I am an Assistant Professor of Economics at the School of Business at Farmingdale State College (SUNY). I received my PhD in Economics from Fordham University. My research interests lie at the intersection of international trade and development and my research agenda is twofold – one, I am interested in looking at the impact of international trade policies on developing and least developed countries. And two, knowing that even the most development friendly trade policies have to be backed by a robust domestic infrastructure, I investigate the impact of various capacity constraints on firms' performance, again in the context of developing and least developed countries. I have taught undergraduate economics for several years at Fordham and continue to do so at Farmingdale. Teaching across multiple modalities (in person and online synchronous and asynchronous), encouraging active learning, student engagement and connecting economic theory to its real world applications are the guiding principles of my teaching practice. I also volunteer as a co-lead organizer of the mentoring program for Trade Experettes called the Mentorettes. We have discussed how gender reflects in various fields of work, in the previous episodes of this podcast. We all have different kinds of work environments. In some workplaces, we can afford to keep our persona, views, and opinions private. In other professions, that is not an option. Journalism is one such area of work where there is a lot of public gaze on the journalist, especially with the advent of digital and multimedia journalism. One often has to put their face, voice, opinions, and political views out there. They are scrutinised, correlated, juxtaposed, and many kinds of consequences ensue, sometimes. Women journalists especially become vulnerable to cyberbullying, harassment, and personal attack. Our imagination of a woman in journalism is that of someone always ready, on their toes, chasing after the news. But how do we, as a society, make them feel deep within on a daily basis? What is it like to be a woman in journalism in today's context? Joining our hosts Shriya and Sukanya in this episode is journalist, news anchor, and the current Director of the Reuters Institute's Journalist Programmes, Mitali Mukherjee. Mitali is a business journalist writer and TEDx speaker and has covered and reported on a wide range of topics from political, global & local to economic. Hello Backstory fans! Join us for this great episode when we sit down with author Mitali Perkins. Mitali has written numerous Young Adult books, and her book, Rickshaw Girl, has been recently made into a movie. She relays the story behind the book, and how the movie came about, her thoughts about the premiere of the movie, and how it felt to walk the red carpet. Mitali also tells us about how she got into writing, some of her travels, and talks about the writing process for her. Its a great interview with a successful author, and very interesting person. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with her, and know you will as well A bit more about Mitali in her own words: ,"I was born Mitali Bose in Kolkata (Calcutta), India, and always tried to live up to my name—which means “friendly” in the Bangla language. I had to! Because my family moved so much, it was the only way I could make new friends. By the time I was 11, I'd lived in Ghana, Cameroon, London, New York and Mexico before settling in California just in time for middle school. Yep, I was the new kid again, in seventh grade, the year everybody barely makes it through. My biggest lifeline during those early years was story. Books were my rock, my stability, my safe place as I navigated the border between California suburbia and the Bengali culture of my traditional home. After studying political science at Stanford and public policy at U.C. Berkeley, I taught in middle school, high school and college. When I began to write fiction, my protagonists were often—not surprisingly—strong characters crossing all kinds of borders, seeking community, and promoting justice."

This episode is the second of a two-part focus on the subject of abolition: which denotes both a theoretical approach and a series of political and social movements that advocate for the overcoming of violent state institutions such as prisons and the police. In this episode, we talk to Mitali Nagrecha and Anthony Obst of the project Justice Collective, a Berlin-based European project that aims to end society's reliance on policing and punishment by engaging in advocacy, research, public education, and organizing to reveal and resist punishment as a tool of racism and economic injustice. Our conversation centers on how abolition can look in practice and explores the questions that Justice Collective deals with, particularly in relation to their current focus on Ersatzfreiheitsstrafe (substitute imprisonment) in Germany. We recorded the conversation in mid-December, and just a week later, the German government agreed to pass the draft bill that Mitali and Anthony criticize into legislation. Although this news is a disappointment to Justice Collective, they are nevertheless continuing their work and building new strategies to respond to this development. Do you call it periods, menstruation, or “that time of the month”?It is highly crucial to breaking the stigma around periods because the menstrual cycle is a normal bodily function in women much like anything else including urinating, pooping, or sneezing.Period poverty is such a big problem that 71% of women have no education about menstruation and 1 out of 5 girls drop out of school every month because of this. Women in rural areas rarely have access to hygienic period products as they cannot afford them. In fact, they use cotton cloth available at their house which can lead to severe infections. Helping them understand hygienic measures and educating them about them is crucial. It is essential to understand that both boys and girls pass through this phase of transformation. The difference is that women menstruate and their body goes through 4 cycles in a month where their energy changes, mood changes, and even hunger changes. On average, a woman spends 7 years of her life menstruating. So, it is essential to make this process smooth for her. Family members need to be more supportive and women need to take rest and consume home-cooked nutritious meals.Creating a non-judgemental society for women around menstruation and making them feel comfortable to talk about it and giving them the liberty to relax on such days by taking the help of science is extremely essential.   About The Guest:Dr. Mital Rathod, MS Obstetrics and GynaecologySocial Links:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/itsdrmitali/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@itsdrmitali1/Connect with Rohit Kokane:https://linktr.ee/rohitkokane_Podcast Created on Hubhopper Studio

The book – which is an Amazon bestseller in several categories – sets out more than 20 proven strategies designed to dramatically increase referrals, boost your profits, and even build additional income streams. As a ghostwriter Mitali wrote seven business books that generated more than $6.5 million in additional revenue for her clients. Are you familiar with that very loaded Indian expression "Log Kya Kehenge?" The English translation is "what will people say? " And when the expression is used "people" doesn't usually mean the people that actually love and support us. It's usually the community, elders in the family, even un-related Aunties! In this episode my guest Mitali from the podcast Brown Game Strong, and I attempt to uncover why "log kya kehenge" is such a driving force in our lives. Is there a balance between being a brown girl that rocks the boat and lives life on her own terms, and not letting your parents down? Can we be proud of our culture whilst smashing stereotypes? Have a listen and let us know your thoughts too.

he paper we will be discussing in this episode is entitled ‘Fame as an Illusion of Creativity : Evidence from the Pioneers of Abstract Art', in which today's guest, Banerjee Mitali, strives to answer the following question : what are the main factors that determine an artist's likeness to become famous. Mitali, who is currently an assistant professor of strategy and business policy at HEC in Paris, was unsatisfied with the current research, quoting from her intro: “Little work has explored the factors that shape a producer's fame in creative markets. Much of what exists, notably Simonton's (1980) research, has focused on creativity as the sole driver of an innovator's fame. However, the extant evidence is mixed regarding the link between creativity and fame”. In this discussion Mitali describes how her innovative empirical approach, where she partnered with the MoMA to analyze the social connections between 90 leading artists of the early 20th century, shows that one's social context is among the strongest indicator of potential fame. As she explains it : “ past work overlooks a key insight that creativity in cultural and entrepreneurial contexts is itself a function of the social structure in which an individual is embedded”. So without further ado here is Mitali Banerjee to discuss ‘Fame as an Illusion of Creativity'.
