of 'clean hits' in the wake of Patrik Laine's concussion. The guys go on to pinpoint a few rosters that have been hit particularly hard by the injury bug-- Nashville, Montreal, and Florida-- and assess the absences of a scoring winger that poolies, Kings fans, and maybe even Anze Kopitar would love to have back, as well as a first line forward in the desert who is obviously Martin Hanzal. Outjuries come next, with the guys rueing the return of not just a goalie but a goalie controversy in Philadelphia, lauding a rejuvenated lot of top six forwards (and perhaps another goalie controversy to be imminently reignited) in Tampa Bay, wondering whether there's room for more than one productive blueliner in Pittsburgh, and realizing there's not much new to say about the returns of an injury-prone Blackhawk and Hurricane. A short goalie-centric interlude follows, where the league's newest number one goalie's tier placement is assessed, hope is shared regarding a long-standing tandem situation morphing into a clearer #1/#2 scenario, and hope is dashed by two guys who refuse to run away with the starters' job when given the opportunity. Hot streaks feature an entire line of flaming Flames, a near-entire top six of Wild running wild, and an entire touchdown of Leafs who are making it harder to use the word 'Leafy' as a negative connotation. A surprising scoring leader in Vancouver, not either of the first three blueliners you'd guess in Washington, a couple young Red Wings and a pair of Pups (that's what you call a baby shark) round out the segment. And finally, the show closes with cold streaks, with unsurprising visits to the infamous 3rd line in St Louis, and the higher lines in Colorado.  Players mentioned on this episode include Patrik Laine, Mikael Backlund, Bo Horvat, Michael Frolik, Kevin Fiala, Aaron Ekblad, Tyler Johnson, Victor Hedman, PK Subban, Matthew Tkachuk, Kris Letang, Justin Schultz, Connor Brown, Zach Hyman, Anze Kopitar, Jeff Carter, Ryan Strome, Kevin Labanc, Timo Meier, Jacob Trouba, Drew Stafford, Nik Ehlers, Joel Armia, Mark Scheifele, Dustin Byfuglien, Roman Josi, Mattias Ekholm, Ryan Ellis, James Neal, Viktor Arvidsson, Juuse Saros, Pekka Rinne, Tyler Toffoli, Milan Lucic, Jake Muzzin, Alec Martinez, Alex Barkov, Nick Bjugstad, Seth Griffith, Alex Galchenyuk,  Brendan Gallagher, Paul Byron, Philip Danault, Nathan Beaulieu, Martin Hanzal, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Radim Vrbata, Michal Neuvirth, Steve Mason, Nikita Kucherov, Ondrej Palat, Jonathan Drouin, Vladislav Namestnikov, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Ben Bishop, Marian Hossa, Artemi Panarin, Jonathan Toews, Vinny Hinostroza, Justin Faulk, Ty Rattie, Derek Ryan, Victor Rask, Jeff Skinner, Jaroslav Halak, Thomas Greiss, Andrew Ladd, John Gibson, Jonathan Bernier, Brian Elliott, Chad Johnson, Alex Chiasson, Sean Monahan, Johnny Gaudreau, TJ Brodie, Charlie Coyle, Mikael Granlund, Mikko Koivu, Zach Parise, Eric Staal, Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, James van Riemsdyk, William Nylander, Jake Gardiner, Morgan Rielly, Dmitry Orlov, Loui Eriksson, Anthony Mantha, Andreas Athanasiou, Alex Steen, Jaden Schwartz, Tyson Barrie, Matt Duchene, Torey Krug, John Klingberg, Jon Carlson and more. * * *   Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes!   If you enjoy the show, please support future episodes by becoming a patron of Keeping Karlsson.    Keeping Karlsson patrons can join our patron-only Facebook group and take part in (and receive audio from) a monthly live, face-to-face and interactive Keeping Karlsson recording!   You can also support us by telling a friend, subscribing to and reviewing Keeping Karlsson on iTunes, and following us on Twitter (@keepingkarlsson). Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast

