Louise is a journalist, broadcaster, podcaster and writer. She presented BBC Breakfast for 20 years and before that was a news anchor on the BBC News Channel and the BBC's One O'clock News. She has also presented The One Show, Five Live Drive, Real Rescues and Missing Live and has been a contestant on I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, Time Crashers and Celebrity MasterChef. Her first book, Dare to Tri, charted her journey from the Breakfast sofa to representing the Great Britain Triathlon team in her age-group at World and European Championships. Her second book Fearless, Adventures with Extraordinary Women was published by Bloomsbury on 25th May 2023. It reflect her passion for celebrating women's success. In each chapter Louise takes on a different challenge with a courageous woman, to get to know them and tell their incredible stories. About the book: Fearless, Adventures with Extraordinary Women JOIN LOUISE MINCHIN ON 17 EXHILARATING ADVENTURES WITH TRAILBLAZING WOMEN WHO ARE BREAKING DOWN BARRIERS, SMASHING RECORDS AND CHALLENGING STEREOTYPES. 'To get to the heart of who these women are… I decided to do it the way that I know best, by taking part, spending time right beside them to experience the things they love.' Driven to bring more attention to female stories of courage and endeavour, Louise Minchin pushes herself to the extreme and embarks on thrilling endurance adventures with trailblazing women. She freedives under the ice in the dark in Finland with Cath, the first woman to swim a mile in the Antarctic Circle; she cycles across Argentina with Mimi, one of the world's most famous female endurance runners; and she swims from Alcatraz with Anaya and Mitali, two young sisters who have braved the shark-infested waters over 70 times. With her natural empathy and sense of humour, Louise forms close bonds with 18 incredible women. She explores what drives them and how they find the resilience and determination to go on despite life's setbacks. Lizzie overcame a life-threatening illness and now paddleboards whilst cleaning up the planet with her community; Rhian set up a charity in the face of grief and fundraises through hikes; and Zee took up rugby alongside her busy nursing career and motherhood. Louise reminds us of the bravery inside us all, and how essential it is to celebrate women's achievements. Prepare to be touched and inspired by these fearless women. *** Don't miss out on the latest episodes of the Tough Girl Podcast, released every Tuesday at 7am UK time! It was so out of the ordinary.” Bart Yasso, “People ask me about motivation and I always said, I had the motivation. I had to, like, hold myself back that I didn't go out and run 40 miles every day. I was… I just loved it. In this episode, you'll learn: Obstacles are all good mental training Focusing on the process rather than the outcome Setting goals that you want to beat and working to beat them Running for the love of it, not just for sport If you want to watch the full episodes: What is the Ultra Mindset? Adventurers and endurance athletes Mimi Anderson and Lowri Morgan come together in conversation. It's a special chat between two females who specialise in endurance challenges, often in extreme environments. They've both excelled at ultra running, but in 2022 they are coming together to take on the Pan-Celtic race, a self-supported bike race around the Celtic heartlands. This is full of wonderful lessons, stories, inspiration and laughter too. You'll hear: 05:00 Start of the interview with Mimi and Lowri, including how they met. "I followed Lowri when she did the 6633 because I thought she is going to take my record away from me! And I thought one day we have to do an adventure together," says Mimi. "No way was I going to take your record Mimi," Lowri says! 07:25 More about the 6633 Artic Ultra which is a 352.64 miles self-sufficient race. They talk about not having communication with the outside world, why 50miles is like a sprint finish and how they keep going when everyone else has dropped out. "You don't think about it," Mimi says. I had fallen asleep standing up at one point, but I was 18 hours ahead of the next person and my brain wasn't functioning and you can't fathom distance." I know I might not be the fastest, but I want to be the best prepared athlete," Lowri says. 17:00 Mimi talks about some of the mental games that go through her head when she is competing. 20:00 Mimi on failure 'I've had some epic failures in my life.' And we talk about having to stop doing something because of injury and the importance of being able to diversify and change direction. 30:00 Mimi and Lowri on the https://www.pancelticrace.com/ (Pan-Celtic race). "It's a journey. It's the furthest the two of us have done. The aim is to do it in 9 days, so that we make the after-party. The day of the party is my 60th birthday," says Mimi. Lowri adds "I'm so glad I'm with Mimi because she knows the mental toughness you need to get through these races." 36:45 "I love kit, I should have been a man!" Mimi says. This is getting me really excited, Mimi!" We will smell like mad when we finish as we will probably just take two kits. You can't carry loads because it just makes the bike too heavy. 39:30 The huge 'down' after a big challenge or adventure. "When I get back from races, my family give me two minutes to talk." 40:45 Mimi talks about how she only started to run in her mid-late 30s. "When I started running, it was purely to have thinner legs. And back then, you didn't see people running the streets or with backpacks. It just wasn't done. The revelation came when I realised people ran outside, not just on treadmills." "I hope I have shown my children and grandchildren that you can do these things. I want to encourage other women to go and do these adventures." "It's taking that plunge and if something happens, you deal with it at the time." 46:40 We talk CONFIDENCE! And body confidence and how Mimi overcame anorexia. "Life was horrible really." "But as an athlete, I look at my body now and we have extraordinary bodies. My legs have enabled me to run in places around the world that I could never have imagined. I think we forget how incredible and beautiful our bodies are, that enable us to do epic things. I still have days I don't like my body, but on the whole I love it." Lowri: It does give you that inner strength. The lessons I have learnt on the trails have helped me in life. On the trails, you reach a point where your mind is telling you to give up, that you've reached a wall. You think you're going to collapse, but then your limits don't break and you realise then that you find the 4th, 5th, 6th gear and the smile returns. In life in general you get doors than close in your face, but then you find a way around it. In life in general, when things don't go the way I want them to, I think back to the trails." 51:00 We talk about preparing the mind for big challenges. So. Many. Golden. Nuggets!
