Dan and Shawn are joined by Brian Boucher (20:52) to discuss the success that the Flyers are having, the play of Carter Hart and Samuel Ersson and the emergence of defenseman Travis Sanheim. Boucher also touched on the goaltending issues plaguing the New Jersey Devils, the Winnipeg Jets being more of a surprise this season than the Vancouver Canucks and provided his midseason picks for the Vezina Trophy and Hart Trophy. In addition, Dan and Shawn debated Steven Stamkos' future with the Tampa Bay Lightning, discussed Florida Panthers forward Sam Reinhart's emergence as one of the NHL's best goal scorers, and gave their opinions on who should be the favorite for the Hart Trophy, Vezina Trophy, Jack Adams Award, Norris Trophy and Calder Trophy.
Pete and Nick catch up on the best pickups around the NHL, including ways to tap into the surging Flyers beyond just Jamie Drysdale. Players and topics discussed include Samuel Ersson, Noah Hanifin and the sneaky Flames offense, Jaden Schwartz, Leo Carlsson returning from injury, Nick Bjugstad, Nick Perbix, a soft spot in the schedule for the Sabres, Pyotr Kochetkov's injury, which Avalanche players to pick up with Valeri Nichushkin in the Players Assistance Program and more.
The Flyers point streak ended last week, but they found a way to erase a 5-goal deficit and pick up a point in Detroit before the Christmas break. Now away for the annual Disney On Ice road trip, Samuel Ersson and Philly begin with a game in Vancouver against Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes, Thatcher Demko and the Canucks. Charlie & Bill break down the action, and maybe dive a bit into Cutter Gauthier and the WJC tournament, as well. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Before heading out on the road for their annual holiday road trip, the Philadelphia Flyers look to extend their points-streak to 10 games against the Nashville Predators, who beat Philly 3-2 in overtime last Tuesday in Tennessee. With Carter Hart still ill, Samuel Ersson makes his 5th straight start and has a streak of his own to defend, having not allowed more than 3 goals since October 28th (10 starts, 11 appearances). Could Sean Couturier and Philly send the Wells Fargo Center crowd home happy before leaving on the road trip? Charlie & Bill break down the action, including the ailing Flyers power play, Cam Atkinson's struggles, and much more! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Coming off the high of a thrilling OT win over the New Jersey Devils, people have not calmed down, and are now posing the question “can this team do it now?” John Tortorella has coached the Flyers into playoff position, and in impressive fashion. Travis Sanheim has become a #1 defenseman. Sean Couturier is once again a Selke contender. Both Carter Hart and Samuel Ersson have been tremendous, and now riding a 9-game point streak (7-0-2), it has become fair to wonder what this team's ceiling is. Charlie & Bill try to take a step back and assess the near future, without throwing water on a team that is red hot Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Riding an 8-game point-streak ahead of Tuesday night, the Philadelphia Flyers are one of the hottest teams in hockey thanks to John Tortorella's coaching, the return of Sean Couturier, the emergence of Travis Sanheim and a strong goalie tandem of Carter Hart & Samuel Ersson. Charlie, Bill & Kelly preview Flyers/Devils, discuss the Joel Farabee article on ALLPHLY.com, answer more mailbag questions and eat roast pork sandwiches at the Reading Terminal Market (we will probably not eat sandwiches on air). The Philadelphia Flyers bring their 8-game point strak to Newark (6-0-2), facing off against the New Jersey Devils. Carter Hart is once again out due to illness, meaning Samuel Ersson starts for the 4th consecutive game. Ryan Poehling also continues his ascent in the lineup, with Scott Laughton once again relegated to the 4th line thanks to his recent struggles. Can the Flyers make it 9 straight with a point? Charlie & Bill break it all down! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Isaiah, Chef and Dan are joined by Kevin Kurz of theathletic.com examining the Flyers recent play after their trip out west. Through one third of the season, the Flyers have surprised the entire league with their play as they currently sit in a playoff spot and seem to have recaptured a level competitiveness missing for most of the last decade. Looking ahead, the panel discuss what is - and what is not - sustainable while keeping the team's big picture goals in mind. Also: features on Cam York, Samuel Ersson, the young core and more!