Too early for a holiday-related episode title? This brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast makes no apologies!  This week's edition kicks off with injuries, where we pause to consider how the Montreal Canadiens put up a ten-spot without two of their top three centremen, as well as how anything good can happen in Arizona with a key component of their first line gone for a while. And yes, Martin Hanzal is healthy.. There's much more happening in outjuries, where we've got a Predator and Senator goal-scorers whose gamelogs aren't all that dissimilar to when they were injured, a reliable top-sixer getting his spot back in Washington, and a masked Red Wing who'll be looking to regain the pre-injury form that had eluded him for a long, long, long, long while. Speaking of goalies, weirdness continues to pervade keeper numbers and performances and tandems around the league, with a sudden extended rest for a legendary Ranger tendy, an apparent attempt at a tandem in Colorado, a turn away from a heretofore #1 in Winnipeg, and Cory Schneider doing his best Cam Ward impression. Cold streaks this week sweep through an entire Metropolitan squad, key components of an Atlantic team, a couple guys named Zach, and a usually reliable King. Hot streaks include a guy Brian called a snoozer last week, a guy Elan called a snoozer last week, a still kind of hopeless buy maybe not Cap, a Cap tease, as well as a less hopeless Cap, a Blue and an Oiler who find themselves this week's beneficiaries of their teams' usual line shuffling, a bunch of Islanders(!?), a former Isle, and two Penguins d-men who Brian will again tell you not to rush to pick up. Players featured on this episode include Alex Galchenyuk, Tomas Plekanec, Antti Raanta, Henrik Lundqvist, Max Domi, James Neal, Filip Forsberg, Viktor Arvidsson, TJ Oshie, Evgeni Kuznetsov, John Carlson, Bobby Ryan, Petr Mrazek, Jimmy Howard, Marcus Johansson, Radim Vrbata, Tobias Rieder, Anthony DeAngelo, Michael Stone, Mike Smith, Chet Pickard, Semyon Varlamov, Pekka Rinne, Michael Hutchinson, Connor Hellebuyck, Cory Schneider, Keith Kinkaid, Victor Rask, Derek Ryan, Jaccob Slavin, Max Pacioretty, Brendan Gallagher, Zach Parise, Mikko Koivu, Eric Staal, Zach Werenski Andrew Shaw, David Desharnais, Alex Radulov, Paul Byron, Philip Danault, Tyler Toffoli, Sam Gagner, Marian Gaborik, Jonathan Drouin, Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat, Steve Mason, Michal Neuvirth, Robby Fabbri, John Tavares, Josh Bailey, Anders Lee, Frans Nielsen, Justin Schultz, Ian Cole, Drake Caggiula and more. This episode was sponsored in part by SeatGeek.  Another episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, another argument about Steve Mason!   Elan and Brian butt heads right off the top over whether a fresh injury to Michal Neuvirth lays out a road to recovery for Steve Mason's 2016-17 season. There's less contention as they unpack the consequences of injuries to bluelines in Carolina and Columbus (btw, is Nick Foligno for real??), and thinner-than-you'd-think top sixes in Los Angeles and Colorado.   Outjuries and cold streaks are one and the same this week, as Evander Kane, Hampus Lindholm, Jacob Trouba and former shootout specialist Jussi Jokinen have yet to make an impact since re-joining their teams. Top power-play defensemen are also sputtering in Winnipeg, Florida, Colorado and Calgary-- we'll let you know whether you can expect the outages to continue with those players, as well as a banging Oiler, a quieter wunderkind Maple Leaf, and the entire Senators and Blues rosters.   And for every cold blue-liner, there's a hot one-- a Ranger and Coyote are both getting opportunities to make positive first impressions in the NHL, and an oft-cycled Flyer is suddenly hitting people. The guys also give props to streaking masked men in Ottawa, Pittsburgh and Nashville, along with a pair of revived veteran centremen in Minnesota and New Jersey.   The show rounds out with three snoozers: players that you might have on your roster without realizing they're no longer doing anything at all for your team. One of them scored 77 points last year, and Elan would drop him for Eric Staal in a shallow league.   