Mimi is an endurance athlete and multiple world record holder. Today Johnny is joined by endurance athlete Mimi Anderson, also known as Marvellous Mimi. Having found ultra running at the age of 36, Mimi is now a Guinness World Record Holder and an incredible source of inspiration for other runners out there. She went from barely being able to run a mile on a treadmill to finishing some of the world's hardest and longest ultra races on earth including Marathon de Sables, double Spartathlon and double Badwater. In 2017 Mimi attempted the female world record of running across America, running a total distance of 2852 miles, or 4589 km, until she had to stop due to an injury. In the past years, Mimi has completed some unbelievable distances and shown that with hard work and determination, it's never too late to fulfill your dreams and transcend what you previously thought to be impossible. Australian Samantha Gash started running as a break from studying law. Little did she know those small steps would turn into a journey that has seen her run over 35,000km across every continent on Earth, and raise approximately $1.3 million for charity while advocating for women's empowerment, social change and access to education. Samantha took up running in 2008, entering the Melbourne Marathon as her first baptism of fire. As a rookie athlete, she ‘hit the wall' towards the end of the race, the fatigue nearly stopping her. She stumbled the last ten kms to the finish line with the help of a close friend who was also running. After taking herself beyond what she believed was possible, Sam had ventured into new territory that would become her new domain. In 2010 she took on the 4 Deserts Grand Slam, running four 250km ultra-marathons across the driest (Chile), windiest (China), hottest (Sahara) and coldest (Antarctica) deserts on Earth, carrying everything she needed to survive in a backpack. Samantha made history by becoming the first woman and the youngest person at the time to complete the Grand Slam of all four races in a calendar year. Her journey was captured for the big screen in the award-winning film Desert Runners. With an increasing desire to push the envelope, in 2011 Samantha entered a 222km non-stop run across the Himalayas, which had previously only been finished by one man. It was during this event that she realized she wanted to use her long-distance running for a greater purpose. And so began Samantha's transformation to social advocate. The next year, while working as a lawyer, Samantha ran 379km non-stop across Australia's Simpson Desert, which took 3.5 days and raised $33,000 for Save the Children Australia. Within two months of that run, Samantha helped organise a fundraising running event on behalf of Turia Pitt and Kate Sanderson – victims of the 2011 Kimberley ultra-marathon bushfire – a race that Samantha also ran in. Over $40,000 was raised to support the women's continued rehabilitation. Continuing her work for Save the Children, in September 2014, Samantha ran an average of 61km for 32 days straight across South Africa's Freedom Trail (1968km total) with UK runner Mimi Anderson, raising $55,000 for a South African initiative that increased access to feminine hygiene products and provided education on the importance of attending school. Then in 2016, as an ambassador for World Vision, Samantha ran from the west to the east of India – 3253km over 76 days. Through Run India, she raised close to $200,000 to fund six education-focused programs. She visited 18 World Vision-supported communities across the country, sharing previously untold stories and bringing together industry leaders to tackle barriers to children's education. Samantha has been twice recognized as a finalist in the Women's Agenda Leadership Awards. She has been selected as a delegate for the Australia India Youth Dialogue, and was also nominated for a Pride of Australia Medal. She is an ambassador for World Vision and the Royal Flying Doctor Service, using her platform to bring awareness to these causes. She was a competitor on the TV show Survivor where she met her partner Mark Wales. They welcomed Harry, their first child, in 2018. Find out more about her at www.samanthagash.com

Mimi Anderson started running at the age of 36. She wanted more shapely legs and so hit the gym. Mimi had a history of eating disorders, but her newfound love of running forced a change in her relationship with food and her body image. She went on to become a record-breaking endurance athlete completing feats such as the Marathon des Sables and becoming the fastest woman to run the length of Great Britain. The training and competitions did lead to those thinner legs. But when she got them, she realised she didn't want or need them anymore. Her latest book is called Limitless. Mimi Anderson started running at the age of 36 (after a long battle with anorexia). Over the next 20 years, she went onto set multiple Guinness World Records. Her achievements include: - completing the Badwater Double; the return trip from Death Valley where the race starts to Mt Whitney, and back - a journey of 