Giana Han of The Philadelphia Inquirer wraps things up with a look at Travis Sanheim's healthy scratch, Joel Farabee's lack of playing time the night before, and the strong play of goalie Samuel Ersson (55:18). Episode 205 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features two fun conversations with young up-and-coming rookie goalies in the NHL, 23-year-old Swede Samuel Ersson of the Philadelphia Flyers and 21-year-old Latvian Arturs Silovs of the Vancouver Canucks. In the feature interview, presented by Sense Arena, we start with a shorter conversation with Ersson about his transition to professional hockey in North America and almost immediate success with the Flyers, and how the techniques and tactics from his Swedish upbringing in the crease translate to the NHL. We didn't get as much time as we normally like, but didn't want to lose the valuable insights Ersson shared. We did get to go longer with Silovs, who was fresh off his first NHL win the night before our conversation, and reflected on becoming the sixth Latvian goalie to play in the NHL (and the first to make his NHL training camp debut wearing equipment loaned from InGoal Magazine), how he used to get better by watching other goalies on TV and trying the things they were doing, and his rapid ascension with the Canucks, both up their depth chart and technically working with 3 different goalie coaches. All that, plus a trip to the new location of The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a(nother) look at the Warrior G6 line, which debut long ago but wasn't available … until now.
Steve and Ryan address Ivan Provorov's decision not to participate in warm-ups and have to wear the Philadelphia Flyers Pride Night jerseys. The guys also discuss the frustration of the team's recent success, Samuel Ersson's solid play in net, and John Tortorella's feud with tablets. Pete and Nick are joined by Anna Dua to run through all the best pickups around the NHL for the 15th week of the fantasy season. They discuss the ripple effect of Evander Kane's upcoming return on the Oilers, Valeri Nichushkin's impact on the Avalanche's bounce-back appeal and the inconsistency of the Red Wings this season. Other players and topics discussed are the trade value of Patrick Kane after he returned from injury, how Ivan Provorov could be worth adding ahead of a potential trade, the Devils' secondary players worth adding like Tomas Tatar, Ryan Graves and Damon Severson, whether rookies Juuso Parssinen of the Predators and Samuel Ersson of the Flyers have staying power, Evan Rodrigues, Yanni Gourde, Daniel Sprong, Dylan DeMelo and more.
Is there a goalie controversy brewing in Philadelphia? Since making his NHL debut, Samuel Ersson has proven that maybe he belongs in the National Hockey League. Big thing people need to remember is he has just a small sample size to judge how well he has played early on. The young fifth-rounder has posted a 4-0 record in five games, including pitching a shutout vs. the Buffalo Sabres Monday night. He also has posted a 2.30 GAA and .924 SV% in those five games. There is no doubt since getting crushed by the Carolina Hurricanes in his NHL Debut, Ersson has gotten stronger between the pipes. There is also a lot of doubt surrounding Carter Hart now with the emergence of Sam Ersson. A lot of media personnel and fans believe Hart is not the answer. Could they be right? Possibly. We do have a bigger sample size for Hart, who has played 175 NHL games. With the game the other night against the Maple Leafs, as ugly as it was, you can't put it all on his shoulders. The defense and PP did him no favors, as Tony DeAngelo was benched since the second period, and the PP went 0 for 4. Hart has posted solid numbers this season with an 11-12-6 record, 2.97 GAA and .908 SV%.The Philadelphia Flyers have been playing on a positive note, winning five of their last six games. In that span, they have beaten the likes of San Jose Sharks 4-3, Los Angeles Kings 4-2,Anaheim Ducks 4-1, Arizona Coyotes 6-2, and Buffalo Sabres 4-0. The loss came against the Toronto Maple Leafs, 6-2. As stated briefly, that was an ugly team loss where nothing went rightfor the boys in Orange and Black. However, they rebounded in a big way against the Buffalo Sabres Monday night. Tune in Tuesday night to get the recap of that game.