Players featured on this episode include Steve Mason, Brady Skjei, Anthony DeAngelo, Seth Jones, Nick Foligno, Noah Hanifin, Pekka Rinne, Eric Staal, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Travis Zajac, Mark Scheifele, Connor Hellebuyck, Cam Ward, Eddie Lack, Evander Kane, Hampus Lindholm, Ryan Kesler, Jacob Trouba, Jussi Jokinen, Jonathan Marchessault, Reilly Smith, Vincent Trocheck, Dustin Byfuglien, Patrick Sharp, Jason Spezza, Kari Lehtonen, Antti Niemi, Tyson Barrie, Mark Giordano, Richard Panik, Aaron Ekblad, Auston Matthews, Mark Stone, Kyle Turris, Bobby Ryan, Derrick Brassard, Mike Hoffman, Erik Karlsson, Craig Anderson, Mike Condon, Milan Lucic, Patrick Maroon, Michael del Zotto, Matt Murray, Robby Fabbri, Teuvo Teravainen, Troy Stecher and more.   This episode was sponsored in part by DRAFT!  It's a super fun and simple daily fantasy app where you build your team through a snake draft with your opponent, and then compete through the night's or week's games. The episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast you've been waiting all summer for: it's Smörgoåliesbord 2016! *kermit-style wildly waving arms and hands motions*   Elan and Brian tell you all about goalie tiering: what it is, why you need to do it for your draft, and what info you should use to guide you in your tiering. Then, they share their own 2016-17 tiers! Can Henrik Lundqvist hang on to his well-worn seat in Tier 1? Just how high will Martin Jones rate on the strength of one fantastic year? Should you draft Murray before Fleury, or the other way around? Does Sergei Bobrovsky hold steady or continue free-falling to lower tiers? Is Steve Mason actually better than Michal Neuvirth? Which as-of-now #1 goalies are ripe for the picking, with quality backups chomping at the bit for more time in the crease? We discuss literally-- literally!-- every goalie that has a chance to see time in an NHL crease this season. Those goalies include: Henrik Lundqvist, Braden Holtby, Martin Jones, Carey Price, Ben Bishop, Pekka Rinne, Jonathan Quick, Tuukka Rask, Roberto Luongo, Corey Crawford, Cory Schneider, Connor Hellebuyck, Sergei Bobrovsky, Peter Mrazek, Steve Mason, Mike Smith, John Gibson, Jake Allen, Frederik Andersen, Craig Anderson, Semyon Varlamov, Devan Dubnyk, Marc-Andre Fleury, Matt Murray, Antti Niemi, Kari Lehtonen, Ryan Miller, Jacob Markstrom, Cam Talbot, Brian Elliott, Robin Lehner, Andrew Hammond, Thomas Greiss, Jaroslav Halak, James Reimer, Cam Ward, Eddie Lack, Joonas Korpisalo, Michal Neuvirth, Ondrej Pavelec, Al Montoya, Carter Hutton, Calvin Pickard, Jhonas Enroth, and many more but I'm going to stop here because I already told you that we talked about every 1st string, 2nd string, and even a bunch of 3rd string goalies who could possibly guard an NHL net this year. It's another bonus episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! Are goalies really the Papa Shangos of the NHL? Hockey-graphs contributor and goaltending analyst Nick Mercadante joins Brian for an hour-long chat to try and demystify hockey's masked men. The two of them review the pitfalls of conventional goaltending evaluation, the benefits of Nick's new goalie evaluation metric adjGSAA/60 (aka Mercad/60), goalie ageing curves, and projecting goaltender performance.  They also put several of 2015-16's unexpected goaltending performances under the microscope, looking for clues to see whether collapsed goalies are due to rebound, whether goalies riding high can keep from collapsing, and whether 2016-17's likely crop of first-timer #1 goalies will have what it takes to weather their new workloads. The episode wraps up with some crease-based mythbusting regarding the effects of a strong backup on a #1 goalie, and whether enormous amounts of games played really can help a goalie thrive. Goalies discussed on this episode include Henrik Lundqvist, Roberto Luongo, Jonathan Quick, Sergei Bobrovsky, Connor Hellebuyck, Pekka Rinne, Tuukka Rask, Matt Murray, Marc-Andre Fleury, Brian Elliott, Jake Allen, Frederik Andersen, Steve Mason, John Gibson, Michal Neuvirth, Cam