469km, - winning outright the 6633 Extreme Ultramarathon, a self-supported non-stop race over 560km in the Arctic Circle in which you drag on a sled everything you need to survive that took her almost 6 days to finish, and - setting Guinness World Record for the fastest time by a female running the length of England and the record for a woman running across Ireland. Now it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. In 2017, she attempted to set the record for running across America - that’s over 5000km. Sadly, that attempt ended due to injury and it also brought to an end to her ultrarunning career. But you can’t keep a woman like Mimi down for very long! So in her late 50s, she learnt to ride a bike, overcame a life long fear of open water and finished her first triathlon. In this episode I get to catch up with one the UK's greatest Ultra Running legends. One of my biggest inspirations and a truly wonderful human being. We talk about her adventures that her feet took her on, her battle with her eating disorder and her new adventures in swimming and running. Follow her on her www.instagram.com/mimianderson and her other social media outlets.
We don't care what you've done in ultrarunning, your achievements are nothing compared with Mimi Anderson's. With a bunch of Guinness World Records to her name, Mimi has ticked off so many of the iconic ultraraces and more, including Double Badwater, Spartathlon, 6633 Ultra, JOGLE, and won a legion of fans in the process. She's known as the world's most inspirational female runner for a reason. Starting her running career at 36, Mimi jumped straight into the frying pan with the Marathon des Sables and her list of achievements quickly grew from there. Running offered Mimi so much, but the level of endurance has also caused issues and injuries which now prevents her from competing at the same level (sadly, she's turned to the Dark Side, i.e. triathlon). David talks to Mimi about her career and the impact shifting away from running is having - plus a warning for those ultrarunners who are pushing themselves to the edge. Enjoy! Mimi Anderson is a legend in the ultra-running scene. The last time we spoke to her she was preparing to head to the US to add to her growing list of international accolades with a record-breaking run across North America. However, 40 days in disaster struck when a knee injury put paid to not just the record attempt, but her continued career as an exceptional ultra-runner. Here she talks to Kris and Will about learning to swim, learning to cycle and learning to thrive in her life after running.
Some people love running so much that they want to run everywhere! This is Mimi Anderson. Nicknamed Marvellous Mimi, she quite honestly has a ton of marvellous tales to tell. Mimi has been described as one of the most inspirational female distance runners - in fact, I’d say she is the queen of running a long way! In this episode of RunPod, Mimi describes some of the world’s most exciting and gruelling ultramarathons and endurance races. Whether or not you aspire to ever take part is irrelevant, it’s absolutely fascinating to hear about the different races that are out there and Mimi has firsthand experience of them all! She also took on the ultimate challenge-running coast to coast across the USA. Her experiences and achievements are incredible to hear and the fact that she, in her words, was simply a stay at home mum who took up running is hugely inspiring. In fact, Mimi is not just a mum, she's also a grandma...Probably the fittest granny out there! Sadly her extreme running has also had a serious impact on her body-the consequences are severe but of course this won’t stop her. Believe me, listening to this episode will absolutely make you desperate to go for a run yourself....even if it’s not quite as far as Mimi!
It's been well reported that when it comes to ultra running, women are regularly out performing their male counter parts so we spoke to a legend of the sport, Mimi Anderson, on why she thinks this might be.Rick talks about trying to escape Great Britain (it's a race, not Brexit related) and Ben uses science (sort of) to explain why he's not having knee surgery. ll Mimi Anderson really wanted was thinner legs. She ran the windiest road imaginable to get there, a journey that brought her across frigid tundra and blistering desert alike and placed her in the record books for posterity. Along the way, what she found hidden underneath her compulsion to thin down was a passion to challenge herself and grow. Anderson runs it in 100 mile+ chunks, but swears that 5k is plenty if that's what challenges you. She has one deceptively simple piece of advice: Just sign up and you'll find a way to make it happen. Watch the video episode at http://spartanuppodcast.com Lessons:1. Just sign up and it and you'll find a way to make it happen.2. When the going gets tough, think of all the people who expect you to fail.3. (GERONIMO)Mimi is Co-Founder of Freedom Runners - a 2350km run across South Africa’s Freedom Trail to raise money to provide products to keep South African girls in school.