Flyers Daily with Jason Myrtetus: Full recap of the Flyers 4-0 win over the Sabres. Plus a look at the goaltending performance of Samuel Ersson and John Tortorella's post game press conference.
The Georgia Bulldogs rout in College Football's national title game, Damar Hamlin leaves the University of Cincinnati hospital, Bucks rally to beat the Knicks, and Flyers goalie Samuel Ersson gets his first NHL shutout this season. Correspondent Chuck Freimund reports.
The guys are back after the holiday break for a new episode to kick off the new year. The Flyers are on a four-game winning streak entering Sunday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The guys discuss Carter Hart's injury and the messaging confusion around his return, as well as Samuel Ersson's emergence during Hart's time out of the lineup. The Philadelphia Flyers closed out their West Coast road trip with a 4-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center Monday night. It was a very successful trip for the Flyers as they grabbed six points in the three-game trip. Travis Konecny put the team on his back, scoring four goals in the three-game stretch. Owen Tippett and Scott Laughton also had a good trip, scoring two goals in three games, respectively. Additionally, goalie Samuel Ersson had a strong road trip, posting a 3-0 record with a .930 save percentage and allowing six goals in those three games. Needless to say, it was a much-needed strong trip for the Flyers. As discussed earlier in the season, the Metro Division has proven to be the toughest division in the NHL. The Columbus Blue Jackets are the only team to prove they are not in the playoff race. The guys are going to discuss the playoff hopefuls from the Metro. This has been as close a race as many have expected it to be. The Flyers are not out of the race, being nine points back of the New York Islanders, who are tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins for the second Wild Card Spot. Also on tap, NHL Contender and Pretenders. The guys are going to discuss - of the teams currently in a playoff position - who is the real deal, and who is gonna fall flat on their face and miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Right now, the Boston Bruins, Dallas Stars, Carolina Hurricanes, and Vegas Golden Knights are the division leaders, as the season is just shy of the halfway point of the season.

On today's show, Russ & Rachel express our reservations about the long term health of defenseman Ryan Ellis as the Flyers head to Edmonton to face the Oilers. Then we turn our attention to Lehigh Valley, where coach Ian Laperrière is off to a rough start, with a lack of scoring at 5v5 and a pretty disastrous power play for the Phantoms. But there's a lot of bright spots, including a stellar penalty kill. We also check in on the progress of Max Willman, Cam York, Egor Zamula, Tyson Foerster, Morgan Frost, Isaac Ratcliffe, and goaltenders Felix Sandstrom & Samuel Ersson. The 2018 Flyers Draft is now in the books. Frankly, it was a rather uneventful draft for Philly as General Manger Ron Hextall didn't make any brash or surprising moves this past weekend. To dissect the results of the Flyers picks, we brought onto the show this week Bill Matz, cohost of Broad Street Hockey Radio (BSH Radio) for a great interview and discussion. What might these picks and their talent bring to the team, and what does this Flyers team look like moving forward? But first, on the Brief News & Views segment:1. Might the Phillies be ready for primetime? (5:45)2. Sixers Talk: our thoughts on the draft results, and whether or not Markelle Fultz should play summer ball. (11:10)3. How important is LB Jordan Hicks to the Eagles defense? (21:55)4. Which Philly sports team would we want to be the GM for? (25:45)Then we get into our Up or Down segment where we briefly analyze Philly sports figures to determine if their needle is moving up or down. (32:00)What we're throwing down on the Table is a fantastic and lively interview with Bill Matz from the BSH Radio podcast. First, we asked Bill his thoughts on how Ron Hextall did this year in the draft. From there we dove into the talent acquired: Joel Farabee, Jay O'Brien and goalie Samuel Ersson as well as other talent. What might the Flyers do with impending free agency to help propel this team to the next level?During the upcoming season, are we going to be "stuck" with the goalies we know all too well – Brian Elliott and Michal Neuvirth? Can the Flyers realistically acquire talent that would be an upgrade from Val Filppula at the 3C? All of these questions and much, much more this week on the Table. (39:55)