Ward and more. * * * Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes! Injuries may have decimated Ottawa, and the guys begin by seeing how it may impact the able bodied players who can still take the ice. They also tip their cap to a couple d-men who've swapped an IR spot in Pittsburgh, and consider whether Claude Julien can bring a staggering Habs roster back to life. Then, a hotly anticipated rookie who couldn't impress at this season's outset is back for another kick at the can in Columbus, while teammates around him alternately slump and awaken. Outjuries double as snoozers, as the merits of activating or jettisoning a returning centreman in Dallas and a blueliner in Anaheim are debated, with a healthy but quiet-til-now Panthers defenseman thrown in for good measure. Meanwhile, the debate over whether a certain Ducks forward can maintain a 55+ point pace appears all but settled, and new lines in Anaheim lead to a depth chart search for fantasy value outside of the usual suspects.  In hot streaks, Brian thinks Elan's feeling confident about one Canuck too many. The segment also features a couple Coyotes forwards and defensemen are helpful for as long as they remain in the desert, an entire line reigniting a pretty great even-strength run in Detroit, an assist-happy Blue who Brian prefers as a goal-scorer, a 60+ point scorer starting to maybe look like one again, a doghouse escapee in Boston, Brent freaking Burns, and Elan pining over vintage Zetterberg. Goalies get some time in the spotlight, including thoughts on why the Blues goalies are suddenly keeping the red lamp from being lit, a Philadelphia goalie whose only hot in the category of 'games started', an apparently reliable Western Conference goalie who could be spelling his starter more often, an emerging title change in Florida, and a struggling Isles tender with rough waters ahead. Also, what the heck should you do with a couple struggling Jets as they enter their bye weeks? And which Jet forward should you pick up when they hit the ice again? Players discussed on this episode include Mark Stone, Kris Letang, Bo Horvat, Henrik Zetterberg, Alex Galchenyuk, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Jaden Schwartz, Martin Hanzal, Zach Werenski, Michal Neuvirth, Oscar Klefbom, Jordan Eberle, Thomas Greiss, Aaron Dell, Nikolaj Ehlers, Ryan Spooner, Petr Mrazek, Mike Hoffman, Bobby Ryan, Brad Marchand, Max Pacioretty, Ryan Dzingel, Zack Smith, Curtis Lazar, Erik Karlsson, Craig Anderson, Mike Condon, Justin Schultz, Chris Kunitz, Jake Guentzel, Carl Hagelin, Shea Weber, Jeff Petry, Brendan Gallagher, Carey Price, Brandon Saad, Brandon Dubinsky, Jason Spezza, Patrick Sharp, Sami Vatanen, Radek Faksa, Ryan Getzlaf, Ryan Kesler, Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid, Brent Burns, Rikard Rakell, Aaron Ekblad, Nick Ritchie, Ondrej Kase, Alex Edler, Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin, Troy Stecher, Radim Vrbata, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Michael Stone, Alex Goligoski, Tomas Tatar, Anthony Mantha, Jake Allen, Carter Hutton, Steve Mason, Leon Draisaitl, Andrej Sekera, Mark Letestu, Mark Scheifele, Patrick Laine, Mathieu Perreault and more. As on any given Sunday, go ahead and pop in your air buds-- it's time for little fantasy giants Elan and Brian to help you remember the titans (and not-so-titans) of this week's NHL action in a brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast!  In this week's injuries, it's a real case of you don't know what you've got til it's gone with a shelved even-strength stud in Pittsburgh, a still underappreciated centreman in Dallas, and a Lightning forward whose absences from the scoresheet are now further assured. In outjuries, the guys go back to the future in trying to imagine what 2/3 of the Panthers' first line can offer on offesne, and what that also means for former and remaining members of that top trio. They also head to the desert to wonder how excited it's reasonable to get about they Coyotes' likely top scorer, and then move slightly westward for a Kings forward who finally has returned to the lineup. This episode's hot streaks feature your Cane(s) of the Week, a powerless Senators centreman finding his way at even strength, a meh Shark becoming more whoa, Cody Franson???, a re-established Nashville #1, and a challenger for #1 on the Columbus blueline. Cold streaks end the show, with looks at an ever-alarming press box presence in Philadelphia, an unsprung foward in Minnesota, and a flickering Flame. Like a new baby being born into the world, Elan and Brian are pushing out a brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! This week's show begins by sizing up most impactful and relevant players who've flown the coop since the trade deadline, and the players they may have displaced. This includes a visit to Washington and St. Louis's even strength and powerplay blueline setups, the blue paint situations for the Lightning and Kings, the top nine in Minnesota and Boston, defensive depth in Pittsburgh, and a couple floaters in Ottawa. The guys then shed light on those who've come out bruised and/or battered, including Florida's sort-of-but-not-so-much-anymore #1 goalie, a Devil we know, a Sabre that had just gotten rolling, and a Star that never really had a chance. We also pontificate on the healthy return of an Isle blueliner. Some players are hot this week! They include a lower-key sophomore and a once again promising forward in Buffalo, a couple Taylor Hall linemates, a Habs goalie who may also just be considered as being back to normal, a Flames goalie who we wonder whether this might be his normal, and a Calgary d-man who we wish it still could be his normal. Some players are cold this week. They include a top six Penguin who otherwise looks fantastic, a sobering season by a Coyotes defenseman that has cut back on taking shots, a Canes blueliner still taking shots but not getting anywhere, a New York top six/niner who has lost his early season sheen, and a couple of Avs forwards whose performances personify the mess in Colorado.Players discussed on this episode include Jonathan Quick, Ben Bishop, Peter Budaj, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Martin Hanzal, Kevin Shattenkirk, John Carlson, Matt Niskanen, Alex Pietrangelo, Colton Parayko, Alex Steen, Mark Streit, Connor Sheary, Chris Kunitz, Sidney Crosby, Patric Hornqvist, Valtteri Filppula, Steve Mason, Drew Stafford, Michal Neuvirth, Ryan Spooner, Frank Vatrano, Alex Burrows, Viktor Stalberg, Roberto Luongo, James Reimer, Thomas Vanek, Kyle Okposo, Evander Kane, Ryan O'Reilly, Jack Eichel, Michael Cammalleri, Travis Zajac, Kyle Palmieri, Taylor Hall, Antoine Roussel, Jason Spezza, Jiri Hudler, Ales Hemsky, Travis Hamonic, Josh Ho-Sang, Nate Prosser, Nick Leddy, Johnny Boychuk, Carey Price, Alex Radulov, Brian Elliott, Michael Ferland, Mark Giordano, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Mike Smith, Louis Domingue, Justin Faulk, Jacob Slavvin, Brett Pesce, Noah Hanifin, Matt Duchene, Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon, Mika Zibanejad and more. The Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast is pleased to announce that it's officially draft szn, everybody! And that means it's time for Elan and Brian to comb through the entire Yahoo! default draft rankings-- from #1 Connor McDavid to #1009 Kalle Kossila-- and then ruthlessly attack them for the most egregious examples of over- and under-rated players found within. Follow along as we name more players in an episode than we're likely to on any regular season episode.(In an episode where we ranked hockey names, by the way, Kalle Kossila could easily crack the top 100.)(In an episode where we possessed Grays Sports Almanac, by the way, we'd use our knowledge only for good.)Players discussed on this episode include Ben Bishop, Thomas Chabot, Cale Makar, Tukka Rask, Devan Dubnyk, Alex Ovechkin, Johnny Gaudreau, Jack Eichel, Patrik Laine, Max Pacioretty, Jamie Benn, Dylan Larkin, Tyson Barrie, Jacob Trouba, Jonathan Toews, Vincent Trocheck, Oscar Klefbom, Roope Hintz, Anthony Mantha, Shayne Gostisbehere, Alex Edler, Quinn Hughes, Erik Karlsson, Brent Burns, Tuukka Rask, P.K. On this not-at-all special, not-holiday edition of the Keeping Karlsson Hockey Podcast, Elan and Brian consider the impacts of key players coming off the shelf in Boston, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles and Dallas. They also wonder how suspended players should be handled in fantasy hockey, get annoyed with a Red Wings defenseman, suggest you hold your horses in the Penguins' crease, give votes of varying confidence to a trio of Senators, discover a King yearning to hit the scoresheet, wonder whether things will be different this time for a Vegas journeyman, marvel at the lack of synchronicity between two Jets forwards, wonder when a Maple Leaf might eventually make an impact, celebrate the most average goalie in the league, and bemoan/try to explain a struggling St. Louis superstar. Goalie confusion abounds on the newest episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! Why are some of the best goalies actually awful so far? Why are some of the oldest 'tenders dodging regression for their 3rd year in a row? How badly should you want an awful goalie on one of the best teams in the league? What #2s are potentially morphing into #1b? We also flip through a bunch of recently outjured players to see if our projections have changed for them since their last NHL action-- including a PPQB and one-time starting goale in the Atlantic, an old soul in San Jose, and a finally returned Blue. First things first: Elan and Brian have not traded Karlsson. They are still keeping Karlsson. This podcast remains Keeping Karlsson. Anyone who does that is smart. Anyone who doesn't, particularly in actual real life, and particularly without getting anything of remotely similar value in return, is not.  So anyway, yeah, here's another episode of the Keeping Karlsson Hockey Podcast. It's a pretty good one. It was supposed to be all about Yahoo Average Draft Pick rankings, which we were going to comb through and then pick out some guys who we thought were being picked either too high or were bargains being picked as low as they were. But then this other thing came up. So instead, Brian rants for a bit at the start. Then Elan refocuses on the fantasy fallout of Karlsson to San Jose. Then Elan invokes a bit of a Smörgoåliesbord redux by wanting to tinker amongst tiers based on recent preseason news. Brian is chagrinned by this and wants to refocus on the trade. Then they look at the fallout of Karlsson gone from Ottawa (spoiler: it's not good). Afterwards, the guys do get around to combing Yahoo ADPs as originally planned, highlighting a handful of market inefficiences on both the high and low ends based on fantasy drafting trends to date.  Also: the Keeping Karlsson NHL 2018-19 Audio Almanac is out now! Elan and Brian slaved over hot mics and keyboards for weeks to put together the world's first audio fantasy hockey guide. It all adds up to a comprehensive and exhaustive 32 chapters, 27+ hours of content, 285 player points projections, 65 goalies tiered, and too many arguments to count to help you win your fantasy pool and just know pretty much everything about every relevant player in the entire NHL. Head to keepingkarlsson.com/almanac to purchase, where you'll also find a link to download the first chapter for free. This is also a good place to mention that Keeping Karlsson patrons get 20% off their Almanac purchase! Players discussed on this episode include Erik Karlsson, Brent Burns, Evander Kane, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Tomas Hertl, Timo Meier, Martin Jones, Aaron Dell, Jonathan Quick, Devan Dubnyk, Tukka Rask, Pekka Rinne, Jake Allen, Ville Husso, Corey Crawford, Cam Ward, Cory Schneider, Carter Hutton, Brian Elliott, Carter Hart, Michal Neuvirth, Thomas Chabot, Matt Duchene, Mark Stone, Chris Tierney, Brady Tkachuk and more. * * * Like what you hear? Cross your heart and say your prayers, it's another cuss-free episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! This week, Elan and Brian are feeling just peachy about the healthy returns of an apparent #1 goalie and a top line winger in Detroit, the apparently brief return of the Ducks' #1 goalie, and the hopefully fruitful return of a top line Canadien. But doggone it, even more players are off to the infirmary this week. The guys talk about the lineup and fantasy implications of injuries to a Metro starting goalie who was probably in need of rest anyway, a laundry list of Penguins, a struggling Panthers blueliner, a couple key pieces of Ottawa's top six, and a few key pieces of Tampa Bay's top nine. Bless the players whose production we can be thankful for, including a non-squeaky wheel in Philadelphia, several nondescript forwards in Carolina, a promoted hitter in Washington, a pair of persisting depth scorers in Columbus, and one of this year's stealthier breakouts. And, of course, we trust the hockey gods will shepherd back those players who may have lost their way, including a number one goalie not living up to his elite billing, and a King who is struggling far more than we'd anticipated. Players discussed on this episode include Jimmy Howard, Petr Mrazek, Gustav Nyquist, Henrik Zetterberg, James Reimer, Steve Mason, Sami Vatanen, Patrik Eaves, Ryan Getzlaf, John Gibson, Jonathan Bernier, Jhonas Enroth, Rickard Rakell, Alex Radulov, Henrik Lundqvist, Antti Raanta, Magnus Hellberg, Jake Guentzel, Connor Sheary, Patric Hornqvist, Carl Hagelin, Aaron Ekblad, Michael Matheson, Jason Demers, Jaromir Jagr, Jonathan Marchessault, Thomas Vanek, Jussi Jokinen, Reilly Smith, Kyle Turris, J.G. On this episode of Keeping Karlsson, Elan and Brian tackle very important questions regarding the sustainability/fleetingness of the production coming from a smattering of streaking and slumping skaters around the league, before being joined by NHL.com's Senior Fantasy Editor Pete Jensen, who shares his takes on a host of topics including the look of a healthy Winnipeg top six, a Florida three-headed goalie monster, the possibility of Arizona winning games, unexpected depth chart shakeups in St. Louis, the value of Vladimir Tarasenko, and some guy named Greg Pateryn. Welcome to the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast's sesquicentennial episode! The free agent frenzy has slowed to a trickle, but we are bursting with takes on how player production around the league will be affected. Of course, our analysis goes beyond just the player that has moved-- we go up and down depth charts to scope out roster-wide effects, including the blue lines, top sixes, creases and power-play units in New York, Washington, New Jersey, Dallas, Buffalo, Florida, Detroit, Los Angeles and Toronto, to name a few. The last couple weeks have also seen plenty of address changes for goaltenders, which means a handful of new tandems and new opportunities for goalies to push and be pushed for playing teams. Elan and Brian name the 'tenders who are better off for their move, others who should be looking over the shoulder, and still others who could be platooning from the get-go-- particularly in Winnipeg and Philadelphia. Remember, we've got our summer patronage special on from now til September: become a $1 patron of the show, and you'll get the full slate of $5 patron perks, including access to the famous patrons-only Facebook group! Plus, you'll be supporting the show :) Players discussed on this episode include Kevin Shattenkirk, Mika Zibanejad, John Carlson, Andre Burakovsky, Brett Connolly, Jakub Vrana, Pavel Zacha, Nico Hischier, Marcus Johansson, Damon Severson, Cory Schneider, Mike Cammelleri, Darcy Kuemper, Jonathan Quick, Steve Mason, Connor Hellebuyck, Brian Elliott, Michal Neuvirth, Anders Nilsson, Ryan Miller, John Gibson, Antti Niemi, Jonathan Bernier, Ondrej Pavelec, Herik Lundqvist, Chad Johnson, Eddie Lack, Mike Smith, Alex Radulov, Martin Hanzal, Jason Spezza, Brendan Gallagher, Ales Hemsky, Philip Danault, Jason Pominville, Radim Vrbata, Evgeni Dadonov, Vincent Trocheck, Henrik Haapala, Aaron Ekblad, Keith Yandle, Trevor Daley, Mike Green, Niklas Kronwall, James van Riemsdyk, Tyler Bozak, Jussi Jokinen, Patrick Sharp, Justin Williams, Chris Kunitz, Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau and more.   * * *   You might have heard that our friend Darryl Dobbs (aka Dobber) recently announced that he has been diagnosed with a rare bone marrow disorder. Are you still in contention for your championship? Or keen on picking up pointers for next year? Or just can't yet kick the habit of getting your fantasy hockey fix each week? No matter what the reason, we've got a brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast just for you! The huge bulk of this episode is framed by Injuries and Outjuries. Right off the top, Elan and Brian squabble about whether there's any value left to be had on Long Island with Tavares on the shelf, and get their best told-you-so voices out to comment on the Isles' goaltending situation. They also chat about he 2nd best Panther to own now that Barkov is out, Florida's opening night starter in 2017-18 (spoiler: not Reto Berra), and Philadelphia's opening night starter in 2017-18 (spoiler: maybe Reto Berra??). The guys offer up some replacement options for a banging and mashing blueline Flyer, celebrate the rise and lament the fall of members of he Flyers forward corps, and go ape over the bizarre power play formation in Nashville earlier today (and how it may relate to their confidence in a former 40 goal scorer). They also demonstrate concern for oft-reliable Sharks, all Wild goalies, the Penguins' powerplay quarterback, the Senators' playoff chances, and the future of the Detroit Red Wings. In Outjuries, our hosts wonder if Anaheim really needs to turn all the way back to their returned number one goalie, and marvel at the 22nd thirty-goal scorer of 2016-17 who is doing things that, in the previous eleven years, he was never given the chance to do. They muse on the future of an ageing bounced-back Duck and a rising young Lightning. The show closes with Hot Streaks, where a Leafs rookie is making a case to be taken in the first round, a new Avalanche is making a case for people to realize he's on the Avalanche, a King is getting point for himself but not the team, another interchangeable anonymous Blackhawk takes a successful turn on the top line, a couple goalies who are normally scary are making themselves slightly less scary, and a pedigreed Hurricane d-man is suddenly somewhat reliable in his production. Also, Elan flexes in his sleeveless shirt. And before credits roll, we pay tribute to the teams we've lost and celebrate those that have won. Players discussed on this episode include John Tavares, Josh Ho-Sang, Anders Lee, Auston Matthews, Jonathan Marchessault, Jordan Weal, Sven Andrighetto, Jonathan Bernier, John Gibson, Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat, Anthony Mantha, Henrik Zetterberg, Sean Couturier, Logan Couture, Joe Thornton, Conor Sheary, Jake Guentzel, Justin Schultz, Anthony Stolarz, Vincent Trocheck, James Reimer, Roberto Luongo, Josh Bailey, Andrew Ladd, Jaroslav Halak, Thomas Greiss, Reto Berra, Michal Neuvirth, Steve Mason, Claude Giroux, Jakub Voracek, Radko Gudas, James Neal, Kevin Fiala, Ryan Ellis, PK Subban, Roman Josi, Joe Pavelski, Kevin Labanc, Phil Kessel, Jason Zucker, Devan Dubnyk, Erik Haula, Alex Stalock, Darcy Kuemper, Mike Green, Niklas Kronwall, Tomas Tatar, Gustav Nyquist, Cody Ceci, Erik Karlsson, Marc Methot, Dion Phaneuf, Zach Werenski, Seth Jones, Steven Stamkos, Brayden Point, Yanni Gourde, Jack Eichel, William Nylander, Frederik Andersen, Mitch Marner, Alex Barkov, Mikko Rantanen, Matt Duchene, Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog, Rick Nash, Kris Versteeg, Jarome Iginla, Anze Kopitar, Tuukka Rask, Henrik Lundqvist, Kari Lehtonen, Tanner Kero, Zach Sanford, Elias Lindholm, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Patrik Berglund, Noah Hanafin and more.
